The owner and partner arranged a meet and greet with Lola and it was perfect. Lola has anxiety and does not like strange dogs or people. Andrea let Lola take separate space and kept her and the other dogs apart while Lola adjusted to being there. During my 9 days of vacation, I was sent updates, multiple times during the day and pictures. Leaving Lola was very hard but Harvey's Pet Care made it easier. Anytime I need pet care, I will give Harvey's house a call. I can't thank them enough.

We boarded the two dogs for 11 days in the "Westminster Suites"- half indoor, half outdoor. You had the option to book walks and playtime for extra fees, which we did a 2 mile walk plus playtime each day. Our bill ended up being $1150 (credit, debit, cash, or check accepted). There was also the option for the dogs to be groomed before pick up, and for the staff to drop off or pick up your dog at home, if you lived close enough. The staff was very friendly and reassuring. I met with the female owner when dropping the dogs off and she took time to answer my questions and then ask some of her own. She helped me walk the two dogs to their kennel and showed me where they would be staying. I brought some toys and bedding for them and she went through each with me to see what they could have unsupervised and what to take away if need be. They sent photos of the two dogs throughout the week and provided little tidbits of how the dogs were doing. When I went to pick the dogs up, both owners and (I'm assuming) their daughter or a helper chatted with me for a while and told me all about the dogs' stay. To my surprise, they all said the dogs had a great time and were very fun to play with and walk. They told me stories about their interactions with the dogs. Like I mentioned, my two dogs are a lot to handle and very high energy. So it was a giant relief to know that the owners actually enjoyed them. From what they said, and how comfortable the dogs were around them, it was clear that the dogs did just fine in their care. My experience with Hickory Hill Kennel was seamless. I was very nervous about boarding the dogs, but knowing they were in such great hands during their stay is worth every penny to me. I would definitely recommend this business! Pricy, but you get what you pay for. We will be returning here!

The first reception person I spoke to (whose name I didn't get) was nice. She told me the dates I needed would work, and that all I had to do was drop off a fecal sample. I did that the next morning, to a reception person called Elizabeth. She told me the cost was $30, which had not been mentioned before. It wasn't cool that this (seemingly way too high) fee had not been mentioned, particularly when paying it doesn't confirm booking, and they were not offering a record of these test results. But I needed a place for my pup to stay (and I'd already collected the shit and driven it over), so I paid it. I also sent over vaccination records. Elizabeth left a voicemail to say the fecal test was negative, which was good, but that my dog's Bordetella record was missing. I had thought it was included, but I misremembered what it was called (my dog has a pet passport from Europe which is in Italian). Elizabeth had a habit of replying with the word 'Correct' in this kind of authoritative way, even when the thing in question was not. She did this on our call, and I overheard it in the office when she was speaking to another customer. So I called around a bunch to try and confirm a Bordetella shot, and eventually found a nice vet who could do it. I called Pioneer Valley back to ask if I could confirm the dates for boarding now that the Bordetella shot was scheduled. This time I got Linda, who at least wasn't rude, but the call took forever. She told me Bordetella was there, but distemper was missing. Getting this information took something like 25 minutes. I mentioned a couple times that Elizabeth had told me the opposite the day before, explicitly confirming distemper was there. I knew my dog had had the distemper shot previously, so I confirmed with Linda that they offered it at their facility, and that he could get it and still board there assuming he had had the shot previously (so therefore did not need the booster). Linda told me this was fine. I found the record quickly and sent it over, and someone named Alyssa called back. Alyssa was a dick. She was rude as hell as she told me the vaccine record I had provided wouldn't work (there is definitely a nice, professional way to do this). She made me re-confirm the boarding dates I had requested for something like the 5th time, only to once again tell me they couldn't take him. I told her Linda had confirmed for me that they could do distemper maybe 15 minutes before. Alyssa said they couldn't get him in for this because "they were booked until August, and he would need a full checkup BY LAW." Emphasis hers. There was no apology for their terrible internal communication, and their even worse treatment of me as a customer, and as a human being. I want my $30 back. Don't go to a place like this where they're incompetent and they treat people poorly. There are other super nice, knowledgable vets (Shelburne Falls Vet Hospital is one!) minutes away.

One of them is 14 years old and is in CHF. Before I say what I'm about to say - I completely understand that if a facility does not have oxygen tanks and other medical resources/staff to aid in the event of an emergency, that they will not take my dog in CHF for grooming - I get that part. I spoke to THREE different people about this, thoroughly explaining my dog's condition and each time I was NOT told that that was a dealbreaker. I continued to make their accounts, requested bookings, and uploaded their vaccination records and medical records (particularly for my dog with CHF). Everything was approved and verified by the staff - per what their portal was saying - and the appointments have been on the schedule for 2 days. To add on to this, they actually had to last-minute reschedule one of the dog's appointments due to a staff emergency. I was fine with that, but again, there was no implication at all that the appointment was at risk for being cancelled due to my dog's condition, hence being rescheduled. It was rescheduled and I waited another day with no sort of outreach from Wagging Tails about anything.... until THIS MORNING (both appointments were supposed to be today) I get a text message because god forbid they have the decency to make a phone call, saying that both appointments have been cancelled due to my dog's condition and the lack of equipment/medical resources on hand. THAT WAS NOT BROUGHT UP ONE TIME, EACH TIME I SPOKE WITH SOMEONE ABOUT MY CHF DOG'S APPOINTMENT. I am extremely displeased with the lack of communication and professionalism, as well as overall respect by this place. When I called this morning to ask again, WHY, this was being done in the first place, but more so WHY was this not communicated to me beforehand when I scheduled the appointments days ago... AND SPOKE WITH YOUR STAFF DIRECTLY ABOUT THIS CONCERN???? Of course, whoever picked up the phone with me this morning had no idea why I was so displeased... claiming that my dog's condition was "never brought up in discussion prior to now"... don't even get me started. I truly could keep writing about how this place is a huge waste of you and your animals' times, but now I have to start the whole process over and desperately search for grooming for my dogs all over again! Wagging Tails, I strongly suggest you do better on your end because this isn't looking great for you guys, and I can confidently claim that I will not be considering this place in any future, let alone recommending it to anyone. I also see that I am one of MANY poor reviews about your establishment... yikes!

But after a ton of research, it became clear that Contented Cats has no equal in the area - and for great reason! Having CC take care of my lil girl made what could have been a stress-ridden vacation easy and free. From the love Gwen has for, and the joy she clearly takes in animals, to the photos and videos of my kitty playing in their care area made me so comfortable on my vacation. The cat enclosures are 3 to 4 times larger than your average cat-hotel "room" and the majority of them look out of windows to a front yard with chickens (in the summer). The ones inside still get plenty of natural light. What's more, when you visit the space, all of the cats are calm and happy, sleeping or playing. What's more, when I went to pick my girl up, she was all purrs and nuzzles - but also wanted to stay, play, and get some pets from Gwen. To me, that's the sign it was the right choice. Thanks Contented Cats!

My cat has bad separation anxiety and usually has a very hard time being away from me, even if she's at home, and has shown signs of distress for days after I've been gone for an extended period of time, but she was her regular self immediately upon coming home.
