Cute little spot that had a great selection and variety of flavors! Coming in, the ladies were super sweet and welcomed for my dog to come in. They're very dog-friendly and even have a pup gelato for them that comes with a treat. My dog absolutely LOVED that! The flavors we got were really good. Not sure if it's because I'm not from this area that's normally higher cost of living, but I did feel like the prices were fairly steep. I appreciate the caramel gelato had that tiny bit of the bitterness you get when the sugar is properly caramelized. That's how you get that nice aroma going that you cannot get in like one of those factory made ice cream or gelato. Aroma counts a lot. It's difficult to fake a good aroma in food. read more

It was an overall perfect experience- the staff was friendly, the flavor variety was varied and tempting, and the gelato itself was amazing. We tried three flavors- Kentucky butter cake, death by chocolate, and pistachio. Each was delicious, but the pistachio was out of this world. I stopped at Lucky Dog Gelato in San Clemente after finding it on Google Maps and seeing the good reviews. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. We were visiting from Los Angeles and went out of our way to drive there because of the ratings. When we arrived, we asked if we could taste a couple of flavors before ordering. The employee seemed very hesitant and repeatedly mentioned that they are a small business, as if providing a small sample was a problem. The sample that was given was extremely tiny, and the overall attitude felt unfriendly and unwelcoming. What made the experience worse was the disrespectful tone toward customers who were simply trying to decide what to order. Trying a flavor before buying gelato is very common, and most places are happy to offer small samples. Instead, we felt like we were bothering the staff just by asking. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this place. The service left a very negative impression, and unfortunately I would not return. read more

The gelato is truly authentic--honestly better than what I had in Italy. I love that they rotate flavors, but their classics never disappoint. I ended up getting Death by Chocolate and Pistachio. They are very generous with the portions. The chocolate is super rich and chocolately. It's a bit on the dark side, but not bitter. This is perfect for true chocolate/dark chocolate lovers. My friends thought it was a bit strong, but I didn't mind it. The pistachio is very natural and just like pistachio, no artificial flavors here. My friends thought it was very pistachio lol. Both flavors are rich and what I would expect. Love their quality! They have a couple seats and benches available inside and seating outside but not a whole lot of seats. I would definitely come back if I'm in the area again.
