I've been taking pets to Walnut Grove since the early'90s, and have been very happy with the service they provide. There are definitely vets I prefer, but they are all good. I've had MANY dogs and cats treated, as I fostered for years, so I can definitely speak to their quality. One of the things that touches me is that the staff & vets always remembers my various pets, and it often feels like Norm at Cheers when we're there. They genuinely act excited & happy to see my four legged companions! Six years ago, we dealt with the trauma of having my 7 year old soul pup diagnosed first with cancer of the spleen (which weighed 10 pounds & was the size of a mini basketball). Dr. Slattery did an amazing job of safely removing it (which would be beyond the skills of many vets). Dexter didn't even need a transfusion! Dr. Slattery suspected extremely aggressive (and deadly) hemangiosarcoma, but Dexter couldn't be treated with chemotherapy because the pathology report was inconclusive. It was SO traumatic! Dr. Slattery saved the day (again) by coming up with a treatment protocol that helped Dex survive for another precious 18 months. (This diagnosis generally either is found when the dog drops dead or has a maximum survival of 6 weeks.) He referred me to an acupuncturist & Chinese herbalist, told me about to find a beneficial anti-cancer diet, and prescribed medications to help Dexter medically. He was with us every step of the way, and clearly was sad that we couldn't save him. Dex had all the support he needed to continue playing athletic fetch daily and ate very well until the last two days before we had to let him go. Now Dexter was VERY tough, smart, & determined to stay with our family as long as he possibly could as he was the heart of it, so YMMV. Dr. Slattery tried a Hail Mary exploratory surgery on his last day, and said Dexter had cancer everywhere & he had never seen so much in any dog. He didn't know how Dex had still been playing enthusiastically & eating well the day before. I think it was definitely a credit to Dr. Slattery's efforts that Dexter survived so long. The prices at the clinic have definitely increased significantly since Dr. Halford's son took over practice management. Maybe he doesn't appreciate how expensive it is to take good care of your beloved animal companions? I have definitely sacrificed things I personally needed in order to pay for vet care for my precious cats & big dogs at this clinic. In their defense, though, I haven't found any inexpensive vets & I don't want the ones who finished at the bottom of their classes, so I think you get what you pay for in most cases. I do wish they'd moderate the prices of office visits & nail trims, though. Conclusion (if anyone reads this far!): I strongly recommend Walnut Grove as your vet. They truly care & have taken excellent care of over 40 pets of mine (foster & permanent family members). They do very well with both cats & dogs. read more

My dog was misdiagnosed and we were charged 325.00 for a sick exam (no labs & no X-rays) and 4 meds, 2 of the meds were not needed nor indicated for the actual issue and somehow my pup was given a B12 shot, but it was never mentioned, we just saw it on the bill. Our young puppy had her first issue since we have had her. As nervous nellies, we wanted to come in same day. The clinic was kind enough to work us in in the evening. Dr. Breland was extremely caring and answered all questions patiently. All staff were lovely and our baby went home safe and sound. The vets are good but they are too expensive in my opinion. My old vet moved and since I changed to WAC my bills have been almost twice as much. Twice I had appointments for my dogs to be bathed and clipped and when I got there I was told that I wasn't on their list. That was the end for me. read more

Walnut Grove Animal Clinic has been my vet for the past 2.5 years after switching. We have only seen Dr. Baer, and he is wonderful! We have seen him for everything from yearly physicals and vaccinations, upset tummies, and weird bumps. My lab has a history of bowel obstruction and has had two previous surgeries (at a different vet). Recently, he was showing similar signs and WGAC was able to fit him in, get him seen from examination to X-ray all the way through surgery to remove scar tissue that caused my dog pain and discomfort as well as an IBS biopsy. Dr. Baer has been very clear, informative, and kind to me and my dog! I highly recommend him! He is not a salesman, and will tell you what you need with extreme accuracy. We have also seen Dr. Taylor briefly and she was also amazing. Because of him, our boy will be home safe in a few days recovering! They also have very good prices. They charged me $120 to look at the spot without telling me how much beforehand. They told me not to worry about it! It kept getting worse and his health was declining. Took him to another vet today and it turns out he's had fleas the entire time. $120 and you can tell me he has fleas? They just want your money and don't actually care for your pets. read more

I can't praise this clinic enough! It is cleaner than most people clinics. I love the techs there. They are so good to us and really know what they are doing. Dr. Baer is an amazing vet. Dr. Baer is the best vet we have ever had. He is compassionate, obviously cares about our pets, and they have thrived under his care. They also treat LGBT+ families with great respect--I can't say that about some other clinics we've been to. They don't try to "up-sell" you on expensive supplements or foods. Advocate for your pet bc half the time they don't know who they are treating and why. This place is a revolving door with grooming, dog day care, clinic and boarding all at once. Chloe Haynes, DVM is our dog Missy's vet. We were grateful that Walnut Grove Animal Clinic was able to get us in for an appointment with Missy on the same day we called, because we had the great fear upon us that due to the dog's symptom, Missy might have had to be "put to sleep". Dr. Haynes could not have been more wonderful or more problem solving. Dr. Haynes was focused, attentive, patient with our countless questions, informative & compassionate. Dr. Haynes is a good communicator. We left feeling we understood quite a bit more than when we went in. Mercifully, Missy does not have to be put to sleep at this time. Missy is having a problem (due to arthritis) keeping a back leg in the position it is supposed to be in. Beside for medicine & other suggestions for help, Dr. Haynes additionally helped us creatively by also suggesting we put mats down at home to give Missy's problem foot more traction for safety rather than dealing with a perhaps slippery surface. The staff is also always very courteous, attentive & patient with our concerns. read more

I was going there for a few years but got fed up with the disrespectful front desk staff - I usually had a good experience with Dr Debes and the vet techs, although it's true that the service is extremely pricy. So we found a new vet. Unfortunately my cat got very sick (we had been managing chronic kidney disease for a couple years) and needed immediate care and my new clinic was booked for the day. Reluctantly I returned to Walnut Grove, hoping to see Dr Debes or someone who knew my cat, but instead saw Dr Breland. She recommended overnight hospitalization so of course we did it. When I came to pick him up the next day, the tech told me Dr Breland said he should eat only prescription food from now on - that was it. I'm surprised they didn't try to sell it to me and did not tell me where I could get it. Previously I had ordered the food through their online store, but shipping always took weeks. So they told me to feed him prescription food but gave me absolutely no suggestions on how to do that, and no other suggestions for pallative care. Back home he continued to decline so we took him to another vet. They were able to get his bloodwork from Walnut Grove, and this new vet actually showed us the numbers. His kidney levels were literally off the charts. There was no way that feeding him prescription food only was going to stabilize him - probably the worst veterinary response I've ever gotten. He had to be euthanized just days later. So I paid Walnut Grove over $500 for terrible care and on top of that, they charged me the account balance for someone else's dog!! I don't even have a dog. And they have STILL not refunded the charge, almost a month later. NEVER going back. Cat families, stay away! read more

Can't say enough good things about this place, and the people who work there. They are professional, friendly, kind, warm, efficient, and knowledgeable. From the receptionists, to the technicians, on through to the vets, the staff is helpful and caring. You and your pet are in good hands here. Plus, they have a fantastic doggie day care section, where you dogs can play with other dogs, sit by themselves and meditate, or hang out with the dogsitters. My dog was misdiagnosed last year with a benign cyst on his kidney that was of "no concern". I contacted them and brought him in every couple of months concerned that my dogs health was declining. They continued to tell me he was just old. In reality, his blood-work, for months was showing signs of kidney dysfunction which I was not told ("blood-work was within normal limits"). Additionally, per his medical records I received when transferring his care, discovered that they diagnosed him with IVDD a year ago, which I was never told and I was continuously told he just had some arthritis in his back legs. We were dismissed, given improper medications that had warnings indicating negative impacts on kidney function, and received negligent and neglectful care. I had enough and took him to another vet, but at that point... It was too late. His health was already too far deteriorated. Our new vet looked at his original scans and immediately knew that is wasn't just a cyst. 10 months later, from the original discovery of the kidney mass...my sweet boy died. I begged for answers and we received horrible care and service, from two different doctors there and front desk staff. Please, be cautious when seeking care from Walnut Grove. I don't want any family to go through what we experienced. I've been left absolutely devastated. read more

Relocated to Memphis. Several friends recommended WGAC. The facility was nice, it was big and busy, the prices are about 3x what our previous vet costs were *in a rural area* - but we love our pets so ... we felt the vet care was attentive. We travel and sometimes want our dogs to board or go to daycare. We had our older lab cleared for a daycare tryout (which is required and makes sense + must have ALL vaccinations possible). When we picked her up her collar had been chewed completely in half. We were told "a puppy" would not leave her alone all day. She looked traumatized and like she had been punished. Nothing was said about the owners of the puppy, why the puppy was allowed in daycare if it is this disruptive, or why they do not separate the dogs better. Ultimately, our dog was neglected for the better part of a day (that we paid for) and her collar was destroyed. 2 stars because we liked our Vet - otherwise - we are looking elsewhere for all services - they seem overbooked and very short staffed to handle to number of dogs. I took my dog up there this past Saturday (7/18/2020). I was immediately put into a room, all of the employees were so sweet and loving on my baby! He had a hurt leg and they did their best to exam him but he's so strong! He's a Great Dane! They gave me everything I needed and it was a great price for the care I received! This vet was recommended to me by several friends when I was thinking of adopting a dog. I went in to ask them questions, even before I adopted, and it was clear that this was the vet for me. They answered all my questions and offered up anecdotes of their own. They put me at ease. My dog has had many health problems, chief among them, heartworms. Maybe it's because I'm in there all the time, or maybe it's because my doggy is super adorable, but the staff always knows him and recognizes me when I come in. Whoever said they don't get on a first name basis was trippin'. Everyone asks about my dog and they have a courteous schedule of follow up calls after a visit. My vet is usually Dr. Slattery, so he's my favorite, but I've had the chance to meet some others too. All the techs are great, and the front office staff is very friendly. Their boarding fees are also very reasonable. If you check in on Facebook when you're paying your bill, you can get a 5% discount! Very helpful if your pet's procedures are expensive. I'm not sure if the discount can be combined with the check-in deal on Yelp, but I am definitely going to ask the next time I'm there. Little discounts can add up, especially if you're at the vet as often as I am. read more

Where to begin to brag about this clinic... Let's start with when you walk in. It is very clean. When you walk-in, the waiting room is very large & there is absolutely no unpleasant odor. You are greeted with a smile & you are put in an exam room within 3 minutes (my experience). The rooms are just as nice. A vet tech will come to see you for the initial consultation. Shortly thereafter, the vet comes in for the examination. I have had the pleasure of working with 3 different vets. I cannot choose one over the other. All are extremely honest (don't push products) & tell you the best way to treat your pet. I also use the daycare (safe place to bring your dog to play with other dogs) & boarding. The daycare is out back & is much larger than you think. On the hot days, they put a pool out. As long as weather permits, you dog will have PLENTY of play time. My Australian Heeler loves to come to daycare. Just ask & her ears perk up. Put the leash on her & ask again, she is at the door all giddy with excitement. I love the fact the daycare uses a site for you to view your pet. It is truly a little treat when traveling. The ENTIRE staff is absolutely wonderful. My little dog is known there for one reason or another & she does love each person. She recognizes who is coming to see her & she knows what is in store. When she had to be seen for something other than a physical, they give you a follow up call. Don't know if it is their protocol or if each vet cares for their patients that much. They last little tidbit I enjoy are their hours. They are open half a day on Saturday. This is great for those that work. I could brag forever on this place. Never had a bad experience & my lil companion is never afraid to go. For me, that is most important. read more

Terrible experience with Groomers. Unfortunately I gave them several chances and am paying dearly. First time he was given back with several mats behind front legs. Next time no charge and 'okay.' Next time, expecting same groomer because I had asked if she was there. No chance. I had also warned them that he has tracheal collapse. to stay clear of under neck as much as possible. Well, for a yorkie, I had never seen one with a very short cropped choppy beard. Besides looking awful!!!! He was terrorized, very stressed. This was not his typical reaction. He was choking and hacking. it was obvious that under his throat and tracheal area had sustained a lot of trauma. (Obvious because his beard had been chopped off so messily). It has been 2 and one- half weeks and he has definitely sustained injury from being mishandled by this groomer. I am so sad about this. She should never be allowed to touch another dog. read more

After adopting my dog from rescue I setlled on Walnut Grove Animal Clinic after several friends recommended them to me. Friendly and conscientious staff. My 4 yr old Boxer has been going there for almost a year now and I've had nothing but positive experiences. I've seen 2 of the 5 vet's they have on staff (Dr. Breland and Dr. Hoefker) and they've both been great. Pricing is in line with what you would expect for just about any animal clinic and I've never felt they have tried to upsell me on any treatments, vitamins, etc. Would certainly recommend to anyone in the market for a vet. read more

the waiting room is clean and actually smells plesant. the reception staff are also very friendly and always ask if they give give my puppies treats to make them more comfortable. I have 3 dogs that i have brought here and no complaints.
