There are a couple of very bad reviews here. Do not believe them for a minute. Those people have some kind of axe to grind. We've been coming to this area from Brooklyn, NY every summer for over 30 years. When we head about Dogwood, we were sure their bagels were bogus, and we were wrong. The bagels are every bit as good as NYC's best. The Kalamata olive loaf is my favorite bread there. My husband's fave is the jalapeno cheddar. We both like the baguette. Bread is baked fresh every morning. The scones are to die for, especially the lemon ginger. We've had lunch there a few times, and the sandwiches have always been very good, but none stand out for me. The service is excellent, the dining room is open and full of light, and the bathroom is clean and all gender. This place is an absolute gem, and we are big food snobs, so believe me. read more

We came here after heading west from the ferry. It was about 330 so no pizza left. So my partner ordered the turkey sandwich and I got the cranberry-almond scone and an iced mocha coffee. Delicious and as perfect as they could be! The sandwich came with a simple lettuce-red-cabbage-cucumber side with pleasant a vinaigrette dressing. Everything was super-fresh. This bakery is legitimately good. The place is artsy and welcoming with outside and inside seating areas. The door is on the side! Delicious breakfast sandwiches - ham, egg, and cheese on a toasted bagel. Delicious iced coffee. Delicious sourdough bread. Delicious cinnamon buns. That's all I ate but I'm sure everything else is just as delicious, especially the pizza, which I'm disappointed we missed out on during our week stay. The location is in a small, quiet town by the river and both the inside and outside decor are beautiful and cozy. My partner and I made a special trip to Wadhams to have lunch at Dogwood Bread Company today and what a disappointment! We ordered two BLT sandwiches: the bacon on each was fatty bacon bits, a little bit of greens, and NO TOMATOE! The sandwiches were served with a small scoop of coleslaw on each plate for a price of $10 per sandwich. We also had the cinnamon buns and these were tasty. If we ever return, it'll likely be for the buns, not the sandwiches. On our return to Plattsburgh we stopped off at Jersey Mike's at Consumer Square for a sub because we were hungry after such a poor lunch at Dodwood and the Italien sub was excellent for a lot less money. An ideal stop for those headed to/from I-87 or on their way to/from the Essex-Charlotte ferry. My wife, infant son, and I stopped here at the end of our Vermont vacation and were sufficiently intrigued by the menu choices to purchase a sourdough loaf and order lunch. Well, I haven't opened the loaf yet but I can attest to the extreme deliciousness of the sandwich I ordered. Toasted cheese with spinach, bacon and balsamic reduction may seem a bit on the decadent side, esp. for those trying to cut back on the calories, but man, is this one tasty sandwich. Unfortunately it was a little early for lunch, so we drove a couple hours before we found a suitable rest area to sit and eat -- by which time the sandwiches were no longer warm. But they were still amazing. Dogwood also serves as a mini-grocery for various organic goods. This place is as good as it gets out in Westport, NY! I don't think I've had a chocolate chip cookie as good as the ones here at Dogwood. I remember coming here all the time in the summer of 2009 just for those cookies. Worth every crumb. Their pizza is also pretty bomb on pizza nights - thin crust with the best toppings. They have picnic tables outside for dining which made for a lovely evening with friends. I'm pretty sure I was introduced to the world of Margherita pizza here at Dogwood. Convenient lunch spot for those taking the ferry. We stopped here on the way from the ferry to 87 S. It was the perfect location to get good food before our only options were fast food at rest stops. The lunch options are not extensive, but include sandwiches, salads, and soups. There were only 5 sandwich options. These might change regularly, as there were blackboards but no printed menu. I was pleasantly surprised to get a nice side salad with my sandwich, but wasn't blown away by my mozzarella, basil, and sun dried tomato sandwich. The ham, cheddar, and spicy mustard, as well as the grilled cheese with ham and tomato got higher marks, and the chocolate chip cookies were delicious! Nothing I have ever had at Dogwood is notable, and some of the things I have had there were terrible. Coffee cake was stale and had nothing going for it anyway. Sourdough was stale and burned on the bottom. For whatever reason, it's achieved some kind of foodie credibility, but in my opinion it has no business being well regarded, let alone highly regarded. Dogwood has great potential to be an excellent restaurant and store in the area. However, the ownership of Dogwood appears more interested in what they like and prefer, rather than customers. Also, Dogwood has unpredictable hours of business, unfriendly service and very limited options. It seems that Dogwood's owners feel they take advantage of customers in the region because there are not many options. Well, I have given up on Dogwood as have several of my friends. Have bought bread here a couple of times and it is very good. Last time we bought what looked like a coffee cake loaf. It was ok, but not up the standards of the breads. Our favorite thing here though is the Friday night pizza. Pizza's are done in a wood oven and have some funky topping combo's in addition to a solid pepperoni pizza. Other wood fired pizza establishments have got nothing on the Dogwood, the pizza is top notch. They have a couple of decent beers on tap and we are hoping they swap out the current brews at some point to try something else. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. If you need plates and utensils, you just grab them yourself. Same with clean-up, just put the dishes and stuff on the shelf as you leave. Relaxed atmosphere with a pretty diverse crowd. Seating is inside and out. No reason to stop going, we are becoming regulars. read more

Great wood oven baked bread and pizza. Worth planning your week's meals to coincide with the nights they serve (July Aug Wed and Fri only) pizza. Love the bold flavors on the pizza and crisp burnt edges are delicious. I always buy 8-10 loaves of baguettes for big meals (with and without seeds) and the crispy crust and soft inside reminds of the best brochen I've had in EU--I have run out of bread three years in row it is so popular. I dream about this pizza during the winter back home bc it's that good. -jalapeño cheese bread is delish! All the bread is great but that's my personal favorite. -the farm stand outside is nice to get some yummy fresh produce on your way in or out! I saw this tiny little bakery in the heart of Wadhams and I thought to myself, "Yeah, I'll grab a bite." To my dismay, when I walked in they were engaging in ancient rituals to bring back the dark Lord Satan. I asked what was going on and the owner informed me that every other Tuesday there is a devil worshipers of the North Country meeting where they praise their God. Great spot for vegans/vegetarians, I love bread and after trying many different bakeries in Vermont, and Upstate N.Y I have come to the conclusion that Dogwood Bread Company has the best naturally leavened breads including sesame, cranberry almond, and a sourdough that will make you pucker your lips. They also carry a great deal of vegan/vegetarian specialty items that no other store in the area would think of carrying. Including meat substitutes, nutritional yeast, sushi supplies, etc.. You can also find seasonal locally grown vegetables hanging around if the time is right. The enviroment reminds me of when I used to work in a health food store in Vermont.
