Very poor customer service. After returning the car with no issues, I was later hit with additional fees by the staff (specifically a heavier-set lady at the counter) with almost no explanation. They claimed there was a nail in the tire and charged me $550 for a tire. This is Houston -- nails in tires happen. But there was no warning, no tire pressure light, and no explanation of where the nail was or when the damage supposedly happened. For a rental company, I would expect proper tire inspections and reasonable handling of normal wear issues. Instead, they went straight to charging the full fee without any discussion. To make things worse, there was no shuttle service, so I had to walk to another rental company just to get a ride back. Overall, this place was extremely disappointing. Avoid Dollar Rent A Car -- Hidden Fees and Dishonest Charges I rented from Dollar Rent A Car expecting a final total of $230.66--the amount I was originally quoted. I declined all insurance (I'm covered through my Chase Sapphire card) and opted out of the pre-paid fuel option. I even refueled twice--once during the week and again just before returning the car--to ensure it was full. Despite that, I was still charged a $34.12 "fuel and service charge". On top of that, they added additional unexplained "vehicle license recovery" and "concession recovery" fees that weren't disclosed clearly upfront. In the end, I was charged $296.99--almost $70 more than the quote I was given. This feels like a dishonest, predatory business practice. I tried to be meticulous and responsible, and they still found ways to inflate the cost after the fact. I do not recommend renting from Dollar. There are more transparent companies out there that won't nickel-and-dime you with sneaky post-return charges. read more

I got a rental through Priceline. They gave me a Toyota Corolla and charged me over $400 for car insurance which included $200 for a deposit which I will be upset if I don't get it back. They conspicuosly used clear tape to hold the front bumper because it was falling off . I did not realize it untill it started raining and the tape started to come off. The front bumper begain to fall off and was worried throughout my vacation it was going to fall off. everytime I hit a bump on the road. If you want to make it to your gate with plenty of time, maybe think about another rental car company. An employee at this location told me, "Our cars aren't as good as some of the other companies, so to compete, our fees might be a little higher." Trying to get someone on the phone for this location may take a few calls, you may not get through at all, after 20 minutes on hold without actually speaking to a person during business hours, you begin to get the feeling that there's no one out there. If you'd like to see a poorly run business up close or just need to exercise the limits of your patience then go with Dollar Car Rental. To be fair, the employees there are very nice and try to be helpful, but I think this company likely suffers from extremely poor management practices. By the way, this branch posts only an 866 number on the website which goes to some corporate routing and you can't call this location direct. Signing a Blank Check with Dollar Car Rental May 2023 Dollar Car renter beware! You may be signing a blank check with your rental agreement. I booked through a 3rd party (Capital One Travel) after choosing the rental from Dollar Car Rental at Houston Hobby airport. I paid the base rate through Capital One, and received documentation that the extra taxes and fees were to be exactly $74.02. The price upon pick-up was $32.00 more than disclosed. The agent at the desk could not explain the discrepancy, but did threaten me when I said I had my own insurance coverage. She demanded to know the name of my car insurance company so she could decide. Upon picking up the car, I was given a key, and told the car was on the other side of the building. There was no car there, but there was a sea of cars in the back of the building. I could not locate the car, so one of the staff told me I had to push the alarm on the key fob in order to find the car. There was no initial inspection, so I took photos of some dings I saw on the car. There was no paperwork, as I was told everything was online. I did not receive the receipt for my car rental until 3 days after I dropped it off. I had to call the agency to get the final receipt. I contacted Thrifty and Dollar Car Rental to address the added charges, and the rep from Capital One Travel called as well, informing them that they post only taxes and fees that are agreed to. The Dollar Car Rental Agent told her that they are taxes and fees and hung up on her. I travel and rent cars often. This is my first experience like this with any car rental company. The customer treatment was ridiculously misleading and unprofessional, I do not recommend. read more

This place is a joke!!! I reserved a car a week in advance to get there the day of to be told I have to put my name on a waiting list because they don't have any cars. The manager said it was at least an hour wait because they get cars from another rental company. After all the waiting I get called to the counter and given the car that was parked in a rental slot when I initially got there so I was inconvenienced for nothing. I go outside to get in the car and I have the wrong keys. Back inside I go...more waiting. On top of that I had to wait another 30 minutes because the car that they gave me had a mechanical hold on it for an oil change so the guy had to drive it across the street to get clearance to rent it. My stellar experience started with the nice shuttle driver that's lived in Houston 50+ years and hails from Louisiana. He had on nice smelling cologne and was a sweetheart!! We talked about the Saints, Oilers now Titans, Texans and Broncos. He chuckled when I said thank God for LSU closing out AL this yr! Pamela greeted me inside the rental counter and was friendly and professional. She chatted with me while their system printed out my receipt. I'm visiting an ailing uncle and she said she would keep him in her thoughts and prayers. Very sweet!! To the awesome attendant that showed me to my car outside and gave me a free upgrade since there were no midsize cars available. Terrible experience. I tried to contact the branch to delay my pickup the morning of my rental, but it's impossible to speak to a real person and the online options didn't let you change your rental. I rushed to show up at my original time, just to arrive and be told they wouldn't have vehicles for 'at least an hour'. There were about 20 other people waiting already.
