    Ortiz's Taco Shop #2!

11 years later and this is still my favorite California burrito place. Areli is fantastic, the quality is amazing and consistent.

Honestly this is just your average Mexican food shop. Its about a 10 minute walk from where I work in PB and it wasn't very crowded so we easily got a table for the 4 of us. They usually have A mini taco order of 4 that's pretty cheap as well as a rolled taco combo. I just default to bean and cheeses if im not in the mood to try anything different. The decor is the usual on small family owned shops; kind of random things with no real specific theme but a low retro vibe. Staff as super nice and patient with the other 3 while they tried to decide their order. I give them a 3 because its an average place; nothing crazy special, but the food was good with quick push out time of it all to us.

My family recommended their California burritos, so I picked up one and a carne asada burrito as well. The price is right about average and the burritos were very good. I thought the California burrito was a little dry, but that was solved with the addition of some red or green salsa. My favorite part of the burrito was the tortilla. The tortilla Ortiz uses is my favorite kind. It's a little chewy and doesn't tear easily. I wish more restaurants used this type of tortilla. I'll be back to Ortiz's next time I'm in the area.

It's so cheesy and yummy, not dry at all. They're so much yummy shrimps and goodness.

Great spot for a burrito!! I've had the Cali burrito and a shrimp/beef burrito. Between the two, I preferred the Cali. Super fresh flour tortillas and delicious salsas. Friendly and quick service. And there is parking. Definitely recommend Ortiz's for anyone looking for a delicious Cali burrito!

Ate at this taco shop while visiting San Diego. They recommended the birria, which I ordered, and it was really good! I'd go back here for a quick tasty lunch anytime.

This is a pretty good taco shop. I stopped in for a breakfast burrito and I was glad to find them opened on a early Sunday morning. The breakfast burrito came with eggs scrambled with bacon, chopped potatoes, and cheese for $5. I liked the breakfast burrito and it came wrapped in a very warm soft flour tortilla. The tortilla had a very good buttery texture. The scrambled eggs and bacon tasted good, but the eggs were not well scrambled; the whites and yolk were not well mix. Also, the chopped potatoes were way to large. They need to chop them into smaller cubes and provide less of them. After all, it's not a potato burrito. The bacon was plentiful and had a good crunch. The eggs were well seasoned and tasted even better with their red hot sauce. I tried the red hot sauce and it not only had good heat, but it tasted very good of hot peppers. I also tried the green hot sauce, which was good and had more sourness and less heat. In the end, a good breakfast burrito which would of been great with smaller potatoes and less of them.

While visiting SD, my best friend (who is a local) says his is hands down the best quick Mexican spot! My husband really wanted to try, so we did! We had the chips are served nice and warm and the guys was pretty good. I have had better quac, but I've also have had worse. I ordered the veggy burrito with no cheese. Honestly, it wasn't very good. I wish it had more beans. I would be okay with never visiting again. My husband and friend split carnitas, fish and asada tacos. They also shared the California burrito. They LOVED IT! My husband says he would give it 7 stars if he could. So I decided four stars because I'm super picky and I can't appreciate the meats that they offer. I don't believe they specialize in vegan food and that's totally okay. I'm trusting my husband and BFF on their opinion how great it really is.

So good! It's in my top 3 favorite Mexican spots in PB. It's open late and the people that work here are super friendly. My favorite thing on the menu is the green chilequilles. When I go for late night fixes I've gotten into the habit of ordering a cheese quesadilla with beans and a side of sour cream. I'm hooked and I've had rave reviews from friends that have tried it, too.

Mini tacos! Asada and Carnitas are excellent. Guacamole and chips, too! Better then JV'S... We will be back....

Got tired of the good at JV's, so happy we found This one. Delicious Asada and Carnitas; we also liked the guacamole and chips . See my pix! Enjoy!!

California burrito. Still good, even after a 6hr plane ride.

Super dark and I mean dark, it'll take a minute for your eyes to adjust. Tapas style menu, we were a party of 4 and ordered: Squash blossom Relleno - it's the flower part of a squash plant and stuffed with mushroom duxelles which resembles a meat mixture with squash succotash. Outside is a corn tempura with a tomato base sauce. Pulpo-grilled octopus, one of the best texture and perfectly grilled skin with a chewy yet soft interior. The sauce has a slight kick and crunch from the corn nuts. Crab corn doughnut- this is their specialty and we were about to skip out but glad we didn't. The brioche bun had a donut batter with lumps of crab salad and corn mixture on top. El Festin- perfect for our party of 4 because it was a platter full of 4 Cheese quesadilla, 4 shrimp, 4 chicken slices, 1 jalapeño bacon wrap, ribeye. Flan-we should have each ordered one ourselves! Great flavors and texture, the top had ancient chocolate soil and had crispy corn nuts. Different but yummy. Overall, delicious food that came out so quick, great ambiance, we celebrated our birthdays and were each gifted candles with our names on the label. Truly amazing from beginning to end. Street parking only. The spots on the same block are metered but if you drive down to the second street towards residential, it's free.

Did as suggested, used an Uber to get there, didn't see any parking within close proximity as it is connected to the Lafayette Hotel and Club. Beautiful entry way, eyes definitely need to adjust to the darkness, lit candles everywhere; very church-like. The stained glass is beautiful. Tableware, tables, chairs somewhat Gothic. It did smell like candlewax, a bit overwhelming. Being able to see the open kitchen, was hoping to smell amazing dishes being prepared instead. I went by the reviews I read earlier, so we chose the Pulpo, perfect to share. Charred perfectly, tender on the inside on a spread of molè and bits of corn nuts, fabulous! Great presentation! Also tried the lentil spread, filling and plenty to share once again, tangy and spicy; our favorite appetizer. For a dish we shared the Chamoy bbq ribs, fell right off the bone; a tad salty. Corn ribs were tasty, wish they were fresh, a tad mushy and too salty. The pineapple Pico was just okay. We also ordered a passion fruit margarita and a Motomami, both were wonderful! Service was great, we were checked on often but then again it was a Thursday early evening and not busy yet. I would like to visit again and try other suggested dishes, when in town.
