I cannot say enough good things about Dogwood Pet Lodge. The staff there has certainly made me feel good about leaving my dog Ledo there if my wife and I are headed out of town or need a day to ourselves. Our first encounter was for a quick tour and a day session where Ledo got a chance to try out the facility. Dogwood sits on the outskirts of Baltimore City and has so much space that he comes home exhausted whenever I pick up Ledo. Since that first time, we had boarded him twice, and each time, we could not be any happier than to see Ledo so happy. The Lodge offers grooming services; in fact, if your pet stays for a certain period of time, they will get a bath. Anytime we send Ledo there, I make sure that he gets a bath and a nail trimming because yes, my dog does deserve to get pampered as much as his owner. The staff is completely professional from when I drop Ledo off to the time I pick him up. When I took the tour, I was told that there is somebody on the premises 24 hours/day as there is somebody that lives on the premises. My take, if you live in the Baltimore area, this is the place to go if your pooch needs a getaway. read more

I took my puppy (he was about 11 months old at the time in 2021) to this location based on the reviews and speaking to dog parents at the on-site location. They all informed me that they love this place and so do their dogs. One lady I spoke to said her dog had been going there for 4 years. I dipped my pup off on a Saturday for a doggy day camp to see how he did and he seemed to love it. I dropped him off at 7am and picked him up at 6pm. It was his first time at a boarding location. I did tour with the owner who was at the time pregnant and it was clean. You could smell the chemicals lightly that made it known they do clean up often and sterilize. It wasn't an overwhelming smell but you could smell that it was cleaned. The dogs are boarded in nice sized crates based on the size of the dog. So larger breeds aren't in the same area as smaller breeds. The smaller and larger breeds are also not outside together in the same play area. I loved that. I was nervous my Australian Cobberdog who was only 28 pounds at the time would be outside playing with a larger dog but the owner and her team assured me that never happens. Needless to say, my dog had a great time. Every time we pass the lodge; my dog barks and watches out the window as we pass by. I would recommend this place. read more

I was concerned about leaving my 16 1/2 yr old mixed lab/border collie in a kennel for a week. However, I was very pleased with the care and kindness shown towards my dog. They had specific skills and procedures to keep her safe. They monitored her intake and made adjustments as needed to assure she was eating enough. I sent dry and wet food to be mixed, but they had to stop the dry food and only give her the wet food. If you love your dog and want them to receive the best care while you are away. This is the place to leave them. You will not regret it. Your dog will return home happy and healthy. read more

I used to love this place but the last time we left our little dog there for a longer stay (5 days) he came back stinking if urine, burns on his paws, and was skin and bone thin. There were new people there when I dropped off and picked up. It generally was not the same experience. I'm reluctant to take him back. He was terrified and cry's anytime we drive near the place. A colleague suggested this doggy daycare, but my sign-up experience was off-putting. The lady with kinda short brown hair at the front desk was really rude and seemed disinterested. She didn't seem to know how to answer my questions. The actual care for my pup was okay, but based on the service, I'm hesitant to recommend them. read more

I take my two little dogs here a lot and they both enjoy it. They haven't come home sick at all. The staff is welcoming and friendly. The staff knows my dogs by name and have adjusting their caretaking style based on their personalities. I feel at ease knowing they are in good hands when I'm away. They even have the patience to bathe, cut their nails, and trim my older ones hair. One dog is extra wiggly and the other doesn't like anyone touching him. read more

This was my first time taking my dog to a kennel and this left a bad taste in my mouth to see this. I will not go to this place again and will take my chances elsewhere. I didn't notice this until 2pm and picked her up at 8am so I feel the fault is on me.They washed the dog bed and I thought it was just a kind gesture but didn't know until I called about what is shown in this picture for them to tell me she peed in her bed, which she never does. Our experience with this pet lodge has been mixed, ending with a very bad experience. Dogwood was our boarder for a few years without problem, so let me state at first that our dog has loved this place and we were happy for a long time without incident. Then our dog came home from a stay there with kennel cough. The vet seemed exasperated and said they had had this problem with them before. The last problem we had was after a one-day stay with them, he came home limping and cowering in a corner, just not his happy self at all. I called the place very upset and emotional (my husband blames me for this, by the way) and said I needed to hear from the owner about what happened. We got a frantic call back from them, and I had my husband talk to the owner. After 24 hours had passed, he seemed to go back to normal. I can't say what happened there, I can only say it was really weird and has never happened, before or since. My husband convinced me to give them one more try. I called and had a discussion with a very nasty worker there who said "that dog" has to be seen by a vet before they would allow him back, as obviously something is very wrong with him. It was very childish, but frankly from another review site I looked at, which had the owner's response to someone else's complaint, I think this place is fine as long as all is smooth; when something goes wrong and somebody complains, it's blamed on the customer and you're treated very nastily. Not good. I admit I was very emotional, but our dogs are like our kids -- if my kid comes home limping and cowering after one night with you, you are going to get an upset phone call. read more

My dog Maximus has been going here consistently for 3 years. He absolutely loves it here. I sometimes board him and regularly bring him here for daycare so that he can run and play. I also use their grooming services for his baths and nails. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I also like that they go out of their way to be of assistance to their customers. They have been open during this COVID-19 pandemic, which is very helpful. Our fir babies need their exercise too. I've heard that a stressed animal is one that is easily to become diseased! My sociable, sassy, and speedy whippet, Jayda LOVES Dogwood Pet Lodge. She practically lets herself in when she arrives, greets the handlers happily, plays chase all day, and takes a long nap when she comes home. I love that it's halfway between home and work, the scenic drive, the rates, the amount of playtime she gets, and their ability to accommodate her for both daycare and boarding as needed. Other places I checked into had higher rates and less playtime. Here, Jayda gets a good 2 hour morning play session, a rest period, and a good 2 hour afternoon play session. Jodie, the owner, is very responsive via email. The handlers are very kind. If you call, you most likely will receive the answering machine, but staff are very responsive about calling back. The only drawback I have is that I'd like to see more pictures of Dogwood's dogs on their facebook page when I need a break in my day! ;-) read more

My positive review of this place has everything to do with the staff they have at Dogwood. The girls who work there really care about all the dogs, and have the sweetest relationships with them. They always greet my pup by name with a smile and a rub. My dog really loves them- she gets almost as excited to see them as she is to see me! You can tell they take the time to assess each dog's personality and needs, and cater their playtime/playmates accordingly. For example, my dog is deaf, and at first they were very careful with her to make sure she'd be safe. Once they realized she's o.k., they matched her with other dogs at her energy level, and she always has a great time. Once, I was stuck at work and couldn't pick her up on time- I had to board her at the last minute. I was so anxious about leaving her overnight, but they assured me they would take good care of my girl. And of course, they did. When I picked my pup up the next day, she was her usual happy self- as she always is when I pick her up at dogwood! I feel safe leaving her because I can tell that the staff at dogwood love her like I do- and will always take good care of her. read more
