Coming from San Diego, we are harsh critics when it comes to Mexican food. This place DID NOT disappoint. Fresh chips and salsa were very good. I got the Birria nachos and they were delicious 5 out of 5*s. My brother got the #6. Taco was ground beef and lacked flavor, but the rice and beans were good. My dad got the carnitas plate. He said they were very good. He rated 4* out of 5. The BIG WINNER was my husband who had the Texas Burrito. The BEST carne asada we've ever had. It was all charbroiled. As he ate it, he forgot it came with FLAMED GRILLED shrimp and chicken. FANTASTIC! We are all going to get this next time, or try new and exciting items. TRY THIS PLACE OUT! read more

Great food and clean restaurant. We had apps: guacamole fresco- so fresh and delicious loved the hint of lime in each bite; queso- also great flavor and consistency. And for our meals: chicken cheese and rice with grilled peppers- cooked perfectly and yummy; and shrimp tacos- best ever, the shrimp was diced and cooked perfectly too. No complaints, will definitely be back. You walk in and are immediately greeted by smiling staff. The food is always flavorful and fresh. Carne asada tacos are my favorite. The guacamole and queso cheese dip are the best in the area! The ambiance is that of your typical Mexican restaurant but always clean and tidy. Parking is ample and the patio is nice weather permitting. read more

This used to be a Pizza Hut and they did an excellent job converting it to a Mexican restaurant. It was very clean and had a nice vibe. While the service was a little slow and the top shelf margarita bottom shelf the food was excellent. Even my picky husband stated his food was excellent and my daughter loved her chicken nachos. This is a small quaint Mexican restaurant that's almost too hidden to notice. But it has a bright blue seaside shack appearance on the outside with what appears to be new paint, and the inside is clean as well. It's rustic in a good way. The staff is very friendly. This was a generic "authentic" Mexican place. I wasn't fond of the salsa but the food was decent. The Pancho Villa had good chicken but the shrimp had no flavor whatsoever. Hubby said the Burrito Mexico was ok but I forgot to grab a bite to see for myself. What really irked me about this place is that somehow, someway, after the food and drinks were ordered and delivered, I got completely ignored. Waiters all looked to my husband and even the manager walking by addressed my husband and only him and then walked on. Hubby says it just happened that he was the one making eye contact with people but it's never been that bad anywhere else. By the end, hubby was laughing and asking me how I enjoyed experiencing the 1950s. Well they may have paid attention to him but I made it a point to pay the check at the end, even when they put it next to him and didn't even bother trying to put it in the middle of the damn table like most places do. The food wasn't that good. I ordered a fajita taco salad. The lettuce they used looked as if it was has been sitting out. I didn't care for the one large half of a tomato. The crust had a very nasty cooler taste like they just leave them sitting in a refrigerator and letting that recycled air get absorbed int the shell. The cheese sauce was good. Asked and paid for grill jalapeños but they were missing. Hardly had any chicken in my chicken fajita taco salad. The chips and the salsa are really good. I asked for their hottest salsa and it was unbelievably horrible. It tasted like burnt seasoning. No flavor what so ever. Good price point but that's obvious once you taste the food. I was in the area and decided to try Cancun Lagoon and ordered the Chile pablano plate. The food was ok but service was not good. I would not recommend the poblano plate as both of my poblanos were very tough to cut and I actually could not eat one of them. We have eaten at this restaurant and have gotten carry out many times but we had carry out last week and it was down right bad. Fajitas could not be recognized and chips were stale. I think they must have a new cook. The very nice hostess was also gone. We are done with Cancun Lagoon. read more

Probably the best Mexican restaurant in Gallatin and one of the better ones in middle Tennessee. However, I had just returned from New Mexico and this place just does not compare to there. My family was happier with their meals as they had not been in NM with me. I had the Carnitas dinner and it was good. The menu is much more varied than your average Mexican restaurant and you can try some new flavors. The staff was nice and attentive. I had many great memories in this building from when it was a Pizza Hut during my childhood. Feeling a little nostalgic and after reading some other yelp reviews, I decided to try Cancun Lagoon. The decor inside has changed and no longer feels like a Pizza Hut... It's bright, fun, and feels like a Mexican restaurant. The service is friendly and attentive. Chips and salsa started it off. The salsa was a bit too savory for my taste, but it was flavorful with a slight kick. The chips were crunchy, but didn't seem fresh. I ordered mixed chicken and steak fajitas. A generous portion came to my table still sizzling. The flavor was great, but some of the steak was very tough and unchewable. There were some great pieces of steak mixed in and those were excellent. The beans and rice were excellent as well. I have to give Dos Margaritas (my favorite Gallatin Mexican eating establishment) the edge in food flavor, but service here was more attentive and personable at Cancun Lagoon. Overall a good Mexican experience, but I still wish I could go back to the days of getting a free Personal Pan Pizza at this old Pizza Hut location because they hardly ever made the 5 minute guarantee. read more

I asked for fajitas with corn tortillas the corn tortillas are steamed came out so hot they fell apart and so I asked for some flour tortillas and they charged me 1.50 for them I complained was met with lousy service even after I explained. So for $1,50 they lost a customer! I am sorry but fajitas have to be put into a tortillas of some kind to eat this really is disappointing there service has gone downhill! I will start with the seating in the booths, they need to be fixed, feels like sitting on raw lumber, and even with the vinyl coverings, extremely uncomfortable. The food was bland and I had the worst steak I have ever had in my life. The rice was flavorless, and the beans were bland as well. How is that even possible? So we went to Cancun Lagoon because my wife had received a gift certificate from a secret pal. We had high hopes after reading the reviews that this would be a nice dinner and a night out for us. Low and behold, I was not impressed. We started off the meal with the complimentary chips and salsa that are brought to the table at many a Mexican restaurant. The salsa was way to hot and basically inedible! So we look at the menu and decided to order the Avocado Fresca which we thought might help cut the heat. The appetizer arrived in a goblet and was just plain boring looking. No color, kind of pale and had 3 chips sticking in the top for presentation. What started out as a nice treat, once again ended up being extremely hot about half way through. Once again, it was something that we could not eat because of the heat. Now I can take heat to a certain extent, but when it becomes painful, I will not eat it! We moved on to our entrees. I ordered the Deluxe Quesadilla while my wife ordered enchiladas. When the entrees arrived, once again we knew something was wrong. It just lacked any color and was kind of gray. My quesadilla was nothing more than a burrito folded in half swimming in grease. There was no crispiness to the tortilla like a normal quesadilla is. The meal came with a small salad and an order of guacamole, that was not listed anywhere on the menu, so I ordered a side of beans and rice. My wife's enchiladas really looked bad. It was nothing more than fajita meat piled on top of enchiladas creating a plate of mush. Ok now to service! The hostess who set us was really sweet and pleasant. Eventually a waiter came by and took our orders. When he brought the meal, I had to remind him of the sides that I ordered. He never returned to our table to ask if everything was fine, never offered refills on the drinks and then we had to chase him down to get a bill. Ok, all in all I will never go back to this restaurant and I encourage others to think twice before eating there. Although the majority of the reviews were good, I was not pleased. It just might have been a bad day for them and I can understand. But one bad day for a customer leaves a lasting memory and a bad taste in ones mouth! read more
