The ranch police are in town! This is for the rude cashier on sat 6/27 around 5:45. Been patronizing this place since their grand opening and have never had any complaints. A couple of weeks before this experience, I placed a to-go order and realized after getting home that all three ranches we paid for were missing. It wasn't a big enough deal to call about, so I figured I'd just mention it the next time I came in. When I came back a couple weeks later and politely brought it up while ordering, the employee said, "No problem." I assumed they were going to replace the ranches that were missed, but instead I was charged for them. When I asked about it, she pulled out a logbook of reported issues. Since I never called in, my name obviously wasn't in it. What bothered me wasn't the few dollars for ranch, it was being made to feel like I was making the story up. After spending thousands of dollars here since they opened, I expected a little more trust and a better customer service experience. A little understanding goes a long way. Deducting a star for that shitty experience with the associate, and giving four because i genuinely like the food and usually always have great experiences here. read more

After posting my last review, I heard back directly from the owner of Tanner's. He was very polite, apologetic, and kind/generous in offering to have us back in to give the place another shot - he even offered to comp our meal - which I assured him was not necessary but he insisted. Our experience this time was far better. Staff was very friendly and accommodating (as most were last time), they got all of our orders right, and everything was delivered in a timely fashion. Burgers were very good, fries were delicious...ambience the same. Clean space but very crowded, as per usual on the weekend. After some thought, I decided to drive to Oceanside and reward myself with a burger from Tanner's Prime Burgers, having previously been delighted by the quality of their food. The drive was exhilarating, as I sped down I76 with John Coltrane blasting from the Bose sound system and the wind in my face, knowing that my treat awaited at the end of my drive. I arrived and, to my surprise, a parking space was available in the parking lot, and I quickly parked. The service line is quite long, but to my delight, the World Cup match between England and Norway was on every monitor in the joint, and the sound was on! Truly amazing! Alright Yelp I'll give you the skinny on Tanner's Prime Burger. First off this is a smash burger place that holds a Michelin star. This place is like the In & Out of smash burgers. They are simply offer burgers, shakes and fries. I would think if this place as a more fancier version of In & Out. Does this place deserve a Michelin star for their burgers?..... in my humble opinion yes! I would say this is the best smash burger I've had. My second favorite place would be Amboy Burgers in LA. I had the double smash with no beacon. Every ingredient hit the spot, the bun has a nice buttery taste, meat well seasoned and even the secret sauce is special. I imagine every ingredient was carefully critiqued before butting together this award winning burger. Lastly, I came on a Sunday line out the door probably 30 minutes in line and another 30 to get my burger. What I really liked about the burger was the thin crispy edges with an almost beef jerky like texture but as you keep eating the patty thickness comes through and yes the beef using USDA prime provides a robust taste. The other notable that is a must pair with is the Tallow Fries consisting of a russet potato fried in beef fat - great flavorful that went well with the burger and tasted great with the burger sauce and ketchup. 5/11/2026 Got there early on a Monday before noon. Only one family and one other person dining there. It was not busy, yet. But after 12:00pm, lines started forming quickly! They serve your burger with their bottle of sauces brought together on the side. I liked their hot sauce which tasted like Frank's RedHot. Their main burger sauce was the typical burger sauce you get, kind of reminded you of McD sauce and In N Out sauce without the pickle juice tang. For those who only want more meat and cheese flavor in their burger, order Tanner's Prime Dirty Double. We stopped by on a Saturday night around 8:00 p.m., and the place was absolutely packed--which is always a good sign! There were about 12 people ahead of us in line when we arrived, and by the time we found a table, the line had grown to around 20 people. We ordered one Tanner's Prime Burger, two Tanner's Prime Dirty Doubles, and three orders of fries. We grabbed a table on the patio and enjoyed watching both the soccer match and the Padres game on the large-screen TVs while we waited. Our food arrived in about 15 minutes, which was impressive considering how busy they were. Everything came out hot and fresh. The smash burgers were outstanding--perfectly crispy around the edges, juicy, and packed with flavor. The fries were thin, crispy, and cooked perfectly. While the menu is a little on the pricey side, the quality and taste make it well worth it. The restaurant offers plenty of seating inside, outside on the patio, and at the bar. It's also pet-friendly, making it a great spot to relax with your dog while catching a game. Parking is limited, but we had no trouble finding street parking nearby. These burgers are touted as one of the best burgers in San Diego. Decided to check it out because of this and to see if the line (that wrapped around the location into the parking lot) was worth it. So if you're here for a quick bite during rush hour may not be the best move. When it isn't packed they apparently do take out orders. Highly recommend but please note that they turn them off during the rush. This place touts beef tallow and their specialty cheese and you can tell for both. All in all they care about the oldie but goodie flat top burgers which were absolutely solid. The bacon was crispy. It was flavorful. Solid all around. My only bummer was that it was a tad greasy but it could be because of the rush. All I need to say is that the moment I took a bite I thought "yep. One of my top burgers I've had in SD." Their fries were fantastic. Next time will get some with cheese on it as the cheese they use is ooey gooey. The fries were a middle between shoestring and regular. Their tallow dip and their tanners sauce were real showstoppers. I could be buried in the tanner sauce when I die and be happy. Think a sweeter less onion-y version of in n outs animal style sauce. I have driven by Tanner's a few times and each time the parking lot was full and there was a line out the door.  This time I visited at 2:30pm on a Wednesday and there was parking and one family in line. I tried Tanner's Prime Dirty Double.  Beef was cut thin and there were crunchy bits on the edges.  I liked the beefy flavor.  Bacon was crispy and had a delicious smoky flavor.  Lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp.  Very good tasting burger. Fries were fried in beef tallow and I loved the flavor.  I also liked how they were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This place is solid and deserves its Michelin mention. The menu is very straightforward and simple. There's definitely no decision fatigue here. Get a smashburger and a side of beef tallow fries and you're all set. Obviously the burger is good and the patty deserves praise. But for me the bun is somehow the star. I don't think I've ever had a bun so soft and fluffy, the texture was amazing. If you're from LA making a day trip to SD, this is a great spot to check out. Think gourmet/better In-N-Out. Came with a few friends after hearing about this place. We all got the 1/3 lb smash burger and shared the dirty fries after recommendation from the cashier. The burgers were so juicy and delicious. They also used a sauce that tastes like In-N-Out's sauce (not complaining). Fries were also so good; beef and grilled onions with the pepper and sauce were tasty. Surprisingly not too salty which I really liked. I wanted to give it 4 stars but gave it 5 because the burger and the fries were delicious and amongst the best in the area. My only disappointment was the hotdog. My recommendation to Tanners is stick to the burgers. The hot dog, and I have had a few from New York, Boston, Nathan's, Chicago, etc... was bland and over decorated with peppers and other condiment to hide how bland it was. Be prepared to wait on the weekends. Went here on a Sunday afternoon at 3:30pm. The line was decently sized and we waited about 30 minutes just to order. After ordering, it took less than 10 minutes or so to get food. It was pretty crowded and loud inside. I ordered the Tanner's Prime Burger (double) and the Dirty Tallow Fries. It's pretty pricey, but you absolutely get what you pay for. The burger was so flavorful, juicy, and crispy edges, which is exactly what you'd look for in the perfect smashburger. The Dirty Tallow Fries were good at first, but it became too much after a while. It was just flavor overload. I would recommend getting it by itself if you don't get a burger. But if you get a burger, just get the plain tallow fries with some extra sauces on the side. Overall, it's one of the best smash burgers in San Diego. I'd come back read more
