Jose's Mexican Restaurant anchors a nicely located corner of a large shopping complex on Glenbrook way in Hendersonville and for the most part is your standard Tex-Mex spot that has a few slightly elevated takes on traditional Mexican dishes. I swung by on an afternoon for lunch after doing some shopping nearby. The place was not too busy, so I was sat promptly and assisted shortly after. The space is welcoming, themed, bright, well kept and clean. As with any stop at a Mexican spot, queso is always a starter. Priced at $5, the queso was standard, but that does not equal bad. Exactly what I was after. For my meal, I went with the Pollo Mexicano, which is a slight twist on the Arroz con Pollo, as they add sauteed onions and jalapeno peppers. It came in around $15, which was decent given the portion and preparation. The food was nothing special, and could have used a bit more seasoning, but it was still a decent lunch for $20 plus tax and tip. Service was okay. My server popped outside for a good portion of my meal, so I did have to get up and go to the bar at one time for a refill. He apologized and we moved on, no big deal. Overall, solid 3.5 for me. Wouldn't hesitate to come back when in the area, but not going to go out of my way to swing by. read more

This was my first visit to Jose's and I look forward to coming back again. You do need to avoid coming here if you are in any kind of a rush as it can take a while but the food is delicious. The guacamole is very tasty but it can be a bit challenging to scoop up on your chips so you might have to use a fork to help with that. It's served in a square container and might be part of the reason it's tricky to scoop up. Either way it is still worth ordering. For our meals we had the quesadilla fajita which was fabulous. The portion size was big enough that I took half of the meal home. My husband ordered the California burrito. He didn't realize it had queso on top. That was a nice surprise. First time here and i don't like to give 5 starts right at first visit. I will definitely return, the atmosphere and vibe were very welcoming, we were sat right away for lunch, and chips/salsa and drinks kept coming. Food was very good and quick to be made. A friend wanted to try this place because they had good reviews on social media. I did like the ambiance of the restaurant however the service was not good. We waited too long to be seated, waited too long to get our food and even waited too long to get our card back after paying! I literally had to go up to the register and get it The food was just ok, got a chimichanga with rice and beans, they brought it out to the temperature of the sun so I actually had to wait too long to eat my food. I just left this restaurant after sitting there for 15 mins being completely ignored. They couldn't even be bothered to bring a glass of water to the table. It was clear the the older lady server was doing it on purpose. She walked passed our table 3 times without so much as I'll be right with you. There are too many Mexican options in Hendersonville for them to have crappy service. Save your time and money and stick with Casa Vieja or Do Margaritas! UPDATE: My husband tried to leave a similar review on Eat Hendersonville and they declined it. It's clear that these folks don't care about their customers and only want positive reviews. If this is the way they do business, they'll end up like the other restaurants that have failed in that location. read more

First visit and pleasantly surprised considering some of the other reviews. We arrived early in the evening and seated immediately. Glad we were early, there was a wait when we left an hour later. The place was clean with comfortable lighting. Good atmosphere and not too loud. Service was good and food excellent. Great draft beer selection and the margaritas were a hit for my wife. Epic disappointment. Sat at bar. Not super busy. Waiting for a few mins got a beer. Bartender ask if I wanted chips and salsa. I said yes please. Never came. Drank my beer. 32oz. 20 mins probably. Never asked if I wanted food. Sitting with empty glass. He comes back. "You going to eat". I'm like what a ass. Been here almost 30 mins. Never got the chips and salsa, since they don't have menus you have scan to code so they have no idea if your looking at a menu or not. O well. The steak was severely overcooked and drowning in grease. Arrived on Saturday afternoon. We were seated immediately. There were only 2 of us. The restaurant was not busy. Waited on a beer and a water for 20 minutes. Finally ordered. Waited 25 minutes on the food. No refills on the drinks. Chicken taco salad was very runny with little chicken. The chicken that was there was rubbery. Steak tacos consisted of mostly fat trimmings. Pretty gross. Total with the tip $48. It took way too long and the food wasn't good. Too many other options to return. read more

We have been wanting to try this place and finally went around 1:30P today and it wasn't terribly busy. We were seated quickly and served some chips and salsa, but we were never acknowledged again. We sat for 15 minutes watching a server walk past us repeatedly and never stopping to help us, though she did stop at the table behind us 2-3 times. My wife finally went to the host stand to get help, but couldn't get waited on there either. We finally got up and left stopping on the way out to tell some older gentleman, who was either the owner or manager, that they were losing out on a sale due to lack of service. If they can't handle today's crowd, they are doomed on a busy Fri or Sat night. Don't know if we will go back and try it again. We did walk next door and had a quick a delicious lunch at the Gyros King Hendersonville. Don't waste ur time here and head down to Casa Vieja when you're in the mood for Mexican. read more
