Every bite tasted fresh, juicy, and like someone actually cared about making a great burger instead of just another fast-food burger. Now let's talk about the beef tallow fries... these might honestly be some of the best fries I've ever had. Crispy, rich, and packed with flavor. You can absolutely taste the difference. Pro tip: Grab the yellow peppers. Don't think about it. Just do it. They add the perfect kick and somehow make the whole burger experience even better. The vibe with the world Cup games was the cherry on top for sure! The staff was super friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. I also tried the sweet tea, and it was surprisingly excellent. The Fatty Patty (their ice cream dessert) was decent, but I'd probably skip it next time... mainly because I'd rather save room for another burger. Parking is generally fine, although if you show up during a busy time, you might have to park a little farther away. Trust me..it's worth the extra steps. I'll 100% be back. Better than a lot out there, but, In my opinion, very overhyped. The smash'd burger spot at Crackheads down the road is probably better. The Dirty Double, in particular, is a greasy behemoth. Good luck picking it up and eating it without it all falling out and making a mess. It's not particularly fun to eat. Perhaps, their "Prime Burger" is more manageable? I may try that next time. You go by the entrance, enter your order with the host and then (if you are dining in) you are given a number to take to the first open table you can grab. The star of the show is the Tanner's Prime Dirty Double consisting of a 2/3 lb USDA PRIME All-Natural Brandt Beef smashed to perfection with crispy edges. Served with a beef bacon, caramelized onions, juicy pickles, and double cheese on a Brioche Bun with Tanner's Sauce. What I really liked about the burger was the thin crispy edges with an almost beef jerky like texture but as you keep eating the patty thickness comes through and yes the beef using USDA prime provides a robust taste. This burger left me fully satisfied and full. The other notable that is a must pair with is the Tallow Fries consisting of a russet potato fried in beef fat - great flavorful that went well with the burger and tasted great with the burger sauce and ketchup. Better come hungry because it is hard to eat the whole burger when you ate already. Maybe for guys it might be different though. The smashed patties were very juicy and dripping with beef fat! The crisp lettuce, sliced sweet onions and tomatoes helped keep the burger from being too heavy. They also give you a small Cascabella Pepper too. They serve your burger with their bottle of sauces brought together on the side. I liked their hot sauce which tasted like Frank's RedHot. Their main burger sauce was the typical burger sauce you get, kind of reminded you of McD sauce and In N Out sauce without the pickle juice tang. Ordered the Tanner's Prime Burger as a single burger for my mom, but did not try the single burger. But everything looked good! For those who only want more meat and cheese flavor in their burger, order Tanner's Prime Dirty Double. KIDS PRIME SLIDER Got this for my mom, but she did not like it after a bite of it, so I ate most of it. It is a simple slider with a single patty with American cheese on a brioche bun. There's also their own sauce called Tanner Sauce. It is a slider, so it is smaller than Tanner's Prime Burger, but the smashed patty was bigger than the brioche bun, so it was quite filling! Since it was grilled in tallow fat, you can taste it too and it can feel heavy after a few bites. Personally, I wouldn't recommend this. Tanner's Prime Burger is much better with the crisp lettuce, onions and tomatoes to cut the tallow fat. Love that they offer salad too, Tanner's Prime Burger Salad, everything minus the bun. TALLOW FRIES This was crispy and nicely salted. Slightly more saltier than I'd like though. It was good, but wished it was cut thinner, like McD fries. Overall it was good and I ate it with their hot sauce. After eating all this, your hands will smell like tallow. So wash your hands more than once! Wanted to get their beef tallow vanilla ice cream sandwich called Tanner's Fatty Patty, but sadly they did not have any that day. CUSTOMER SERVICE The whole staff was friendly and smiling. Best burger I had in a long time no doubt. All components were amazing from juicy and seasoned patties, soft toasted bun, drippy cheese, with optional burger and hot sauce on the side. These burgers are touted as one of the best burgers in San Diego. Decided to check it out because of this and to see if the line (that wrapped around the location into the parking lot) was worth it. Came here on a Sunday and it was packed. Please be prepared as from the moment we got in line up until we got our food was 50 minutes. So if you're here for a quick bite during rush hour may not be the best move. When it isn't packed they apparently do take out orders. Highly recommend but please note that they turn them off during the rush. This place touts beef tallow and their specialty cheese and you can tell for both. All in all they care about the oldie but goodie flat top burgers which were absolutely solid. The bacon was crispy. It was flavorful. Solid all around. My only bummer was that it was a tad greasy but it could be because of the rush. All I need to say is that the moment I took a bite I thought "yep. One of my top burgers I've had in SD." Their fries were fantastic. Next time will get some with cheese on it as the cheese they use is ooey gooey. The fries were a middle between shoestring and regular. Their tallow dip and their tanners sauce were real showstoppers. I could be buried in the tanner sauce when I die and be happy. Think a sweeter less onion-y version of in n outs animal style sauce. Topped it off with the ice cream sandwich and their milkshake. Chocolate lovers rejoice for the milkshake! Rich chocolate. It hits you in the face in a good way. The ice cream sandwich cookies were homemade tasting and the ice cream was yet again beef tallow. I wanted to give it 4 stars but gave it 5 because the burger and the fries were delicious and amongst the best in the area. My only disappointment was the hotdog. My recommendation to Tanners is stick to the burgers. The hot dog, and I have had a few from New York, Boston, Nathan's, Chicago, etc... was bland and over decorated with peppers and other condiment to hide how bland it was. Want a casual spot with a really good Smashburger, this is it! As other reviews have stated, expect a line when you show up. We stood in line and ordered our burgers, grabbed our number and waited to be served. If you don't want to stand in this line, sitting at the bar could get you served faster. There was staff to take orders for people sitting at the bar. We checked out the spot on a weekday during lunch time and it did not stop the rush of people coming this hotspot in Oceanside. The line is almost always out the door for ordering whenever I've passed by! Ordering is done at the register. Staff is friendly and make ordering quick. There is indoor and outdoor seating, but the whole front section is open to air out the restaurant. Still aesthetic for a burger place! The prime burgers have juicy meat no matter if its in salad or burger form. The dirty tallow fries came out fresh and hot, topped with sauce. This place is solid and deserves its Michelin mention. The menu is very straightforward and simple. There's definitely no decision fatigue here. Get a smashburger and a side of beef tallow fries and you're all set. Obviously the burger is good and the patty deserves praise. But for me the bun is somehow the star. I don't think I've ever had a bun so soft and fluffy, the texture was amazing. If you're from LA making a day trip to SD, this is a great spot to check out. Always amazing experience with the best staff ever! Shoutout to the manager Joseph Vasquez who went above and beyond and assisted me with my order and my dining experience. This is probably my 5th or 6th time here. Tanner's has the best quality and cook their food in tallow! Also, you can now order the tallow at the restaurant now. Tanner's definitely lived up to the hype. I'm a big fan of smash burgers, and Tanner's certainly does them well. I went with a prime double burger and added bacon. A lot of smash burger places don't have a lot of topping options, so the bacon was a nice touch. The burger patty was nice and thin with a good crust. The cheese was deliciously melty, and the bun was warm and soft. This burger was actually pretty filling for a smash burger, which was nice to not leave hungry. The fries are cooked in beef tallow. Think gourmet/better In-N-Out. Came with a few friends after hearing about this place. We all got the 1/3 lb smash burger and shared the dirty fries after recommendation from the cashier. The burgers were so juicy and delicious. They also used a sauce that tastes like In-N-Out's sauce (not complaining). The long wait to satisfaction during high hunger period -- not worth! I was ravenous having worked out and showing up for a late lunch only to be met with a LINE at this Bib Gourmand designated burger spot, I was just not having it... but, dutifully I waited (because it must be good). ALSO, rant following -- Is there some unwritten rule where you can grab any open high top chair at the bar and order!? Anyways, thankfully the Tanner's Prime Smash Burger ($10.95, made with 100% USDA Prime all-natural "Brandt" beef smashed with some special beef bacon) as a single came out within minutes after ordering (kudos). The contents included caramelized onions, some special American cheese which is supposedly actually cheddar, and lettuce on a brioche bun. This thing was presentation to the max in its neat packaging. Good toasted up bun, fresh veggies, and yummy enough meat, BUT lacking an intentional sear. And the Tanner's sauce, whatever is in it, left an unpleasant syrupy aftertaste in the mouth, similar to the sensation after having an overly sweet drink flavored with too much syrup. My wife decided to come here for her elite event, I tagged along to grab a meal as well. When we arrived there was a pretty good long line outside, they do have heaters and stuff in the outside seating, and it was needed because it was so cold that night. Took about 10-15 min to get to the front to order, they do an order first then sit after system. They have a bar, inside seating and outside seating. I got the tanner burger and fries and they gave me a free drink cup. The burger overall was pretty good, smash style and didn't taste too oily or over cooked. Came here on a Friday night around 7:30pm and there was a short line...maybe 5-6 people/parties ahead of us. Burgers here are 5/5 We tried the single prime burger + the prime dirty double and a side of the tallow fries. Got a side of garlic aioli - delicious!! Prices are reasonable for the area. Service was fine. A bit difficult using the number system for the runner to find you because we watched our runner walk through the entire restaurant + patio before making her way back to us. Ambiance feels like a cool modern diner almost. Nice patio seating and indoor seating. Would come back! Food was delicious. read more

Delicious meat and fries. The double is so rich and filling that it can easily be shared. Service didn't impress, seemed like they were just going through the motions. Not many smiles from the front of house staff. This place can get busy, try going when they open or during the week. read more

Line out of the doorrrr. We got 2 prime dirty doubles w/ added chopped chiles. We assumed the chiles would come out like In n Out but to our surprise, we only got 1 chile stuck inside and then sprinkled seeds throughout the patty. It was still delightful regardless but wouldn't consider it spicy; smashed patty had so much flavor, the buns were soo soft, and lettuce tomato and pickles really brought it all together. There was nothing they could've added or done to make the burger better. This is simply a good burger. Dirty tallow fries were okay. Verbal review lol "I like animal style fries from In n Out better because tallow fries were missing cheese" Regular fries were great. I thought I would still be a little hungry from one burger and side of fries but I actually couldn't finish the fries. Maybe it's the tallow that fills you up quicker Each order comes with Tanner's hot sauce (more sweet than hot) and burger sauce which is very similar to animal style but with a mustardy undertone. Ketchup is free to grab but other condiments are a little under a dollar I think I had pretty high expectations for this place, and they met them but I am not dying to go back here.
