The two owners are very, very rude to us! We have been at their establishment several times over the past year and they are always nasty!! The servers are lovely and very accommodating. We went to D&S for breakfast one morning and I asked for a poached egg and the owner was very nasty and said "we are not that fancy here." What kind of restaurant are they??? My husband also made the mistake of catering my birthday dinner from them and the food was terrible!!! All they did was cover each dish with loads of cheese including the roasted vegetables . Perfect location on 5th Ave with convenient parking lot in the back. Food is good and servers are nice. In my opinion, some things are too overpriced (a glass of wine is $11) but it's Naples so that's how it is pretty much everywhere in that area. Came with two other people and a toddler for lunch. Two of us had the antipasto charcuterie platter to share, the other had one of the salads, and they made our toddler a plain pasta tossed with some olive oil and parmigiana. Everything was amazing. All of the servers were nice and did not blink when we asked them to make something off menu for the toddler. I also got their spritz, which tasted good but did not look right to me as they put orange juice in it instead of the usual, so it looked more muddy than I'm accustomed to thought it tasted amazing. All of the food was amazing, the charcuterie was great and the toddlers pasta was also amazing. The outdoor seating area is also great. would love to come again. read more

There are so many great restaurants in Naples that it is hard for us to choose one favorite. But if pushed, our choice is Dolce and Salato. It is an entirely authentic piece of Italy just off of 5th Ave. Their cappuccino is the best, and the breakfast menu includes superb croissant and a variety of egg dishes that are excellent. Lunch includes several kinds of lasagne, pasta dishes and interesting salads. My favorite is the beef carpaccio salad. When I first looked at the menu I was worried the prices were a little steep, but the quality of the food and the portions made up for that and then some. We stopped at this 5th Ave place for lunch a few weeks ago. It is in a great location on beautiful 5th Avenue, reminds me almost of a Parisian sidewalk café (though clearly Italian)....great outdoor bistro tables, awesome umbrellas etc. The interior, which we just sort of walked through reminded me of an ice cream shop...while nice and set up almost like a deli/grocery store, you definitely want to eat on the patio....great menu - soups, salads and sandwiches mostly....most of the sandwiches seemed to be baguette style...I had one with prosciutto, olive tapenade and cheese (mozz or provolone? Don't remember)....it was excellent! I don't remember if it came with chips or fries....chips I think, and they were homemade and also very good... Here's what kills me...So for something like 10 bucks (maybe 12) I can get an awesome sandwich on a real baguette - which if it wasn't baked on site, was baked within a few blocks of there that same day...I can get ingredients like prosciutto and olive tapenade etc and have a great setting....BUT prior to going there, I was happy paying the 8 to $10 at a sick like place like Jimmy Johns or whatever...the value of what I received at D&S - the quality of it - makes me feel as though the places I normally go to have been ripping me off for years....while I am wholly of the opinion that "chaining" any restaurant leads to a pronounced plunge in quality, I SOOOO wish there was one of these by me - I would eat lunch there every day!!! read more

Service slow, ordered the Caprese salad and it came dressed in a balsamic glaze (should serve it with balsamic and good olive oil, just like they would in Italy). Was asked how everything was by Owner/ Manager. When I very politely pointed out it was fine but would have preferred real oil and balsamic, on the side, his demeanour immediately changed and he was miserable about it, defensive, face like he was sucking a lemon. This place is one of the few authentic places in Naples. Great Italian Meara, cheeses, fresh pastries. Real Italian coffee and treats. All the salads are super fresh and the portions aren't attempting to feed 5. Organic ingredients and all perfectly fresh and healthy. Their lemon dressing leaves you feeling revived and satisfied. Authentic except for the potato chips with the sandwiches ;). The place is definitely overpriced (prices have gone up from the prices listed on a picture someone posted) BUT the food is good and IT IS 5th avenue. Service is a little slow so definitely not a place to go if you are in a hurry for lunch. I had the prosciutto and mozzarella sandwich for $14.95. It was a large sandwich (I eat a lot and had to bag up one half) the mozzarella was fresh and the prosciutto was DiParma and they did not skimp on it - sandwich also came with a small salad which was very good. Overall, great authentic Italian lunch spot. I will definitely be back to try something else - the salads I saw looked good. read more

I ate here for the first time and was very pleased. I asked a friend where I could find some fresh Italian food and this restaurant/ deli was suggested. I work on 5th and just finished my shift but I knew they were closing soon so I took my sandwich to go. It was a simple sandwich, prosciutto, mozzarella and tomato on a baguette. It was wonderful, all ingredients fresh and full of flavor. You can tell these ingredients are imported from Italy and that's exactly what I was looking for. I'm 8 months pregnant and was really craving this, it completely hit the spot!!! As I was waiting the woman who took my order offered me a glass of water which was very sweet. I'm so glad I tried this place, I will for sure be back for lunch and to purchase some real true deli items. I've been to Italy a few times and it is so difficult to find something like this here in the states. It's a little hole in the wall place set back from the street, and it's just wonderful. 3.5 star. Went in during the mad rush that is Cars on fifth show. Had a daily special: housemade burratta with arugula and prosciutto. The prosciutto was salty and nice. The burratta was so fresh I swear they have a cow somewhere on the property. My BF also purchased a bunch of pastries. That were very nice! Nothing to blow me out of the water tho. Wine, beer and prosecco are offered. And limited choice on those. And fairly expensive. It is a expensive spot. The staff were overwhelmed and i think on a non tourist inundated day they would have an easier time. If you are keen on southern Italian lunch (which I am not) this is a must try spot!
