Finally had the chance to try their famous tacos. I came here on a whim once during a weekday but they were closed because I didn't realize they only open for dinner. So the next time we were craving for tacos, I made sure I got here right at 5 on the dot since other reviews said it can get pretty busy and for our family of 4 we had a pretty big order. We didn't dine in, so this review is for our take out order. Walking in, we were greeted by this sweet lady. She took our order and offered us water while we waited. It took about 20 min until it was ready. As soon as I got home, everyone sat down to enjoy the tacos which were all very good! We had a variety of different meats -- carne asada, al pastor, and carnitas. They were all very flavorful and filling, each taco had more meat than most places serve. Out of them all, the al pastor was the best in my opinion since I love the combination of sweet and savory with the pineapple. I guess I can see why people rave about this place. We have never been here but found them on Yelp as hubby had a craving for Mexican food. We had an order delivered last night and the shrimp burritos were fabulous! Came with some spicy green sauce and what seemed like a blended Pico de Gallo. Both were good. Only gave them 4 stars as the burritos had strong onions (next time we'll see if we can order them without) and the chips/guacamole didn't have salt. Will 100% order from here again. read more

My wife convinced me to come here so we try Don Asado for the first time. We actually ordered off their happy hour menu and were pleased with the prices and the selection. We ordered three pork Carnita tacos and a chicken taco plate I had a margarita my wife had a Corona. The margarita is top shelf I'm a big fan of margaritas was excellent. The pork Carnitas tacos were filling and excellent as well as the chicken taco platter. We told the owner we will be back and have something different like their Carne Asada. I asked the owner if he marinated the meat he said yes for two days then I asked him what he marinated it in it was broken Spanish but it sounded really good. That's gonna be her next item we ordered, but after reading everybody else's it sounds like the Al Pastor is the thing to have. So we'll be going back soon another margarita plus another awesome dinner! read more

Pastor and Asada tacos were pretty good. Red hot sauce is a killer (didn't had that typical salsa taste was quite different and good). I didn't like fish tacos that much.. Shrimp burrito was flavourful. We found pork chilli verde to be bit salty. This is one of quality spots in aloha area which deserves support. read more

We've eaten at this place several times before the pandemic. Two nights ago we ordered takeout from Don Asado. The food was prepared as I waited. It was fantastic. There was only one person working, I didn't get his name but he did a great job. I don't know what else to say. Get out there and support these independent small local places. Wish the salsa/taco sauce was better. That's the only thing I got on the negative side. Positive side, Al pastor is great, but be warned it is in the sweet side. Chicken is probably the second best. I have been eyeing Don Asado for longer than I'm willing to admit. A tiny, somewhat nondescript building in Aloha ( it has housed all kinds of food places including a beignet place and a fancy deli)it is not far from my friend's salon,but the timing was never right to stop in. They're open Thursday-Sunday, and I could never manage lunch or dinner. My life is complicated. When a big sign went up about "now serving breakfast" I knew I could manage that. So at around 10:30am on a Sunday I dragged in a hungry friend. There are about eight or ten tables. Only one other table was occupied. There was one friendly man running the show. He took our order, cooked our food, and waited on us until help arrived a bit later. Omhg the food. Most of the breakfast items are wonderful Mexican breafast standbys. My chilaquiles verdes was so good: tender tortillas, perfect green chile sauce, expertly cooked eggs,extra delicious smoky carnitas, tasty beans and rice. Really really good stuff. And a lot of it. My dining companion had a farmer's scramble with savory spicy chorizo, chiles, eggs, lovely potatoes, and cheese. It came with rice, beans, and warm corn tortillas. It was freaking delicious. The coffee was good. We had to find the sugar (on the counter) while our food was being prepared, but we didn't mind. I wasn't really excited that the only cream offering was nondairy french vanilla creamer in little cups, I would be happier with half and half, but that is literally our only complaint. Breakfast was utterly reasonable, under $20, and I like the homey small town feel of it. It totally reminded me of little places in Arizona, where I grew up.I am willing to put up with small issues for those big tastes of home. And in case you missed it, the food is REALLY good. Loaded with complex flavors, the sauces and salsas ( especially the creamy green jalapeno salsa) are all spot on. I will go back. No more excuses for passing Don Asado by. read more

Wow, amazing Mexican food of tex-mex variety. They make their own homemade chips and salsa, which are always great. Prices are a tad high, but everything is homemade from scratch and portions are big. Place is tiny and only has as about 10 tables, and when COVID wasn't an issue, place always was full, so come early. I believe DS has been doing take away for the most part. We tried this place on a whim, it's been many other restaurants/coffee shops in the past I've been told. When you first walk in you notice the decorations hanging overhead and the warm atmosphere. They have old authentic Mexican music playing in the background to add to the ambiance and a selection of lemonades ready to be poured on the counter. The menu is riddled with spelling errors and bad grammar but it adds to the authenticity and charm in my opinion. You have to buy chips and salsa (they don't come free like in some places) but the chips are home made so $2 for them is a good deal. The lunch specials are about $10 and come on huge plates, I could only eat half my food. I'm a weenie when it comes to spicy food- so my mouth was on fire. My husband didn't taste anything spicy on his food so if you're tolerant to hot spices you'll be fine. Grab an authentic glass bottle coke to top off the meal. This place was nice, we'll be back. Fresh ingredients! sautéed flavor of the veggies was good. Shredded lettuce wasn't old or watery. The sweet onions and green peppers makes a difference. I found this place on Yelp when I was craving Mexican food and wanted to try a new restaurant in the area. It's easy to find and they have a small parking lot adjacent to the restaurant. It's pretty small, but take-out is also an option as I saw some customers drop by just to pick up their food to go. My overall experience wasn't anything extraordinary, but it wasn't bad either. I tried chicken enchiladas as well as the steak & pastor tacos. Those pastor tacos deserve 5 stars easily! The meat was so flavorful and delicious. Everything else was just okay. I just received my dinner from Don Asado. Delicious! Highly recommend! I ordered street tacos. Two asada and two al pastor. Both are delicious. Garnished with slightly grilled onion, cilantro and lime. The al pastor tacos also have a surprisingly delicious ingredient of sliced pineapple. In addition, I ordered chips and salsa. The chips are obviously home made. If you have ever dined at Nuestra Cocina, you know what I mean. Substantive, hearty, delicious! The accompanying salsa was not the norm. It seems to be a blend of roasted peppers, fresh tomatoes, onions and more. I think It is my favorite "salsa" on record! In addition, My food was delivered while still hot! This was the bomb!! I have been eyeing this place for over a year, but for whatever reason we would forget about it on the occasion that we would go out to eat. But the wait is no longer and I am sorry it took this long. We both picked a couple of burritos with Al pastor and a couple of street tacos just to try a few things we got the kids a burrito bowl. There was a small mix up on whose food was whose but ultimately it didn't matter as I liked what she ordered and she liked what I ordered. The kids loves his bowl but we had to put it in a tortilla because mom and dad had tortillas. Oh and as stated by almost everyone who has posted the Al Pastor, yeah its kind of excellent!! read more

This place was really good. I loved this lil spot. We discovered it while driving out to Aloha to move some furniture for a friend. We came on a Sunday early evening with 3 children. We sat out on the front patio since kids needed to be able to be a lil noisy and move around. They had all sorts of drinks like Strawberry Horchata, Strawberry Lemonade and many other choices. All with free refills. I ordered the 2 steak and 2 pastor tacos. Great price and great food. The tacos are tiny but mighty! The only thing that was a drawback and I knocked off a star was that there was only 1 lady working waiting on all the tables there and 2 cooks in the back. So the food came out randomly and not together. Like we ordered beans and rice....the rice came out and the kids devoured it before the beans made it out. She was also so busy that some of our order was wrong. We specifically asked for no sour cream or cheese on the tamale dish because 2 of the kids are allergic to dairy and they came out with both sour cream and cheese. We just scraped it off. Other than those small mix ups, the food was fantastic. Just hope they get some help. My hubs was happy he found a spot to eat lunch at now when he is working in the area. Excellent food in abundant amounts! The Al Pastor items from this place are simply done right and the red sauce is so dang good I always try and get a few extra. If you have small children there are plenty of Nacho / Quesadilla type items they can munch on (but unless they're used to it, beware of that hot sauce!) Like other reviewers, I could offer my Southern Californian origins as "credentials" for being able to judge (Americanized) Mexican food but you should just try this place. They're pretty fast and I can confidently say they would be doing great business if it were located anywhere in S. CA. The inside isn't much to look at but it feels exactly like walking into a restaurant in Ventura or Santa Monica so it's very "appropriate." While the food itself is like 17 stars, overall I give them 4 stars instead of 5 because they REALLY need to improve customer communication. Their take out order system is chaotic. No order numbers, no verification of customers' names, no verifying items in orders etc. Each time I've gone there the guy just plops down a brown bag in front of me and waits to be paid. I don't buy any "language barrier" excuses, I learned to speak 2 foreign languages. If you can open / manage a restaurant, it shouldn't be hard to learn a few polite canned phrases and implement some business processes to help customers feel at ease. read more

Fun little restaurant with some solid food. Ordered the street taco plate with two steak/two al pastor tacos ($6.95) and they were some of the best tacos we've had in Portland. Flavorful meats and generously portioned, they're definitely comparable to the ones we've had in LA. Also ordered the al pastor burrito ($9.00+)-which did not disappoint. The tortilla was the perfect consistency and the al pastor was AMAZINGLY FLAVORFUL. So good. Although slightly pricier than its competitors, everything we had was delicious so it was well worth it. Cool little local spot with good Mexican food. I was visiting a friend and being from Cali, we have a ton of good authentic Mexican food so I was a little nervous, but the tacos were soooo tasty! We had chicken and carne asada and they were great. I also looooved the salsas! I couldn't believe how much flavor the green salsa specifically had.
