I have lived San Diego my entire life, and have eaten at several Taquieras, Don Bravos fish tacos are simply the best in San Diego

Very disappointing... I was starving and still thought the food was underwhelming. I got 4 street tacos and thought the prices are high for the size and flavor of the tacos. I know street tacos are small, but these feel even smaller than ones from other restaurants, and not a lot of meat. The tacos are $2.99 a piece, carne asada was $3.50 a piece. The carne asada and the adobada both were very dry. The fish taco had better flavor but it was a lot of batter and not a lot of fish. The outdoor seating was nice, especially on a beautiful day like today. The service was nice and friendly. However, food and value was disappointing. read more

I was on an afternoon walk with my friend and we stopped to grab a quick bite to eat at the beach. I wasn't impressed with the tacos honestly. I ordered a birria and fish taco. They were just OK. Hands down my favorite fish taco! Any time I am around the area I make a stop here. Very fresh and constantly amazing. Never a long wait and I love the outdoor patio view. Will always recommend them to anyone that I can. We usually get the potato rolled tacos as well. They are delicious. read more

I only get one thing here and one thing only: California burrito It's big, it smacks, and it is always dependable. Big fan of the salsa bar, the salsa verde is superior. Food always comes out fairly fast depending on the time of day you go. Expect a line if you go during lunch or dinner but it goes by fast. They also have the cutest back patio where you can view the ocean (kind of). Love walking here with my friends, a bird rock staple. read more

Tried a few street tacos. Carnitas and also fried fish. Fish was better. Carnitas were a bit dry. Tortillas (corn) were good. Thick enough that you only needed one per taco. Best thing was the price. Street tacos were $3 each. My girlfriend got a two taco platter. $8 for two. Both reasonably priced. Her grilled Mahi Mahi were better than either of mine. read more

over priced for the small portions, not very friendly and when you try to order over the phone they make you 5-10 minutes on hold.

A woman at this place took my order, and she was pretty rude the entire time. Big lack of customer service skills, and snarked when I asked a simple question about the menu. While I was waiting for my order, I watched her stick her hands in the big container of chips and eat them behind the counter. These are the same chips that are clearly bagged and prepared for customers to eat. The uncleanliness was very disturbing. After eating multiple chips she proceeded to handle the food in my order without changing gloves or washing her hands. Gross. read more

This place was surprisingly good. Stopped at the taco truck outside of the restaurant and got 1 Birria taco and 1 octopus taco- they were both delicious! The meats were well cooked and seasoned, vegetable toppings were very fresh, and the salsas were very very yummy. Unfortunately the truck outside can only do the fried fish taco, not baked fish, which was a bummer but otherwise the truck has decent options including ceviche and burritos. The rice was very authentic, reminded me of my Grandmas. Don Bravo has their own parking lot and an amazing ocean view just a block down the street. I think their shrimp burrito is one of the best meals I've had in SD so far. I wasn't super excited about the price at first, but it lasted me 2 meals and was just so flavorful beyond anything I've ever had so I'm already wondering when the next time I can go back is. The service was alright, just quick interactions. They aren't overly warm/friendly but they got me what I wanted! It looks quite unassuming from the outside, casual ambiance, has an ocsa view if you're able to get a table in the back patio. I was a little confused about why I was charged the same price (I paid cash) as a friend who paid with credit card despite there being a sign that credit card purchases receive a 4% surcharge. I am in La Jolla on business about once a month and I Love this place so much... used to always get the Lobster Burrito which is now discontinued so I now get the shrimp! We stumbled upon this Mexican restaurant after surfing in nearby Tourmaline beach. Decided to give it a try because their tacos are advertised to be around $2.50/piece only to find out it's going to be for small street tacos. We ended up getting the normal size ones, one battered fish taco and an adobada. The fish taco for $3 was huge and the fish was golden crispy and delicious! I like how they served it in a corn tortilla as I think most places in SD use flour. The adobada taco meanwhile came out to about $5.50 which is so overpriced considering there's nothing out of ordinary about it. I love Mexican food and have been going to Don Bravo's for years. I really want to be fair but the food was just not good this time. I was hungry and ate it but felt bad afterwards. It's 12:30 am while I'm writing this review because the food did not agree with me. Chili Relleno I ordered was nothing like I've had before and not in a good way. Part of it was so hard I couldn't cut it with a knife and other parts the bread around the chili tasted off. The cheese enchilada was just ok. My friend wanted a piña colada from here and we decided to stop by for that and a couple of food for the beach which was not too short of a drive away. You can get a great view of the ocean dining out on the patio! The inside is very casual as if you were eating at home. The place had some cool piñatas hung around the shop which was a cute touch. I didn't know what to order but they had two signs that indicated their fish tacos were one of the best things to get, so I opted for one. They have a nice selection of hot sauces in which you get your containers when you receive your order. They were pretty generous with the toppings from the bar as I saw jalapeños, diced onions, and limes. I liked the chipotle sauce the best! It was flavorful with my fish taco. My friend ordered their carne asada fries and they were pretty standard as the fries weren't as crispy as I've had compared to other carne asada fries. ordered a Barria - 20 to close - an item on their lunch cart. after dicouraging me from ordering - was forced to pick something else. chose a chicken burrito & went there 10 til 9. asked for extra guac - but saw the young lady charged $9.99 - said forget it & she offered the "side guac for $2" yelled something in Spanish - heard Guac & American". came home - was definitely charged the extra $2 - and no guac. Terrible customer service. Also, they secretly charge your credit card extra just for using it. They say the credit card company charges customers, but that's not true. It's the restaurant that charges. Even if your total is $50, they still secretly charge you. This is not allowed, and I'll be reporting them to the credit card companies. Management: Work on training your staff to be nice and respectful, and don't rip off customers by adding fees to the credit card transaction. Won't be returning. read more

This place definitely deserves a rating in the 4's. I came in for a taco and the guy behind the counter was very friendly. The salsa bar is great, with at least 4 salsas, jalapeños, limes and cilantro. I ordered a surf & turf taco ($6.50) and it was tasty. I liked the corn tortilla. The view of bird rock is nice too. Uhmphhh so I heard that this place was known for their "lobster" burrito so I got it to go. It took them about 20' for to make to go. When I arrived the pick up guy was weirdo, there were two lines order and pick up order lines... so I head to pick up line to pick up my order and he said go wait in line?!!! And then he called me back up a second later... wtf?! Also they give you two containers for sauce abs when you ask for extra container for sauce he looked annoyed.. Came in here with a friend tonight for taco Tuesday which is advertised as: "2.49 Fish Tacos, $3.49 carne Asada tacos" After we ordered and looked at our receipt we realized we had been charged the regular price, not the taco Tuesday price. So I asked the cashier and manager (?) man in his late 20's, not sure his name, why we were charged the regular price? The cashier and manager didn't really have an answer and asked me what the taco Tuesday prices are ?? Shouldn't you know that? He didn't apologize so I asked if instead of refunding us we could get a drink and he said no because that's not the same and then tried to have me pay the difference for the drink. I said no it's fine I'm just trying to make it easy and you don't have to refund two tickets. He said no that's harder and it's not the same so I said fine refund us, he refunded us the wrong amount and refunded my friend's purchase to the wrong credit card. I went up after we grabbed our food and said "look you messed up twice and he said no that's your card" the card DOES NOT MATCH but he kept insisting we're wrong and said "Fine what do you want? A drink? What??" He grabbed two cups and slammed them down in front of us. It was so aggressive and rude, I told them they have shitty customer service and I meant it.
