I have never thought "you get what you pay for" when buying Filipino food. I ordered the pork skewers (very small and think but tasty) and the chicken pan cut. The pancit had a strange taste, like packaged ramen-- I couldn't eat it. The pancit was flavorless.

The food was okay. The lumpio was a little dry which led it to being overcooked and the consistency of the noodles and the ponset were off. It felt as if it wasn't the right noodle. I also didn't like the barbecue sauce that was used on the chicken. That all being said it was a good value. Just not something I would go to on the regular. Others might think different but it just wasn't for me.

Dollar hits was recommended to us by a friend. Map took us around coz of the construction then it took us to a gas station and the mini mart. You will find the place inside in the right corner of the mini mart. The staff are very nice and accomodating. They get your order and quickly try to give you the order fast. They have a small grill and 3 staff that quickly prepares all food. We ordered beef shawarma, 2 entree of pork belly with rice and a bunch of different bbq and lumpia. It's so exciting to order coz it remind me of street food in the Philippines. . There is no seat nor table. Just pick up order. They are new but you can tell business is good. A few parking areas up front too. The food are delicious with authentic taste of The Philippines cuisine. The bbqs are aso tasty, authentic Filipino taste. Definitely coming back for sure.

Dollar Hits Filipino Grill is a textbook definition of a hole in the wall restaurant. It is literally tucked away in a gas station but it needs to shine. This small family owned business has something going on with their value offerings of Filipino cuisine. Now since it is a smaller operation and setup, it does not have the same variety as other bigger Filipino restaurant establishments in the area but it does not lack the flavor. I stopped in for some BBQ sticks and they are reasonably priced. I also noticed they had a full menu with pancit and items that are assumed to be made to order. They do not have much selection but I'm sure with time they will expand. I ordered the chicken and pork bbq sticks and it came out quickly. The meats were tender and marinated and the sauces of vinegar and chili sauce were a perfect match! I even placed an advance order for a future gathering due to the value of it. I will make sure to stop there every time I am in the area for some goodies. Please give it a shot everyone and give this small business a boost!

My favorite was the pork belly. The prices are unbelievable and the service was very friendly. I'm most definitely going back!!!

While there…read moreis no shortage of great filipino food in NYC, this place does something quite special which is hard to find - merging authentic filipino flavors in a well-crafted, delicious and new way. Everything I've had here is delicious, but here are some of my favorites: UBE BLONDIES *** Probably one of their most signature items that stays on the menu season to season, this crumbly, satisfyingly dense, soft baked good with that nice punch of ube flavor will really have you coming back for more. The frosting glaze is just perfect, adding that sweetness that carries the ube flavor really nicely. The texture is just soooo satisfying, you can just tell when you cut your fork through it that it has this airy, yet dense and crumbly texture. TURON FRITTER Kind of like an apple fritter, but oh so crumbly, delicious, bright, and soft on the inside. Also had their brown sugar boba pudding cup when it came out, and it was really good; the tapioca actually blended quite nicely and was chewy and fresh, which means you're not stuck chewing it forever. Definitely on the sweeter side, but brown sugar items tend to be that way.

Wish I didn't have to write a review like this BUT When a…read moreplace that serves Filipino food doesn't have the basic offerings like turon (fried bananas), you'd wonder why on a Saturday there's not a soul in this place. You'd have to ring a bell for someone to come out from the kitchen. Oh and not to mention where is the so-called Filipino hospitality? Aking mga kababayan? I am appalled by the fact that when they couldn't serve food that we wanted, the worker there chased after us when we left (ay naku!) and yelled "I tell you this - do not come and use our restroom)" there weren't signs anywhere... no wonder this restaurant is up for sale. In this world where anyone can choose to go to any place, you'd think that some hospitality is needed. Who knows having people come for any reason might actually result in some patronage.

The food is really good and the choice of selection, though small compared to other "turo turo" spots, it's still something you can choose from. I can get a little here and there from the owner about the food since she's a women of few words Hahaa LOL! But she does care about the quality of food she puts out. She said she cooks with virgin olive oil, including the fried stuff vs the yucky oils. That's a win for me! And she uses quality meat and ingredients. She cooks fresh everyday so no putting out old food from the day before. I think she's opening up to me y'all! Hahaa I just go in there and just give her a big smile and say I'm back! She chuckles...so don't be scared now and go try her out. LOL!

I love accidentally discovering new businesses! I visited JR Street Dining on accident just…read moreswinging by Smartmouth Pilot House for some "fast food" via food truck after work. They have only been operating for a month now, this was their third brewery appearance. For appetizers they have a buffalo chicken dip and pimento cheese nacho- talk about solid brewery apps! Most of their menu items are types of wraps. Their special was chicken fajita tacos (Cinco de Mayo celebration) and for dessert they had a crispy ice cream sandwich. One unique thing that I don't see many food trucks do, is they offer kids menu items as well! Again- it is just their third day- this could all be totally different once they are more established and have tried different things. I opted to get the ice cream sandwich, because I'm a total sucker for dessert. I ate this first. Two crispy shells with a cinnamon sugar mix and if I'm not wrong it possibly a second seasoning that had a little kick to it. Maybe it was a touch of cayenne? Definitely not strong or overpowering in spice, just a little something to make it interesting. In the middle was a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a scoop of chocolate ice cream. The vanilla was complimented by the cinnamon and the chocolate was complimented by whatever that other ingredient was. I was definitely a fan! The more I ate the more I wanted more! I also got the chicken fajita taco special. I should point out that if I didn't go for the food truck option at Smartmouth I was headed to my favorite taco spot in VB. Maybe it was the unintentional comparison of the authentic street taco from my favorite spot, but these tacos fell a little flat for me. Not letting it really affect my review, because I did eat dessert first and then I messed around taking pictures before getting to them. It might be a "it's not you, it's me" thing with the tacos- I'll own this one. The tacos were served with a side of corn on the cob. It had a lemon cilantro butter which was fantastic! I'll definitely be craving that corn again sometime! The prices were on the lower-side of average for the food truck scene in Hampton Roads. Prices are another thing that might change as they are in business longer. They were also extra friendly from the moment I stepped up to the truck! Offering me whatever I needed and even getting out of the truck to come ask me a question of convenience, not necessity. I know several spots that would have just shouted it or not even bothered. So far so good! I hope they keep popping up at Smartmouth VB so I can try more of their menu and see how they change things up as they get a few more months of operation behind them! I'll definitely be updating as I try more! Next time I'm definitely going for the pimento cheese nachos!

They didn't have a menu posted, so I was given one when I asked. The food is cafeteria style where your plate is made in front of you. They had several options like fish, pork belly, menudo, lumpia, pancit, rice, sisig, and etc. They also had desserts, chips, turon, and drinks. I chose menudo, pancit, pork belly, and lumpia with a side of sauce for about $15. The prices seemed pretty reasonable. The portions were decent also. The menudo was flavorful and filling the meat was tender but there were a few pieces with fat. The pancit was tasty. It wasn't heavy on vegetables, I wish there were more. The pork belly was crispy and I liked it, but a few pieces were over cooked and had an awkward burnt old flavor. I can't really explain it. But the taste caught me off guard. I enjoyed the lumpia. They had beef inside and went good with the sauce. Their sweet chili sauce is yellow, not like most that are orangeish red. But it was good. The staff was busy. They didn't really talk much, but were nice. They also have a banquet room for private events. I do like their Filipino food more than some other places in the area. Definitely check them out!!

The waitress who helped us was incredibly nice and took the time to answer all of my questions. Unfortunately, my excitement was cut short when I went to order the #6 breakfast special and found out the fried rice was pre-made with ham, and there was no option to get it without meat. Since the fried rice was out, I pivoted and ordered the #1 Special: 2 eggs (requested soft scrambled with cheese) 2 pieces of bacon (asked to hold the bacon) White toast Home fries Side order: Egg rolls to go The execution of breakfast was pretty disappointing. The eggs weren't soft scrambled, the cheese on top wasn't melted, and the home fries were very hard. To top it off, the whole plate came out at room temperature. I didn't make a fuss or send it back because it's a small, family-owned restaurant and they clearly have a lot of loyal regulars who love them. Overall Verdict: Breakfast Food: 5/10 Egg Rolls: 7/10 The service alone makes it worth giving them another shot.
