I had driven by here quite often but it was never really on my radar. Friends of mine (K,W & P, I'm talking about you), had told me about a deal they had for national hot dog day. I tried the cowboy hot dog which had a black angus beef dog, cheese sauce, crispy onion strings, El Gallo BBQ sauce, miso ranch it was so good! I was staying on the coast and drove 25 minutes inland for dinner here simply because they participate in a dining rewards program that allows me to get extra miles. I came here long ago but I will be back soon! The bratwurst was excellent. I enjoyed a couple of beers which were good. But the best part was the staff. I asked several questions of a new person and we had a pleasant interaction. When I was ready to leave, I asked the manager if I could take a coaster with a logo for a beer that my son likes. There are only a couple of patrons dining when we stopped in for a late lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. We ordered the Downtown Haus Dog, the Das Brat Haus Sausage, and a mini Corn Dog. My husband had the Das Brat and said "it was a little too sweet for what it was" due to the caramelized onions but still enjoyed it. My Downtown dog was tasty. I enjoyed everything about it. I'm usually a mustard and relish gal so I wasn't sure how I would like all the toppings. However, it has me looking forward to trying the other variations. Updated: Had Dog Haus a few times since my last review and needed to update my rating as it has slipped some . Today I tried the Nashville tender sandwich, ringer burger, cheese tots and a slider. Food did come out hot but was just lacking something. Flavor/Spice is what I'm thinking. The chicken sandwich tenders were decent but the size of them were small. It needed to be sauced up more with some sides of their special sauce and ranch. Pricey for what it is. The tots were fluffy but bland and cheese is just regular nacho. I they can do something with these like season them and use something ilike a white cheese with hatch chilies in it topped with some green onion. Ordered a Pastrami Breakfast burrito and I was worried! Idk why but I was afraid they wouldn't take my dairy allergy instructions or it would be lackluster since they focus on hot dogs. My worries we're put to rest. They did a great job and the pastrami was well cooked. Added some avocado which was a nice touch. The Good - The bread is really good and soft. It's called Dog Haus and they have hot dogs and sausages and burgers and burritos and more. But if "dog" is in the name, I'm getting dogs. They have a lot of space with both indoor seating and a large outdoor patio. There is free street parking everywhere. We tried two different dogs, one sausage (dog), and cheese tots. They could have put a tad more cheese on the tots--they were a little stingy there. The Old Town dog (bacon, chipotle, cotija cheese) was very good and had a great smoky flavor. The Cowboy dog (bacon, cheese sauce, BBQ sauce) was also very good. The T-Mex sausage (avocado, chipotle, jalopenos) was a tad spicy but overall, very nice. All of the dogs and sausages come on beautiful Hawaiian rolls. It sounds like a weird combination but it totally works. Now, I've got a few observations: They have a a bunch of good beers on tap but the board where the beers should be listed was barren. They were obviously lacking help on the night we were there. Was someone out sick or were they try to save a buck? In fairness, the service we received was terrific. But they clearly needed help given the number of customers. Overall, we had a good experience. From the description initially I had envisioned it to be a German pub. So when we went in and had to place the order and sit down. I had the impression that it was more of a fast food restaurant with beers. That said, I also had expected draft beers. But it seems that they were just reopening and draft beers were not ready. They have a fountain machine with limited diet drinks- just diet coke and the rest is regular soda and lemonade Place is cleanly kept. I noticed whilst waiting for our food that they do wipe the tables with cleaning spray right after a customer leaves. The restaurant is decorated like minimalist industrial feel. And feels like a quick pit stop-fast food kind of place. They do however have a large outdoor patio with benches. Sitting is split equally indoors and outdoors. They are definitely dog friendly here. I saw multiple customers with dogs inside and outside. They serve a variety of food; burritos, dogs , sausages, chicken burgers sliders. They also have kids meals Alcohol- supposedly craft beer, cocktails and ice cream. I didn't really see any options for craft beer today. Nor cocktails. Maybe in the future. Hubby ordered the cheese burger with onion rings. The patty for cheese burger was oversalted but the texture was good. He mentioned that the onions rings were really good. Crispy and not greasy. But he could still taste the salt long after eating. The buns were regular sweet dinner rolls. - so it looks like four sliders when it's essentially a burger. I had the cowboy dog. And requested for less bbq sauce They went lower on the bbq sauce but it was still too much for me. The cowboy was supposed to have cheddar cheese sauce but it was almost nonexistent. Also the dog was just mildly warm. I ordered sweet potato fries with this. The sweet potato fries were nice and crispy. I want to commend them on the way they cut the fries. Each fry is thin and crispy. And lightly salted. I loved their sweet potato fries. Overall, it was a decent meal for a fast food restaurant. 3 stars just because I expected something different, oversalted patty on the cheese burger and warm sausage. My roommate got the Soo Cali and her review of it included "I didn't even need ketchup" which is a huge compliment bc she loves ketchup.... Anyway, the tots were SO good. I do think the spice could be hotter but there is one more level above hot so I'll likely try that next.
