Since we moved to our…read morenew home, Carbon has hidden in the crawl space for months, till we got him out and checked up. Then he lived in the bathroom, on a pet warmer pad for hip pain. Then this spring he moved to a spot under the kitchen table, sulking every day. This not the cat that greeted us, when we got home, or meowed for pets, or to let me know the food bowl was empty, or needed fresh water. This was no life for my dear friend. My current vet had a change head Vet doctor. The feeling there was not the comfort I once knew, and if I had to put Carbon down, I needed a vet that understood quality of life issues for a cat. I know this will sound silly to many, but this is a life I assumed responsibility for. So I went to Yelp, and searched. I found a review from 2012. A total stranger praising an unknown vet with great personal care. I was short on money, and worry sick for my friend, so I called and explained my situation, and got an appointment. I and my 9 year old brought Carbon to a old looking building, I have driven by for decades and never noticed. The staff greeted me warmly, and placed us in a room. They have 7 in house cats that freely roam and visit with you, if they feel like it. This put me at ease, and calm my nerves. The junior Vet and been there for years, where the senior Vet I believe just celebrate a 70th birthday. We discussed my concerns, and agreed on lab work and treat for possible UTI. Finally I got to stay with my friend, during his lab work. My daughter went to play with the house cats. Signed a paper, that I agreed to pay the rest in full in 2 weeks. Well no improvement. Had another appointment, but just could not bring myself to cart with scared, big butt, with claws, sharp claws out for another visit. Carbon is quite sweet and a gentle giant. I met with the lady vet, and we discussed my concerns-no need for more testing, nor x-rays. I thought-well I will bring him back to say good bye. When this most brilliant of vets suggested anxiety/stress, and placed Carbon on an antidepressant. I am a RN, and this never crossed my mind. Well 2 months, and lucky to get a pill in every other day, Carbon is moving about the house, asking for pets, and following me. he has decamped for the bathroom once more. We could not me more delighted!!!! I highly recommend this little office, along a well traveled road in Hammond IN. Remember-do not judge a book by its cover. I left a vet office, with all the bells and whistles, and no appointments needed, for a place full of caring, and support. Thank you stranger, from 2012 for your Yelp review. This review reflects my experience during that visit and the aftermath. I want this on record because the clinic declined to meaningfully address it, and I believe incidents like this only escalate when no one speaks up. My dog, Chop, has been under the care of this veterinarian for years, and I've spent nearly a lot on his medical. I am deeply invested in his health, which makes the experience all the more shocking. 1. Confusion About Role During the Visit During my visit, technician Sarah Spadoni spoke in a way that led me to believe she was the actual vet. She referred to "her clients," provided medical guidance, and presented herself as the authority during the conversation. Because of this, for about a week afterward I believed she was the new veterinarian at the clinic. I later understood that she is a veterinary technician, which made the interaction confusing to me. Veterinary medicine has clear professional roles for a reason, and during this interaction those boundaries were not very clear from my perspective. During the same conversation she questioned where I obtain my dog's heartworm prevention and expressed concerns about medication obtained outside their clinic. In that discussion she said she believed the medication might not be legitimate and questioned whether obtaining it outside the clinic was legal. I left feeling that if I didn't buy his treatment from them specifically, it might somehow be less effective in preventing heartworm. She also asked about my home location and said she wanted to know the exact area where I live so she could inform her "other clients" to avoid walking in that area due to potential heartworm concerns. That request made me uncomfortable, as I don't want my location shared with others. Overall, the interaction left me confused and uneasy. 2. Medical Advice Later Contradicted Ms. Spadoni provided information that was later contradicted by a veterinarian. Being wrong is one thing; providing information with total certainty is another, especially when pet owners trust staff to know their limits. 3. Improper Handling and Interrogation At one point, my dog was held by staff while my mother and I were questioned as if we were being investigated. This was not standard communication or restraint. It felt improvised and unnecessarily adversarial. 4. Accusations from the Office Assistant When I attempted to address the situation with the office assistant, it escalated immediately. She accused me of negligence and of essentially causing my dog's past heartworm infection "on purpose," despite clear medical records, imaging, and years of documented care. She also made comments that left me with the impression that maybe my dog should be handled more roughly because he was "poorly behaved," something no licensed veterinarian has ever claimed about him. This level of escalation without listening is alarming, especially given my long-term commitment to this dog's care. Why I'm Writing This This review is not meant to start a debate. It is intended to establish a public, timestamped record of what occurred. If future clients report similar behavior, they can reference this documentation. Veterinary care requires competence, clarity, and appropriate boundaries between techs, managers, and veterinarians. Those boundaries were not upheld here, in my opinion. I am updating this review because new issues have come to light, and I believe it's important to have them documented for both myself and others. Let me also preface this by saying that I had no issues with Dr. Ferrell herself, as she has always seemed kind and considerate toward Chop. My concerns are specific to the behavior of the technicians and the office assistant. The day after the incident, the office assistant called my mother, apologized for how she and Ms. Spadoni handled the situation, and asked for Chop's care to resume. While I appreciate the acknowledgment of mistakes, we declined and chose to move to a new veterinarian. Months later, after repeated attempts to get us to return were declined, the clinic included commentary about our interaction in his medical records that I believe was inaccurate and did not reflect what occurred. I was concerned it could complicate his care with other providers. Thankfully, the new vet did not rely on those notes. These actions have raised serious concerns. I have contacted the Indiana Board of Veterinary Medicine and the BBB and am prepared to escalate further if necessary. We have now found a vet who specializes in Chop's breed. My dog has had a difficult life, and the last thing I would ever do is put him in the care of people who made his care more difficult than it needed to be.

Dr. Hernandez always remembers Corky, and tells us how happy Corky seems to be with us, and how Corky seems to be improving in our care over the last few years (his previous owner brought him here and we took in Corky at age 32.) She is personable and really informative about Corky's health issues, including addressing the aging process. She listens and addresses our concerns, and takes quality time. Every hospital, pet or human, has patients who don't make it through. I ordinarily take my cat to Premier in emergencies, but on Juneteenth they were overwhelmed and couldn't see me until later that night. They provided a list of other area emergency vets and Mokena was the nearest so I went straight there. They aren't 24 hours and it's a small place so upon arrival you have to call and they will put you in the queue. Wally was in pain and feeling poorly, so wasn't very cooperative, but they made it work and got blood for testing. Dr Soumar saw him for the exam and said the blood test revealed most likely he had pancreatitis. They sent everything to my awesome regular vet, who I was able to schedule with the next day. My vet did another test and agreed with the pancreatitis diagnosis. Wally was fine after a couple days of special care, feeding wet food with a kitten syringe to prevent dehydration and lipidosis. Everyone here was professional and thorough. Dr. Soumar was very kind and explained everything very thoroughly. I will probably continue going to Premier as they are much closer to me, 24 hours, and have a larger office, but I'd absolutely bring my pet back to Mokena when necessary!

I'm livid at his regular vet and decided to find a new vet. The er ran the tests that should have been done and diagnosed him diabetic. Got him started on medication and three shots in, he's returning to normal.
