After letting our experience from last night sit for a bit, we found our dissatisfaction with Domingo growing. First off, the good. The churros were warm, soft and tasty. The drinks were well constructed. The food we ordered was inoffensive, but not great. Also, our waitress was very friendly. Things really went wrong from the start. Finding the restaurant from the street can be a challenge, as you are supposed to enter a building with little signage. This is, perhaps, easier to understand from the riverwalk than the street. Upon taking the elevator ride down, we were greeted by the hostess stand. This is an awkward space because there is only one point of ingress and egress. Many people want to use this space because there will be people going to the restaurant, workers going up into the building and people coming in from the Riverwalk. It would be better to angle the stand differently and with smaller furniture to give more room for people to wait for the hostesses. On to the second point, the hostesses were friendly, but terrible. We arrived five minutes before our reservation time, gave them our name and they said we should be seated "shortly". As we chatted and waited for our table, a number of smaller groups (we were only four) came and were quickly seated. We also noted a number (at least six groups) of people walking in from the Riverwalk that were turned away, claiming that there were no tables available. After waiting 10 minutes, we asked the hostesses when our table would be ready. The hostess squinted and asked for our name, which we provided. She said it would be ready "shortly". After another five minutes, we asked again and got the same squint and were told "shortly". At this point, we were considering other options and thought we would give them five more minutes. During this time, another group of five people came down the elevator and were seated immediately. Very annoyed, we went back to the hostess stand, but the hostess had walked away, leaving the stand unattended. After a couple of minutes, the hostess returned and we told them what had happened. We had the same interaction where the hostess squinted and asked for our name. Only then, were we finally seated. We also noted that a couple with reservations also checked in right after us and were left waiting nearly as long as we were. They too, were only seated after pestering the hostesses several times. We started with an order of the cornbread, which was tasty and can be recommended. The grilled flat iron steak was chewy and meaty. For reasons we do not fully understand, we were informed the steaks would take 25 minutes to complete. The pork shoulder was there, neither good nor bad. The enchiladas had a good flavor but were overpowered by too much yogurt crema. It is also notable that two of our group had originally chosen the short rib, only to be informed that the short rib was not available because they had run out of the short rib. In an odd interaction, the waitress did offer the quesadilla short rib as an option. We thought it was odd, but not worth the back and forth of asking why that was available. Also, we believe the table next to us did order and were served short rib. As we wrapped up dinner, two of our group went to the bathrooms. They came back to tell us that of the four dedicated restrooms: two were locked (not occupied, just locked), one was missing a toilet seat, and the fourth had a door that would not easily open nor easily stay shut. Also, there were, apparently, roaches in the bathroom. Also, on the way out, we noted a number of empty tables on the outside patio area. Making the start of our time at the restaurant, all the much stranger. On a positive note, there was an adorable pigeon who wandered in to pick up some chips. In summary, only come to Domingo if you want to use the elevator to get up to the street. read more

We're visiting from Florida and staying near the Riverwalk. We were hungry and stumbled upon this place a little before 3 PM. It wasn't very busy, but we figured that was due to the time. We were informed the lunch menu had just ended, but there was a "bites" menu available from 3-5 PM. We had our little dog with us and were happy to hear the patio was dog-friendly, so we decided to stay. Unfortunately, the food options were very limited--only about six items--which was disappointing. No one offered a water bowl for our dog, which is something we're used to seeing at dog-friendly places. We ordered drinks and a hamburger patty for our pup while we debated what to do. The patty arrived in a to-go box, and when we asked for a dish or plate, we were told they didn't have any for dogs. That was a first for us--we've never been to a dog-friendly restaurant without basic accommodations like a water bowl or small plate. At that point, we decided to just finish our drinks and leave to find another restaurant with a more complete menu and friendlier service. Domingo was a great place to enjoy drinks and dinner with my friend from high school. We started at the bar and ended up at the patio restaurant overlooking the River in San Antonio. Food was below average. Baja fish taco lacked flavor. The baja sauce was almost non-existent. The taco was like having very small portions of salad with mini-sized baja strip on a mini taco shell. Side salad was was supposed to have cucumbers, but you could hardly taste the cucumbers because they were few and were cut so small. Not sure how a fine dinning location can mess up a simple salad. The best dish I ate at this restaurant was french fries. The service was not good given that the restaurant was not busy. The salad was brought to the table, but utensils were not provided. They did not notice that we were not provided utensils. It was about 7 minutes before we flagged a server passing by the table to ask for utensils. Then it took another 5 minutes for us to get utensils. Additionally, I ordered lemonade but it was never served. It felt that there was no reason to ask for the lemonade given the delay. Overall, it is not worth the money for small portions of food that would make you feel hungry. Fine dining does not mean that customers are served below average, overpriced food. Note: The review is not to admonish the servers. I noticed that the servers were working hard and pleasant. The restaurant may been understaffed at the time of my visit. This place was excellent! It is right on the water front, and it is such a beautiful location! It is very classy and I love that it is open air. We sat on the patio and it was a lovely evening with my friend Sofia! We each got a margarita, and they were delicious! They were very flavorful and delicious. The one downside was having to buy the chips and salsa- but it was worth it. They were great! We split the green chili chicken enchiladas for dinner, and they were delicious. Located on the Riverwalk, Domingo made for a relaxing experience after touring the area. The spacious bar has plenty of seating and goes from the comfortable patio to the high-ceilinged dining room and bar next to the large open doors, and a more intimate section of the bar in the back. Although the day we visited was hot, the bar stayed cool despite the doors. We only had beverages here but they were excellent. It's hard to go wrong with a passionfruit margarita served up by a cheerful and energetic bartender. I want to go back and sample the food menu. Recommended. read more

The location itself is right on the Riverwalk and the scenery around the outside patio is beautiful. I ordered the quesadilla, which was really good, but if I were to go there again, I would order an additional side. I would've left feeling a bit hungry, but I ordered a coffee which curbed my appetite. Be warned, there are many pigeons around that are very comfortable around people. They will come and sit at the table with you and will leave you alone for the most part. The second you leave, however, they will swarm for your scraps. Had a 10 minute wait at 7pm 12/8 even though there were several empty tables. Jem was our server and was attentive and accommodating. We ordered the Quesadillas, shrimp cocktail, Caesar salad, and elotes. Everything was delicious and temperature appropriate. Shocked that we were charged for chips and salsa. This is a restaurant with mostly Tex-Mex fare. Charging for chips and salsa should be a violation! Even if it is on the Riverwalk! Pretty surprised at all the 5 star reviews, maybe we came on off day, but I didn't have a 5 star experience here. The food was ok it was very average stuff that you've probably tasted before if you've had Tex Mex. I did enjoy the food even though it was a bit overpriced for what you got. What I was really surprised about was the service. We ordered an appetizer that we never got. We had to let the waitress know to take it off our bill which she was happy to do, It's just been a long time since someone has forgotten an entire meal in places I've eaten at. Then we were served the wrong tables food and they put it right in front of us and we almost touched it. Then when we said it wasn't ours they gave it to the next people, but if I was those people I wouldn't want to eat it. On my honeymoon, and stopped here for dinner based on the reviews. I honestly can't believe there are any that aren't five stars. The watermelon ceviche starter changed my life, making me wish I had just ordered a gallon bucket of it and forewent dinner altogether. That is, until dinner arrived-my wife had a wagyu burger that was cooked to perfection and I, the green chile and chicken enchiladas with an old fashioned made with mezcal instead of whiskey as a side. My taste buds were dancing the entire meal, confused as to which flavor they wanted to focus on as they bounced between the enchiladas to the short rib quesadilla to the ceviche and back around again. Our waiter was very friendly and definitely knew what to recommend, as we took hoods suggestions and ended up with a perfect dinner. The music was just loud enough to create a mood and drown out the other sounds, but not so loud that my date and I had to raise our voices-and all to a pretty epic playlist of instrumental/electrical music with a bass that kept the energy up but wasn't overpowering. To sum up,I'd come here for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I could and ask for Steven as our waiter every time. Every time I visit San Antonio, l I'll be sure to stop off here. He advised they contacted me in error because my table was still not available, Needless to say we left after Cameron advised our reservation was not for 15 more minutes. The exit is at the riverwalk. We came in for dinner and it was VERY busy. It's pretty loud inside as well. We didn't have reservations but luckily, we didn't have to wait too long. I'm from Miami and the restaurant gave me Brickell vibes. The restaurant is beautiful!!! Upon arrival we had to wait 30 minutes for a table, we later found out you can make reservations on Open table so if you can do so. The service was quick!! Food was a bit expensive but you are paying for location. You're eating right on the river and next door there is a tavern. The shrimp cocktail was a bit spicy, and I like spicy. The Baja tacos were yumm as well but the best was the quesadillas. I definitely and highly recommend the quesadillas. Plates aren't too big, I don't believe they are sharable sizes. We sat outside - as one can imagine it was hot and humid. We were both sweating under the covered area of the restaurant whereas there was a nice breeze closer to the river. We asked to sit outside which was partly cover which was good because it had rained earlier that morning. The atmosphere was relaxed but sophisticated. All the staff was friendly. We got coffee and tea to drink. My dad had the breakfast burrito which he said was okay but pretty typical for a breakfast burrito. My mom got the short rib quesadilla and she said it was good because there was a lot of meat inside which isn't typical for quesadillas she finds. While both appetizers were great, I'd highly recommend the Elote street corn if you only have room for one. It was bursting with flavor and I love how beautifully it was presented. Domingo is the restaurant located on the first floor of Canopy hotel. Stumbled here on a whim as Otro (bar located upstairs does not offer happy hour). This place has lots of seating inside and outside. Pretty outside views with great bar that does offer happy hour from 3-5pm. Crafts are $5 and cocktails are $6. Bartender was attentive and pleasant. There were some pigeons outside casually strolling around so if you're scared of birds, just be mindful of what's around you. I would come back and make a reservation and try the food next time. I came here with an empty stomach, so went straight for their brunch options. Many recommended the Green Chile & Chicken Enchiladas, which I ended up ordering. I personally is not a big fan of cheese but a lover of veggies, so I asked the server if they can opt in more veggies for less cheese, they agreed to give it a try. I also ordered a cup of latte, to warm up in this chilly weather; it was tasty, but a bit pricy for $6. Overall I loved the enchiladas, well made and seasoned. Service was not too slow. One note is be careful of the pigeons here they are very comfortable with people and some may land straight on your table to steal a bite.
