Had too much time to kill while my wife shops at TJ Maxx. I can only sit in the furniture department so long. I even finished uploading all my Yelp photos, lol. Quality/Quantity - Once my traveling stops or finally slows down, I look forward to getting another dog. Back in the day, my CA days, we used to frequent this brand. From pet food to training lessons, etc. Today, I hung out with the chameleons. I was hoping to get on video them changing colors. Atmosphere - One of the smaller location? Or is this your new format? It has been a long time since I have visited a Petco. See pictures. Plenty of all parking. Open 7 days a week from 9am to 9pm; and on Sundays from 10am to 7pm. Service - Self service. I like the grooming happy hour, see picture. Price - Above average, but you are paying for convenience. A one stop shop. 11/1/2024- Stopped in to check out the fish section- My first time in, and it's a little smaller than a regular store. Staff was very helpful, and he was able to catch the three . Prices were under a $1 for three feeder fish.. Perfect for the outside pond- (which two have passed on).. Glad to have stopped in! read more

I will never be going back. In the betta fish area. There was a cup that the water was literally green because the fish was dead and decaying. (No I didn't take a photo, I couldn't bear the stomach.) then the other bettas weren't in good condition either. Then half the fish tanks had 2-6 dead fish in the tank that were just rotting away. Most of the live plants were dead, none of the animals looked to be in good condition. It was so inhumane to see and was heart breaking to see as well. Do better for the animals. read more

This review is for the groomer and the cashier lady where I paid on the way out. The groomer was really nice and helpful and spent time getting to our dog Lucky before she took him back to get his bath and cut. She asked lots of questions because I have not been to this salon before. It seems she followed all my instructions. I really appreciate how nice and friendly she was and how good she was with my dog. I would continue going here except for the fact that I live in South Reno. The drive is not bad but I had to kill 41/2 hours at Legends Mall. Now that is a good way to spend money but I didn't want to drive all the way back home and then back there again. It was real hot outside and I was not prepared for walking in the heat. I did not expect it to take that long because I have spots where he is in and out in 2 hours. So maybe they are more busy although the cutting room had no dogs in it. But it was worth it because I felt my dog was treated good and I liked the groomer "Becca". If you need a good polite groomer who loves dogs, she is the one. When my normal groomer is booked up, then I will be back. The reason for the four stars if the unfriendly cashier where I paid for the groom. I don't know why I could not put my c.c card in the reader and add a tip. She instead asked my what I was going to tip and took my card. That is a little backwards in this day and age. read more

I scheduled on the app for a bath and cut. When I went in they said my dog needed a shed release which I think is an add on. I asked for them to remove it but met resistance as they claim my dog was double coated. I assure them that he is not double coated, still they refused to take off the shed release. If I refused the add on then they won't cut his hair and only give him a bath. If I wanted both then they offered me to take him home if I don't want the shed release. It all didn't make sense to me as I have been there before in the past. I put pictures up of my dog for reference, he is a Pomeranian mix so he has long hair but he is not double coated. I called to ask petco customer service and they confirmed that the appointment should only be what we as the customer asked for. The shed release is not mandatory and the store should do follow what the customer asked for. read more

Yesterday late afternoon I had a order to shop for at Petco located at Legends. When I walked in I was greeted by Noah who was behind the counter and he politely let me know that they were closing in 7 minutes. I am not very familiar with petco's layout so I figured that the quickest easiest way to get what I had to do done is it just ask the clerk which turned out to be Noah if he could help me. I was very impressed that the way he just jumped right up to help, he did not point in a general direction of the store and say it's over there, with no hesitation he came out from behind the counter and took me over we got the items Bing bang boom I was out of there in like 4 minutes. It was nice to see someone that didn't hate their job, or didn't hate their life to where when you ask for help they don't roll their eyes or make it noise like unfortunately a lot of customer service employees do nowadays. I called and talked to HR to give a good word for Shelli for her work with my dogs today. When i picked them up they wanted out to go pee then wanted right back in... She clearly made them feel comfortable and safe. Last time, we saw Anna and she is also amazing. We won't go anywhere else even though this is out of the way. I've tried almost every other grooming company in town including home service companies. The groomers at this PetCo are on another level, they actually care about your dog and will treat them so well. read more

I was in the store looking at small animals. I was chatting with a deaf friend using a video chat service. One of the employees said, you can't film in here. I wasn't filming, but it made me wonder, why? The answer is obvious. The store is not at all proud of how they treat the animals. There's certainly no trade secrets being revealed on video here. But there are lots of small animals confined in cages that might not be under the best care. Be very weary anytime a business is afraid of pictures or video. We took our teacup poodle puppy for her first grooming yesterday. We were nervous as they told us we'd have to leave her for 3-4 hours. We've always used mobile groomers in the past with our other toy poodles, and they were always done within 1 hour. Mike checked us in and was very friendly and informative. We gave him a list of how we wanted her groomed (ie how short 1/4"; clean feet; shaved face; keep top knot) We left for lunch & errands and came back 2 hours later & waited out front for the call. Mike did an incredible job, and our baby is gorgeous! We highly recommend Mike. Only drawback is leaving her for 3 hours. read more

I've been bringing our dog "Socket" here since 2017 minus a year off in 2020 when we moved to North Valley from Sparks. Why did we come back to Sparks location? The groomers, cashiers, and store employees are nice, knowledgeable, friendly, attentive, and sincere in their love of animals. Not the same at Northtowne location. Excellent service with a smile can still be found at Petco on Lincoln in Sparks. Great selection of food, supplies and treats too. The groomers are the best. Easy online booking. We choose Petco for many of our furry baby's needs to include grooming, baths and prescriptions etc. never had an issue here and our buddy always is happy to come for baths! This review is based solely on the grooming services. We have brought our little monster to get groomed at this location multiple times. The first time was ok and the second time not so much. The lady who groomed our monsters de a very poor job. Then we met Andrew !! And we will not look anywhere else for as long as we can have Andrew. Andrew takes care of our monster and always leaves him looking good and fresh. Is not a rushed grooming or anything like that. I feel even our little monster likes Andrew because Andrew always says "he was an angel" that is hard to believe hahaha but I'm sure it is true as I can see he is great with all pets he checks in and know how to handle them just right. I am sure he can make the pets feel at ease. Haircuts can be very stressful, even for us humans so I can only imagine how stressful it must be for a pet also. So, I took my dog in for an 8am grooming appointment. At 8:15 two girls show up and have every excuse why they were late. The manager even had a discussion with one of them and she proceeded to say " I already get up at 5:30, there is nothing more I can do". What the heck, you should be on time. And, on time to me is 15 minutes early to get stuff ready. So this was not even the problem! I brought my dog in for a $58 wash and cut. In the end it was going to be $94. I asked to remove the extra $30 in charges and just have the wash and trim and the extra $6 in equipment charges. They refused. My dog is 11 months and is clean and brushed out daily. I decided to cancel my appointment and take my dog home. It was principle. I truly believe this is a groomer problem and not a PETCO problem. The manager that had the conversation with the groomer seemed amazing and understood ethics of being on time and the value of a good employee. So my take is that I can get a $100 groom at any upscale dog spa in town. I bet I can even get a glass of champagne while I wait. read more

Employees were nice and they have a decent selection of items but the restrooms have an out of order sign. My toddler needed to go so I asked the employees if we could use the bathroom and they unlocked the keypad for us. The condition of the bathrooms was disgusting. There's a sign on the door that says they take pride in cleanliness and to let them know if the bathrooms are dirty so they can fix it. I let them know and they told me the bathrooms are mostly for employees... If I was employee at the store, I would not want to use the bathroom. There was blood, urine, multiple bugs, clumps of hair, and used toilet paper and paper towels all over the floor. read more

Walked in to check out some fish, and noticed the crazy amount of DEAD fish. Not to mention a $70 saltwater fish upside down struggling. Labels were all mixed up, nothing was where the tags were. An employee came up and asked if he could help me with a fish, and I replied that he could help that fish that was upside down struggling. (I wasn't expecting him to magically fix this fish) but it was saltwater so maybe the PH was off, the temp was off etc. but I figured you definitely would NOT want your customers seeing all these dead/dying fish. He replied with no, and that he would wait until it died to do something about it. The tank NEXT to it, had 6 dead fish floating, so he wasn't waiting for that. Presentation of aquatic life was trash. Tank were dirty, glass was covered in water spots, water all over the floor, and no one doing anything about it. Came here to pick up dog food. I had to use the restroom. Sign on the door talked about how proud they were for the cleanliness of their bathroom. Bathroom was filthy. Looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. I go up to pay for my dog food and the young man working the register definitely needed a lesson in customer service. He was rather rude. There is some strange energy w/ the manager w/ the long braids. She and a guy w/ the grey beard were very snotty w/ me. She ignored me when I had more than one question about the fish and gave her fellow employee a roll of eyes and walked away. I asked a question and he literally laughed at me, and said he had to help someone else who had just walked in ??? It was very bizarre, rude and uncalled for. I went in the store weeks later and that woman (I guess she's the assistant manager) made a beeline for the counter even though I was already being helped and said w/ a weird look exchange to her fellow employee, "I'm the one who set you up w/ your points." In a very aggressive tone & body language. Ooookaay(?) Then she said, out of the blue, "we always have a great time here". Oooh kay I've called and asked the hours and if they were open on a certain semi-holiday and the employee just said, "I don't know". I asked, "ah well can u find out for me?" After being on hold for 12minutes she came back on the line and said, " we should be". On the other hand some of the other employees have been normal. Pleasant,helpful and efficient. Ok. It's Petco. Big box stores get a bad rep. However, this review is SPECIFICALLY for Bekki who was working last week. Perhaps I just oozed "hot mess" when I walked in but basically I had made an online order 5 days prior and forgotten to pick it up. Given I live 40 miles from the closest Petco it took a few days to get back. When i arrived, the computer system had cancelled my order that morning, literally as I was driving, and they could no longer honor the order or the prices. So you know when you are so stressed out, life has so many REALLY BIG things going on that you're dealing with, but you're coping.... and then something somewhat small and minor happens but you start to eye twitch? That was me. I didn't yell or make a scene but I KNOW I could not contain my face. It wasn't their fault! I forgot. But man, I had like 8 minutes to find everything and leave. Seriously, 8 minutes. I was screwed. Because I NEEDED everything Somehow, Bekki KNEW. She said "Hey! We still have it behind the counter! Let me see if I can price match everything for you to web prices" AND SHE DID! No joke, I cried. I told her it was a small act of kindness but she had no idea how much it meant to me in that moment. She didn't have to do any of it. I had already made some what I can only assume were pretty snarky looking faces even though I hadn't said anything snarky. I would not recommend coming to this store for grooming. 1. the grooming department opens at 8 am, but your not allowed inside the store until 9am. The website states walk ins are welcome but when you get to the store they tell it's appointment only. The customer service at the store is horrible. After being last minute cancelled from a mobile groomer, I scheduled an appointment with Petco Grooming (I was recommended to avoid grooming salons as it contributes to anxiety in my senior pet). On the day of the appointment, I gave my pet his prescribed Trazodone for anxiety. When reporting this during check in, the associate informed me that the Petco Policy is that they do not groom dogs who have taken Trazodone (If this is a policy, please make this known at time of scheduling). Fortunately, I was able to reschedule with Petsmart with full agreement that he will be on Trazodone on the day of his appointment. read more

We love taking our dog here. We even got our betta fish, Maui, here. We had our dog, Benji, groomed today by Anna and she did an amazing job. So many salons aren't taking any new clients but Anna was able to squeeze us in last minute. She listened to us on how we wanted Benji's trim and she made it seem effortless. While grooming may be good in this location, customer service is nonexistent. Helping a neighbor who just had surgery, I brought his dog in for grooming appointment, and was told "vaccinations were expired, they could not groom". Now they have all of this dogs records,, so why wasn't the owner told that when he booked the appointment? "We have a Vet coming in tomorrow from 10 until two and he can be groomed within 48 hours afterwards". Next day, waited in line 20 minutes, " do you have an appointment?" at no time was I told I would need an appointment!!! They would not take the dog for vaccination. At the price of gas nearly $4.50 per gallon, really?! Horrible, customer service! Horrible! read more

We booked a grooming appointment for our dog weeks in advance. We also double-confirmed our appointment the day before, as required by Petco's minimum 24-hour cancellation policy. Five minutes before our appointment they phoned and said "We are cancelling your grooming appointment." Five minutes. And there was nothing but an "I'm sorry." No offer to make anything right. No,"Gee sorry you scheduled time in your day." Just, "You can come back." Nor regard for the fact that we are busy working people and have to schedule our lives. No comped anything. Just a lot of stammering and a lot of excuses. Zero customer service and satisfaction. In fact, all their front-end employees have needed a stiff lesson in customer service every time we've gone in there. Most of them are rude. (Except Amanda, the head groomer.) So in addition to zero customer satisfaction and customer service, and the lack of following their own appointment cancellation policy, the groomer hasn't yet followed our instructions regarding the grooming of our dog, taking a lot of creative license, when given explicit instructions. If you have another option, do not bring your dog's to Petco for grooming. You just never know what you're going to get. Plus, why buy at a big box store when you can get local service? read more
