We stopped in for a little treat after a quick visit to the beach. They have so many flavors!! This month the theme was something along the lines of "sea mythology" (think mermaids, kraken, sea witches, etc.) so they had probably around 6 flavors with clever names to fit the theme. Besides that, they had all the standard gelato flavors, plus a ton more unique ones! I was tempted to try so many of them (even though I'm that person that always just orders chocolate chip or hazelnut anyway). My daughter picked taro and the "sea witch" flavor, which was purple sweet potato and squid ink caramel. She got to sample both of them before deciding since I wasn't sure if she would like those flavors, but she did! And even though she mainly picked them because they were purple, they actually complimented each other well since they were both sweet root vegetables haha. This place offered 4 different sizes (kid, small, medium and large). Even the kid size was a bit much for my 4 year old daughter, but it's probably the right size for like a 10 year old... Naturally I helped her finish it! The gelato was delicious and I loved the uniqueness of both of these flavors! The visual aesthetic was fabulous, too. Our server was very kind and patient as my daughter decided what she wanted. We sat in the store for a few minutes as we ate before we headed back to our parking meter. There were around 4 small tables with a couple chairs each for sitting. It seems like enough since most people probably grab n go since there's so much window shopping to do in this area. We stopped in today late afternoon. The gelato tasted alright. I liked the chocolate chocolate chip and the Oreo flavor well enough, but the birthday cake flavor has a weird aftertaste to it. That said, the service was terrible. Really unfriendly woman behind the counter who acted as though taking my order was a huge inconvenience. I got a small ($5.95) pistachio (light on the flavor) and chocolate truffle sea salt (great if you love chocolate, but oh so rich), a kids size ($4.75) Pippin (chocolate with cinnamon) and a kids ($4.75) with banana and mascarpone. My favorite was the Pippin-perfectly balanced with the cinnamon enhancing the chocolate. I have a kid with nut allergies and they have a LOT of nut products. Even though my girlfriend and I filled ourselves with great Italian food next door at Romeo Cucina, we decided we still had a little room for gelato. The selections were vast and the staff were so friendly and allowed us to sample a few so we could be sure of our choice. We ended up sharing a medium cup and it was more than enough for the two of us. Don't be fooled by the cup size, as they fill them high. We didn't want to wait in a long line so we stumbled across this spot. Not sure why this place doesn't also have a line! They have tons of unique flavors. I got the ferrero rocher and fruit of the forest (mixed berries) the combination of the two flavors was immaculate! I'm still dreaming of this flavor combination. Pretty meh experience. The gelato was ok- some tasted natural (they say all natural ingredients) like pistachio and mint. But birthday cake and chocolate had a chemical aftertaste. As we were getting our scoops, I asked if I could get a bit of the gelato topping scooped into the cup (some gelato have toppings like sprinkles or chocolate already covering the gelato in the tub). The female worker said , I can't do that. My boss will kill me. It will ruin the appearance. Mind you - all of the tubs of gelato were not neat or orderly in appearance - jagged edges, older tubs scooped into new tubs- so that sounded like a lame excuse. Also , what kind of boss instills such fear over a scoop of gelato? Left a bad taste literally and figuratively. I'll continue to go to the other gelato place nearby. read more

We have been here several times, but I took my kids there again today and I figured I owe them a review seeing as we keep on going back! The gelato is so fresh and rich and delicious. We cannot go to Laguna Beach without stopping in here. There are some flavors that are amazing and always seem to be there such as the Ferrero and Nutty Irish, birthday cake etc. However, there are also seasonal options that are always a surprise. There was a Star Wars inspired section in previous visits and today we had what I can only guess was Wicked inspired. You can mix different flavors in your cup and everyone can have up to 3 sample tastings if you just cannot decide or have always wanted to try another flavor. It's a quaint little shop, but does have a few little tables if you want to eat there. There is some parking out front but it is usually full, so we just park in a lot and walk on over when we are done with the beach or lunch etc. I saw on their screen today that they also use all natural food coloring (vegetable dye) instead of that awful chemical stuff.
