Best Mexican food in the area. Margaritas are yummy, love the colorful salt on the rim. I love how they give you a little bottle of salsa and bowls for each person so you don't run out. The hard shell tacos are ok, shells seem store bought. Ceviche is good, but needs a little more flavor.. missing cilantro, lime and a little salt. The food was good. Very friendly staff. Had the chili cheese relleno and the chorizo enchilada, off the ala cart menu. The chourico has some heat to it and it's Mexican chourico not Mediterranean, which has a totally different flavor. My husband had the beef burrito and he was satisfied. This is a chain restaurant so it's more Tex/Mex food. The chips were crispy and thin and the salsa is mildly spiced. The queso is delicious and mildly spiced. Nothing to shout out about. We were very hungry so we needed to just eat. The service was slow, but the wait staff was very friendly. The price are compatible with other Mexican restaurants. It seems like Friday night is not the best time to visit this place. They were slammed, despite nasty weather, and we had to wait 10-15 minutes for our table to be cleaned off and menus brought to us. It took a long time to get our food, and mine wasn't hot or correct. However, after waiting 45 minutes I ate it anyway. I was so hungry! Our server was trying her best to be attentive and timely, but it was just too many people for the amount of staff they had on the floor. Hands down the worst Mexican food we have ever had. The margarita was lime green and tasted like a juicebox. A "bowl" of guacamole for $8 was in a cup. I can't imagine what the half size was, a spoonful?? I asked the server if she brought the correct size and she said yes. Food was bland and every meal tasted exactly the same, just displayed differently. Spent over $100 on our family of 6 with all the plates still half when leaving. The Service: It took forever for the server to get the drink order even taken. After waiting a good 10 minutes for a drink order, we were ready to order our food and the server just walked away and didn't return for another 10 minutes. The food: The food was good. Definitely not the best but eatable. The churros were burnt so that was weird. The rice and beans didn't have much flavor. The Chicken Burrito Supreme had great chicken and the lettuce was fresh. The Style: The restaurant is very clean on the inside and quite spacious in fact. Not too loud which was very nice. The back wall has a very nice full bar setup. I didn't try the drinks but the selection very nice from the low to the high quality. Restrooms are next, 2 words...no toilet paper. Overall: Not too bad. My cousin and I visited at an odd time, but was still within the lunch period. The outside of the building could use some TLC, but the inside was sophisticated. We sat down immediately and was greeted shortly after. Our waiter was awesome. He was very attentive and appreciative. We are an elderly couple that ate lunch there today and food was great compared to other restaurants that have recreated dishes and their menu reflecting the state of economy. Friday night is $5 pitchers of beer, wow! our service was excellent and the chips were served warm and salsa was good but not spicy. If I could put a zero star review I would, my boyfriend, his sister and I went to eat at this place and everything was fine until we sat down and told our waiter that his sister wasn't eating because she just got her wisdom teeth out and after we said that we never seen our waiter again. We had 5 different people who worked there come up to us and ask why she wasn't eating and they were just walking around looking at us like we did something wrong. If you are looking for an average Mexican restaurant with convenient access to the interstate, Don Carlos will not be a total disappointment. My experience with this restaurant is usually pretty good. My only complaint has been the service. Our most recent visit had us waiting at the table at least 20 minutes before being visited by our server. I also believe that other Mexican restaurants in the Daphne-Spanish Fort area have better tasting food. All in all, Don Carlos is adequate if you are looking to get your Mexican fix. read more

My wife have eaten here numerous times, but the time that impressed me the most was when I invited my daughter, her husband and our little one year old granddaughter to lunch. The staff there was very patient and courteous throughout our visit and to be fair they are always glad that you come to their restaurant. They have very good apps/dips that are very reasonably priced as well as generously portioned. Their menu is expansive to say the least which makes it hard to choose what to get (I recommend everything). Our waiter kept the table up with apps, tea, water and food. We went on a Saturday and table service was no problem. We usually eat here once a month and have NEVER been disappointed with the service, food, atmosphere or prices. My wife went there for a "girls night" and came home fuming about the service, the food, and the misrepresentation of the prices. The waitress did not explain the prices of the margaritas fully. She told my wife that a strawberry margarita fell under the same Thursday $1.95 margarita special, and when she got the bill, she discovered that she was charged $10!! When my wife told the manager about the situation, he offered to discount the drink by about $1.90. Really?! You ask for help and they give so much more. My wife also told me that the waitress was rushing her party out of the restaurant. Well, she wasn't physically pushing her out of the building, but when the waitress gives you the bill while you are still eating, or she takes plates from the table with whole entrées on them, you kind of get the hint. The waitress didn't ask if they wanted more drinks, food, or desert. What was the huge hurry? According to my wife, the food was mediocre at best ,but the lack of customer service is what will keep her from returning. I almost didn't go since it was my wife's birthday and the reviews on Yelp weren't very good, but we wanted Mexican and something in Daphne. The hostess seemed a bit indifferent but not rude. Was disappointed they didn't have a birthday dessert, but most places don't. The waiter was polite and attentive. The chips were ok, as was the sauce--nothing special. My enchiladas were okay as well, though the steak 'topping' didn't seem to work (it was just too busy). The rice was a little bland, but the beans were warm and good. My wife had loaded nachos with steak, and she liked it a great deal. My daughter had shrimp tacos, and they were really plentiful--with tasty shrimp. So while this review is more like a 3.5 than a 4, I think this is an okay Mexican place and the best within 20 minutes of Daphne. That's not saying a great deal since the 3-4 others are not good at all, but I'd say Don Carlos is a bit above just being 'ok' and just shy of making me a fan. Although the staff has undergone recent pruning and growth, everyone is friendly and they are good at remembering what you like to eat/drink and sit. This is the worst experience ever. First table wobbled then put us by he door where a waitress decided to talk to her firmed with the door open in 50* weather. Yelp add had $1.95 margaritas on Saturday from 3-9pm. Manager kept saying not our ad. He would not even honor price. The food was over priced. I got the carne Asada tacos on corn tortillas.
