Nobody at the supposed to be front desk inside the airport....a sign asking to go to another desk, Avis I think....but nobody and another sign asking to go outside the airport.....pretty far to find "Dollar car rental" kiosk with no protection of the customers while raining!!! Nasty not motivated girl at the front desk asked us more money that what were supposed to pay according my printed contract that I showed her....she simply did not care!!! We paid an extra $55 fees! Glad I took pics of our rental car BEFORE to start the engine. This car was showing scratching issues outside its back.... Went back to the kiosk girl who did not care and told me to show the problem to he kiosk at leave... Lazy girl at the second kiosk even did not check on the vehicle issue...she asked me to show her pics of the damage!!! Would strongly recommend to anyone do not do business with this place and if you do be extremely careful, taking pics of all the outside/inside vehicle before to take it......and to do picture when you return it with the full tank refilled to avoid any extra charge in the future! read more

I have reserved a vehicle to accommodate a group of 12 passengers for a planned trip. Upon arrival, I was provided with a minivan that could only seat approximately 6 people comfortably. This directly contradicted the purpose of the reservation. As a result, part of our group was unable to participate in a planned Disney trip, causing both financial loss and significant disruption to our travel plans. I contacted customer service to resolve the issue. While the company acknowledged the inconvenience, they only offered a $200 partial refund. This amount does not reflect the severity of the service failure or the impact it had on my group. I am requesting a full or substantially increased refund for the rental, as the vehicle provided did not meet the reservation requirements and rendered the service unusable for its intended purpose. read more

I have no issues with the car I reserved and drove while in VA. My issue is with the service of Dollar. When my family and I landed at the airport to pick up our rental, there was no one manning the dollar counter. And there was no sign directing anyone to head to another counter for assistance. I went to the hertz counter (hertz owns dollar) and a lady was able to assist me. I picked out my car quickly in a line of cars and was on my way. A few days later I arrived to return the car and there was no attendant in sight. There was a note at the Dollar area that read, write down the mileage on your rental agreement place it in an envelope (no envelopes available) with the keys and drop it in a box that was there. My boyfriend and I were just about to do so when an suv came barreling towards us at high speed. A guy hopped out and asked if we returned the keys yet. I said no, and asked him if he worked for Dollar. He said yes, and asked for the keys. I gave him the keys and he scanned the car and said I was all set. After I went through airport security and was settled, I saw a receipt from Dollar in my email. I checked the email and noticed I was charged a little over $13 for a gallon of gas. I did not select their gas option at the time of rental but I did return the car with a full tank. I have filed a dispute and they better be giving me my money back. The rep was VERY RUDE and once she refused my credit card and my debit card, i told her it wasnt online and if she was just going to rudely repeat that they dont accept my cards or help me and leave me stranded? Our flight was delayed 50 minutes. The Dollar Rental Car Counter at the Richmond Airport was closed. We had no recourse but to rent from a rental company that was open at 2.5 times what we PREPAID Dollar. We were denied a refund of the $250 we prepaid Dollar with NO SERVICES PROVIDED. When we returned to the airport 6 days later, their rental counter was still closed. I believe they are having serious staffing issues. Stay away from Dollar Car Rental. I booked a car with them for 5 days. I returned it 2 hours ahead of time. Due to the disorganized way of their work as already reported here by other people, it looks like they forgot to check me back in. They did that a day later. They charged me $50 in fees. I called several times, nobody picked up. Then I disputed the charge with my credit card bank. The investigation to reverse the charge has taken so much time from me and it's so frustrating. Got a good deal for a rental car out of RIC. No complaints, it worked as advertised. I am a Dollar Express member, which means that I get to bypass the counter and go straight out to the lot. The lot attendant was (as he put it) "covering for somebody" so it took him a little bit of extra time to get my car sorted and point me to it. Small garage with only a dozen or so cars here next to the airport. My one request, that I didn't care what car it was as long as it had "local" license plates, could be fulfilled. The Ford econocar (Festiva? Focus?) was clean with no overpowering smell of Febreeze, had low mileage, and had no damage. Virginia license plate. I'd recommend Dollar. They did well. read more

Dollar (and Hertz) Car Rental at Richmond International Airport, Virginia. I was charged for the fuel purchase option (FPO) unbeknownst to me as I was not offered the option to deny it. I did not sign any contract authorizing it. I gave the receptionist my credit card and he handed me a receipt that showed the FPO. When I informed him that I didn't want the FPO, he said he couldn't do anything about removing it from my receipt. I contested that it was selected without my knowledge and every staff member at that location said they could not do anything about it since they receive all government reservations with the FPO preselected.  I informed them that I did not select nor did I want the FPO. I was given the rental car with less than full gas tank. I returned the car with a full tank which was also verified by the Dollar Rental Car employee upon returning the car. It appears that upon receiving the final receipt even after the employee verified the gas tank was full, she was not honest in annotating it as such on the receipt. There are some apparent integrity issues at that location as well as illegal practices in the case of selecting the FPO without giving the customer (me) the option to decline it as it should be. Inspect the car before driving off the lot. The first one I was offered had undeniable and strong marijuana odor. Avoid paying penalties as this appears to be a very dishonest operation. read more

I had the worst car rental experience ever. I was given a 2020 kia Sorrento that had roaches in it. I saw the first one on the back seat and thought maybe it came in from outside when the door was open. But then 5 more surfaced from the backseat while I was driving. Terribly disgusting! This car was obviously not cleaned and inspected before renting it out. I was scared to lift the backseat up because I knew there were probably roaches and bugs all in there. This was such an inconvenience because I had to then drive this car all the way back to the airport and pay another set of tolls and waste gas just to get another car. I have traveled and rented cars many times in my life and I have never had an experience like this. The fact that I am owed a complete refund for this experience is obvious. Got to desk to pick up car, price increased by $200+ because the clerk said, with a careless attitude, that Priceline did not consider tax. Even though on the document from Priceline, tax was clearly noted. I asked if he felt that Dollar should be responsible for Priceline and he said no.....? Didn't have time to argue or any other options so got the van. Drove the Van home in preparation for 2 week vacation the next day. Back tires made noise all the way home (1 hour away from pickup) and van smelled terrible. Got home and noticed the tread was nearly gone on back tires. Called Dollar told them they rented an unsafe vehicle to me and I am not about to spend 2,500 miles with worn out tires. They said they could come pick up the van the next day and I would have to checkout another vehicle. Told them no, can't wait, drove back to pickup center (another hour), waited for 30 minutes and got another van (drove home another hour.. midnight at this time). After vacation, delivered van. After checking out noticed they charged me $43 for fill up when the tank was already full. This took 3 weeks to clear, showing them the receipt, etc.. I asked for an updated receipt to show the credit of the $43 and found a NEW charge of $27 for License Services. I can't tell who's running this company because you can't get anyone on the phone and all the clerks are rude. Will NOT go back to Dollar, they have taken too much of my time and made too many stupid mistakes. Poor service and risky inspections on vehicles! read more

Good part... they had to upgrade me at Pensacola Airport because they did not have the size I reserved. Bad part... there was no fluid in the windshield wipers. Worst part... I encountered $10.07 worth of tolls (8 of them) to return car to Tampa airport. Tolls were billed electronically. No real problem, I expected a bill for them or charged to account. HOWEVER, Dollar used a third party who sent me a bill for $89.99!!!!! Along with the $10.07 toll was a "Administrative Fee" of $9.99 per toll, a total of $79.92. Outrageous!!! Renter beware...there is no enhanced cleaning, just what the last party left for you to find! The gas tank was at a quarter tank without notation on the contract. Thank goodness I took a photo on the way out of the rental garage. I just can't believe that they would give a client during a pandemic a vehicle with soda bottles, trash and vomit without properly inspecting it. The company offered me a voucher for my troubles? MEH- There is NO EXPRESS service at this location. After you get your luggage, proceed to the rental counter (located near the escalators). After waiting you will proceed to the parking garage to get your car. As an Express member, I expect certain perks with my membership: Not waiting in line, going to garage booth and giving my information and going about my day. This location does not offer any exception to Express- every customer is treated equally, and will wait the same amount of time. Returning was no problem for me. I returned at 4pm and their was staff in the garage available to assist me. ***note, there are an abundance of gas stations near the facility and they are reasonably priced. read more

Booked through Priceline and prepaid. Nobody working at the counter so i had to go to the hertz line... Flew into Richmond intl airport and had a returning flight from Richmond intl. After standing in a line for over 50 minutes, i got to the front to be told i could not rent the car because i was using my bank card with a visa logo. I was THEN told that i could, but it would require $500 deposit AND a credit check. Needless to say after providing my ssn, my credit check was denied (with great credit and positive bank history) and i was denied my rental for which i already paid. I was essentially STRANDED with my children. No other rental company i have encountered has done this. Thank GOD for the lady at the Enterprise counter directly next to dollar/hertz overheard and advised i could rent from them with my bank card as long as i had a returning flight and the money to cover the rental. No deposit. Budget said the same thing as well. Needless to say i paid out or pocket to rent with Enterprise -- cutting my budget short for other things on my trip...still awaiting my refund from Dollar. read more

Rented a car from Dollar at RIC. The girl at the counter tried to charge us $500 for the extra coverage. That was more than the rental itself. Needless to say, we declined. Went to the deck to get the car and there was not a soul around to check us out, so we documented the existing damage and left. The car itself would have been great if everything had worked. The passenger's window and door controls did not work. (Yes I checked to make sure they weren't locked out.) NONE of the 12VDC plugs worked. Luckily the 120VAC outlet in the back worked so we bought an extension cord, ran it up to the front and charged our phones using our wall chargers. read more

I got a good deal on a one-way rental with Dollar, and even got an upgraded car for the trip since they were out of the mid-size cars I reserved. That was a bonus, but I'm still not happy. I rent cars fairly frequently and I know what I want and what I don't want. I DON'T want the optional Loss Damage Waiver, or any of the other optional coverages. Unfortunately the fast-talking guy behind the counter apparently misunderstood me and included the LDW, but no other coverages. I, in a hurry to get out the door, failed to catch it and discovered the error as I was turning the car in at my destination. When I contacted Dollar's customer service this was their answer: "Based on the agreement you have completed we will be unable to refund the optional coverage as you have requested." As I responded to the customer service contact, I appreciate their letting me know on this, my first rental, how Dollar treats its customers. They need not worry about being troubled with my business in the future. read more

Customer service was pretty good. Beware if you use a debit card you'll need two ids not just one and they run a credit check which is fine. I give this rental place two stars for the simple fact that the car ran well. Many dings in it which I'm concerned they'd charge me for so I took pictures with a date stamp. Also I got a kick out of how they say it had a clean certification placed in the car when the inside was gross. This concerned me as I was there for a wedding and business I didn't want my clothes to get mucked up. Upon return I had to stand in line 20 minutes just to give them the keys and get a receipt. They're cheap, but you get what you pay for. The car was fine, but the guy behind the counter was a bit of a dick and talked so fast you could barely understand what he was saying. I also didn't appreciate him alluding to the fact we had to pick one of their optional coverages. He was talking so fast, it wasn't until I had a minute to process everything and realize we'd been duped into opting in. I was able to get it removed before we were charged, but that's not really the point. Oh, and their rule that you have to provide a receipt from a gas station within 10 miles of the airport upon drop off is pretty craptacular. I got a decent car for (relatively) cheap, so I guess I shouldn't complain... but customer service is a big deal in, well, you know, a customer service industry. read more

I have rented cars from RIC and Dollar before in other cities, but my first and last time renting from Dollar period. I travel several times for work each month and was not told about the "gas receipt policy" upon signature. Perhaps it is because there was NO ONE at the counter when I arrived yesterday afternoon and NO ONE at the booth outside. The woman who checked me out didn't even tell me about the $13.99. Yes, that is TWICE that the fee was not addressed to me. I only found out because I asked why the total was higher and I know it was suppose to be $48. Now I have to contact the corporate offices to ask and hope that management will reimburse me for this disservice and lack of information. As a journalist and 10 year employee in the airline industry, I cannot recommend this company to my colleagues and peers. read more

The attendant told me to go to the upper level and my car would be in row C space 5. Finding the upper level was easy. Finding row C was difficult. Finding row D and row E was pretty easy. I had to use the cars panic button to find it. Post omg clear signs would probably made it easier to find the car. Sad. read more

For starters there was only 1 man working both the dollar and the thrifty counter so there was a long wait which is a little frustrating but the guy was super nice and apologized, but the most frustrating part was when I tried to pick up my car. There was no one in the dollar booth so I went to my car, no one greeted me and there was no one around so I figured maybe we do the inspection check when I leave the gate. There was no gate. I drove down the ramp and was about to get on the highway without really anyone knowing. I turned around and one of the drivers, who was every nice said to park and walk to the hertz gated area the guy will help me there. Went there, no one was in the booth, so I walked the whole way to the other end of the garage to where these two guys were chatting, didn't pay me any mind just kept chatting about not work things. I finally interjected and stated that I needed to speak with someone regarding the initial inspection of my car, I don't want there to be dents and me get chaarged for something I didn't do. So the one guy just started walking in the direction of the other booth, didn't say a word, so I followed. On the way he chatted with 3 workers, small talk not even work related. We then finally get to the booth and he hands me the paper and a pen. He never left the booth so I ended up filling out all the mileage, gas (which was not full, he stated unneeded to bring it back full anyway), license plate number, dents etc. I handed him the paper and he gave me a copy and I left, he didn't even look at the car. This was a 1.5 hour endeavor at a time that was not busy what so ever. When I dropped it off it was fine the girl was quick and nice. 2 stars just for the few nice staff I met. read more
