Best Place Ever Gelato and sorbetto can't be topped. Maybe in NYC or Italy. I have known the owner for a while and he is the nicest person ever. But i visited the store for the first time last week. My thing is Tiramisu cake, I try Tiramisus everywhere I can. So I tried their Tiramisu and I can safely say that theirs is the best by far. Just because it's the easiest on your stomach if you eat it in large quantities)). But it's oh so delicious. Wonderful gelato shop in the heart of downtown Newburyport. Best gelato we've ever had. So many fun as well as classic flavors, in which you can taste the real natural ingredients. I took my baby as well as the little girl that I babysit here. It is a fantastic spot with plenty of parking. We wanted to check this ice cream spot out because it offers dairy free sorbetto. Great place! One of the only places in the Merrimack Valley to even get gelato! They make it right on site and have different flavors every day. And they have seasonal flavors too, pumpkin spice around Halloween, cranberry near Thanksgiving, candy cane and gingerbread for Christmas. All of their ingredients are very fresh, there are practically whole strawberries in the strawberry! My personal favorite is the Nutella, it tastes just like it. They just recently starting opening up in the morning and they have Italian coffee, cappuccino and espresso. And they're open late on Friday and Saturday nights too. The two guys that own the store are really nice and they'll always let you try as many flavors are you want. I think it's about $3.00 for two scoops which I think is a pretty good deal. Stop by sometime, it's right off 495's Pleasant Valley exit on the way to the Loop, right next to Perro's Italian Bakery. It'll be worth your while! read more

Gelato is not something you should bother with if not done well. That said, Dolce Freddo Gelato does gelato exceptionally well. I live locally and have been going for years. Just had a late lunch at Fusion House across the street and realized I haven't had my gelato fix in way too long so away we went. I am in agreement with just about everyone about the great help here. I do want to say that when you become a regular (and you will) Bob will remember you and that's always a nice feeling. I always have to try the new flavors and usually get a 2 scoop so I have to make sure the flavors won't be disagreeable when combined. They always let you try the new flavors which is a huge plus. The pistachio is one of my fave's and I was pretty sure I was going to get it but then I tried the eggnog (yummmm) and the Almond (with huge pieces of hazelnut in it) and decided those would get along well. Among my other top picks would be mascarpone (trust me), bacio, black raspberry and pumpkin. I find the chocolate a bit too sweet but that doesn't limit my choices. The cappuccino hits the spot on a cold night. The froth will last til the bottom of the cup. read more

An unexpected treat in Methuen: good gelato...and the people are great. The guy who works the weekend late nights is so friendly and accomodating. You wanna taste ? You get a taste. You like ? No ? Try annudder flayvah. The decor is bright and cheery, very nicely done. You can sit outside if you want. You can get an espresso too. And: it's open in the WINTER until 9pm. Went here for the first time today after reading such great reviews. Totally lived up to the expectation and then some. Brought my 1 year old daughter and they had perfect flavors for her. I got her the banana gelato which was perfect, not too much sugar, and she loved it! I tried the black raspberry gelato, and was by far the best black raspberry I've EVER had. Yes, ever! Not only was the gelato delicious, but the customer service was great too. They went out of their way to make sure you had everything you needed. They also let you sample plenty of flavors. 5 stars is well worth it for this little gelato place. I'm a total ice cream girl but this place would totally convert me. Sample as many flavors as you want, which you most certainly will want to. They have such an incredible assortment that it made the decision a painful one. I opted for classic chocolate, bacio (which is chocolate hazelnut, think Ferrero Rocher), and coffee oreo. Dolce's is a small, yet delicious gelato shop located next to Piro's Bakery in Methuen. The serving sizes are generous, and they offer a variety of flavors (the low-fat triple berry was great!), although a few more fruit-based flavors wouldn't hurt.. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available, although there can be a lot of spiders that reside by the outdoor seating. The best part is that they're open late, even during the week! A friend and I stopped by at 10 pm, and the store owner was very kind and welcomed us in, even as the store was closing. Definitely check this place out. read more

This place totally lives up to the 5 star rating on Yelp and it's worth the drive from wherever you are. It's a small-ish shop, but they have an incredible variety of flavors. The staff are super friendly will give you as many free tastes as you want without judging you, well maybe silently judging you. The small size is plenty big enough and you can mix a few flavors. The owner is from Italy and ran a gelato shop there for two years prior to coming to America. This establishment has been open for seven and one half years. It is a smallish shop easy to miss in a small strip mall but well worth the effort to find it. They serve the gelato in three sizes; one scoop, two scoops and three scoops. There is not much size difference between the options. The gelato is very flavorful and it is evident that only the best ingredients are used in its preperation. I sure do love this place! They serve some pretty delicious gelato here!! On the left side are the fruity gelatos, and to the right are the nutty gelatos. So far, I 've tried Very Berry, Passionfruit, Mango, Strawberry, and Black Raspberry, and they're all pretty good. My least favorite of out of the list would be the black raspberry, since it has a bit of an unexpected milky taste to it. But otherwise, everything else I've tried is on point. The people who work here are also super sweet and nice. It's just a wonderful environment in general. I'll be sure to drop by and try out more flavors! read more

I never really had gelato before Dolce Freddo, but this stuff is damn good. I prefer to come here for gelato than go somewhere for ice cream. Ok, I live about 1/4 mile from this place so it's nice to take a walk here in the evening and get some gelato during the summer. My favorite flavor is tiramisu, but even plain old vanilla has tons of flavor. They also serve tiramisu which is the best I have ever had. Ice cream is officially over for me. If I am within 20 miles of Dolce Freddo Gelato and someone wants ice cream, I am driving them here for an education in what creamy, frozen deliciousness can be. I have tried the vanilla, chocolate, strawberry creamsicle, pistachio, pumpkin, mocha chip, tiramisu, and bacio gelatto. I've also had the blood orange sorbetto. Of all these, the pistachio was my favorite, the mocha chip, bacio, & pumpkin close seconds. The sorbetto was also great, but I prefer creamy dairy to fruity confections. My co-worker brought in a few 16-scoop coolers as a gratitude gesture and my whole office could not have been more impressed. We were buzzing about it for a half hour and I was compelled to bring my wife to the shop the weekend following. The shopgirl was a high school senior and she was very helpful, attentive, gave suggestions and was genuinely interested in us having a great experience. I am usually underwhelmed with service received from part-timer adolescents these days, but this was a happy surprise. Remember: gelatto has half the fat of ice cream and double the flavor! read more

Seriously, the introduction was crazy detailed, better than some food/brewery tours I've been on! It was a 'gelato experience' for sure! The Gelato itself is amazing, as the other reviews state. Lots of options for flavors, lots of seating available. Open year round. Supposedly really good hot chocolate (although I have yet to try myself). I was also very impressed with their 'take out'. We ordered a several scoops for the freezer. They packaged it in the nicest foam container that made the gelato stay fresh for at least a few weeks- I'm sure it could have lasted longer, but we were hungry!! read more

Best place to get gelato in the area. The customer service is great and the gelato is even better. The staff greet you as soon as you walk-in and suggest the newest flavors. The pistachio and mango flavors are my top favorites, needless to say, 80% of the flavors are absolutely delicious. The Gelato at Tuscan market doesn't even come close to Dolce Freddo. Being just a one minute walk from here, I think this place opened before I moved to Los Angeles prior to summer of 2005 or around that time or slightly after. I never stepped inside until I was home on a visit the past week and I always wanted to check it out for years! My parents had been in there once, I believe, when they first opened years ago, and remembered the owner (It was some Italian name and I believe he was from Italy) when he was interviewed on RAI Italian network TV for the place the past year or so. I was surprised at how many selections they had of gelato! There are so many! I think they give samples but I asked for a small cup and if they take ATM and didn't mind not sampling.
