one of Don's jackets
Rachelle B.

I had been to the old location a few times, but only tried their new one in the Sydney River plaza on an overcast, cool Saturday in July for lunch after 1pm. The place was mostly empty with tons of tables and booths, and capacity for well over 100. Typical sports bar atmosphere with one of Don's framed jackets hanging in the entrance way, TVs, other memorabilia such as a crazy, giant helmet on the wall, some natural lighting coming in, but relatively basic overall. Friendly staff. My mother tried their Mexican Dip (cream cheese & salsa served hot with nacho & pita triangles) which wasn't bad, had a decent flavor. I don't see prices on their online menu though. I tried their potato skins minus the bacon, which come in jacket/full 'boat' form, which I actually prefer over the sliced pieces of potato. They were as basic as can be, but fine, no complaints. 2nd visit: supper on Heritage Day (Feb 2018). My parents and I drove into Sydney from Sydney River to go to Montana's, but the lineup was pretty long, then the same as Swiss Chalet. We drove back to Sydney River to see if Ziggy's was open, it was not, and so we settled on Cherry's, knowing we like it, but just nothing special. It wasn't busy at all, with maybe ten or a dozen tables taken out of the many more. Pretty fast service. I tried the chicken fajita wrap with peppers, onion, cheese, salsa, sour cream, which was good and what you'd expect. Side garden salad instead of fries was just your typical salad. My mother tried the 2 pc fish & chips, and she is not a big eater normally, so took one filet to go, because the portion was quite large. My father had a burger (the Great White North by looks of the online menu?) and it looked and apparently was fine, not bad, not special. No prices on their online menu so not sure what we paid. When I'm visiting Sydney again, there's nothing that would bring me back here on my own, but there's nothing against it if someone else wanted to go there.

Great atmosphere..

Wasn't anywhere as good as the Don Cherry's that was in Newfoundland. The wings were terrible. I'd give it another shot though.
