I'm extremely disappointed to say I had a terrible experience at Doggy Style. I've been a loyal customer since 2004, when I first shopped there after moving to NYC from Miami and purchased a beautifully made collar and leash for my Weimaraner, Charlie. Years later, when I adopted my dog Sugar, the first place I went was Doggy Style. I bought another leather collar and leash, assuming the same level of quality and craftsmanship. Last week, after 10 years of use, the leash clip finally broke--which is completely reasonable. I returned to the store and purchased a replacement. This new leash was thinner, noticeably lower quality, and cost $119 with tax, but I paid it believing I was paying for durability and good service. One week later, the grommets popped. I immediately returned to the store expecting a refund or, at the very least, an exchange. Instead, I was told no refunds, only an offer to "fix" it--so it could presumably break again. An exchange was never offered. Only store credit. That response was unacceptable. I make a point to support small businesses, and when I pay premium prices, I expect quality, accountability, and service that stands out. This experience delivered none of that. Poor product quality and worse customer service. I will not be purchasing from Doggy Style again. Deeply disappointed beyond words. read more

**$300+ for a custom collar that wasn't the one I ordered--and the store refused to make it right.** I originally went to Doggystyle to buy a collar I'd seen on another dog. It was over $150, which was already more than I intended to spend, but I absolutely loved it. I was then offered the opportunity to design my own. As a designer, I was excited by the idea of creating something unique, and we spent a considerable amount of time going over every detail together. One detail was especially important: **the silver studs.** During the design process, I was specifically asked if I wanted the collar without studs. I immediately said, **"No."** We even discussed the placement of the studs, and the owner wrote my selections down as we designed the collar together. The custom collar ended up costing **three times the price of the original collar.** When I picked it up, I was so excited that I immediately put it on my dog. It wasn't until later that I realized the studs--the very feature that made me fall in love with these collars in the first place--were completely missing. I contacted the store the **very next day**, expecting them to stand behind a custom order that didn't match what I had ordered. Instead, I was told that because my dog had already worn the collar and because I appeared happy when I picked it up, they wouldn't do anything. This wasn't buyer's remorse. I didn't change my mind. **I simply did not receive the collar I ordered.** I later asked for a copy of my order and was only sent a small portion of the notes--not the complete design we had gone over together. Ironically, I would have been much happier buying the original collar off the shelf. Instead, I paid three times as much for a custom collar that doesn't reflect my design, the order I placed, or the reason I fell in love with these collars in the first place. read more

The owner of Doggy Style (Annie? Andy?) is dismissive, abrasive, and rude every time. She is always grumpy and always likes to complain about something to customers (not a good look). The ironic thing is, she also complains about the lack of customers - but when an actual customer comes in, she doesn't even greet you when you come in! Nor does she bother to say thank you when you buy something (which, um, actually supports her business!). It's unbelievable rudeness. She seems like a miserable person. It's a bad vibe on a lovely block with wonderful shops and cafes, where literally everyone else is friendly. We could all just shop on Amazon; it's cheaper and easier. So here's a note to the Doggystyle owner: your prices are *very* expensive. When a customer walks into your shop, say hello. Do not ignore them. Look up and greet them. Thank them for stopping by your store. And if they make a purchase, guess what? Try saying thank you. I mean, come on. I'm never coming into your store again. However, you can use this feedback as a lesson for how to treat other customers, a lesson in decency, and maybe you'll see a change. You're just plain mean to people and you do not even seem to like your customers. No wonder the store is empty. This neighborhood, Greenwich Village, is great about supporting local business owners--but we expect to be treated with kindness, appreciation, and warmth. The opposite of how you treat people at DoggyStyle. If you're dealing with burnout, either sell your business to someone who loves what they do, or just shut down. We don't need you on University Place when there are so many other nice people looking for us to stop in and chat, shop, and support them. read more

I had a terrible experience at DoggyStyle. I was repeatedly told that the groom was $80 and teeth were an additional $20 when I called in. I even called the day before to confirm the price. When they rang me up, they charged me $145. No apologies were made and it was insinuated that I made up the information. Beyond this, I repeatedly asked them not to cut my dog's hair too short. This was his first groom, he's a 6 month old Yorkie puppy, and I didn't want a short groom. They completely ignored my request and proceeded to essentially shave him and gave him a super choppy cut. I hate the haircut and he looks like a different dog. I'm deeply disappointed in the experience and I won't be coming back after this. I would give this 0 stars if I could. read more

Have been taking my dog here for 6 years. The last appointment I had booked, they canceled on me. Today I tried to book my dog in for a grooming and was flat out told no. No reason no explanation, just "we are booked and not taking any appointments." Highly recommend avoiding taking your dog here and finding a place that is consistent and pleasant. read more

I really have made a real attempt to give this business a chance. Ive come here 4-5 times and every time, purchased a service or an item. everything other than the treats and a stuffed toy has been a disaster. The service being the most frustrating of all. I bought a harness and leash here, the leash was fine- adorned with the doggy style tag. The harness, well it bleeds on my pup. It's a pink harness and within 2 months I noticed a discoloration on my puppy and took her to the vet because it was pink, I thought it was a reaction but no.. just the bleeding from the harness. The collar I bought to match ALSO bleeds. Frustrating and upsetting. I let it go. Let's support local business right? I afterwards ordered a charm for my pups collar, name of dog and number. I believe it was 40 dollars - engraved and it takes about a month. It arrived and within 6 weeks you couldn't distinguish what number was engraved. I came back, they took the collar and charm said they would speak to Andy the owner and call me. 3 days later.. no call. I called in, "oh we sent it out we will call you when it's fixed". Great thanks, I appreciate the follow up or I mean lack there of. I received it back 3weeks later fixed. My last time patronizing DS, was to get my pup washed, expressed and trim the tush. Brianna was the groomer. Again I received really rude service which had been a constant, but I let it go. People have bad days, things happen. They didn't trim her tush. I have a 20 dollar bill for tip, and the owner was actually taking care of me that day, asked if I wanted to leave a tip on the card when paying (they had a sign that says please tip cash) I replied I had cash. The response was equivocal to oh you can read, then a soliloquy of how no one listens etc and the same snooty attitude displayed by the employees I've interacted with. Needless to say HARD PASS on this place. I can assure you the attitude comes from the top. They charge for top of the line service and products and don't deliver. Honestly I don't understand how this place can have anything less than 5 starts. I had such a great experience the other week. This store has been on my list (even before getting my pup Sonny), growing up as a teen in NYC I'd giggle at the name every time I walked by. Anyway, we stopped in and were greeted by the staff and they were nothing less than patient, kind, and helpful. They sized sonny for his new coat and even gave him some treats! They are really fantastic here, I have an old skittish dog that is terrified of strangers, and hates being dropped off anywhere for anything. That being said he does not mind going here, which for him is huge. They also do great work, George always looks perfect when he gets out of here, almost like he has a blowout for dogs? While I don't LOVE the name persay, this place does excellent grooming and has a great selection of unique collars, pet clothes and beds available. Super reliable business, although one time I showed up for a 9am groom job and the store wasn't even open! I panicked bc I had to get to work (and couldn't take my animal obviously), but luckily I didn't wait much longer. That could have really been a disaster, but wasn't. Someone probably just slept in. No other problems except that one time. I recommend getting a grooming appointment on weekdays because weekends will take more time, I guess due to the amount of appointments they have. My dog has silky, not too complicated hair, and she took 4.5 hours on a Saturday. We actually had to cancel plans to go pick her up. LOL just know that if your appointment is on Saturday...better not make any rigid plans! :) read more

I came in today for a custom dog jacket. The service I received was so poor. There was only 1 other customer in the store when I arrived and 2 assistants. The one who was available could not custom fit the jacket so I was told to wait. I waited 10 minutes and watched the other employee serve 3 other customers which came in to the store after me, even though she knew I was waiting. I ended up walking out. Very disappointing experience. If you want the groomer to do exactly the opposite of what you ask for, go here. Was very excited to take my dog in today, she hadn't gotten groomed in about 2 months, so she was due for a cut. Walked into the very welcoming store and friendly staff. I was very vocal about what I wanted, I even talked to the groomer personally. After 3 hours, I receive a call which stated that it was time to pick my dog up. I was so excited to see the results, the groomer assured me that he would do exactly what was asked. When I got there, the groomer brought up my dog, he did not do anything that I asked for. It's almost like he didn't even understand what I asked for. He cut all of her fur off, the cut is so uneven, and you can see the indents from the grooming machine all over her body. The cut is very unprofessional to be charging $145. Overall, the place is overpriced and the results are disappointing. read more

Andy and crew always have the highest quality toys, food, and accessories. I have a French bulldog and they made us a custom down jacket, which is the only one I will use...the absolute easiest put on, take off, and clean. My dog, Monkey, always loves coming in here for her daily treat. Everyone who works here is extremely helpful and kind to the both of us. I don't know what I'd do without them close by. Bought a very expensive leather leash(June 2012) from this store. In less than a year the leash started to fall apart and can not be used. Had I known the lease was going to last less than a year I never would have purchased it. The leash was well taken care of and not used in the rain or played with by my dog. I brought the leash back to the store and was told by the owner that she would not replace the leash or do anything for me. BTW the owner was not very pleasant. Nice having yelp around to let others know they should not purchase the expensive leashes sold at this store. There are a lot of other great pet stores to go to in the area. read more

This place is a doggie death trap. Yes indeed, the village area off University NEEDS a dog groomer and store desperately. Unfortunately, The awful and rude Andy the owner of DOGGY STYLE and her front staff are the WORST incompetant team who have no business caring for dogs or any animals for that matter. I don't mind paying 100 to 150 for good services but the grooming and Andys attitude are a terrible combo. I took my dog to be groomed here and he NEVER recovered. When he came out of the appt. I was told in a nonchalant manner, that not to worry BUT, another dog bit my dog while being groomed...no idea why my dog was roaming around with other dogs in the back unsupervised but apparently that was the deal. When I got home I realized Boo had a huge open bite mark on his neck. The staff and owner lied about the altercation just to avoid dealing with it. So Unprofessional. Plus, my dog now can't stand going near water bottles after being groomed there. Who knows, maybe he was beaten with a water bottle??? I'll never know the truth in this entire incident because Andy is not truthful. My dog NEVER responded to grooming in such a NEGATIVE manner. Now, He can't even walk by the store with out shaking and pulling to run the other way. Bottom line is this, the nasty owner thinks she is doing you and your dog a favor. Not the case Andy. You need to respect and care better for animals before you run a dog care center. Making $$$$$ isn't everything. Eventually the truth will catch up to you! Readers, do yourself a huge FAVOR and NEVER step foot into this store. Do not support Andy and DOGGY STYLE! In fact, if you need grooming in the area I found a fantastic place to go, HAPPY PAWS! The staff cares, no cages, great prices and amazing service. Plus, a fantastic array of dog supplies, food and the like. For dog supplies and food you should give your money to people who really care about animals and the proper respect and care for dogs. Try, WHISKERS, they deliver! The owner takes it upon herself to add extra tips onto your credit card without your knowledge. This is FRAUD and completely illegal. I have a frenchie that I take once a month for grooming. They always do a great job and she smells soooo good when I pick her up! Scheduling an appointment is a must- they usually get pretty packed during the weekend. I really like how well they cut my dogs nails because they buff them and they stay really smooth. Review is for customer service. I bought a dog toy from here a while back and was so sad when it went missing after our dog stayed w a dog sitter. Normally I wouldn't care, but this was a special toy bc the squeaker inside made my dog sing/howl along. Called doggy style to see if they still had the toy and if they would ship across the country and sure enough they did. The only problem was they sent me the right toy but wrong size which has a standard small squeaker. Spoke w the owner and she immediately resolved the issue and sent over the correct size. Really wasn't expecting this to he handled so well and was expecting the worst, but I am so pleased with the customer service here! read more

Love this place! My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel has been getting groomed here for approx 2 years, by a couple different groomers, and it always comes out great! They listen to what I request for the grooming and the pup always comes out looking fresh and clean and great! Not to mention all of the items they sell. Fantastic winter coats here- they've lasted several NYC winters (which is saying something!). Yes the products can be a but pricy, but you get what you pay for. Lastly, I got my dog's carrying bag here and he is-literally-OBSESSED. Great quality and lives through lots of wear and tear (he would sleep in it ALL day if I didn't take it away!). Just don't Google "Doggy Style" to look for the phone number, I had a rude awakening after that, LOL. read more

Doggystyle took great care of him, were sensitive to his chicken allergy (being sure to only give him his chicken-free treats throughout the groom) and delivered on all our requests.
