It is advertised on their menu that it comes with rice, beans, tortillas and salad for $15.99, however My order didn't come with any additional toritillas except for what was already on the taco. The inside is nothing to write home about. Very rudimentary. They were stapling the vinyl tablecloth to the tables when I was there. Staff is a bit uncaring about getting in the way. Not the most attentive folks. Both times I was there the condiment bar cilantro and mild salsa was nearly empty. They did refill it upon request. I definitely would not go here for the service or atmosphere, but there were several groups outside having a great time. The food was very good. My burrito was delicious!! So were my tacos. My wife also enjoyed her tacos. Chips and salsa were also good. There's better Mexican food in San Diego, but there's something very fun & charming about this place. I love coming to don bravo but had a bad experience today. I called my order in advance and still had to wait almost 30 min to pay for my food even though it was ready when I arrived. Don Bravos was nearby when I was driving through the Bird Rock area so I stopped in to get some food. I love the fact that they have a small dedicated parking lot behind the building. The reviews for this place seem to be quite polar, but I did read that their fish tacos were a pretty good product. They were only allowing one customer inside at a time to order during my visit. The smoked fish, octopus, and deep fried fish were my choices of tacos. They were each full size and took about 10 minutes to prepare. By far the best of the bunch was the deep fried fish. The filet was crisped nicely. The smoked fish was way too salty. I don't know if they brined the fish too long, but it was borderline unpalatable. The octopus was okay as nothing really stood out. What I did notice on one of the tortillas was some mold specks. The kitchen needs to do a better quality check of their ingredients before serving them. The deep fried fish taco was the saving grace for my rating of this Mexican joint. It would have been less than three stars without that item. read more

The food inside the restaurant I have never liked. I find myself disappointed by it any time I try it. The hidden gem here is the Birria Truck in back. The tortillas are fresh. The Birria is fire. And frankly it's the best tacos I've had in San Diego. Or at least it's up there! Move over Tacos El Gordo. The service at the truck is excellent. Inside they can be a little overwhelmed or forgetful but I only really go inside to get a margarita. The ambiance on the back deck is great because you have a clear view of the ocean. During the lunch this place has long line, but don't worry because they have long menu to read by the time your turn to order, you'll find something that you like. I thought the service was excellent. No this is not a restaurant where there is a wait staff, but the guys working were very friendly and we had a great casual conversation while ordering. I had a question about ingredients and they made sure to let me know exactly which dishes I should avoid. The quality of food was great!!! There's plenty of seating inside as well as a few barstool type seats outside. There is a parking lot which is a huge help on a busy day in La Jolla! When were able to get out more, you should definitely try it. I'm not sure about whether or not they are open during this pandemic or not. I'll have to go back and find my pics from this day. What an absolute disappointment. I've been coming to Don Bravo for over ten years and I have recommended them to more people than I can count. Unfortunately, I won't be eating here ever again. First off, the wait time was disgusting. We arrived around 630pm this evening and ordered two burritos and two fish tacos. Waiting in line took about 10-15 minutes, and our food was delivered to us 50+ minutes later (based on the time on our receipt). In addition, they only called about 6-8 other orders in the 50 minutes we were there, so it's not like they were slammed. I could completely overlook the wait time though, if the food was any good. But it isn't. In fact, the food here is among the worst Mexican food I've ever had in San Diego. The salsa is bland, not even mildly spicy, and tastes like it came out of a giant plastic bag. The fish tacos, which Don Bravos used to be known for, were easily the worst I've had in years. The fish had zero flavor, was way over-breaded, and the sauces/etc on the taco were bland and didn't compliment each other at all. I didn't even eat the second taco -- that's how bad it was. The California burrito was easily the worst California burrito I've had in years. The tortilla was ok, but the carne asada was bland (noticing a theme?), dry, and tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. The guacamole was also flavorless, and the French fries were not good either -- and there was also way too many French fries and not nearly enough meat, cheese, or guacamole. This place used to be a phenomenal spot with an incredible view of the ocean. They still have the view, but everything else about this place has gone to s**t. What an absolute shame, but this place is a 0 out of 10. Not worth coming to for any reason. Also, they now charge a 3.5% credit card surcharge (which means they are profiting off credit card surcharges, since most vendors pay 2.5% to 3%, and they charge $5 for stale chips and salsa (this used to be free). The owners of this place should be ashamed of themselves. I hope they get their act together and start making food like they used to, or make room for someone else who will. read more

No frills Mexican restaurant. Coming from NYC, we always enjoy good authentic SoCal Mexican food whenever we visit. Not sure if it's the ingredients or the spices but the burritos here just taste better. Small store with a counter top and a few small tables. We ordered the carnitas burrito and the surf and turf burrito. Both were excellent - meats are nice and moist while the tortilla is nice and chewy (no soggy tortillas here). Best part about this place is the fresh all you can eat salsa bar - salsa verde, habinaro chile salsa, spicy red salsa, and regular fresh tomato salsa. We have been coming here for the last three years. We love it and definitely will come back when we are back next in SD. read more

So I came here for the first time. A friend of mine recommended it because we had talked about the lobster burrito. I was excited when she took us, but they had ran out of the lobster meat. That tells you one thing: lobster is popular. Although I wasn't too bummed, they had other seafood items that were being offered. I saw that one was Calamari, which I also like. I had ordered two regular tacos with Calamari. They give you two options of a small street taco tortilla or the regular tacos which were bigger, so you know I had to go bigger. The tacos came with mild pico de Gallo salsa, & shredded mixed cheese, with your choice of meat that is. It's a generous amount. I was so full after that it got the spot. The tacos were around $3 something because seafood is always pricier but well worth it. It gets packed fast around lunch time and parking can be tricky, so be patient. I really can't believe this place only has 3.5 stars and so many bad reviews, if you don't like this place because of a) price, then you're an idiot, a $2.50 fish taco and $8 for a massive ass California burrito is not overpriced, I mean really, or b) because you got bad service, well maybe you suck for some reason and are a real asshole so people are generally rude to you because I went with a decently large group and we all ordered different stuff and got great service, or c) you think you should get free chips for some reason well that's on you for wanting free shit from a business that's trying to make money which last I checked is somewhat the goal when owning said business, or lastly d) you think the fish taco doesn't have much flavor, see a, b and c above and also no one can help you actually enjoy good food so you should probably stick to Chipotle. The fish taco here is really a thing of beauty, it's a very large piece of fried fish (for $2.50), with a delightful crema sauce on top with a few veg additions all in a solid corn tortilla. It's an incredibly good taco, everything is in a great proportion on it and nothing is out of place.
