I've brought my Black Lab Rosie several times a week for nearly 5 years -- primarily for doggy daycare but also grooming and boarding. The staff are all dedicated, professional, and friendly - they care for my dog just like their own. I love when the front desk staff have their dog working along-side them. Communication is top-notch when I'm away and I never worry. She is always glad to go, and happy to see me when I pick her up, ideally after an exit bath. I brought my 5 month puppy to do a temperament test for daycare. We met with the handler and talked about his general temperament and experience playing with other dogs. He was a teething puppy, and a shepherd who is "mouthy". He had lived with other dogs prior to me adopting him, and had played with many neighborhood dogs. Never had he shown aggressive behavior. Unfortunately my puppy failed the test. He was "aggressive" towards the other dog, and "almost started a fight". I was shocked to hear this. He can occasionally bark or "talks" because he is excited. But maybe I don't know my dog and he was nervous, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. When the staff tried to intervene, my puppy was "more than just mouthy". They did not say he bit anyone, nor did they label him as aggressive as I kept asking them. They concluded with that he is too young/not mature enough yet for daycare. We went home feeling defeated and ran into our neighbors's dogs and he played with them so appropriately. I spoke with several other daycares and his trainers (multiple, including behaviorists) - all agreed that Dogtopia didn't give him enough of a chance, and perhaps weren't as trained in dog body language. In retrospect, I realize they were vague in my puppy's reaction and would just repeat the same things. We did a temperament test at another daycare days after and he passed just fine. To this day, a few months later, he has never initiated a fight with another dog. While he is still mouthy, he is a puppy who is still exploring the world with his mouth with no intention to hurt a person and hasn't. I wish I didn't have to defend my dog so much, but it saddens me that Dogtopia didn't want to try and work with us more. The kicker? I told them upfront that he would not be neutered until maybe 2 years due to our vet's recommendation. After he failed, they said "come try again in a few months" which is well after the age he would be before they don't allow intact dogs. Felt very insensitive and an attempt to win us back in a weird way. The staff were nice, don't get me wrong. But some more understanding of puppies and behaviors is needed. We have since found 2 other daycares that he not only thrives at, but are extremely willing to work with my puppy, not that he needed much help with very normal puppy behaviors. read more

We live in LA and were down in San Diego over thanksgiving visiting. Our dog Stella is very social and hyper so we decided to drop her for daycare to expel some energy after being crated for the day. My dog Leia went to this location for almost 3 years since we first moved to San Diego. Just said goodbye to them a week ago as I have relocated to Baltimore. I HIGHLY recommend bringing your dog here. They always took care of Leia whether daycare, boarding, or grooming. Leia would always bark and howl in excitement as I pulled up to the parking lot or when she was waiting her turn at the front desk to be taken to the playroom. Never had any issues with any of the staff they were awesome, and they always communicated when something would happen with Leia. I will miss them and I know Leia will too. My husband took our dog for the assessment and he got a good feel for the place. I have been bringing my dog here for a little over a year now for baths and I'm done. We took him a couple months ago, when we picked him up everything was fine. We got home and I noticed blood spots on the floor and in his bed. We look at his paws and noticed they clipped it too short and he was bleeding. When I called to ask if they noticed anything, they denied everything. I get accidents happen but nobody was held accountable for what happened. It's always "I'll talk to whoever did it". That brings us to today, I went to pick up my dog and we got home. I went to take his harness off and they put his harness on entirely incorrect. I had to CUT his harness off of him. I didn't notice it when I left because there was a bandana on him like they normally put on after a bath. I feel like as people who take care of dogs for a living, they should know how to put the harness on. I don't understand how they even put it on without forcing it on. I feel as though they put the bandana on to cover up the harness so I wouldn't notice. THEY COULD HAVE TOLD ME WHILE I WAS THERE WHAT HAPPENED. We could've resolved it there instead of them trying to push the problems out the door. I wouldn't have been upset as I am now. Not even the manager takes accountability for her team. How embarrassing. I get that things happen and humans make mistakes but most humans should be able to take accountability for their mistakes. read more

This review is for the doggy day care. I have brought my dog here about 4 times now. The first time was for the meet and greet and they allowed me to keep my dog there for the rest of the day. After that, they gave me 3 free daycare days to use within the next week. I felt like that was very generous of them, and the consistency of going really helped my dog to adjust since he was very timid the first time coming. They have 3 rooms available which help them separate the big dogs and small dogs. On times where there aren't too many dogs, they big and small dogs are grouped together. I personally liked this because my dog used to be timid around bigger dogs and now he's used to it! I think bringing him to daycare has increased his overall confidence as a pupper so that is a pro! One reason I docked off a star was because they have a nap time from 12pm-2pm for the all day daycare and I was a little skeptical at first as a worried dog mom to not be able to see my dog on camera. I'm not too sure what they do with them or where they put them but right at 2pm, I check up on the webcams and see my dog running around. It's probably fine, but would still give me ease of mind to see my pupper sleeping. Another con is that it can get pretty crowded sometimes. I see sometimes about 20 dogs, which can be a lot of dogs for one person to oversee. Overall, the staff seems very kind and they get excited when my dogs comes. I feel like I'm leaving him in good hands when I drop him off. The prices are fair, but pretty steep. If you are looking for cheaper daycare, there are some people on Rover who are around $25/30 a day. read more

We tried this place out since the previous dog camp we used permanently closed down due to COVID. Dogtopia is not our answer so we'll keep searching. We have a "mature" Frenchie so he's not super playful and really just enjoys to hang out. We say he's at the mental stimulation phase of life. I'm a helicopter mom so the cameras are great... until they aren't. Dogtopia has a 'nap' time and cameras are shut off from about 11:30am to 2:15pm. I assume he's fine during that time. My issue is the second time we has there, he was put in the crate again at 3:15. No-one was checking on him but I could see in the camera that he was in a crate (while all other dogs were out) and would put his paw up every few minutes to remind the employee that he was there! I called at 3:45 asking why he was still closed in the crate and was told he got sick and they were giving him a break. If he got sick, why was no-one checking on him? As soon as I called, he was let out and suddenly feeling better apparently. Two days later, he was in a crate again at 3:00 in a room with no-one watching for almost an hour. A few other dogs were in crates as well. This just didn't work for me. The staff was nice enough (Nathan was great and deserves some recognition!) but it wasn't a fit for us. If I'm paying $40/day, I except our docile dog to not be in a kennel 50% of the time and definitely to be watched if he got sick! read more

Wizard, our Pomeranian puppy, absolutely ADORES dogtopia! When we first got him he was terrified of everything that moved, even inanimate objects, and just hid in a corner. Now he sniffs other dogs and follows around the awesome humans who work there, who he adores! Groomer is great too, we get him the bath package and he always comes back soft and clean. This review is long overdue. We have been taking our dog Finn to Dogtopia for daycare for almost a year now. The staff is very welcoming and friendly and you can tell they are very passionate about taking care of your pup. They strive to make everything convenient for you, from hours of operation (the normal hours, before stay-at-home orders), drop-off, pick up, payments and everything in between. Even the location is excellent since I work right down the street. But most importantly, Finn LOVES spending the day here! As soon as I turn on Eastgate he starts going crazy cause he knows where we're heading! He always comes home happy and exhausted, and we love being able to watch him play all day on the webcam. Today we used their grooming services for the first time and I really regret not trying it sooner. The groomer Mika did an incredible job! She had never groomed Finn before and I was only able to describe what I wanted done over the phone instead of in person, and she really hit it out of the park! He is a doodle so I know there's a lot of personal preference for how they look, but this is the first time I haven't wanted to change anything at all about his haircut. She was so detailed she even wrote a little report about things she noticed on him - where he was matted, where she found some bumps, etc. I really appreciate that she took the time to be thorough and tell me everything, since many groomers don't share much at all. I'm so happy we now have a one-stop-shop for daycare and grooming! One more special thing to note about Dogtopia: they are extremely thoughtful! I was pregnant last year and the staff was kind enough to all sign a congratulations card with nice little messages about how Finn was going to be such a good big brother. It surprised me that they took the time to do something special and I'll never forget how they went the extra mile just to be kind. So I recently adopted my new bulldog, Bronn, and I wanted him to maintain his social skills but I wasn't quite ready to take him to the dog park yet so I checked Dogtopia out. It was perfect for me because I live and work in La Jolla/UTC area so it was only 4 minutes away! So convenient! Our first day they did a temperament test to check if he gets along with other dogs. This is nice cause then you know all the other dogs their are well-tempered. We've been going for about a month now, once a week and the staff is amazing! They're so nice and make an effort to know all the names of the dogs. I also enjoy watching the webcam at work and seeing the doggies play. They usually have 1-2 staff members with the dogs mediating their play, making sure no one gets overexcited or hurt. I've also booked a self-serve bath after a day at daycare which is great so I don't have to go to an additional place. Also Bronn is tired after a long day playing so he's less fussy. They provide the shampoo and conditioner, and you can use the hair dryer. The tub and facilities are clean and nice! They even gave us a cute bandana! Their prices are on the slightly lower side from what I've seen researching other places. I fully trust Dogtopia with my pup!! read more

I visit family in San Diego once or twice a year and Dogtopia - Miramar is my go to. I love how they separate dogs based off of size/temperament so you know you're dog is playing with dogs they'll get along with. They've got webcams where you can watch your dog playing throughout their stay. The staff is always super friendly and seem very well trained. I once saw a dog fight while watching the webcam and the girl in the enclosure was super swift (and brave I might add) at breaking up the fight and isolating the aggressive dog. I was such a proud mom seeing my dog on the webcam watching the commotion curiously but luckily not participating. When I went to pick up my dog, I actually heard the staff explaining to the aggressive dog's owner the situation. They were super professional and it was clear that they genuinely tried to reintegrate the dog into the group. It really shows they won't ban your dog from their facility after once isolated incident. read more

But I feel compelled to do so as my dog Riley continues his 3+ year with this business. ISSUE #1: Let's start from the beginning....I am very honest about my dogs abilities. We don't crate him at home because of his anxiety. I made that very clear on my meet & greet. The woman was very understanding and let me know that the only mandatory crating was from 12-2pm so I could start by only bringing him for half days. I thought this was a great solution. I asked if there was a way to eventually work into him being comfortable crating in their facility. She suggested that every time we drop him off, they could crate him for 4-5 minutes at a time so he would get used to the idea. I also thought this was a great idea. Unfortunately this plan was not executed as discussed and I will outline what was executed below. ISSUE #2: After our meet and greet I purchased a 3 for 1 package. Due to the information provided, my understanding was that all packages (with the exception of the month specified packages) were unlimited. This was not the case. Oh well, they extended it for us. And I wasn't upset that the young woman didn't tell us. People make mistakes, no big deal. ISSUE #8658: BUT, here's where things took a turn...We drop our dog off for day 2 the following week. When I come to pick him up, he has a huge gash on his head (blood and large bump clearly visible). Not one employee mentioned it to me at pick up, I had to ask and no one could articulate how it happened. Concerning, but again I understand that he's a dog and things happen. I bring him back a following week for his 3rd visit (reluctantly). I return back to pick him up...again there is HUGE gash on his head. Again, no one was able to articulate what happened or even notified he had the injury (very noticeable injury, it's currently still healing weeks later). I probably would have been arrested had I addressed the second head injury it in person so I went home and decided to sleep on it. When I called to discuss the incidents, the woman was an absolute terror. Extremely rude and sassy. She mentioned that it was his fault because he was banging his head against the crate. 1. Why wasn't this articulated to be the first two incidents? 2. They informed me they were leaving him in the crate for 15 minutes at a time for play breaks. I did not agree to 15 minute stints in the crate nor was I informed of play breaks. My dog can play for hours, without any issues with other dogs. Which has been proven with countless visits to the dog park and his extensive time at another dog day care (with ZERO issues at the other day care). 3. If he was physically harming himself in the crate WHY WOULDNT THEY STOP HIM FROM HURTING HIMSELF? I drop my dog off to enjoy some play and socialize with other pups, not be injured or clearly not watched. 0 stars awarded to this horrible establishment. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. The staff are so kind, friendly and professional. You can tell they know dogs' behaviors expertly, and care for the dogs in their care like they were their own. It brightens my day to get a picture of my dog having fun with his friends while I'm at work. And its fun to check in on the live cam to see him playing from time to time. My dog is a covid puppy who has bad separation anxiety, I didn't think he'd ever get used to any experience where I have to leave him, but he got used to it so fast thanks to the caring staff. Now he actually gets excited to go. Getting to see regular dog friends and staff really helped his transition to a new city far from the rest of our family. He really needed to have some familiar faces in our new location. It's a bonus that I get to take him home at the end of the day tired because he spent the whole-time having fun. Not to mention this place is affordable (thank god) and so easily to make reservations online. I'll never take him anywhere else; we LOVE this place. read more

Came in for a meet and greet which on their website says it takes 30-45 minutes but the girl only took him in for not even 5 minutes and brought him back out saying he was too "stiff" and so he "wouldn't be a good fit", didn't know dogs had to be "loose" to be considered? What does that even mean. My dog always freezes up when he first meets a dog but after a couple minutes he always becomes best friends with them. She didn't even give him a chance, not to mention I used to take him here all the time before and him being "stiff" was never an issue. Just ridiculous. Not to mention I was about to be a $200/week paying customer. My card on file better not be charged for this bs. read more

It's good that the employees care about the dogs and treat them as one of their own. There have been days I just bring him here just so he can get some energy out and get to socialize with other dogs as much as possible. I've recommended this place to anyone I know that needs doggy daycare because they've been so good overall! They also have a live feed that you can watch to see which room your dog is in and how they are doing. If you ever need to let your pup blow off some steam for a whole day definitely take them here, I've never run into issues brining Capri here whatsoever. When my husband and I added our VERY social 3 month old German Shorthaired Pointer Finley to our family, it became very clear--very fast--that she not only loved being around other dogs, she NEEDED to be around them. Pair that with the fact that she has A LOT of puppy energy and we knew we needed a solution that would wear her out, give her time with friends, and keep her happy while we were at work. Research and great reviews proved that day care was the answer. We've been taking her to Dogtopia a couple of days a week for almost a month now and she LOVES it. She starts barking as we round the corner and practically pulled my arm out leading me through the front door this morning. I love that I can watch her on the webcam while I'm working (we call it "Finley TV" at the office), but I'm most impressed with how incredibly patient the team there is with my, sometimes, "overly enthusiastic" puppy. She comes home exhausted and happy, which saves us from chewed-up shoes, clothing and woodwork. (Ok - she *sometimes* still gets into things, but not nearly as much as she would if she didn't have time with her friends.) I also love that she can get a bath every couple of weeks before I pick her up so that we can save ourselves from a wrestling match in our very small bathroom. This experience is a game changer and I love that my little wigglebutt has a safe place to be loved on when we're not around. As the business expanded and more dogs came, my dog was humped a couple of times, while the 2 female employees in the room were busy with their backs turned away from all the animals in the room. My dog is sensitive to loud noise and large crowds. At a later date he was again humped a couple of times. An innocent dog walked by and my dog bite him. They dismissed him. He has been home with me since. He is so much more relaxed and happy. This business isn't best for sensitive dogs or ones who don't like crowds. In the beginning the young employees were terrific. As more dogs were there, there were new personnel by the time I left. Not as well trained as the originals. I loved him being there when it rained. Boarding for longer periods, always inside with no outside, I did wonder if that is the healthiest situation for dogs. read more

REVIEW FOR DAYCARE/OVERNIGHT BOARDING: Recently brought my dog in for boarding and he came back with an alarming cut/rash on his nose. Apparently he was too anxious in the crates that they leave them in overnight and was trying to get out. It's surprising because my dog is usually very comfortable in crates. Also just by watching their webcam, they scold dogs by pulling their collars and putting them in crates. As most dog owners know, punishing them by putting in crates (which are supposed to be safe havens for them) gets them in a different mindset so putting them in crates to sleep in overnight will most likely make them believe they are being punished overnight. I am a first time doggy daycare user. My pup pup has been taking classes in the second floor of the facility with Spot on Training (excellent classes, Andrea is a skilled, kind and innovative instructor), The facility was always odor free and spotless, the Dogtopia staff so friendly as I passed through the lobby, and the dogs arriving for daycare seemed to a one pretty danged excited to get back to their room for a day of fun. I scheduled a meet and greet, and my Osric passed with flying colors so stayed for the day. Again, the kindness of the staff was evident. I did not cry when I left my child at preschool, but cried when I saw Osric on the webcam. Pitiful of me. The manager was supportive and acted as if my weepy face was normal. On pick up I received a report card, a photo and a pamphlet. And a tired happy puppy. Most telling was the next week when we arrived for class, Osric tried to pull me in the direction of the Lounge rather than to the staircase. Ready for another day at doggy day care. Dis my favorite place! I get to spend my days with all my friends- being a big dog sometimes people are afraid of me, even tho I am the sweetest, so it's hard to go to parks but this place is pawsome! They know me and give my mom feedback on my behavior at the end of every visit. My mom says this is affordable and tells me I am a good boy after I leave school every time. They also give my mom access to live video so she can see me during the day when I play with my friends. I hope all puppies in San Diego join me at school soon! read more
