It's hard for me to give any place 5 stars. Normally I wouldn't overlook the dated decor but you just cannot resist the charm of this place... especially Chef Julia!! Get here early to get a seat, because it's small. You will be greeted with a warm delicious Italian roll that you will reorder more for your meal! I could decide between lasagna and Moussaka ! Chef Julia offered to give me half of each and boy were both a delicious treat. She asked which I liked better and I think the moussaka won out by a small margin. But I'm pretty sure I'll need to return just to make sure!! And the sauce !! Simply WOW! Fresh , tasty and did I mention WOW!! The staff was friendly and very attentive!! They finished the meal with these delightful donut like treats covered in honey and powdered sugar ! What can I say, I'll be back !! I want to try more of her recipes. Every time we walk in we are greeted by a bunch of greetings! You know you are welcome to eat there (well carryout) which is nice! Food it hot and I love the way they have a variety on their menu but it's not overwhelming. Make sure you order the Tiramisu. Not too bland not too sweet. Ps. Check out the daily specials. I tried this for the first time tonight after wanting to for awhile. I ordered takeout - a small supreme pizza and a lasagna which came with a salad and garlic bread. The pizza is great. It was slightly undercooked but I just popped it in my toaster oven for a minute and it was great. Delicious flavor and great dough. I still think Rocky's pizza on Potomac is the best pizza in town but this is a runner up. The side salad that came with the lasagna was delicious, fresh veggies and what seemed like mozzarella cheese and I ordered their homemade balsamic vinaigrette which was great. Definitely homemade. The garlic bread was very sub-par, just a fresh roll with garlic butter - nothing special. The lasagna was strange. I ordered it because of raving reviews on it but I'm not sure what to think... it wasn't bad by any means... but different. I love lasagna, my whole family is Italian (not that that makes me an expert, I've Just eaten a lot of Italian food all over America and in Italy). I'm pretty sure it was the meat mixture that didn't taste like it belonged in lasagna. It seemed like ground beef... and it had something sweet tasting in it? Not sure what and definitely some spices you typically wouldn't see in lasagna. I feel like they may use the same meat in their stuffed cabbage because that's where it tasted like it would belong. Had some Eastern European flavors rather than Italian. It definitely tasted sweet and didn't fit right in the lasagna. But like I said it didn't ruin it - I just wouldn't order it again. I loved how it seemed like a family business and the woman in the photo outside the restaurant was in the kitchen cooking away and laughing - that was really cool to see. Everyone working there seemed happy and the interior albeit small, was clean and cute. Parking lot is tiny so I could imagine during busy times finding parking might be difficult. Love this place. If there is such a thing as an Eastern European and Italian dive, this is what that would be. Food is consistent, and for the most part, very good, if you're willing to step out of your comfort zone. I wouldn't recommend ordering anything you can get anywhere else, because those aren't the items that shine. You can get a sandwich and frozen fries at any restaurant. No alcohol, but you can bring your own, which is even better in my book. Solid place. A little cold in the winter, due to being extremely small, with the door opening constantly, but don't let that deter you. Friendly service, but can get quite loud. The crust on the pizza was some of the best I have ever had, the roll on the subs were perfect, and the complimentary donuts at the end were off the chain. We love to find little local restaurants off the beaten path when we're traveling. This was definitely a diamond in the rough! We ordered Stromboli and shared it. It came with bread and donuts for dessert. We were waited on by a number of people asking us if we had everything...everyone was kind and very attentive. The owner made her way out to the guests twice while we were there. Just so you know...this is a tiny establishment that is just a house with about 12 tables...but it's definitely worth a try. read more

On my trip from Pennsylvania to Virginia, I used yelp and found this wonderful little hole in the wall. I asked the very sweet waitress what I should have. She suggested a "chef's surprise." I'll keep it a surprise. Too much food but I'm not complaining as I did not eat lunch and was hungry. Don't come here looking for upscale cuisine. Come here if you are looking for home style cooking in a great atmosphere. Bring your own wine. Chat with the owner and her sons that own and run the place. If you speak Romanian, even better. My family and I went to Dolce a few weeks back, and it was a fantastic experience. Our waitress was extremely friendly, and kept checking in to see if my 2-year-old daughter was enjoying herself, which is definitely beyond expectation. A real hole in the wall surprise place - and for a choice made completely on the strength of the preceding Yelp reviewers - it came through perfectly - we had exactly the meal we were hoping to have. Its a family run no-frills friendly place - Julia is the bright, bustling life-force here - and you are pretty much treated like a family friend. Menu items include gems like "Julia stuffed cabbage" - which I did not try, but along with the Moldavian chicken - Julia is from Romania, she says - leaves you with something unique to go there for.The lasagna & ziti we ordered were just right for us - came with hot rolls from the pizza oven, garlic bread & a very good side salad with a nice balsamic vinaigrette.. Free beignets for dessert, and club soda was free as well. An excellent dinner for under $30 - well actually under $40 with tip. No alchohol or credit cards as mentioned before. We ate this place yesterday ! It was terrible! Will never go again! Two of our sandwiches the rolls were so stale and hard you could not eat them. The creamer for the coffee curdled when put in coffee! The waiter had no idea what he was doing ! It was very cold inside ! Not the cleanest place! You wouldn't think much of this place from the outside. Hard to park, looks like a dive, & a strange hard to find location. Step through the door & you are welcomed, by the cooks & the owner. The owner looks a real character. Old style chefs hat in a strange dazzling pattern. I only wanted take out out, but I was treated like they knew me like an old friend. Told to sit & make myself comfortable, seconds later a complimentary roll of bread along with a knob of blended butter. I insisted thati just wanted take out. 'Customer must be hungry eat bread' ok I praised that in a slightly racist manner... Not taking the piss that they were Eastern European. Honestly!!! I browsed their menu further as I ate the lovely homemade bread. Ok I'll get some tiramisu to go... Nice tactic!:) Customers came in as I waited. The owner treated them the same as me. Love this small family run restaurant. Our standard takeout is the white pizza with broccoli, shrimp and fresh garlic.
