Cindy at General Mitchell was very helpful and quick with handling my car rental. Easiest car rental experience I have ever had.

#1. Prepaid through Priceline. $200 + in hidden costs added upon arrival. #2. Vehicle was full of dents, dings, and scratches. Not what was expected for a national car rental chain. #3. Vehicle was dirty inside, despite having a sticker on the outside of the door saying it was cleaned. We spent 45 minutes wiping down seats, door panels, dashboard, consoles, etc. #4. Tire tread was on its last life and we were driving cross-country with the vehicle. One tire had cracking in the tread. #5. Oil change light was on. #6. Brakes were bad. You could feel them pulsing at freeway speeds. #7. Before leaving the airport, I pointed out #2 and #3 (above) to the inspection staff and was told that it was the only vehicle in this class available. "Take it or leave it," were my options...we were leaving for a cross country trip, so I had no choice. #8. Upon driving a short distance, I realized #4, #5, and #6 (above). I tried to call the airport location direct, but nobody answered the phone. I called the 800 number and voiced my concerns. They stated they would forward my complaints to a supervisor and have them call me within an hour. #9. Several hours later, Dollar Car Rental roadside assistance called me. No supervisor ever called. Roadside assistance was no help! #10. During our trip, we unknowingly passed through a toll at the KY/IN border. The toll was $4.31. Dollar later sent us a bill for $19.31 ($4.31 + $15 administrative fees). We were never given the opportunity to pay the toll directly to the toll authority (we did exactly that with several IL tolls). I would never rent from this company again. Horrible product, horrible customer service! read more

Rented a car with an agreed upon price of ~417 dollars online. Process to fill out paperwork took at least 15 minutes and I was being rushed at the end of it so I did not notice that they had added ~300 dollars in insurance I did not want. When I realized it I was 2 hours away from the airport and called their customer service line, who assured me that they would put a note in the contract and that I'd be able to get that amount refunded when I returned the car, the customer service agent refused to provide a confirmation number which should have been a red flag. When I returned the car 5 days later I was told they could not remove the insurance because I needed to do that at a Dollar rental location, of which there as none closer than the airport I was 2 hours away from and which I was not told. I can't even refute this on my credit card because they won't help me. I hope you're happy Dollar. You got 300 dollars of my money but I will never rent from Dollar, Hertz, or Thrifty ever again. read more

When we arrived at the rental car counter there was a line of 8 people waiting and one person working. We watched two other employees in the back wandering around not helping. After 30 minutes one finally came to the front desk to help out the lone worker. I guess there were issues with people's reservations because we waited another 20 minutes before someone at a different rental counter (Budget) told us they would help us. Had it not been for him I don't know how long we would have waited. I'd recommend using a different rental company at this airport. Dollar clearly doesn't have it together. read more

Arrived to Milwaukee to find myself in line behind 20 other customers who had already checked in and who were waiting for their keys. Lost 90 minutes waiting for our car which resulted in running short of time and putting us in the envelope for much worse rush hour traffic. Called customer support - no one picked up. Spoke with the agent at the desk - basically told, "sorry, tough S$$t." Will NEVER rent with Dollar again. read more

Horrible experience. Rented a car for four days from Milwaukee Billy Mitchell Airport. Pickup took over an hour. Only two agents working the desk. I had prepaid my rental online and purchased the optional insurance. Agent said I hadn't purchased insurance and encouraged me to purchase more. I showed her receipt. Returned the car on 8/3/2024 with no damage whatsoever to the after hours return area at 5 am on my return day. Was billed $455 to my credit card for damaged windshield. No proof, no photos, no explanation, just a receipt for the damage cost. The only way to contact Dollar is online. I filed a complaint with both Dollar and the insurance carrier on the same day. Have not received any response from the company whatsoever. Will never rent from Hertz or Dollar again. read more

They didn't have my car type i had reserved 3 months prior. So when they offered to upgrade me, I said sure. They then put me in an SUV which was TINY. Some POS from KIA. Beware of renting from Dollar Car Rental. We recently rented from Dollar Car Rental for 5 days. On the 4th day the windshield started showing a crack that grew throughout the day. We were not aware of anything hitting the windshield. We did notice a chip in the windshield at the top driver-side corner from which the crack started. Dollar had no way of knowing if that chip occurred while we were in possession of the car or if the chip occurred prior to our renting. We understand that we are responsible for damage while the car is in our possession. Given that the chip is just as likely to have happened prior to our renting as it is to have happened during our renting, I would have expected Dollar Car Rental to cover the repair cost. Budget Car Rental covered the repair cost several years ago with a similar damage incident. Beware of Dollar Car Rental!!!! read more

Two cars I've rented from Dollar and they were just fine. I have to book "intermediate" for work and so I don't really get much choice when I arrive. The first week, I had a severely underpowered Dodge Avenger. The second week, an awesome Ford Fusion. Hit or miss. If you're registered for their Dollar Express program, then you can skip the counter and go right out to the lot, which is on the ground floor of the parking garage and is the furthest away from the airport. Just follow the signs to Dollar. It's completely under cover, which is nice to avoid the weather but the darkness of the garage area makes it difficult to properly inspect the car before you take it (ALWAYS inspect the car and report any scratches or dings) and to photograph the car when you return (ALWAYS take pictures of the car from every angle to prove that you didn't do any damage). I had no problems, YMMV. They are a TON cheaper than my usual go-to rental company, so I'd certainly rent from them again. read more

UNSAFE VEHICLE!!! From arriving to pickup the rental at the Miami international airport to drop off was mind-blowing! Our reservation was not met. The staff could only tell me, that when a car comes in that meets our reservation, we will then have our car. The car was filthy. As we headed on to the freeway, not only is there a disturbing knock under the car, the rear passenger tire alerts for low air. We make the call to Dollar, when we are told that a tow truck will come get the vehicle and we will be responsible to find a ride to a Dollar car rental to pick up a new car. REALLY!?! THEY WOULD LEAVE US ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD!!! Absolutely no concern that they put us in a unsafe vehicle!!! read more

Prepaid using a third party (ticketsatwork), and unfortunately there was a screw up with a replacement credit card I had planned to use for the security hold and was forced to use my debit card instead. Dollar was pushing all rentals over the their Hertz counter (same parent company) the day we arrived in MKE. I needed the rental car to get us to Green Bay to see my brother and attend the Packers game, which was the reason my husband and I were taking this trip in the first place. The representative who first attempted to help me was an older women, who asked for a third form of ID after presenting my DL and debit card. Since I am far from home, I didn't take my entire wallet, but a small card holder/money clip easy to carry on my person. She asked if I had a credit card or other ID on me, I said that I had my boarding pass, and my return flight info, but nothing else. She stated I could show a Costco or Sam's membership card or an insurance card, to which I replied I don't have the physical cards, but I have a of those items digitally on my phone, or I have the credit card on my phone for Samsung pay if they accept that for incidentals. The women behind the counter refused to rent to me, to which I requested the manager. The manager, Kurt, went through the same routine his agent had done, I explained the situation again. He then mentioned a utility bill would work. I again told him I can pull up the PDF on my phone. He stated it needed to be a physical copy. I offered to email it to them, and said surely they could print it. Kurt told me they had no way of printing things. I knew he was lying because a) they have to print the rental agreements, and b) I could literally see their office printer on the WiFi settings in my phone, it was just password protected so I couldn't connect and DIY the print job myself. Kurt goes on to refuse to rent to me again. I asked for the management personnel above him, Kurt stated his GM was not on-premises at the time. I asked for him to phone her or have her call me, he told me this was not possible. I then called Dollar customer service, got an agent on the phone, and even the agent on the phone tried to speak to Kurt and let him know all of the items I had offered should allow him to rent to me, but Kurt refused to speak with the customer service agent. After my insistence and refusal to leave the counter as both my husband and I would have basically been stranded at the airport, all of a sudden Kurt's GM appears and asks me what the problem seems to be. Finally Jackie (the GM) has me email her my utility bill and I get to leave after this ordeal taking nearly two hours. Overall, the experience was horrible and I plan to never rent from Dollar,Hertz, or any of their subsidiaries or affiliated companies ever again. read more

Everything went fine until we dropped off the vehicle to find out that they have charged us a fuel surcharge even though we had filled up the gas tank completely. Apparently were not the only ones that experience this many review show that that is their scam. Our problem was when we drop the vehicle off at 4 o'clock in the morning there is no representatives there from dollar thrifty to check the vehicle in. Make sure you take pictures of the gas gauge and have copies of your fuel receipts because they're just going to charge her for Fuel that you already purchased. If I could give this establishment less than a star I would. The worst experience ever renting a vehicle! Our flight was delayed two hours so we were two hours late getting to pick up the car. We reserved a minivan and they did not have one on the lot. We waited an hour for them to clean up a seven passenger vehicle for us. No dollar representative went over the car or instructions with us to make sure there was no body damage. We drove from Milwaukee to the apostle Islands with two bald tires and one that would not hold air. We had to stop every 4 to 5 hours to put air in the rear tire. When we got back to Milwaukee we had planned on keeping the car 4 more days. We called the ticket counter to tell them that we wanted to turn in the car because of the bald tire and flat tire situation. Horrible phone service transferred back and forth to three different people and the bottom line is we are returning the car and getting a car from national rental car for the remainder of our vacation. I would never recommend this rental car company to anyone. Stick with the bigger rental companies. Remember, you get what you pay for. And we paid out the wazoo for a vehicle that was subpar at best. So I saw these reviews after I had already put down money to rent a car. It was almost 400 dollars cheaper than any other place. I did have to pay extra for taxes but was informed it's because you can't pay sales tax ahead of time. Which means any other place I would have rented from would have been even more expensive. After reading the reviews I was honestly terrified. But I don't understand why they're rated so poorly because I had a great experience! The line was so long because there's 3 different rental companies being operated out of one desk. Im guessing because of employee shortage but no idea. So yes the line was long but that's not Hertz/ Dollars fault. I waited patiently and when it was my turn Maria was so helpful, kind and even sold me on an upgraded vehicle. This was after she just was dealing with someone rude right before me. My car was clean, full tank, easy to find and I didn't see any damage on it. So far the best of a bunch of bad choices at MKE. They often have a long line, and it's slow because they are very aggressive about trying to up sell you on the unnecessary additional coverage. But do check your car over carefully before leaving, even though if you do find something getting the attention of the one slow fellow working on the garage end will set you back another 10 or 15 minutes. Once I picked up a car with a slow tire leak that I should have noticed when I got it, ended up paying for a new tire. I left something in another car and lost and found couldn't even call me back (confusingly the woman in charge of lost and found is named "Avis,") and yet, for all these problems, it's better than the other car rentals at this airport. read more

It's too bad I had to leave one star for this review. I had made a reservation ahead of time and I'm glad I did. The rental car area at MKE is terrible! There were about a hundred people waiting in line at other counters but Dollar was open. When I got up to see the girl she was terrible! She was very short with me. I could tell that she was having a terrible day but that isn't my fault. Don't take your crap out on me. I had a coupon for free upgrade that she wouldn't take, even though it said to present it at the counter. I just couldn't even argue with her. I plan on finding out who owns this place and letting them know how terrible it was. I'm also letting Dollar corporate know. If you don't care about customer service this is your place! UPDATE: They charged me an extra $100 for cleaning even though the vehicle was never smoked in and there was no damage. I've disputed it with them and was told too bad! The rental agreement covers normal wear and tear on the vehicle. All they had to do was wash and vacuum and that cost me $100!!!! The whole thing is shady. Shady business practices. They commented on this review acting like they care but the entire page is filled with negative reviews going back a few years. Obviously you don't care that much or you would've solved the problems. Absolutely ridiculous. This was my first time renting a car and I will never Dollar Car Rental ever again. When I first went to pick up the car the garage was very dimly lit so it was hard to see if there was any damage to the car. I had to walk around the car and inspect it using the flashlight on my phone. Not seeing anything, I marked no damage on the little slip that they give you and took off. I then preceded to take the car to work the following day and when I got back and could finally see the car in the light I noticed that the headlight was not seated properly, there was a crack in the bumper and that the fog light on the bottom was broken. I then drove the car back to the place where I picked it up and told the manager of the damage that I found and that I wanted a different car because this one had obviously been in an accident. The manager was understanding and gave me a different car but I had to fill out a vehicle incident report which is not a big deal. However, after returning the car the following week I got a phone call from the company saying that I owed money for damages on the car that I took back. After being on the phone for hours and returning to talk to a manager about the situation they said there was nothing they could do since it was checked in with no damage by the helper that moves the cars. This is a ridiculous statement because I watched the helpers move other cars when I returned mine, all they did was drive them around and put them back into their spots. They do NOT check the vehicle over at all. Getting charged for damage that I found on the car is absolutely ridiculous. I would never recommend this company to anyone that I know. read more

I would have had to wait until 6:00 PM to even get my car. I would never book a car from these people again. Rental from 12/6/14-12/9/14 Rental car smelled like cigarette smoke and had rock salt spilled in the trunk; clearly, no one bothered to clean this vehicle prior to assigning it to me. Also, I am an express member, yet they did not have my reservation printed so I had to wait, outside (express members bypass the inside counter and proceed directly to the window in the garage) in December while they found it and printed the paperwork again. There was a line and it was cold so I decided not to try to get another car. I have had good luck with Dollar in other cities, just not at MKE. Pay more for better service and a clean car from another company in Milwaukee. read more

Maybe I lucked out, but I had a great experience from start to finish with Dollar. Showed up a little early to pick up my rental and was met with a very personable guy who checked me in and got me set to go. Insurance seems like it was about double what Hertz was, which was the only thing that sucked about the entire rental. Car was perfect, even had help from the lot agent to adjust the seat. He was really friendly as well and made sure I was taken care of before leaving. In my experience with Hertz, they just tell you where the car is, and the key is in it.....I actually had to get the key from the lot agent and he was as friendly as can be. Brought the car back, the guy checked it out and was really laid back and funny, got my receipt and was on my way. I'd definitely book with Dollar again. read more

Lousy service. They did a bate and switch. We had ordered a full size car. When we got to the car rental counter, they told us we had to wait 45 min for our car. In the meantime, they tried to get us to take an upgrade and pay for the upgrade even though they already and messed with us and did not have our car. At the end of 30 mins, they gave us a standard size car. We realized this after leaving the airport tired, hungry and eager to get to our destination. After numerous phone calls getting no where, we attempted to talk the "phantom" supervisor back at the airport. He has never called us back. We could not get a supervisor from customer service on the phone. We could only leave messages. The "supervisors" were always in meetings. The clerk at their counter whom did the original contract admitted he had done this. Nice company. Now here is an update. We got a call from a customer service supervisor. After a lengthy discussion, he told us the old switcheroo was standard procedure for their company and that they never had a full size car waiting for us. We will NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH Dollar Rent A Car. I will go out of my way to not use them, even if costs me more money. read more

Run away dont waste time or money! Reserved and upgraded online two weeks before arrival. After 6 hours of travel arrived in the morning and was told zero available cars of the kind I reserved. Older lady said I should wait an hour, an hour to see if one comes in!!!!!!! I got a crapy non 4x4 in snowy weather that I had to travel all over Wi with. I got back 8 hours later and was treated worse than in the morning with zero cars...this place is a complete shame, hoax, should not be allowed to operate with all the lies... what else you want from Wi? read more

Tried calling Dollar rental but wasn't able to extend my reservation on the phone, so I just showed up when I could. Andrea was super understanding and that took my stress level way down. I picked up the car at the airport where the agency is located. Once leaving the garage, I noticed a clunking from the transmission, annoying but not initially a concern. By the time I reached my destination, it was clear the transmission was failing. I immediately called back the agent and they told me to bring the car back but to fill it up with gas. I did not, as the only reason for the mileage I put on was to basically reach my destination, then return because of the defective car (about 3 hours wasted). Once there, the woman at the return desk was incredibly rude and lectured me on not "filling it up". I explained again to her, that the car was defective. Her associate agreed and they actually chalked the windshield and had the car removed from the garage. That didn't stop her from embarrassing me in front of other customers making me feel like I was trying to pull a fast one. She was initially going to charge me for the upgrade (as there were no more cars of that level available) but she told me she was doing me a favor by not adding it. The "upgrade" car, was dirty, old and frankly, not much better than the first. When I got back with that car for my return home, I found that the woman had charged me anyhow for the gas from the defective car. The agent that time was actually helpful and professional and removed it. That man, was the only positive thing I have to say about Dollar Rent a Car. They remind me of Payless. You get what you pay for and I will never rent from this company again. I contacted their customer service department via e-mail but they have declined to respond. read more

I went to this location because they had the cheapest pricing at the airport. I booked directly through dollar's website. Upon arriving, I proceeded to give the rental specailist my ID and Credit Card. Come to find out because my last name on my drivers license did not match my major credit card due to a recent marriage, they could not rent me a car. Also, I showed the man (that didn't know anything), two debit cards that matched my ID, proving I'm the same person, they still would not rent to me. Jessie Beckett the manager, did not show any sympathy or care that my name just changed. I offered to show them a copy of my marriage certicate, they said it had to be a hard copy. Hell, I could've emailed it to them, but that wasn't an option. Also, I offered to show my old license (not expired) but old due to the name change, and she couldn't take that because it's "voided". I immediatley left with no car, and went home to file a complaint with Dollar. Hopefully someone will get back to me. Prior to me reaching out to Jessie's boss. Do better Dollar. No wonder you guys have bad reviews. I will continue spending my extra coins at Avis/Budget. read more

On Thursday, 12/27/18, I made a reservation for a vehicle through Priceline. When I arrived, the woman working at the counter asked if I wanted to upgrade. I said no. I asked to add liability insurance. When she printed the initial copy of my rental record, it had both extensive additional insurance charges and an upgrade fee. I asked her to remove both of those and said clearly that I did not want to upgrade the vehicle. Now that I have returned the vehicle, I reviewed my final charges and see that there is a $90 upgrade fee included. I called the customer assistance line, but they stated they did not have the ability to do anything more than give me 50% back on my card. They were generally unpleasant and unhelpful. While I understand the contractual obligations of a rental agreement, I am deeply frustrated and disappointed with the representative at the Dollar counter in Milwaukee. At worst, she intentionally misled me; at best, she made a careless mistake that is costing me over $100 when you account for taxes and fees. This feels deceptive and I will not rent with them again. read more

Rental process went smoothly, no issues there, but if anything beyond that goes wrong, don't expect any help. Left a pair of expensive headphones (which I can admit was my own fault) on the passenger seat of the vehicle. I realized they were gone by the time I made to my gate. In the process of trying to get them back, got passed around to several different people, most telling me that that wasn't their job and to contact someone else. By the time I was able to file the report and follow up on it, they were long gone. I know exactly where I left them, and so the fact that they couldn't locate an item that had been right on the seat looks pretty suspicious. I hope the guy who cleaned out my car enjoys those headphones as much as I did. In the future, I'll just pay a bit more to use a better company. read more

The service during the rental experience was fine; however, the service we received afterward was absolutely horrific! I had to (unexpectedly) take a friend to the Chicago airport because she had a concussion and could not drive herself there. While there was an EZ Pass in the vehicle, it apparently didn't work, even though I had no problems going through the toll systems. I never received any notice for toll charges nor was I charged for tolls. As someone who does NOT reside in the area, I assumed all was good to go. Lo and behold, over a month later, I received a bill for $85 dollars in toll charges. $10 in tolls along with $75 of administrative charges ($15 per toll) as assigned by Dollar Car Rental. Calls to customer service revealed that the rental agency is an utter piece of crap and does not care about customers whatsoever. I do not, under any circumstances, recommend renting from this awful company. read more

Rental 12/30/2015-01/02/2016 Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money to avoid these people. I returned my keys to the night drop box on time and was suddenly charged $43.50 for an extra day. Wait it does not stop there, I was also charged for smoking in the car $100.00. Funny thing about that is I never have smoked a Cig in my life. Rented in advance on Expedia. Guy at counter wouldn't let us take the car with a drivers license and credit card and debit card and AAA card. Is telling us to show our at&t bill or cancel the reservation. Won't help us beyond that even though we had 3 forms of ID and the email confirmation from Expedia's. And it's Thanksgiving night. If you book on Expedia, make sure you show up with 2 forms of ID to pick up your rental. They do not honor the price Expedia promotes unless you do. They say they accept debit cards, but they'll make it as difficult as possible to rent with one. If you want to use credit, make sure it's a VISA or else they'll want to put a $350 hold on your card. Betty at this service desk was hostile, rude, and didn't explain any of these outrageous rules until she drew up the paperwork for us to sign. Overall a terrible experience, inefficient, with some of the worst customer service I've ever received. read more
