We had to go to the Hertz across the street to get our Dollar car where it took an additional hour in line. Rental clerk was barely paying attention and directed us to a car that did not exist, so had to come back and wait some more. Overall, do not use Dollar or Thrifty at this airport because it took us 2 hours to get a car. The car was reliable, clean and they charged $161 instead of $186 quoted by Expedia because we returned the car only 3 hours into the 3rd day, so that was a good return process. read more

THIS IS DIWN RIGHT THEFT! You will be caught; one way or another... I'd rate them a negative if it were available; so a lot will have to do! DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT rent from this company! I recently pickup a car that I rented via Booking.com. Total price $184 to Booking .com. I had a voucher to pick up the car which was pre-paid. I told the person behind the desk that I DID NOT need any add ons. He stated that he had to charge the card, but it would be returned when the vehicle was returned. What HE DID DO, which I clearly stated "NO" to, was he added the Loss Damage waiver @ 39.99 a day AND an additional Prem road Serv at 9.99 a day. (when did that become a thing?) If I rent your car and it breaks down, I expect you to pick it up and deliver another car. They added a few other fees that I did expect, taxes and airport fees. Total charged to my card was $542.00, $200 was a deposit that HAS NOT been returned even though it's been 10 days. I've been renting cars for 40 years and I have never had this experience before. THIS IS OUTRIGHT THEFT! I can't believe a company would have policies that allow for this. I WILL BE contacting the BBB, The state of Florida tourist bureau, the state of Florida DOJ. I made reservations with Booking.com for dollar car rentals in Syracuse, New York. When I arrive to the counter, the man at the counter told me he had not clocked in yet so I stepped away. Then he came back and told me he was ready. I gave him my information. He processed my paperwork and said it would be 30 to 45 minutes because they needed to get a car clean and ready to. Please have a seat. After 35 minutes I came to check on my car. There was another man at the counter that asked me if he could help me. I gave him my slip. He said well, I can't find that car. Then he went to the lady at the Hertz counter whispering and they both were looking at me then he came back and he said I don't have that car. We don't even have those cars that you reserved.. I told him I didn't care what kind of car as long as I could get he said OK. He came back with some keys and said all I have is SUVs and minivans. I said fine. I don't care what kind of I just need one then he said well you know I'm going to you. I said that's fine. I don't I don't care what kind of . He looked at me and said well then if you don't care, I'll just put these keys back and we will wait on this sedan that we don't have. I told him he could keep his car. Yeah. The line. The line is something to behold and pity those in it. I was in it. At least 40 people ahead of me. Another 100 behind me by the time I made it to the counter. The 2 attendants (yep, just 2) were able to service each party in just over 4 minutes. I waited in line for 84 minutes. Super friendly and efficient. Despite the queue, everyone actually took it in stride, politely making small talk or bantering with their neighbors and generally minding their manners. The front desk person was great. The lady when returning my car was not. I tried to email Dollar to let them know that there was a crack in the passenger side windshield that was not noticed after we left the dark garage when picking it up. I tried to send an email once noticed! the email was kicked back. upon returning the car, I mentioned it to the person that there was a crack in the windshield that was there when I rented it . I did not do it, she circles it with her little white grease pen m. I think OK she's gonna let them know. Then later I find out I am charged over $500 for that and trying to contact dollar to talk to a real person about this is impossible. This company is a scam!! We walked a long distance from the terminal to the Dollar Rental booth. Then we see a sign that says they're closed and we need to walk back where we came from to the Hertz booth. It would have been a lot more helpful if that sign was at the entrance of all the rental car companies instead of making people walk to the Dollar booth (which is literally the farthest away), just to find out they're closed. Before we returned the car, we filled the gas tank full from Sam's Club, which is 4.8 miles away from the airport. An employee checked the car, turned on the engine, told us everything is good, so we took off. Then I realize a week later they charged us about $23 more. I find out they added $2 here, $2 there, and then charged us a fueling charge, which this all makes the tax go up too. It's hard to get a hold of someone from their website and they make it like this so people don't call them. I finally find out that if you have any questions about fuel charges, I have to submit a receipt to Hertz.com. WHAT? So Dollar Rental purposely overcharges you, hopes you don't notice, and then makes you provide proof of where you got your gas. This is such a scam!! I've never had to deal with this with any other car rental company we have used before. I can see so many customers not noticing they are wrongly being charged $20 fuel fees. I used dollar rental car at the Nashville airport in October 2024. It is now March 2025 and I am still trying to get my $501 back that they overcharged me. I have submitted receipts of proof that my balance was $86 due upon drop off. When I dropped my car off it was just a couple young (looked like teenagers) taking the key fob and saying ok bye. No paper work, nothing to sign, just nothing at all. We have been unable to reach a live agent with Dollar and they are not replying to any written requests or inquiries to help me with this and used the online platform to submit this inquiry on 10/29/24 with no response at all. We don't know who else to contact and found your emails online especially with the fuel overcharge! We were fraudulently misled and overcharged and need this corrected immediately or will have to contact our credit card issuer for a fraud claim. We reserved our rental through AAA travel and secured a rate of $245.53 that included the following information: 4 days @ $44.77 per day for a total of $179.08. Airport Concession Recovery - $19.70 Contract Facility Charge - $18.00 Taxes $28.73 GRAND TOTAL $245.53 due at time of rental. HOWEVER we were charged $796.08 with charges that we did not approve or were miscommunicated to us. 1. Upgrade charge of $100. We only authorized an upgrade of $25 total, not $25 per day! The gentleman at the counter did not explain this and simply said "we will take care of you, don't worry - we're running a special. it's 60% total". 2. Damage waiver of $167.96 and Liability Insurance supplement $75.40. These charges were never approved. Since we booked through AAA we purchased their additional coverage from Allianz but in talking to the man at the Dollar/Hertz counter we agreed to the lowest tier car damage policy at $35.99 per day. That should result in a total of $143.96 ONLY. 3. Fuel charge of $102.55 - We were told the gas charge was $2.87 per gallon so this absolutely DOES NOT add up. Our car had less than a full tank when we got in and we returned it with 1/2 tank which I took a photo of for proof. This needs to be adjusted and credited. And the fuel charge should have been upfront not overcharged after the fact! 4. The concession fee recovery is $68.75, but it was supposed to be $19.70 as shown in the original reservation. The Tax amount is wrong because so many charges are wrong. This seems to be either a terrible mistake or direct fraud and needs to be corrected and credited right away. Even the space number they gave us to pick up the car was incorrect at the time of rental so it seems that there are some issues that need fixing at the location. read more

Reasons: *Had to wait three hours in an airport with three children just to get my rental because they had one person at the counter for Dollar and Hertz. *Gave me a car that had clearly been repaired *Car notification immediately said the tire pressure was off. I reserved a vehicle for $400, up front, with $218. due at the end of the week's rental. I declined all coverage and premium services when picking up the vehicle. This review is for the terminal location. The service center for Dollar Car Rental is very easy to find. Just follow the signs. Since it's a smallish airport, your walk will be minimal. Dollar, Hertz and Avis share the same agents and the same customer service line. My wait was short, but I'm sure that during peak times this could be VERY frustrating. After doing the paperwork, the real adventure begins. Navigating out of the airport is not overly difficult, but the current construction does throw you a curve ball and the directional signs are missing at some points. Or, I could have just been tired and looked past them. Staff member (yes only 1) was friendly and relatively efficient. I've experienced better and some far worse. Decent experience. read more

Huge language barrier and most agents are poorly trained or informed. The vehicles are often the cast offs from Hertz, then the vehicles stops at Thrifty (also owned by Hertz) and then to Dollar. If I could give this review 0 stars I would. The only thing positive was the car pick up. Pick up went smoothly. Car was fine. However, after I dropped the car off, within 15 mins they were charging my credit card an additional $375. This was on top of $221 paid when I rented the car thru Expedia and the $95 charge and the $280 deposit. They have taken almost $1000. The deposit still hasn't been returned. The $375 charge was for some bogus windshield repair. They don't have anyone to speak to when you call so I have to wait for them to respond to the message I sent. There was no explanation of what this windshield repair was. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the windshield or anything else when I returned the car. I will never again rent from Dollar and I strong urge everyone to rent elsewhere. This company does nothing but scam money. read more

I spent close to 2 hours in line where everyone had a reservation already and just needed to get their car assignment and go. When I finally got up there, they tried to overcharge my card by tricking me into buying additional insurance I didn't need. The only reason I caught it was because I set a very hard $500 limit on a credit card meant only for car rentals and the new price exceeded it. The price on my reservation was around $140 before the required $200 hold. It took another 10 minutes to redo the transaction to the correct price. I understand the need to meet sales goals but literally lying and tricking your customers is not the way to do it.. Now I can only imagine the line took so damn long because they lied to or overcharged everyone else in line. If you have to rent a cheap car, first rethink if you really need a car and can't use Ubers instead. I chose Dollar about 2 1/2 months ahead of my trip because they were THE most affordable. They also have city deals which are much lower than any travel site out there. I was able to reserve a midsize SUV for $19.89 a day. What a deal! I flew in and headed over to the counter about 50 minutes ahead of my scheduled time and took a seat. Watching the short line ahead of me, it was taking about 10-15 minutes for a person to be helped. Geez. I finally got in line and walked up to the counter. The agent was friendly and made some small talk while getting my rental agreement together. When done, I was informed that I had a hike to get to the actual cars. Thank god for the shuttles or I would have been exhausted. With a rental agreement in hand, you can just go to your car and drive to the exit. At the exit is when they tie the car to your agreement. I ended up with a 2017 Nissan Rogue in Electric Blue, my favorite color. I had no problems with it and returned it in 4 days. The return process was easy: just park it and the attendant will check the mileage and print you out a receipt on a handheld device. I told the rep that he should give me a free upgrade since the vehicle was not ready and he told me that I would need to pay $30 per day to get an upgrade. If the vehicle is not ready I should not need to pay a fee to upgrade since the vehicle was not ready yet. The rep had nothing but a rude & nasty attitude. The rep was radioing for a car but that took 30-40 mins to finally find me a car in my car class that I booked. The Rep should have just upgraded me so I could be on my way and not need to wait. I missed the plans I had to go to because of this wait. I will never rent with Dollar ever again. Oh by the way I know this is Dollar but you should also take the Hertz Gold Numbers since you are all the same company just a different name. I was flying into BNA from SEA. The flight comes into BNA at 11:59p every night! DOLLAR RENT A CAR failed to mention that is the same time that their car rental counter closes for the night. There was a sign that says "Go to the parking garage to see an attendant. After me with my special needs child (and 3 other couples) wandered the garage searching for an attendant we gave up and had to spend $100 Uber-ing to our hotel. The next morning I had to Uber back to the airport to get a car. They would not reimburse me for the day I lost or the cost of my Uber. So if you're flying from Seattle to Nashville you will not be able to rent a car until DOLLAR RENT A CAR fixes this problem. :( read more

Car was immediately defective- it dangerously overheated and the air conditioning failed. Roadside assistance told me to drive car back to pickup location- which was unsafe. I said no way - it would be foolish to drive it anywhere. They then towed it away. Dollar main number was totally unhelpful- they said I had to go back to counter in the airport to receive assistance - and wait another 2+ hours? And what type of help would I get? Who knows. The Dollar main service line also said I could call the pickup location counter - but refused to give me the telephone number. They said I could find it online - but the only number I found was the same main service line I had just called! Many similar reviews- I wish I had read them before I used Dollar. After arriving from Los Angeles and just wanting to pick up my rental car and get to my next destination, the representative at the front desk urged, confused, and convinced me to get the above mentioned. STRANDED From the way the employees acted, I think they are on a work slow dow-very close to a strike. each transaction took at least 10 minutes, and all of the information illicited was redundant to the reservation information. I was asked multiple times about upgrades and add ons. The counter person said they were out of my class of vehicle, heard her call to the garage to see if a a car was fixed. Finally received a car that had written on the window- "possible internal" and it broke down the next day after I drove to Huntsville. After hours of dealing with towing etc I was told at the Huntsville airport that Dollar rental would not provide me with another car since I booked through a third party (Priceline). Both Priceline and Dollar insists it's the other party's responsibility. I had to rent from another company with a 1 way drop off. Neither company will refund me nor pay for my new rental. read more
