Not sure what has happened to this place. I have had my cat groomed with a lion cut here a few times and it came out great. Today, after providing a reference picture of my cat to the groomer and discussing it--he even asked me to text it to him--it came out totally botched. The mane was taken off entirely! I called to see what happened. The manager admitted that the cut didn't look at all like the reference picture but didn't offer any way to make it right, no refund or discount off future service - nothing. he said the service was done and it was just a matter of preference. I've been taking my Golden Retriever to Happy Paws for grooming for about two years now. We are so lucky that we found Lydia - she is the best there is. She is always punctual and her cuts are the best we've had in Manhattan. She never rushes and takes fantastic care of my dog. My dog is a little bit anxious but Lydia is wonderful during the drop off process. She also makes sure that I receive a call from the front desk when there is about 30 minutes left to the cut so that my dog doesn't have to wait for me to arrive. Lydia always takes the time to discuss my dog's hair and whatever her needs are prior to grooming rather than just assuming what I want done. She is so personable and my dog absolutely adores her. Your staff refused to acknowledge that their might have been an error in communication and that is where the problem started. When I told the gentleman with the tips that I had called the day before and confirmed his exact words to me were, "that is not true as Nathan was on staff and he would have relayed that Information to me." Let's not skip over the fact that despite the fact that two dogs were scheduled you only had one on the books. As for threatening your staff, that is laughable! Like I said to them "why the f/@" would I travel from the Bronx without the vaccine record if I had been told it was missing. If your staff is too incompetent to tell the customer what they need that is on you. Who walks around with their pets' vaccine cards?! I just picked up my dog from Happy Paws. He was in just for a bath (not a full grooming). The price listed in the store indicated that baths start at $75, so I assumed the price for my medium sized, very short-haired dog's bath would fall somewhere around that price or maybe just a bit more since he's not tiny (but he's also not large). However, upon pick up, I was charged $120. When I questioned the amount, the people at the desk told me that this is the standard charge for a Goldendoodle because of the thickness and curliness of the hair, which I could easily understand EXCEPT THAT MY DOG'S HAIR WAS JUST SHAVED a few weeks ago, and it is less than a quarter of an inch long! When I pointed that fact out to them (and they could easily see the dog right there in front of them), they had no response other than to reiterate that this is how much they charge for a Goldendoodle. The price is ridiculous for a medium sized dog with a completely shaved body, but the people at the desk seemed very happy to overcharge for their service, so this is just a cautionary notice to buyer beware, and make sure you find out in advance how much the groomers plan to charge you before you put your puppy in their hands :( read more

This place has a decent amount of clothing options and dog beds. They however did not have any fleece options for the cold or onzies which I think is crucial for the legs in the winter of New York. The smell is a little strong in here towards the back right of the store but it is a dog store after all that houses dog food as well as acts as a doggie day car day and night. They charge $35 for 6hrs and they provide tours as well as more information via website and phone. Also I went in looking for nutro and they only carried a few brands in this store They did not have much for a traveling dog accessories wise but they do have a decent amount of traveling soft shell kennels and bags for on the go. Sherpa is a great brand approved by airlines and they have that in store as well. Brittney was very helpful she ran the cash register but always was very knowledgeable about all the product carried. My sweet little Penelope-the golden doodle and I have similar hair and similar issues with our mixed breed heritage. Penelope is a golden retriever and poodle mix. Nadja is a Russian and African-American mix. Both of us have some fabulous, but funky hair. I accosted a local, walking his perfectly coiffed golden doodle after brunching at Relish (ooh must remember to review). He sent me to Happy Paws for breed-specific hair brushes. I was planning on spending a mint but the prices were better than Petco and I love how boutique-y Happy Paws is. The customer service is also fantastic. The employee who helped me didn't even blink an eye when I sheepishly asked if there was such a thing as detangler for dogs. She steered me to magic. I've had plenty experience with Happy Paws over the years and though I would like to give them more stars, I just feel that I can't because one of my family dogs was injured there. A few years ago when picking up my family dogs from Happy Paws, one of the dogs' eyes was punctured. She wasn't bleeding and wasn't in pain but another pup's nail or something definitely struck her. As a result, she can't see very well out of that one eye. Little Betsy is a trooper though and she acts just like a normal dog. Unfortunately, before my family moved to Florida, this was the only affordable doggy kennel to keep them in so we were kinda hostage to the place her little eye was injured. Overall the space is nice, they keep is as clean and fresh smelling as u can a kennel and they have doggie webcams and cute puppy supplies. read more

As for boarding overnight, they do it with style and panache. Want a suite for your baby? They have them, and don't think you're insane for even asking. Special needs, special diets, making you feel like you aren't a horrible person for leaving your animal there--they are totally at your service and when you walk out, you don't feel a sickening dread that you might not see your pet again when you return. They carry every conceivable pet-related thingie you could possibly need. They groom. They offer referrals to other pet-related service providers. When you check out, there are dishes of treats for your Fido, and leash hooks to free your hands from holding Fluffy while you write out your check. The staff actually knows something about animals and animal behavior. Prices are reasonable. I have paid less here for the same things I have bought at Petco. You can watch dogs playing in the playrooms while you shop. Note the tags on all of them, making sure that not only do you get the dog you dropped off, but that nobody but you or your designated picker-upper can take your dog home. Best of all, you can log on to their website and actually watch your pet via webcam. That peace of mind is worth every penny it costs. I love Happy Paws. Josie loves Happy Paws. I will say that their assortment of merchandise is impressive, but... I bought this yelp deal that was supposed to give me $75 for $50, which mind you, doesn't say anything about what it actually goes towards and what. My total came up to about $55 something. I added all the extra stuff for my fussy pug to get all his everything done (booty cleaning, brush teeth, clean ears, trimming hooves), and I still had a portion of that deal left over. In reading the terms and conditions, I get that the voucher has to be used up in the initial use, but I wasn't informed of my actual total and was just told to pay tax. Are you fucking kidding me? Soooo that extra $25 doesn't go towards tax? You couldn't offer me more shit to use up the whole $75 and have me buy more shit to actually make you more money? lol... Talk about customer service. First of all the groomer did not even listen to what I wanted, second I hate that they take the poor dog to a basement somewhere and you cant keep an eye on them- only God know what they do- not cool there should be cameras or something for the owners to watch, after reading a google review that people saw happy paws employees KICK the dogs I was so nervous i almost got sick. Then I paid over 100 for a grooming experience that was wrong, she obviously didn't listen to me when I spoke for ten full minutes describing what type of cut I wanted and the very worst part is when he came out he looked upset and kept shaking his head, I asked if he had water stuck in his ear they said oh please there is nothing wrong with him, made me feel stupid, then all night he persisted and all the next day still shaking his head- I took him to the vet the next night and the vet said he had an ear infection. I will Never EVER come here again that for sure. The only reason why I gave it two stars instead of one is because i liked the boutique. I was happy to discover a store that seemed big enough to carry something specific. When I approached one of the female attendants, I said, "Hello, how are you?" There was no response. I explained what I was looking for (a bell ringer for our potty-training puppy to declare he wants to go outside). She said, "No, we don't have that here." I started to ask if maybe there were a chain or cat toys that jingled and that I could buy when the phone rang. She didn't ask me to hold on but instead ignored me, picked up the phone (the other girl was not busy with a customer and could've answered the phone) and I was aghast at the lack of customer service. I left immediately. I went to the neighboring PetSmart where three employees helped me find something to create my product. They were very, very courteous. Little sweaters, leashes and collars, a bigger choice of boots, the cutest dog beds, AND (most important) BIODEGRADABLE poop bags. Some items are more expensive, and others are cheaper. Overall you'll get pretty much the same prices. The real thing is about dog food. They have a great variety of choice regarding the high quality food. They have Orijen, for exemple. This place is definitely a place to visit if you happen to be around NoHo or SoHo. They always have plenty of dogs to see in their 3 big rooms. Rooms are set on dog size - one for small, medium, and large. They have many adorable kinds of dogs that you can look at and to watch them play. Many will happily smile back at you. Each room has one person watching over the dogs, a child's playpen(with a slide), and a "bad dog" jail cell. Usually, dogs that try to hump, or fight aggressively are put into "jail". However, it is not degrading at all. It is meant to cool them down. Sadly, their rooms are often packed with like 10-20 dogs at once - and sometimes one person just can't watch over that many dogs. I have dogs myself, but I have never brought them here. I have heard their prices are ridiculously high and unpredictable. Their dog food is of standard price. But their toys are overpriced. I bought a doggie bed here before - it is of good quality and my dog loves it. Sometimes, they have free dog food samples, so come check it out. It is a very nice and clean environment, the facilities are clean, and it does not smell. The staff varies from friendly to tempermental. They may be hard to find because they share a space with a Chinese Restaurant supply company. There is a small parking lot that fits like three-four cars, but it is meant for the supply company.
