I can't believe I have took this long to review this place. Side note business changed name to Ariel's, but same great burritos. Love a bean rice and cheese or California burrito from here. I minus the guacamole so I can eat the left overs later. Service is quick and super friendly. The location is right in between 711 and a Thai food place. So if you wanna get super custom you can get burrito from here and boba next door. And who knows maybe a water from 711. But inside is super traditional taco joint style. read more

Honestly this is just your average Mexican food shop. Its about a 10 minute walk from where I work in PB and it wasn't very crowded so we easily got a table for the 4 of us. They usually have A mini taco order of 4 that's pretty cheap as well as a rolled taco combo. I just default to bean and cheeses if im not in the mood to try anything different. The decor is the usual on small family owned shops; kind of random things with no real specific theme but a low retro vibe. Staff as super nice and patient with the other 3 while they tried to decide their order. I give them a 3 because its an average place; nothing crazy special, but the food was good with quick push out time of it all to us. read more

Came here for lunch to get the California burrito and the place does not disappoint. Their burrito was delicious with crispy fries, a generous amount of guacamole, and juicy pieces of carne asada. I've been to their location on Voltaire closer to SeaWorld and noticed that the name of the location is now Areli's taco shop but the quality is no different. The service was quick and effective, coming to this location there was an ample amount of parking available. Price at this location was great coming in at 11.50 for the Cali burrito with great quality ingredients. I got my food to go, however inside the restaurant was acceptable. No public restroom. Definitely would come back for their California burrito. read more

My family recommended their California burritos, so I picked up one and a carne asada burrito as well. The price is right about average and the burritos were very good. I thought the California burrito was a little dry, but that was solved with the addition of some red or green salsa. My favorite part of the burrito was the tortilla. The tortilla Ortiz uses is my favorite kind. It's a little chewy and doesn't tear easily. I wish more restaurants used this type of tortilla. This is a pretty good taco shop. I stopped in for a breakfast burrito and I was glad to find them opened on a early Sunday morning. The breakfast burrito came with eggs scrambled with bacon, chopped potatoes, and cheese for $5. I liked the breakfast burrito and it came wrapped in a very warm soft flour tortilla. The tortilla had a very good buttery texture. The scrambled eggs and bacon tasted good, but the eggs were not well scrambled; the whites and yolk were not well mix. Also, the chopped potatoes were way to large. They need to chop them into smaller cubes and provide less of them. After all, it's not a potato burrito. The bacon was plentiful and had a good crunch. The eggs were well seasoned and tasted even better with their red hot sauce. I tried the red hot sauce and it not only had good heat, but it tasted very good of hot peppers. I also tried the green hot sauce, which was good and had more sourness and less heat. In the end, a good breakfast burrito which would of been great with smaller potatoes and less of them. read more

While visiting SD, my best friend (who is a local) says his is hands down the best quick Mexican spot! My husband really wanted to try, so we did! We had the chips are served nice and warm and the guys was pretty good. I have had better quac, but I've also have had worse. I ordered the veggy burrito with no cheese. Honestly, it wasn't very good. I wish it had more beans. I would be okay with never visiting again. My husband and friend split carnitas, fish and asada tacos. They also shared the California burrito. They LOVED IT! My husband says he would give it 7 stars if he could. So I decided four stars because I'm super picky and I can't appreciate the meats that they offer. I don't believe they specialize in vegan food and that's totally okay. I'm trusting my husband and BFF on their opinion how great it really is. read more

So good! It's in my top 3 favorite Mexican spots in PB. It's open late and the people that work here are super friendly. My favorite thing on the menu is the green chilequilles. When I go for late night fixes I've gotten into the habit of ordering a cheese quesadilla with beans and a side of sour cream. This is my go-to Mexican joint on the PB strip. The one thing that distinguishes this place from the other hole-in-wall Mexican eateries in the area is food quality and preparation. The carne asada is not pre-cooked, simmering in a huge vat, and simply re-heated for the next customer. They grill-to-order here, which makes all the difference in the world. For those of you who like huge portions, that's not what they do. They don't serve you a bunch of slop to make up for the lack of food quality. They seems to have the perfect amount of protein portioned for things like their combination plates. And the service is super friendly. Definitely recommend. read more

Alright I'm not going to lie I was SUPER schwasted when we stopped by here. As far as I remember, the taco pastor was just okay- but the California burrito is where it's AT. I drunkenly ate almost all of my boyfriend's (he regretted sharing it with me immediately). My boyfriend first discovered this place when him and friends were local for a bachelor party. With all the shenanigans, they ended up coming here 7 times in 1 weekend. That was enough to sell it for me when we returned to SD last week. The California burrito was worth traveling from Boston to try. I'm LOVING carne asada fries in a burrito. Genius!! I even made him stop so we could get burritos for the plane ride back east. The parking lot is small, but we always lucked out and found parking. The people are friendly and fast. Here's what I really dislike about a Mexican fast food place. I really enjoy a shrimp, carne asada, sour cream, onion, rice, beans. Ever shop has a little different version of that. But I have not found a place that takes the "sand vein" or the GI tract out. You know what I mean. And this place is no different. Ortiz's has been around forever, tucked in the corner beside the 7-11 at Garnet and Fanuel. It looks pretty unassuming from the outside. I've had a lot of their menu over the years -- off the top of my head: asada burrito, chile relleno burrito, vege burrito, California burrito, cheese enchiladas, chicken enchiladas, cheese quesadillas, fish tacos. The food is great for take away -- I've had better fish tacos elsewhere, but the other food is top notch. That says a lot since there's so much competition for Mexican food in Pacific Beach. For lunch, I called in an order for three burritos with rice and beans sides. It was ready when I walked in the door shortly after, as usual. My favorite is the chile relleno burrito, which says a lot because it's vege and I love meat :) My kid loves their rice and beans. Everything was appetizing, as usual. Call ten minutes ahead for take away and you won't be disappointed with Ortiz's. Friendly and fast service! Crazy low prices -- plenty of value here. read more

When I don't feel like cooking, I let the kids decide where we will grab dinner. Their favorite place is this little taco shop and they always get the California Burrito. The burrito's are really filling and I'm not sure how my nine year old can eat an entire burrito on his own. I share a burrito with my five year old along with Horchata, and they are in heaven. The biggest downside to this establishment is the parking. It shares a parking lot with 7-eleven and a Thai restaurant and it is very challenging to get a spot. If the lot is full, you can wait for someone to come out of 7-eleven and grab their spot. The guy that we usually see at Ortiz is very nice and always tries talking to my boys in Spanish. I feel much better grabbing food for the kids here over a fast food establishment any day of the week. read more

This is a small taco shop sandwiched in between a 7-11 and a Thai restaurant. They have a half-dozen tables but does a lot of take out like most taco places. The counter person was quickly overwhelmed with a sudden rush and I had to go back to the counter for napkins and salsa, which were not offered to me otherwise. The food was generally o.k. but just o.k. The fried fish in the taco was ... chewy ..(chewy fish? ). The cabeza meat is shredded. Pretty upsetting. I used to eat here when my buddy lived near by and the carne asada fries were good when I was a dead body post PB night out. This week my Pops is in town from Boston and all he's wanted is tacos so we are hitting local spots. Vallarta, Oscars, Don Carlos (La Jolla) and then last night Ortiz's. Clean cheap Mexican fast food. Guy taking the order was friendly and helpful. The green sauce and red sauce are equally tasty. We had bacon breakfast burritos and they were good. Great portions of cheese, egg, potatos, and bacon. I didn't like that the cheese wasn't melted in the middle but at least the last bites on the end where melted and yummy. Tried the machaca breakfast burrito. It seems like its always a surprise what different shops put in their burrito at breakfast. Beans or no beans. Cheese or no cheese. Potatoes or no? This one was plain- very eggy, some meat, no veggies like usually are in with the shredded beef and a little dry. The green sauce was indeed good-tart and mild. Tortilla was fresh. This is a great little hole in the wall taco joint. We came here twice during our stay. Once for late night and then again the next day to treat our hangovers. Limited seating and it shares a parking lot with multiple other businesses. I would highly recommend this spot for anyone staying in Pacific Beach. read more
