    Ortiz's Taco Shop #2!

11 years later and this is still my favorite California burrito place. Areli is fantastic, the quality is amazing and consistent.

Honestly this is just your average Mexican food shop. Its about a 10 minute walk from where I work in PB and it wasn't very crowded so we easily got a table for the 4 of us. They usually have A mini taco order of 4 that's pretty cheap as well as a rolled taco combo. I just default to bean and cheeses if im not in the mood to try anything different. The decor is the usual on small family owned shops; kind of random things with no real specific theme but a low retro vibe. Staff as super nice and patient with the other 3 while they tried to decide their order. I give them a 3 because its an average place; nothing crazy special, but the food was good with quick push out time of it all to us.

My family recommended their California burritos, so I picked up one and a carne asada burrito as well. The price is right about average and the burritos were very good. I thought the California burrito was a little dry, but that was solved with the addition of some red or green salsa. My favorite part of the burrito was the tortilla. The tortilla Ortiz uses is my favorite kind. It's a little chewy and doesn't tear easily. I wish more restaurants used this type of tortilla. I'll be back to Ortiz's next time I'm in the area.

Great spot for a burrito!! I've had the Cali burrito and a shrimp/beef burrito. Between the two, I preferred the Cali. Super fresh flour tortillas and delicious salsas. Friendly and quick service. And there is parking. Definitely recommend Ortiz's for anyone looking for a delicious Cali burrito!

Ate at this taco shop while visiting San Diego. They recommended the birria, which I ordered, and it was really good! I'd go back here for a quick tasty lunch anytime.

    Bacon Breakfast Burrito

This is a pretty good taco shop. I stopped in for a breakfast burrito and I was glad to find them opened on a early Sunday morning. The breakfast burrito came with eggs scrambled with bacon, chopped potatoes, and cheese for $5. I liked the breakfast burrito and it came wrapped in a very warm soft flour tortilla. The tortilla had a very good buttery texture. The scrambled eggs and bacon tasted good, but the eggs were not well scrambled; the whites and yolk were not well mix. Also, the chopped potatoes were way to large. They need to chop them into smaller cubes and provide less of them. After all, it's not a potato burrito. The bacon was plentiful and had a good crunch. The eggs were well seasoned and tasted even better with their red hot sauce. I tried the red hot sauce and it not only had good heat, but it tasted very good of hot peppers. I also tried the green hot sauce, which was good and had more sourness and less heat. In the end, a good breakfast burrito which would of been great with smaller potatoes and less of them.

While visiting SD, my best friend (who is a local) says his is hands down the best quick Mexican spot! My husband really wanted to try, so we did! We had the chips are served nice and warm and the guys was pretty good. I have had better quac, but I've also have had worse. I ordered the veggy burrito with no cheese. Honestly, it wasn't very good. I wish it had more beans. I would be okay with never visiting again. My husband and friend split carnitas, fish and asada tacos. They also shared the California burrito. They LOVED IT! My husband says he would give it 7 stars if he could. So I decided four stars because I'm super picky and I can't appreciate the meats that they offer. I don't believe they specialize in vegan food and that's totally okay. I'm trusting my husband and BFF on their opinion how great it really is.

    Green chilequiles

So good! It's in my top 3 favorite Mexican spots in PB. It's open late and the people that work here are super friendly. My favorite thing on the menu is the green chilequilles. When I go for late night fixes I've gotten into the habit of ordering a cheese quesadilla with beans and a side of sour cream. I'm hooked and I've had rave reviews from friends that have tried it, too.

Mini tacos! Asada and Carnitas are excellent. Guacamole and chips, too! Better then JV'S... We will be back....

We got there and she told us to wait while our table is being set up. They ended up taking us to the upstairs room. They had to split the 2 tables to have a seat for us. They wanted us to sit at the table that is in close proximity of the walkway. I said I did not want to sit there because I did not want to have people walk by me the entire time. They had to push the table away from the second one and we had to be closer to the entrance. I said will sit at the second table since it's not near the entrance. I had to repeat this 3 times. She finally said ok, well, I will have to take you downstairs. I said ok. They finally sat us at a table with 2 chairs and out of the way. So, here is the thing.....why was I waiting, if my table was not being set up, to where you had to split 2 tables, and put me closest to the entry way of the door? 2. The lighting is very dark. It was hard to see the food to maneuver and eat. I get this is the ambiance. So...maybe brighter lamps at the table?

It's always a great place to stop before or after going to the airport because it's that close. We originally went there for an early dinner, but happened to meet the happy hour time frame (3:30-5:30). They have a wonderful array of drinks and appetizers to choose from. The most expensive being $11.00. Each appetizer is enough for two people. A man at the bar asked me if I wanted some of his guacamole dip because he could finish it all. He looked like that was his dinner meal too. I declined, since I was favoring the ceviche and chicken tinga tostadas. Both tasted delicious. I heard the bacon wrapped jalapeño were good but not gf. So I didn't try them. The views from our table were spectacular. They had many GF options listed on their menu. Our waiter, Jared, (so helpful and attentive), told me which items are more gluten sensitive and which ones were gluten free. The drinks were tasty and refreshing too. First, the location and the views are simply stunning. It set the perfect backdrop for a celebratory evening. But what really elevated the vibe was the music! The fish was grilled to tender, paired with smooth avocado puree and fresh salsa--a rich and satisfying bite. But! The biggest surprise is the tortilla--it was on the softer side, yet surprisingly chewy. Smoked Fish Taco: A classic and San Diego signature dish. The fish was shredded into small pieces, giving it a smoky flavor and a slightly dry texture. The taste was nice, but you don't really feel the meat in bites, so it was slightly less impressive. Fish Ceviche: Marinated in lemon juice, the proteins denatured, making the fish appear white and fully cooked, but it still had a firm, raw texture. Completely different from other raw fish ceviche I've had. But! Incredibly tangy!!! The first bite was so tangy it was almost painful; it was only after being served as tapas with tostadas that I gradually got used to it. Lemon juice, tomato, and onion--it was easy to imagine the refreshing taste, while the rich aroma of avocado nicely balanced the harshness. Shrimp Ceviche: The shrimp appeared to be cooked; they weren't large but were quite fresh, with firm and tender meat. See above for other details. The restaurant is located in a small food court, with very limited parking and seating. It may be inconvenient for groups of four or more to dine in.

We left right away to pick up the food and sure enough it was ready waiting for our arrival. One quick drive back home to dig in and the aroma was so enticing. California Burritos is very apt for their name, my bf rates it a 10/10. As a California Burrito connoisseur, he liked the addition of sour cream in it and said the flavors were delicious. He topped it with their green salsa for a little bit of a freshness to cut through the richness and fattiness of the meat and fries in the burrito. He didn't care for the fish taco that much and rated it a 4/10 but said the restaurant overall was a 10/10, as he thought there was too much lettuce and tomato throwing off the ratio of the taco.
