New taco spot in Hendersonville, opened for a couple of weeks now! Food was good and came out quickly. Hubby had an asada (steak) burrito and I had 4 tacos (asada, carnitas, chorizo, barbacoa). They have a salsa bar where you can select and fill your own little cups. The menu includes pictures of each item. Seems to be set up mainly for to-go orders as the interior only has 4 tables. One high chair, but no changing station in the restroom. Easy to spot their yellow sign from the road and ample parking in a private lot shared with the other businesses in the small shopping strip. Minus one star as it was uncomfortably warm inside the restaurant and the tables needed to be cleaned. Food was tasty, so we'll give it another try sometime.

Finally stopped at Don Carbons . We did take out and got the camarones al mojo de ajo. It was FABULOUS ! Shrimp perfectly cooked in a delicious butter garlic sauce that was not spicy. ( I love spicy, hubby doesnt so the pickled carrots and radishes that come with it kicked it up enough for me...but even without heat, the dish has a nice flavor...and again, SHRIMP COOKED PERFECTLY !! ( Yes, I'm shouting! )... The refried beans also had a different taste than the rest of the Mexican places here. Don't know what was different but it was very nice. Now Im anxious to come back and try the rest of their menu.

This is the second location for Don Carbon Express in Middle Tennessee. What a great addition to Hendersonville. I've been eagerly anticipating the arrival of Don Carbon as there are a couple of great Taquerias in town but the lines are long (a good sign) so there's demand in town for another Taqueria. This is a walk up counter so no long lines of cards circling the building like at other places. Not a criticism, that's just how they operate. When you walk in there is a large empty space and a few tables on the wall which indicates that this is primarily a take out place. I opted to eat in. It's pretty warm inside the restaurant so it was a bit uncomfortable but it didn't' detract from the delicious food. There are a large variety of typical options such as tacos, burritos, quesadillas, etc. They have the typical meat options of carne asada, carnitas, chicken, beef tongue and a few others. You can add onion, jalapeno, cilantro, etc. as garnishes. Served in two soft corn tortillas I ordered tacos de carnitas with onion and no cilantro (vile weed!) and refried beans as a side. They only have canned soda and Jariotos fruit flavored soda in bottles. They also have some type of fountain fruit punch. No fountain drinks so if you need a refill it's going to cost 1/4 the total meal cost. They also have small bags of tortilla chips and a freshly prepared salsa bar with typical options. They Salsa Picante from peppers is fabulous and the Salsa Pincante de Tomatillo has a nice kick. Nice little touch with the salsa bar. My tacos were excellent. They were served with grilled onion and a grilled jalapeno which were very tasty. They were served with a few slices of radish and pickled carrot in true Taqueria style. The food was prepared quickly and my carnitas (crispy) were juicy and flavorful. The refried beans were pretty typical. The were served warm and the queso melted sufficiently to enhance the flavor. Overall, the service was excellent but the "dining room" does not lend itself to comfort. The food however was outstanding. This will definitely be a "comebacker" for me. Thoroughly enjoyed it'd

Oh. My. Goodness. Street tacos. Carnitas. Asadas. Agua frescas. And much much more! All fresh and fast. Eat in or take out. So yummy and reasonably priced.

I'm addicted to the street tacos ($2.00) at Don Carbon. I eat here at least once a week.

It looks like they're doing a renovation as well. The service from our server was odd, however. It felt like he was trying to leave work so everything was in fast forward mode. As soon as he greeted us, he took our drink orders, which is customary, but he also wanted our food order. We'd never been there before so we needed some time. He left & then quickly returned to get our order again. My Mom is in her 70's & likes to take her time (within reason since we were famished). We just gave him our order without finishing looking at the menu. Whatever, we complied. The server never asked for our choice in protein for the lunch items we ordered. I guess he was just going to choose for us until I stopped him as he walked away & informed him of what we wanted. I'm a vegetarian due to medical reasons & it would have been nice to have my opinion about what I'm about to eat considered without my having to push this person to do their job. The food that came was far from expected in conjunction with the esthetic of the restaurant. It looked like a red mass on a plate. Everything was gooey, saucy & I couldn't tell what I was eating. Same for my mom. I had substituted rice for beans. That didn't happen. I couldn't tell which item on the plate was my poblano or my enchilada. Everything was flat & red, even the unwanted beans were covered in red sauce. I requested the rice I had ordered & it eventually came. Are peas & square carrots customary in Mexican rice? All in all, much like the food it was a blah experience. The food was basic & uneventful. Everything tasted the same. The service was also blah & uneventful. I hope the guy got to where he needed to be. We won't be there again.

For those who are looking for Ricardo's...this is the place, but it underwent a rebrand and relocation in the past few years. The restaurant is not large, but being located on the corner of the plaza gives lots of natural light for the long dining room, plus a cool cutout space for the bright bar and there is even a small patio outside of the front door. The space does not give off your standard Mexican restaurant vibes in full, but the essence of it is there and that is good enough! I have dined in, but most of my visits are pickup from an online order. My go-to here is always the Arroz con Queso. Unlike other spots, this comes automatically with peppers and onions, but no tortillas. I 86 the peppers and live without the tortillas. It is a good amount of chicken, rice, onions and queso. Always hits the spot! Along with this, I usually get a bowl of queso, but recently decided to get an order of bean dip...and where has this been my whole life. I kind of knew what to expect, but the ratio of refried bean to queso was absolute perfection! Price point was standard and ran me around $23 for my entree and dip plus tip. Service is always welcoming and friendly, plus they are usually quick with preparation, so never long waits whether dine in or pick up. Overall, really happy to have found El Mezcal. A solid go-to when in Hendersonville!

I swung by on an afternoon for lunch after doing some shopping nearby. The place was not too busy, so I was sat promptly and assisted shortly after. The space is welcoming, themed, bright, well kept and clean. As with any stop at a Mexican spot, queso is always a starter. Priced at $5, the queso was standard, but that does not equal bad. Exactly what I was after. For my meal, I went with the Pollo Mexicano, which is a slight twist on the Arroz con Pollo, as they add sauteed onions and jalapeno peppers. It came in around $15, which was decent given the portion and preparation. The food was nothing special, and could have used a bit more seasoning, but it was still a decent lunch for $20 plus tax and tip. Service was okay. My server popped outside for a good portion of my meal, so I did have to get up and go to the bar at one time for a refill. He apologized and we moved on, no big deal. Overall, solid 3.5 for me. Wouldn't hesitate to come back when in the area, but not going to go out of my way to swing by.

The quesadilla was delicious, well cooked and packed with the goods! Of course before the main, I started with a small queso. The queso was bland and a bit thick for my liking. The complimentary salsa was also nothing special. They both got the job done, but were just okay.
