We had dinner here for our 25th anniversary on the way to the Lenovo Center for a Hurricane's game. The restaurant was freezing, so we sat outside. The service was excellent, made even better by the fact that she was so excited we were going to a hockey game. The food was fantastic, perfectly prepared and came quickly. I had the Irish Philly, my wife got the ghost cheese salad (hilarious because she picked the place because she wanted fish n chips). We both really enjoyed the meal. This is my favorite place for fish and chips, although I get the green beans instead of the potatoes. The service was super good and my food came out quickly. The green beans were not very warm but still good. The brussel sprouts were not warm at all and so disappointing. The fish was excellent! The tables were clean and cleared quickly, which is always a good thing. The time of day I went , early evening, was busy but not crowded. The noise level was pleasant, not too loud at that time. We stopped by this Irish pub on the weekend of the USA vs. Spain rugby game, expecting a fun atmosphere and a good crowd, but unfortunately it was surprisingly quiet and felt pretty empty for such a big event. The food was okay -- nothing bad, but also nothing that really stood out or made us want to come back specifically for the menu. The service wasn't terrible, and the place itself was clean, so there were definitely some positives. Overall, it just felt like the energy was missing. With a better crowd, more atmosphere, and maybe some improvements to the food, this could be a great spot, especially during big sporting events. Five of us came to watch a World Cup game at 6. We were lucky enough get 5 seats together at the bar (no tables with a view of a tv were available, they were either occupied or reserved). We got a variety of appetizers and a few drinks. Our favorite apps were: Dublin Spice Bag and Spinach Artichoke Dip. We tried the Boxty Sampler and liked the Killarney and Donegal best (the Mullingar was sort of just brisket in the potato pancake). We also got the Loaded Veggie Chips (seasonal item) but they were lacking in flavor a bit and could've benefited from more salt, if nothing else, but they did look really nice with the glaze over the top. read more

After back and forth discussions with the servers and the kitchen, I was able to eat one thing on the menu despite the menu having "gluten friendly" options. I stopped by Doherty's for their St. Patrick's Day event, which has become a tradition because honestly what else are you going to do on St patty's day. They blocked off part of the parking lot, had live music going, and the whole place had that fun, lively energy you want on a holiday like this. Because of the crowd, the menu was trimmed down to the more popular items, but it still had plenty of good options. I ended up getting their Irish eggrolls, they're hand‑rolled and stuffed with house‑cured corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese, then sliced and served with their Thousand Island dressing. Basically, it's all the flavors of a Reuben wrapped up in a crispy shell, simple, rich, and exactly the kind of thing that works well at an event like this because its quick and its finger food you can eat while watching the band,. Overall, the atmosphere was great, parking is such a hassle though during these events on the weekend because H-Mart nearby is already so packed. We ordered the Reuben, a Dublin Spice Bag appetizer, and the county cork cheesesteak. The Dublin spice bag was served in a to go box and looked like someone's leftovers. For $16 one would expect the appetizer to come on a large platter. It was lacking in size and quality. The flavors were ultra sweet. And it seemed like something thrown together at the last minute. None of the ingredients were cohesive. The flavors were very odd. The Reuben was small, had very little corned beef and was incredibly heavy on the sauerkraut. It tasted like a large sour pickle. The cheesesteak was small - not even 4 inches long. When it arrived, I wondered where the other half was. The french fries were small and seemed chopped up rather than a large regular fry. All in all the food was extremely mediocre and the prices were high. I will never come back again. read more

Feb 2026 I was craving a burger and didn't have any ideas where to go....then thought this local pub might be good and hopefully not too busy between parking and awaiting food as I was famished! I was greeted, then seated. I was provided a menu and specials...Prime Rib! After my hectic day, yes I will have that! I mentioned gluten free to my server before making decision. Plus seeing the loaded potato had me a bit worried as I cannot ear pork. I opted for salad once server checked to see if Caesar salad dressing is gf sans croutons. I requested salad with dressing on the side and to bring promptly before my dinner. Salad arrived by and server dressed and it was glistening.... I requested one with dressing on the side...server brought maybe I had two bites and dinner arrived! Salad can wait...prime rib cannot, even though I start with tasting potato. Prime rib was requested mid rare and it delivered. Potato was fine. I did not see the au jus nor horseradish sauce on the side. I did ask server while I was ready to pack it up and he said there was some confusion if there was/was not no gluten so not provided. Noteworthy as the salad a manager stopped by about the dressing and mentioned one type of salad dressing is now gf and one vegan. Good to have options. Disappointed to learn the fries are coated with flour then fried as an option with burger skip the bun...what about baked chips or air fry for those with food sensitivities as an alternative? Just a thought for management to consider please. I saved room for dessert and the mousse did not disappoint and was compted .... thank you! Fantastic! As I looked around there was a steady crowd entering along with regular patrons. Overall 4.5 stars for this visit. On a side note, this is a family friendly restauran/pub. Some servers look disheveled between sloppy hair and untidy uniform. For staff with long hair should be pulled back tight and away from food will prevent hair on the food! Uniform is simple black top and pants....should be clean and neat. A few servers looked like they rolled out of bed...if they are feeling ill, please stay home. Servers should make diners and patrons have a positive and pleasant experience and my server was definitely on point with emphasis on customer service and satisfaction....keep it up! Absolutely love coming here when I'm in town. It's a must just for their fish and chips!! The fish is super flaky with a delicious crispy batter that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. Traveling through Cary, we were hungry and looking for a place that was open late. Using our trusty Yelp app, we discovered this pub! We arrived around 9 pm on New Year's Eve eve (haha) and were a little concerned at first because we didn't see a host or a waiter for several minutes. A little on the sweet side, but paired with the flavorful gravy, it was a great app. The Boxties were delicious! Basically Irish tacos. I really liked all 3 of them but I think the flavor of the Donegal stood out the most. You can't go wrong with any of them. It's a pretty laid-back looking bar in a nice shopping center. I'm new to NC, so I went in to check this place out & have some dinner. I sat at the bar. It was early so there were only a few people in the whole place. I started with a Guinness. It was a perfect pour. I then decided on the goat cheese salad and pretzel bites. The salad was really good. Pretzel bites were good but a tad too salty. Didn't care for the sauce that came with them...it had a strong curry taste. I still ate a few and brought the rest home. I then finished with a nutty Irishman coffee which was excellent. All of that came to about $55. My only knock against this place was that the bartenders were not very engaging. They mostly just talked to each other and the wait staff. Again, there were only a few people in the whole place when I got there. Not a huge deal but most places in the area I find to be super friendly and welcoming. We decided to sit outside, and service was generally good. I ended up ordering the shepherd's pie, and it was pretty tasty! My wife thought her meat loaf wasn't bad, but the sauce was a little strange. Beer selection was OK - I got a flight for $6.75 (3 beers, 6 oz each, so not a bad deal!). This place has been around since I was a kid and there's a reason why it's still here as an adult. As Cary's local Irish pub, Doherty's serves up the Irish classics in a very family friendly environment. The food here is very good, while maintaining a toned down bar setting. It can get a bit rowdy, but the dining room is set up where the noise is controlled so that any sort of customer can have their desired experience. I'll come to Doherty's whenever I want a good plate of fish and chips. They seriously do this dish justice here. The fish is always super fresh, battered to perfection, and flakey. Eating it by itself does the trick, and adding the tartar sauce or malt vinegar only makes it better. It's served with french fries and green beans. The fries are typically pretty good, seasoned and crispy. I love the addition of a green on the plate, it makes it feel less heavy. They put a ton of garlic in the green beans, I think it's a good touch. While the fish and chips remains at the top of Doherty's pyramid, there are certainly some decent dishes under it. The Shepard's pie is decent, although at some point it does start to get heavy. Their corned beef dish is alright, they do the corned beef super well. The vegetables that are paired with it are unseasoned and taste like nothing. The boxty's are the go-to vegetarian option and are actually pretty good! It is like an Irish crepe, served with potato croquettes. I think it's a great vegetarian option. I think a great thing about Doherty's is that it's a very communal restaurant that serves many different purposes. They do trivia/bingo nights, they're popular during sporting events and their brunch is super popular. No matter the time of day or year, Doherty's will have something going and is truly here to serve the local area. Hoping they can stay around as I continue to get older! read more

As a Brit living in the States for 36 years, in 6 different states, and in many states of mind, I have always been in search of the best of any and everything that reminds me of home. The most important in my search's have always been in the way of culinary satisfactions and always in the way of the Fish and Chips. Well today I ate the best fish and chips I've had to date. Right here in my new home of Cary at Doherty's Irish Pub and restaurant. The mood in the pub made me feel as welcome as I could have felt if I were in any pub that would be so brave as to call itself an Irish Pub. I can't drink any longer since I've already had my share over time so the choice of an NA Guinness always wets me whistle in the best way, while my wife had a Harp, because , well it stays sharp to the bottom of the glass. The Toffee pudding was the icing on the cake to a remakable meal, and when the music of The Dubliners and the Pogues singing Irish rover came on overhead, I focking well teared up I did. I will be back for sure. And I cannot wait. I need to taste everything they have on the menu, but I don't think I'll ever get past having fish n chips with the delish Haricot verts on the side. My husband and I met a large group of friends for lunch here today and we will definitely be back! The staff members were happy to push tables together to accommodate our group of 10. Everyone was super nice. Most of our group ordered the build your own Bloody Mary's. Amazing!! They bring you a glass with your preferred vodka and your preferred rim and they you add whatever you like from the Bloody Mary bar. What a great addition to the pub! The brunch menu was amazing! They offer a traditional Irish breakfast along with many other great items. I really enjoyed the Doherty's omelet with cabbage, carrots, and corned beef topped with breakfast gravy. So delicious !
