Dokyo has become one of my go-to sushi spots in Corpus. The vibe is always on point with a great atmosphere whether you're grabbing dinner with friends or going on a nice date night. The service is always on point and helpful for recommendations across their wide selection. Their traditional nigiri is consistently solid and the fish quality stands out. I've tried quite a few rolls over time, and the Amigos Forever roll is easily one of my favorites. If you're into fried rolls, Dokyo has one of the best selections in town. The bulgogi is another dish I keep coming back for, super flavorful and always hits. Also worth mentioning: their cold-water oysters. They have a noticeably different flavor compared to most oysters around Corpus, which makes them a cool addition to the menu. Great food, great vibe, and plenty of variety. Seems like a good idea to make a reservation. We got lucky with a seat right away,but heard the wait time going up to 45 min.To me it seemed like a tight fit with seating. I thought the anime movies playing were a nice touch. We started with the calamari, but didn't eat it because it was overcooked there was no different in texture from the squid to the coating.The two specialty rolls were very good.Other things that stood out to me were the oysters and cocktails but we did not try either. read more

What a fantastic place! The vibe was really cool, and I absolutely loved my waitress--she was sweet and incredibly helpful. For drinks, we tried the lemon drop martini and the amazing paradise cocktail, and both were a hit! The firecracker appetizer was my favorite! I adore Hawaiian cuisine, and it reminded me of poke, which is one of my absolute favorites. I devoured every bite! For my main dish, I ordered the combo fried rice. Considering the reviews, I was both underwhelmed and disappointed. I was excited to try out this restaurant, given that they have items listed as "vegan"' on their website. However, the "vegan fried rice" isn't vegan....it has oyster sauce and egg in it. On DoorDash they have an item listed as "vegan yakisoba" and the noodles are egg noodles....again, not vegan. The tofudo roll wasn't very good and after modifying the rice to make it vegan, it also was underwhelming. Great atmosphere. Sat at the bar and has some excellent recommendations from the bar tender, Skyler. Started with the chef's special calamari oyster. This was by recommendation and has such a wonderful depth of flavor. Then tried the Chicken Shitake Gyoza (forgot to take a pic) which was such a wonderful small plate style teaser. Next enjoyed the sumo bulgogi fries which were out of this world. Finished the night off with another recommendation from Skyler of the house baked oyster. The presentation of the last oyster was fun and the flavor combination gave your palette a sense of good old comfort food without being too much or too rich. I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday and we were utterly disappointed. We ordered 3 drinks, 1 appetizer, 1 entree ( they failed to mention the other one we ordered was still frozen 30 mins later), and 2 rolls and the total came out to $142 ??? The rolls were mediocre and the pork belly was not very good. The server was very nice but that was about it. He told me the spicy bulgogi was actually pork belly but the regular bulgogi is beef ??? I have been coming to Corpus for work weekly since January and I am so disappointed I did not find this place sooner! I have now been back here every week that I'm in town and look forward to it every time. This place is so clean and the staff is friendly every single visit. The Chicken Fried Rice has to be the best fried rice I've had it a very long time. The portion itself is huge for what you pay for. The rice is cooked to perfection and they even put a fresh egg on top. I also recently tried a few of the craft cocktails they have and you will not be disappointed in those either. I have not yet had the sushi but a few co workers did and thought it was great. The only downside for some is that the menu is on a QR code. Myself and my partner visited Dokyo for a Friday night date. The vibes were good, music was loud but not too loud that you couldn't enjoy conversation. The lights were low but colourful. We split spicy edamame, the fresh paradise (daily special), queen mango (daily special), ebi and kani flash roll, California roll, and crab roll. We decided to come here on a whim one night for date night. We didn't know on Friday and Saturday's it was mainly reservations only...? Luckily we were able to get a couple seats at the sushi bar. It would have been nice to have a table, but we weren't complaining. Our waitress was friendly and very helpful! I wanted to try out one of their cocktails and she was able to pinpoint something I'd enjoy. She recommended the Monsoon. It had tequila, orange, lime, sangria, rimmed with black salt and an edible flower. The drink was delicious and strong, and the presentation was beautiful. I ordered a seaweed salad to start, a little disappointing. It was very little seaweed and more cucumbers which was odd to me. We also got complimentary miso soup, nothing too exciting about it. Most places I go to always seem to skimp out on the tofu... the waitress also recommended the gyoza and it was good. Never a bad choice. We ordered a ton of sushi. We were a little taken aback when ordering t the Dokyo Bridge. It feeds two people, a lot of food for sure. When we usually order these meals for two we kind of expect it to be served on a bridge... hence Dokyo Bridge. To our surprise it was just on a simple white square place, we usually enjoy the little details for the experience. It had nigiri, two rolls, and sashimi. On the menu it said it would have spicy tuna, but there was none of that on the plate. The fish was good. My husband also ordered the Kamikaze roll and he enjoyed it. Also got the Masago nigiri, and a couple more pieces of sashimi. The sweet shrimp wasn't good at all. Just my honest opinion. One thing that did annoy us was that our Dokyo "bridge" was sitting right next to me, and we assumed it was ours. It had been sitting for about 10 minutes or so, nobody claimed it until we asked our waitress where it was and the sushi chef pointed at it. He could have simply just given it to us.... It was just sitting there... Our waitress was sweet, she noticed we didn't finish our sushi so she packed it up for us and put extra ginger, wasabi, soy sauce, and chopsticks. This was our 4th time to Dokyo and I was so excited for it. Sadly, it was a terrible experience. Our server was non-existant. Our food did not come out anywhere near the same time so we could not eat together and the food was just not good. We got the amigos roll and the pieces were so huge you had to cut them in half to eat them. The bulgogi came with no rice and hardly any beef. The chicken katsu was inedible. My best friend just had to bring me here while on vacation - the place is conveniently located downtown. The vibe as soon as you walk in is dim lights, good music and smiles all around. Guess who's back in a new city for work!!!! I actually have a friend who lives in town and wanted to catch up over some food and drinks. She suggested Dokyo Dauntaun and since I love me some sushi I was down. It's in the small downtown area and there's not actually a parking lot for the restaurant but there was definitely street parking. We had reservations and I got there a little early and was seated promptly. My table was still dirty and it was cleaned right away. When my friend arrived we started off the spring rolls which were good nothing too write home about. We also had the gyoza fried and kind of tasted like they were frozen. I decided to try the geisha which is one of their popular drinks and definitely worth the hype! The star of the show for me was the yakisoba with chicken. I absolutely love this place! I got there a little before their midday break but they were happy to serve me and everything was quick! I originally picked this spot for lunch for the Geisha cocktail.
