Christian is by far the friendliest server and made me feel so accepted and special. The Drinks were amazing and the spicy edamame is a good serving size. Guess who's back in a new city for work!!!! I actually have a friend who lives in town and wanted to catch up over some food and drinks. She suggested Dokyo Dauntaun and since I love me some sushi I was down. It's in the small downtown area and there's not actually a parking lot for the restaurant but there was definitely street parking. We had reservations and I got there a little early and was seated promptly. My table was still dirty and it was cleaned right away. I started off with a drinky drink of course and being a tequila girl, I went with the Monsoon. Super tasty and it did just the job to help me relax some. When my friend arrived we started off the spring rolls which were good nothing too write home about. We also had the gyoza fried and kind of tasted like they were frozen. I decided to try the geisha which is one of their popular drinks and definitely worth the hype! The star of the show for me was the yakisoba with chicken. Honestly some of the best noodles I've had in awhile. Definitley a great portion size. Overall this place is good for a girls night or a date night. I absolutely love this place! I got there a little before their midday break but they were happy to serve me and everything was quick! I originally picked this spot for lunch for the Geisha cocktail. They weren't sure they could make it since they thought there bubble maker wasn't working but thankfully it was! The drink was delicious and strong, plus it looked super cool. Very nice hosts at the front, not a long wait for our reservation. Not very loud but busy. Great cocktails, and amazing food specials and tasty foods for all people. I'm not sure if there is new management but there has been a tremendous shift in the service and dining experience. Stopped by on a Saturday night while visiting some friends down in Corpus. We were looking for a place to get a nice dinner and they said they had to take us here while we were in town! So, we made a reservation online and headed there that night. When we arrived, unfortunately the host claimed she didn't have our reservation on file for some reason, which was frustrating but we were still able to get a table. We were sat at a half booth-half table right in front of the kitchen doors. Service wasn't great and our server was a little slow. Granted, they were busy but still. We ordered a few cocktails, a beer and a bottle of sake to share. The cocktails were great! We also each ordered a bowl of miso soup and some apps to share. The gyoza were good, but pretty standard. I was surprised that I enjoyed the spring rolls more. The sauce was so good! We ordered a couple of entrees, some sashimi, and a lot of sushi rolls. I didn't love the sashimi and have definitely had better but everything else I thought was good! I love the convenient location, being right downtown and walking distance from a few bars (where we went afterwards) but thought service could be better. We started off with a few appetizers- warm and cold and same with dinner regarding the cooked meat and sashimi. Everything was incredibly flavorful like I could taste individual flavors and every bite I took. I HAVE to be back to try the rest of the menu because WOW. Regarding COVID, they had standing plastic separations between the tables and the staff were masked. Located in downtown Corpus Christi and a stone's throw away from the beach/Gulf, this spacious space gives a posh and trendy club/hangout vibe with a DJ spinning beats, a projector illuminating a high wall with surreal images, and expertly crafted cocktails (including one with a puff of smoke) It is, however, a fantastic restaurant serving some of the most delicious and fresh sushi and calamari I've had the pleasure of enjoying. We walked in and I was very surprised, but in a good way! I was not expecting a hip, happening place when we walked up but it was very nice. There atmosphere was more "hipster" but I wouldn't say it was overwhelming by any means. There were cool drinks on the menu and cool music being played. The food was also very good and fresh. Dokyo also has an extensive menu featuring many noodle dishes, sushi and Korean plates. The inside is pretty loud and not ideal if you are looking for an intimate dining experience. The sushi is decent but definitely not the best I've had. The noodle dishes are delicious. This restaurant takes covid very seriously and has barriers between tables, checks temperatures and enforces social distancing. The restaurant appears to be moving away from the Korean side of their menu. I asked for 4 Korean dishes from the menu, but they told me each time that they didn't have that. I sat at the bar (which is set with plate and chopsticks), but the staff wasn't very informed about the food or even the drinks. It seems like a decent sushi restaurant, but the prices are higher than they need to be, and without good Korean options, they don't stand out. Called in last minute for a reso on a Saturday night. The person I spoke with on the phone was amazing about getting us a table within 20 minutes. We sat at the bar top and the service was amazing! I had the Geisha, which is delicious on its own, but the added molecular gastronomy made it over the top! It's served with a grapefruit infused smoke bubble on top of the glass that adds another layer of aromatics. My bf had the octopus salad and I had the yaki udon. Both were great and super filling. I was a bit skeptical that my bf (who's 6'1 200+) would get full since the octopus salad was smaller in size, but he enjoyed it! My yaki udon was a very good size, which I could've easily split into 2 portions. We also had miso soup. It was good, pretty flavorful. Outrageously good seafood! I had the grilled yellowtail cheek. It was the cheek and the whole collar. It was so much meat! The skin was seared crispy. The combination of the crispy skin and tender white meat dipped in a sweet thin sauce was one of the best seafood dishes I have ever had. And that is saying something. The fish was very fresh. I asked for a wet towel and extra napkins because I had to eat with my hands to get all that goodness. Nice downtown location. Very friendly, helpful staff, and plenty of them. I understand places are short staffed these days. But why not tell customers that even though they're seated, they'll be waiting hours for their food? I'm not exaggerating. We were sat at 6:30. As I wrote this at 9:20 anyone who ordered a non-sushi meal had yet to receive it. Our party received their bar drinks but my husband had to ask 3 people for his Diet Coke. Not sure if the sour mix was bad? But most of the mixed drinks had a gasoline taste. We ordered the mango tango tuna appetizer. The fish was not very fresh. My husbands sushi came out around 8:45. He ordered it with no masago. They simply took it back to the kitchen, did the best they could to scrape it off, then flipped the rolls over. They brought my meal at 9:23. I ordered beef. They gave me chicken. I asked to have it removed from the bill as by this time my stomach went ahead and ate itself so I definitely was not hungry for the wrong meal. Decided to try a different sushi spot and stopped in here. The decor and feel of the place was more on the upscale downtown Austin living style. The food was good. The drinks were fun and colorful. Nice flavors of sauces, however, one of the sushi bar coolers was not working properly. There seemed to be a cooling issue because there was water dripping from the cooling line above. My friend, whose family owns a sushi place in another city, informed a few people and nothing was checked on. It wasn't until she told one of the young bus boys who actually told a hostess and she followed up.
