Communication is not great for Dog Spaw. I have been looking for a new groomer for my Cavapoo, and scheduled an appointment via their portal mistakenly for a Friday, instead of a Thursday (when I work from home). I sent an email, a message via their portal, a text message, and called and left a voicemail about rescheduling (all over about 4-5 days) but could never get a response on rescheduling. I ended up just canceling. Disappointing. :( read more

Had the best experience at this groomer. My dog is 8 yrs old and never been to a professional groomer. I've always done it myself because he was a show dog. About 3 mths ago I cut him down myself. My wife and I have been using Dog Spaw for many years for our two Bolognese dogs. Most people don't know that Bolognese dogs have hair, not fur. It doesn't shed. As a result, grooming is essential to their health. For this needed service, we come to Dog Spaw. The groomers here have always done exactly the job we wanted them to do, from tight trims in the summer to a little longer in the winter months. The cuts are gorgeous and we like the little ribbons and seasonal bandanas they usually tie on them. They are friendly, professional, and they listen. Since new ownership/staffing this place has taken a huge hit. My dog went to this grooming location for 10 years and we've taken all of our dogs there since this location was by the Draft Choice/Brookside. I tried calling the shop to get ahold of the new owner, was given his email and it's been 2 weeks since with no response. I have pasted my email below with my experiences since all the changes started. Luckily I found a new groomer but I want to warn anyone who currently takes their dog there to avoid any other dogs having the same quality of care. Hello Jeremy, I'm reaching out about my last few visits to the Dog Spaw Kent location. I understand you extended the length of service time however, this was one of the reasons I stayed with the Dog Spaw for so long, to avoid my dog sitting in a kennel for an excess amount of time. He has been coming there for 10 years and the last few times he physically shakes and doesn't want to walk inside when we pull up to the shop. Secondly, I have noticed the shop being dirtier over the last few months than the entire 10 years I've been bringing my dog there. This concerns me for the health of my animal. There is so much excess hair now that even the credit card machine was covered in dog hair and it sit on top of the counter away the from the animals. The location never used to smell stuffy either and I can smell it through my mask. I also am upset that today my dog was sprayed with some type of "dog cologne" without my approval or knowledge. He smells like mens cologne and it's overbearing. Not only is it not pleasant but my dog has super sensitive skin and I don't put anything new or unnecessary on him. I'm extremely upset that I wasn't asked about this prior and I'm hoping that my dog doesn't develop a rash from this. Lastly, my dogs nail was cut so badly that he was bleeding when I picked him up. The groomer told me it was from him jumping up on the kennel wall. I find this extremely strange because it's never happened in the 10 years I've been going here and he has a similar style kennel at home that he stays in and he has never done this to himself. I'm saddened by the changes that have taken place and I won't be bringing my dog back in the conditions he has been put in. I didn't want to leave a bad review but - I have unfortunately let this situation bother me this past week. I went in on a Tuesday to book my dog's grooming appointment - SCARLETT offered to verify my dog's vaccines. The appointment is scheduled for Friday  - I call prior to my appointment on Friday that I will be running about 5 to 10 minutes late - Scarlett answers and already sounds annoyed over the phone and lets me know if its more than 15 minutes we will have to reschedule. I informed her okay I understand I will be there soon. If anyone knows how difficult it is to get a baby ready and out of the house then they probably know how stressful it is to leave the house with a baby and a dog thats shedding everywhere! So I get there and SCARLETT is already having an attitude - first thing she says to me is "We weren't able to verify your dog's vaccines" and I'm like "Okay... shouldn't this have been taken care of prior to service?" And she says "Well its YOUR responsibility." Then she attempts to call the vet again to verify - and after her one phone call she tells me "they didn't answer" and I'm just frustrated at this point - and she basically is arguing with me telling me I'M THE ONE that was suppose to have this verified - even tho she didn't communicate with me herself that she was not able to verify it prior to the appointment! WHY DIDN'T SHE JUST TELL ME SHE DIDN'T VERIFY THE VACCINES WHEN I CALLED TO TELL HER I WAS RUNNING LATE? Then we could have just rescheduled! She would not take any accountability - she also blamed me for being late even tho I called and told her i was running 5 minutes late - I'm letting her know how frustrated I am that I got ready to be at my appointment and she's telling me she didn't verify the vaccines like she said she was going to days ago. After I expressed how I felt as a customer she had the nerve to tell me "I'm sorry YOU FEEL THAT WAY" ANYONE WHO SAYS THIS IS OBVIOUSLY NOT SORRY FOR ANYTHING - ANYWAYS JUST TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. NO ONE SHOULD BE SPOKEN TO THIS WAY. The point of this rant is SCARLETT who also did not want to share her name with me (even tho she gave it to me previously) - has very poor communication skills and does not know how to treat people. BUT - the owner and Mackenzie were very nice and understanding to the situation. Mackenzie was kind enough to verify my dog's vaccines in 2 minutes and Scarlett was not able to do it in a week? Weird  - but my dog was in desperate need of a bath so I let Mackenzie take care of her and she did a great job. Jeremy the owner was nice enough to give me a $20 discount. I appreciate that they tried to make the situation right - but unfortunately due to Scarlett's attitude and behavior towards me I will not be returning. The moral of this long story is for Scarlett to learn how to apologize to people appropriately. read more

My Shihtzu-Pomeranian dog has been getting groomed here for at about 2 years now. Last Thursday, when we dropped my dog off, we had explicitly told the groomer to trim her ears and tail in addition to her body. The groomer commented that what we want is what my dog usually gets (according to their notes). We all agreed. My dog seriously came home with a patchy fur cut all over her body. It has been a week and she still looks patchy! Her paws were not groomed at all (she looks like she is wearing bell bottom pants), her ears are uneven, her armpits ignored, her tail left too long, and her face is a mess!!! My puppy is walking down the aisle in my wedding soon, and she looks like this! We scheduled this fur-cut specifically on a certain day so she looks her absolute best on that day, but now I am just hoping her uneven fur wont show in our professional wedding pictures!! read more

I have been taking our three dogs to the Kent location for over a year now. We have two silky terriers and a tiny yorkie. The two silky sisters only get a trim as we leave their hair long so they get trimmed around their face, feet, and tail/rear end area. This time one silky came home with a bare rear end and back of tail was completely bare. Her butt looks like a baboon monkey. I do not want the person who groomed her to touch any of my dogs ever again if I decide to go back there again as it appears this person requires further dog grooming training. Answering your question: There was no hair loss on my dog. She always has lots of hair on tail and butt. The only thing that has typically been groomed in that area is around the anal area itself. The hair is left long and the back of the tail is only trimmed and not shaved bare. My other silky was also shaved in that area more than usual but is not as noticable as the dark haired silky. Your groomers have never cut her like that before. This is not the way it should be done. I initially sent you an email directly but when you did not respond I decided to make this public. I will no longer be bringing my three dogs to Dog Spaw. Customer complaints should be immediatley addressed. read more

The only reason for my low rating is due to appointment availability. I want services available that are convenient to my schedule, and for me booking 7-10 days out is just not reasonable for me. I graduates from the University of WA as an Industrial Engineer, and currently work as an Engineer at Boeing. We currently have a Minature Poodle, and a Staffordshire Terrier. Just introducing myself. I have never been treated so poorly by a business in my neighborhood as I was today! To be honest, I wasn't prepared for the out right mean, angry, weird and standoffish attitude I encountered. A simple inquiry about pricing for washing my dog turned into fear and aggression. The door was locked when I walked up so I knocked. The groomers stared me as if to decide weather opening the door to a customer was the right thing to do? They finally "cracked" opened the door. My plan was to walk into the establishment and check it out before just allowing them to handle my precious pet! I asked "how much would it cost for you to wash my Staffordshire Terrier?." The groomer looked back at her co-worker, relayed the message for a response. It's $70 dollars as she held the door to ensure that I stayed outside while she turned away. Can I see your establishment? I asked, she looked back and ignored my question, it's $70 she barked while glaring at me as if I owed her money. They never showed me a price list or grooming options, just treated me like I was trying to harm them for some reason? How I was spoken to and treated made me feel so bad that I had to right a review to warn anyone that has plans to use them as groomers to beware. If a person can be treated this way, your animals are likely being handled and treated unfairly also. Very happy with the service and the grooming my dogs received. It took longer for one of my dogs as she is almost 5 and we don't believe her previous owners ever took her for grooming. Was easier to make appointments and changes when needed. VERY BAD Dog grooming experience at the Covington Dog Spaw 2 Hour Grooms. I just had a horrible experience. Let's say I definitely DON'T recommend the Covington Dog Spaw 2 Hour Grooms (groomer Katie, owner Liz). Customer service is definitely NOT a priority. I had an appointment at 8:00AM which I made at my last appointment. I had spoken to Liz 3 times since our last appointment. The first time was to schedule my other dog for a groom. We discussed the 8:00AM appointment at that time. Bethany was to wash my dog and Katie would groom her at 9:00. I got an email reminder that said our appointment was at 9:00 AM so I called again to verify the 8:00AM start time. Again Liz said yes it was a computer error, 8:00AM was the correct time. Yesterday I got a text reminder that also gave the 9:00AM start time so I called again. Liz said she thought we'd cleared this up and the start time was 8:00AM. I said with the reminders giving the incorrect time I felt compelled to verify. They were not open at 8:00AM today August 5. An employee showed up a few minutes after 8:00AM. I was told to wait outside until she settled herself and then she invited me in. The front customer area had dog hair all over the floor. I have been a customer for over two years. This has never been an issue before. We have gone through 2 groomers there, Tracey and Lucia, both were great. Lucia left and my dog has been groomed by 3 different groomers since she left. I was trying to form a relationship with Danielle who did a good job that I was happy with. Danielle was not available for this appointment so my dog was going to Katie for the second time. Last time I was there Katie told me she feels anxiety about getting the dogs groomed in 2 hours. (Why is she working there then???) She is not my first choice for a groomer, but I had little choice. I was told I'd get a call when my dog was finished. This should have been at 10:00. In the past my dog was done before the 2 hours were up, but not since Lucia left. Its a 10 to 15 minute drive to the Covington Dog Spaw 2 Hour Grooms from my house. I left a little after 10 thinking they would be finished and calling while I was driving. I decided to do an errand on the way to give them a bit longer. I wanted to be in Covington to pick up my dog, who is a 6 pound toy poodle, as soon as she was finished. She is not used to crates so I want her to spend as little time in them as possible. I arrived at the Covington Dog Spaw 2 Hour Grooms at 10:27. My dog was on the table still being groomed by Katie. I sat in my car a moment then decided to go in and ask how much longer it would be. I could run another errand if needed. Katie was VERY upset I was there. She screamed at me that they would call when my dog was done. She also screamed that she remembered telling me she would not be there until 9:00 and why was my dog there earlier??!! I raised my voice when I replied I had been on the phone 3 times with the owner who used to be Danielle?? Now she is going by Liz and confirmed the start time was 8:00AM. At this point Danielle/Liz told Katie to give me my dog and she told me this wasn't working out. She would cancel my second dog's appointment. Katie quickly leashed my dog and slide her across the counter to me. My dog's body had been groomed but not her head and face. I turned and left. I can't believe anyone would yell at a customer AND then the manager/owner would side with them instead of the customer. I will never return. read more

When a dog hair parts under the chin from being dirty and is still there after a cut, they never bathed them. She is gross. There was a short, slightly heavy, young girl, with short hair whose name tag said Jamie! Dog Spaw 2 Hour Groomer owner's comments below are always an excuse and never excepts any responsibility. I am sharing my review from the Maple Valley location since the ownership is the same and my biggest complaint is how the owner handled our situation. After reading many other reviews - it sounds like others have had the same experience with the owner as well as the rudeness of the staff and the way the groomers just decide to go ahead and shave dogs when they find any matting, instead of giving the owners a call to discuss - they just take it upon themselves to take away all their fur and make them look horrible. I have never wrote a bad review. I do not like to put bad energy out there, but our experience at this groomer was so incredibly terrible, I feel like they do not deserve me keeping this to myself. This place is horrible. Starting with the woman who checked my dog in, who was extremely rude and impatient. We had specified how we would like to have his hair cut (he's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) so we like his legs, feet and tail hair kept longer, body shorter and as much of his ears left long as possible. We knew he had bad matting in his ears, but nothing more than he has had in the past and other groomers were always able to cut them out and leave the hair longer around it. They basically told my daughter that there was no way to do that and that if we kept his other hair longer he would look "stupid." My daughter called to tell me this and I immediately called them to speak to someone to discuss. No one picked up the phone. I tried over 15 times and left two messages. My daughter had to leave for work so I was left to just wait and see what would happen. 3+ hours went by with no phone call to let us know he was done. Again, I tried to call. No answer. My daughter just decided to go up there and they said he had been done for a while, but they had forgot to call us. The dog that went in and the dog that came out look nothing alike. They completely butchered him. We all cried he looks so awful. He won't even come out from under our bed he's that embarrassed. I finally received a call from the owner, Jeremy. Upon calling him back, he told me that this is what had to happen, did not offer any sort of apology, just kept telling me everything I shared about my experience was "good feedback." We were charged $140 to have our dog look completely horrendous. I asked "Are you going to offer compensation or a discount?" To which he said, "No, the services have been rendered and I will not be doing that." We will never be back. read more

Going to the Dog Spaw was a great experience! They got my little Milo in and out within an hour, very efficient! Milo is about 2 months old and hasn't ever been to the groomers before so I was a little worried about if he'd give them a hard time or not because he's a pretty stubborn corgi haha. But they took such good care of him and they even gave him a bandana at the end which looked soooo cute! I think their prices are also reasonable. Really happy with the quality of work that (I think Lucia) gave to my two dogs. They looked so much better when all done. They did wash, nails, hair cut and checked ears. I am unsure what else they did. I do think slightly pricy (30 lb dog and 13 lb dog) came to $85-$90 (something like that) and I rounded up to $100. It would be nice if they had pricing and stuff posted but nothing on walls. We were able to get next apt scheduled with no issues. Clean place. Just moved up to the great state of Washington, 3 months ago, from L.A., CA.... And I gotta say, I picked the right groomers on my first try! Dog Spaw was awesome!! My little fur baby looked great, smelled great, and the service was GREAT! They were super nice and caring to my dogs needs. Very efficient and accommodating when it came to scheduling. I was aware my appointment had the chance of being canceled if the groomer's wife went into labor -- which she did. But instead of cancelling my appointment, the owner called in her sister to help out. They were quick (~1.5 hours on our pomeranian) and reasonably priced ($45). I just made a horrible discovery after writing a raving review of the Kent Dog Spaw. I would speak directly to the owner but there is no way to contact that person via website or otherwise. After picking up Yogi on Tuesday not a word was said to me by his groomer that his under tail had been badly burned by the clippers. Two inches up his tail from the anus and all around the anal area it is so red and infected I will have to take him to the Vet. He had been acting strangely since I picked him up, dragging his bottom on the floor and very restless. I thought it was because his anal glands were drained at his grooming and it might be a bit sore but would go away He is walking in circles and continually looking behind him like something is following and bothering him. He is in pain. I picked him up today and lifted his tail to have a look. I was horrified to find red oozing burns all around his anus and up the underside of his tail where he has been clipped way to short and burned with the clippers. Why wasn't I told when I picked him up this had happened? Why isn't there a place to contact the owner on their website to talk to them. I am very upset. I have a picture and would post it but that option isn't available on yelp. I've always been happy with Katie. I can't imagine this happening to Yogi. What's up Dog Spaw ??? What's up Katie ??? What happened ??? The Dog Spaw called me right away Monday am after this review was posted, profusely apologized and genuinely regretted that this happened to Yogi. She reiterated how much Katie loves Yogi (and she does make over him when I bring him in. ) Katie did not know Yogi had reacted to the clippers when I picked him up so she didn't know to tell me. The Dog Spaw suggested I always request scissor cut around the bottom area so this doesn't happen. They also offered a free grooming next time Yogi comes in if I decide to bring him back. read more

Some of the girls do a good job and some are terrible, the owner did an absolute horrible job on my baby he was uneven and had chunks of hair missing. They are extremely expensive and are now doing another price increase, my personal hair doesn't cost $85 it's absolutely not worth the continual increase. read more
