I tried a new doggy daycare for my puppy Lucy yesterday, and I can confidently say she really enjoyed it. One feature I especially appreciated was that they offer both indoor and outdoor play areas, which is very important to me given our hot summers and the fact that I have a brachycephalic dog. She was completely worn out when she got home, which is always a great sign. I highly recommend this daycare -- the entire staff was friendly, accommodating, and made me feel confident that they genuinely care about both the dogs and their owners. Dog's Rule is a day dog-sitting facility which also offers grooming (requires an appointment), daily pick-up from a kennel or vet's boarding facility, and exceptionally personalized service. Though pets can only stay from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm, Dog's Rule does have its own high-end van which will drop off and pick up pets who are staying elsewhere. This is the best facility in town for daily pet care and pet-sitting. The staff is incredibly nice and all are dedicated animal fans. The building is made up of a large indoor area and an enormous outdoor area. Small dogs have an indoor playroom (littered with entertaining toys, blankets, and even a small plastic castle on top of which dogs fight for vertical supremacy) with an outdoor run, while large dogs stay outside and enjoy the industrial-sized misting fans, pool, and constant companionship of the staff. Be warned: Each dog is taken through an interview process before being allowed in. This involves ensuring that the pet is friendly to other animals and has all of his or her shots up-to-date (and they *will* check with your vet). We love Dogs Rule. We have been going here for about 3 years now. She has no problem whatsoever here. The staffs genuinely care about the dogs. They remember everyone's name and take great care of them. I didn't know how amazing this place was until I took my dog to another facility in town that offers boarding and day care. One of my babies is a rescue that takes sometime to adjust to new environments. She was denied day care access at the other place! She does love it here and has no problem whatsoever. We ended up finding out that Dogs Rule offer drop-off/pick-up service to our vets. This is a life saver! We now board them at our vets and have them go to school at this place. Traveling with your dog is fun, but dining, shopping and sightseeing can be hampered by the friend on the end of the leash. Many hotels (LaQuinta is great for this) are pet-friendly, but they don't like guests to leave their pets alone in their rooms. That was our problem in Memphis. We had one day to see what we could and we knew you can't even walk a dog on Beale Street. We found Dogs Rule Day Care online and discovered that they insist on an interview before accepting a dog for care. Since we were on the road, we knew that would be impossible. We contacted Michael at Dogs Rule and explained that our small dog had lots of day-care socialization and all his shots were up to date. Michael said we should bring him in and we did. Their mid-town location was ideal for us. Our day bouncing around Memphis was great, but I think our dog's day at Dogs Rule was even more fun for him. The facility is large and well staffed, the big dogs stay separate from the small dogs and everything is run professionally. Our dog would give a big thumbs up for Dogs Rule if he had a thumb, and we'd wag our tails if we had them. We'll be through Memphis again and we'll go back to Dogs Rule. read more

I actually work for "Dogs Rule" and I can't recommend it enough. Both my dogs go with me on a daily basis and they love it. Besides play time, we are also great for dogs that need socialization with dogs, people or both. And don't be threatened by the interview process. What people usually consider to be aggressive behavior is actually the way a dog plays. While there are dogs that have been turned away, it doesn't happen often. Some dogs just need to learn how to play. I wanted to add to Ciara's wonderful post that we are actually open from 7am to 6pm and that while we do offer grooming, it's pretty much for clients only. If you bring your dog to daycare, grooming is available to you. Also, we have taken some dogs on the day of their interview, especially when they are visiting from out of town and need a safe place for their dog to have a good time while they see the sights. Dogs Rule has some flexible rules and are willing to work with people. read more

On a cross-country road trip with our two dogs, my fiancé and I had one sight we just had to see, and that was Graceland. We couldn't bring our pups of course, so we had to find them day care in the Memphis area. We knew we didn't want to simply board them at a kennel, because our dogs aren't normally kept in cages, so we opted to pay a little more and bring them to Dogs Rule. We called ahead and explained our situation, and thankfully, we were able to skip the interview process and bring them right in. We ended up paying $35 for the half day for both dogs. Not bad! We were taking a cross-country road trip and wanted to stop in Memphis to have a day of sight-seeing. Obviously, we couldn't bring Charlie with us, so I searched the vast wonders of the internet and found Dogs Rule. From start to finish, this process of getting Charlie into the center was as easy as could be. Michael was unbelievably helpful and was gracious enough to accept Charlie's records via email. I love that the dogs are given a specific area based on age and size. Charlie is a little mutt, but loves playing with doggies his size, and his indoor playroom was perfect for him (even if he did decide to show some Virginia hospitality by immediately pooping in a corner....) Because Charlie is a super-rescue, crates scare him, so since the dogs have naptime in a crate during lunchtime, I let the staff know, and they were incredibly accommodating. They gave him an extra large crate with a blanket and offered to bring him into the lobby in case he didn't handle that well. Sure enough, he made it through the day just fine. After we picked him up, he was so content and sleepy all at once that he just looked stoned the entire drive to our next destination. A sleepy pup is a happy pup! The rate is incredibly reasonable and I cannot recommend this place and its staff enough. Thank you so much for all you did to make Charlie's day fun, and to make our lives easier. Incredible. We were traveling through Memphis and needed a place to keep our canine for one day. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, the play areas were well maintained and clean. Most importantly our labradoodle who is a constant companion quickly took to the staff and other dogs and had a stress free experience. The owners here are so welcoming and the staff are all very friendly. I felt very comfortable leaving my Shorkie here knowing how well the dogs are cared for. They have a package deal for 10 visits/$200, worth it! There is also a shuttle bus that picks up/drops off the dogs who live on Mud Island. I have been taking my dog here for a month now and it has been a great experience. My dog is full of energy and is always ready to play. Both my girlfriend and I work full time and go to school full time so we do not have as much time during the day to give him the exercise he needs. I was very cautious at first about leaving my dog somewhere all day but after meeting everyone who works there and seeing the facility I was very impressed. The staff knows everyone by name and remembers my dog by name as well. They seem to put the time and effort into making it a great investment and experience for myself and my dog. Not only is my dog getting plenty of exercise during the day while I'm at work, but he is also becoming more confident and social with other dogs and people. Now, when I take him to the dog park, he does not run away from larger dogs and roll on his back but he plays with everyone. Definitely worth the money and I would recommend Dogs Rule to anyone! read more

On April 10th, we arrived in Memphis with the main purpose of visiting Graceland. Of course, the weather decided to warm up that week and leaving my Shih-Tzu in the car was not an option especially when we found out it would take at least 3 hours to do the tour. I called "Dogs Rule" and asked if they could accommodate my Aggie for a few hours. They said I was more then welcome to bring her for the day. When we got there, we were greeted by a very nice staff member who took Aggie out to play with the others. I would not normally just take her somewhere but I felt so comfortable about the surroundings. Because of "Dogs Rule", we were able to enjoy our visit to Graceland and not have to worry about Aggie's safety and well being. They have playtime and naptime for the dogs and there is one dog who has been going to day care twice a week for 13 years. That says something. I want to thank the staff of "Dogs Rule" for their kindness to my Aggie and for allowing me to spend a worry free day. read more
