This review is not about Don Brown, which I'm sure is a fine dealership. I just need to warn everyone about Chevrolet especially if you're considering an equinox In my Chevy equinox Chevrolet decided to keep using a part in the breaking system that they knew had a history of failure and they had actually recalled from other vehicles. My daughter was driving my equinox during rush-hour traffic when this part broke, making her brakes almost as hard as a rock, and she barely avoided a collision with a full gasoline, tanker truck, who knows how many lives could've ended because of this brake failure. The broken parts then made their way into my engine, completely ruining my engine and making my car in operable. I tried contacting Chevy, but they have shown me that they do not care about my situation or apparently the safety of their customers. There has even been a new class action lawsuit filed because of all the damage Chevrolet choosing to use this part has caused. read more

He made me comfortable enough to by my vehicle sight unseen. Then it was time to go over to Finance with Ricky Hoskins and it was honestly the most pleasant auto finance process I've ever encountered. I took my car in for a simple oil change and tire rotation, now all of a sudden my tire sensors are out and need to be replaced, My sensors were fine and the tire sensor alert was not in when I brought my car in, the service rep said it was noting he could do and the service manager would give me a call back. I went to the collision center to get an estimate for a broken antenna and will never go back again. First off, in order to get to the collision center, you have to wind through a million narrow lanes and sharp turns, which pretty much guarantee that you will need the collision center because the chances of getting in a wreck getting there are astronomical. When I finally got into the office, no one acknowledged me for 5 minutes, but when the guy in a side office finally did talk to me, there was no "hi" or "how can I help you?" And the guy never ever made eye contact with me. He didn't listen to any of my answers to his questions and was completely dismissive. No customer service means no customers, which can't be good for business. Avoid at all costs. I wish I'd read Yelp reviews before going there today. read more

Went in with a "recall" letter for my 2014 Chevy Cruze LTZ Also had issues with my brakes and asked to please check them out. Kept my car for two days. Then told me they had to order the parts for the recall. May be in next Monday, and I could pick up my vehicle to drive while waiting for the parts. I asked about my brake issues. Was told they were fine. Maybe the squishing sound was due to the cold. I drove it the next day and was worse. Took my car to Midas. Had to replace the front brakes and rotors. Told me it was metal on metal. $600. Car brakes fine now. I was texted this week about my parts being in. I'm sorry, but I certainly don't trust this dealership working on my vehicle again. After two SUV's and perfect payment history with GM Financing, plus BOTH cars being significantly under the mileage and in immaculate shape, I recently went in to discuss my 3rd lease starting in 2023. I had been literally receiving a text, call, or email almost EVERY day from someone at Don Brown. They were consistently inquiring to see if I was interested in trading my current car in early. Apparently, my car was VERY popular and in demand and Don Brown knew they could make some VERY nice money on it! My fear, naturally, was that there wouldn't be a car to put me into because of this supply shortage. So, I did reply and explained this very reason and never heard back. I just kept getting generic calls, texts, emails, asking me to consider trading in early. My wife and I finally did decide to check things out towards the end of January. We had been texting Michelle, the sales manager and Paul a fine sales person. While it was hard to get clear and concise replies, we finally just set up a time on a Saturday to come in, test drive not our exact cars...but, same model and then talk terms. The deal was I would trade in my car and lease again. My wife, who sold her car, would be putting down a nice payment and would also be leasing. After waiting an hour, we finally start with my wife's test drive. She is told that we have to put gas the car first. On the car that I was testing, which they knew the evening before, we had to take all of the plastic and shipping materials off. That 10-15 mins. and why it couldn't have been done before we arrived is puzzling to me. However, the final straw...was the finance manager. He comes into the cubical to talk and about a minute in, my wife interjects as she has a question. This guy, gives her a look like she just called him the worst name ever...he pauses, sighs, starts to smirk this...condescending, belittling, self righteous smirk...and says, "If you will let me finish...I bet I will answer every little question that you have. Okay, dear?" He was SO unprofessional, rude, offensive, and was NOT interested in trying to help us or answer any of our questions. I have seen and spoken with this guy before and was rather put off by the things I had heard in the past. Just from the colorful vocabulary he uses...and I don't mean cursing...I would NOT be able to stand 30 seconds with him! So, my patience for him is already short...and now we have this. The fact is, he has been there for a LONG time and he is allowed to act and talk like that because of the "culture" of the business! It's a family business and who sets and establishes that culture? Don Brown Jr. and his Senior staff. If he talks and acts a certain way, then they are going to follow! From the people in the Service Area treating you with disrespect...to the sales people either being overworked and too busy for scheduled appointments. Or, the Finance Manager NOT being helpful, supportive, or professional in ANY way. Instead being a rude, condescending, and just plain offensive "dirty old man" that clearly doesn't like women! Sorry...truth hurts! So...we will NO longer be a part of the Don Brown "family" I never want to see the name again. I never want to see a commercial again! It's a shame, as my wife and I REALLY strive to try and patronize STL City and especially South City businesses that are "family owned." However, you are going to lose to the LARGE corporate entities when you can't deliver what a customer expects when they come to the family owned businesses! We know we can DEFINITELY do better than Don Brown, even if that means driving a bit farther...it will be worth it. The part that really gets me is during Covid, these people were BEGGING to get cars off their lot! In 2020, I walked in and said I can only leave with a new lease/car if you get my monthly payments to "X." This was with Michelle (now sales manager). She left, came back about 15 mins. later and said, "how about the monthly price you want plus $1.00...TOTAL?" DONE! They needed to make a sale, I knew what I could handle budget wise and everyone was happy! Now, they are just being greedy and forgetting that it will ALL come around again and they will need us once again! Also, in 2016, it was OUR money that saved the automobile industry! How quickly they all seem to forget about that. Without us, they wouldn't be around nor have jobs potentially. So, I just think that these dealerships and actual lease financing companies like GM should REALLY look at each case more carefully, instead of just their "blanket formula!" read more

This places struggles with lack of communication. I got a quote for repairs and was told it would take a day for the part to come in. It actually took 3 days for it to be ready and then another 2 days of me calling and texting to reach someone to schedule the appointment. When I arrived for my appointment, I was first told the part was never ordered because they couldn't find it as wasn't labeled properly in their store room. I also specifically asked if the quote I was given included parts and labor. Well it didn't and they charged me an additional $400 over what I was told previously and what I was told at the beginning of the appointment. I was also previously told that there would be no surcharge if I paid with a debit card as opposed to a credit card. Well my card was charged more than the total given to me today and the advisor did not inform me of a surcharge when paying with debit!! To tell me a total and then charge me more without informing me is disgusting. I was looking for a new dealership to take care of specialized repairs for my electric hybrid vehicle but this has not been a good experience. read more

Then they proceeded to tell me that the price was $3500 more than what is posted. Claimed computer issues. If it was a computer issue it would not have been posted that way on multiple sites. One site sure but not 2-3 different sites all of which have no association with each other. If you view my picture it clearly shows was this price now this price. It showed the same thing on there website but they changed it before i could screen shot it. FALSELY advertising an item to try and get people to come in is bad business. Run, don't walk to ELCO or George Weber (Columbia IL). Seriously, save yourself. I went here because I was involved in a traumatic accident & it was the closest one to my home. Huge mistake. My full review is on their FB page now), but here are the highlights. 12/08/21 I stopped by, Ben Y and Tom assured me I would be in good hands whenever I was ready but then their staff called/emailed me for 2 weeks. 12/23 Emailed them a pre-approval & the exact SUV from their site. Ben called, set a time. I took a Lyft there, it was not inspected/detailed yet, had a minor dent on the hood, & the mirror cover was gone. After repeating myself about using my own financing twice, put down my deposit with the assurance that everything with my CU would be done "behind the scenes" & the SUV would be good to go by Monday afternoon. 12/27 3:45 pm - It's still not detailed/mirror not fixed, so I'd have to bring it back, again waiting til I arrived to say this. I had already paid OOP for an SUV rental over Christmas weekend and used Lyft 3 times specifically due to their incompetence - I was just ready to leave in a car that I would see for more than 5+ days at this point. They put me with Melanie. Ben had not done the steps on my pre-approval. I caught on to a "whisper convo" regarding MY purchase and said aloud that what was being said was incorrect, that I did NOT say I would send the PO over myself because how could I do that when I didn't have a copy of a PO reflecting the full down payment I said I planned to give? I called my loan officer who stayed late to push the process along. Pretty sure they were trying to make me miss banking hours to try to push their financing a 4th time. 3 hrs later I stood outside waiting on them to put a dealer plate on it, so I could drive home on E.  12/28 Melanie called, told her I wanted to come at 10a, she said 1p, but would check. The manager Pam called me back to say 1p was all they could do. I let her know their service was not great, she offered a future oil change and gas. I said that they only gave me 1 key and it had 2, so I wanted my 2nd key or they would have to pay for another one and she agreed. 1pm, Service had no idea why I was there and had to call in. An hr into my wait, Pam offers me her card and two free oil changes. I declined. Service told me it was done and keys were given to Melanie. 10 mins later I went to find Melanie who still needed to put the temp tag on it. It wasn't clean. I msgd Pam and sent pics, her response is in the pics. And they wouldn't give me my paperwork to register it, saying you have to wait for 7-10 days for your finance check to clear. Ruined my plans to get 2-year plates. These are certified checks, FROM financial institutions they've faxed POs, it's literally "cleared" when it's deposited. 12/30 - I called and Chris said it had not yet cleared. 1/04 - I called my loan officer who assured me that they got their funds on 12/30. I called ELCO just to inquire and confirmed it's still a 1 day process. Went to Don Brown unannounced and asked for Pam, she sent Chris. He walks up with my paperwork, referencing potential fraud. I shut the convo down, gave him their branded plate covers and left. I left Pam a VM letting her know I heard her call the front and ask what I wanted. She called and I said my issue was, I felt the misrepresentation was intentional and told her about my call to ELCO, and asked why they claim that certified checks get held when that's inaccurate. Pam said she couldn't speak for another dealership's processes. I reminded her that I was asking about theirs. I asked if they were alllowed to have their own guidelines and she repeated the prior response, ultimately ending the call. They are fraudulent. Run. read more

service manager Jere is great BUT their policy of charging $25.00 for incidentals is ridiculous for changing a cable!!!!!! they charged over 400.00 labor for this but then charged and additional 25.00 for what????! i guess Don brown can't afford to buy their guys gloves and cleaning solution and wants to gouge their loyal return customers for it. I have been looking for a truck for a while that was not crazy overpriced in my opinion and came across a 2012 Ram 1500 that was listed at Don Brown Chevrolet. The pictures of the truck looked good but did not show some key areas that I was wanting to see. After thinking about it for a couple weeks, I reached out to see if they would work with me and get pictures that I was wanting. This was important to me because I live just shy of 4 hours from this location and did not want to make the drive just to find something out that could be seem via pictures. Melanie had no problem with taking the requested pictures. I was also worried that, once I told them how far away I lived that they would just write me off but this did not happen. I was able to communicate with Melanie via multiple methods including Phone calls, Text messages, and E-mail. Once I got on site, I am sure she thought I was a little crazy as I was crawling all over under the truck, asking questions about things that I knew these trucks are known for as far as issues, and hooking up my tablet to the truck to scan all the computers and watch vehicle data while it was running. Melanie never made me feel rushed or that I was a pain in the rear while I was doing all my checks. She had the service department help me take a look at the one concern that I had and was happy with what they found. Between the great price of the truck, the amazing customer service that Melanie provided, and the truck was what they said it was, that is what sealed the deal and I drove "Clifford" the 4 hour trip back home! read more

This day...horrible service I brought my car in at 7am..open time with an app that. 12 noon. No call 2pm. I called left a message. I texted at 1:06 and 2:04 to no response. I called at 3pm. I call to find out what's going on with my vehicle. Left a message. No call back. 3:10 call back in. They tell me to call back in 10 mins. I call back and get a voice mail. I go and warm up.the extra car in this 2° weather. So up to this point I don't have any estimate nor idea what's exactly wrong with my car. I head over to find out. The place is swamped. Oil changes took precident over all! He says that he called at 3:23pm..twice..WOW! While I was warming up the car. SERIOUSLY Don Brown! Usually you have your act together but you dropped the ball today. No one was able to tell me anything. Only Jim Staub was in charge of consultations. This isn't cool. No call back. No text back. No feedback. That doesn't work for me. Nor most professionals. WORST customer service ever. read more

I have been looking for a Silverado pick up truck on line. I saw one at Don Brown. I contacted them to see if it was available. I was told it was. I went to look at it and drive it in the afternoon. When I got there I was told it had sold that morning. Of course they tried to show and sell me another truck. When I showed I wasn't interested the salesperson went and got the manager (double pressure). I left and thought I guess it could have sold earlier. It has been two weeks and that truck is still on the website. They say it's available. This certainly is a bait and switch. I will never go back to Don Brown Chevrolet. First off, this review is for the sales department only. I was in the market for a 2020 Silverado and was very upfront that I was shopping at a few other dealerships to get the best deal. With several Chevy dealerships within a roughly 30 mile radius I thought this should be quick and easy. I did internet pricing research, contacted dealerships by phone to confirm availability and price, and checked KBB/comps for my trade in. I set out with Don Brown as my first stop and hooked up with Rodney Earl. I told Rodney I was shopping around and right away he was determined to make me a loyal customer by giving me the best experience possible. Rodney, and sales manager Tim, worked with me on my trade and although they ended up being just short of the best deal (I didn't try to get them to counter), I went with them based on customer service alone. In my run around the St Louis area dealerships I heard one word over and over, Loyalty. When I told dealers I was shopping around I was immediately told they were more interested in loyalty than a customer who shops for the best deal. One dealership interaction lasted just 10 minutes before they walked me out of the door stating they didn't want to deal with me since I wasn't a loyal customer. Well the team at Don Brown understood that loyalty is earned and they will continue to be my first stop because of it. read more

Thank you so much for the great service at Don Brown! My car overheated so I made an appointment for the next morning (schedule with a phone call, not online!). When I arrived they noticed a problem with my windows as well and let me know they'd get me an estimate. I was able to take their shuttle to work and get picked back up after - super convenient! And they let me know my windows and the water pump which was leaking coolant would be covered under my warranty (which I forgot to even mention!). I also got an oil change/tire rotation and new wipers for $75. I will definitely be back if I need any services in the future. I appreciate the convenience and care. Finally got only four pictures and no details about the vehicle as I asked. He told me they've been swamped and waiting on customers for 9 hours. Stopped in looking for a used HHR. Frank, the sales man I spoke with, was helpful at first. I wasn't prepared to buy that day and told him it would be a couple weeks. Over the next two months he must have called me 10 times asking if I was ready to buy. When I finally was, I called Frank and explained that George Weber had similar vehicles on their lot for $2000 less, and if they could meet the price I would buy the car that afternoon. Frank told me it wasn't a problem, that is until I got there. Once I got to the lot, Frank told me he couldn't verify the price of the vehicle on the internet and that the vehicles he was finding were different models. My BF showed him the website for the dealer (Frank was looking at AutoTrader even though I had told him it was actually on George Weber's website). Frank went to "talk to the manager" and came back with a different price as 'the lowest he could go." I thanked him for wasting my time and we left. The next day I bought a car somewhere else. Fast forward 10 days, I get a phone call from Frank, again, asking if I was still interested in an HHR. Dude, get a hint. You wasted my time by telling me to come in and you weren't able to meet the prices of other dealers. Stop calling me. read more

Popped into Don Brown Chevy on a whim to see about possibly buying a Spark & was lucky enough to be paired with salesman Jeremy West. Jeremy showed us two cars fitting my request, one was not right, but the other was perfect. Did a quick test drive, fell in love & started the buying process. Jeremy gave me 1,000 off as a first time Chevy buyer & Jerry in finance helped me get another discount by signing up for a credit card. Quick process, great rate & an overall good experience. Thanks guys! Update - so things have taken a bit of a downturn regarding the overall experience. Can't take anything away from Jeremy, and I wouldn't, he was very helpful and I don't regret buying the car. What I DO regret was not taking notes on everything that the finance manager told us. The whole "sign up for this card and you'll get $500" was a complete fabrication. Now, when I ask about it, Jerry is laying on the "you must have misunderstood" line and trying to make me feel guilty for following up and that maybe my stupid ladybrain just didn't understand. I should have known better and guess I'll think about this next time I'm in the market for a car. Jerry claims to be "looking into it" but I truly doubt I'll ever hear back from him. I'm hoping to move on from this bit of ugliness and just enjoy my car but I'm bummed about how negative this whole thing turned. ETA - This was finally resolved and I got my $500! Now that things are resolved and I edited my overall rating to represent the positive light in which I'll remember this experience. Would I buy another car from Don Brown? Sure. Would I recommend? Also sure, as long as people know that they'll have to be firm on what they want and should pay close attention to what the finance managers are saying. read more

Made an appointment 4 days ago online and they have no record of it. Fine, strike one. The younger guy asks service person in the bay about it and he responds that he doubts it will happen. Strike two. Younger guy comes back and says "yea we won't be able to get you in". That was it. No options or other solutions. I've been warned by my family about coming here but it's so close. Made an appointment at one of the other many local dealers for today within an hour and a they're giving me a loaner. Take your business elsewhere. Look at the other reviews. Even if this is the closest one, call south county or west county because they will treat you right. Hopefully someone from GM straightens this place out, it's been a long time coming.
