I sat in the car and read a book ironically, why they had some speakeasy fun. well after maybe a half hour i looked up and my gal and another lady were by the car. The other lady said she was the owner and that we could bring our dog Augie inside. It was very kind of her, as it really wasn't expected art such a nice spot. He sat politely under the table, while we enjoyed some fun drinks, a singer that was adding to a nice night. The bookstore itself is a treat, but we were there for the speakeasy. For this you ring the doorbell outside, they come get you and give you a clue to get in. They don't make you do it if you don't want to but, that is part of the fun. We solved it and in we went. Squirrels everywhere, fun signs, chandeliers, books and light, plus beautiful cozy tables and sofa seating, giving this a great speakeasy ambiance. On the corner a piano, and to our surprise a wonderful live jazz singer, who made our experience even better. The owner happened to be there that night and came to welcomes us at our table. Really nice lady, very happy to see people enjoy the place, and she herself was there with friends having a great time. The drinks are fun, and they have a food menu too. My husband and I went into this location to pick up a few things with our older children. One of…read moreour children (12 YO) was carrying a case of Liquid Death water (obviously NA because it's water) which garnered a dirty look from one of the employees there. As we were checking out, my other child picked up a bag of potato chips to look at and the same employee yelled across the entire length of the checkout area "guys, you can't pick things up in here, this is an adult store". Both of my children were visibly embarrassed at being admonished in such a way. Now, maybe to some people this is shocking, but my kids know their parents have an occasional alcoholic beverage (gasp) so we don't see any harm in them going into the store with us. They did not touch a single bottle, walked around with us quietly as we got what we needed, and the only thing they touched was a bag of chips. I'm disappointed at the way this was handled and that the employee felt the need to embarrass my children over something that didn't even need to be said. Rather than returning here, we will continue to go back to Total Wine on the rare occasion we need to grab some drink supplies because they at least have common sense. I understand now why the store was so empty when we went.
