A mistake on the bill turned into a fiasco. We could easily have afforded to pay the difference but it was the principle and the snarky attitude that turned us off. My mom and I stopped here for an early lunch, they were just switching over from the breakfast menu. We were seated in a booth, in a not-too crowded dining room. But not so empty that it was awkward either. Just right, really, with a few groups that were definitely regulars. Our friendly waitress was well seasoned and knew what we would want before we had to ask. We both got the Sizzlin Cobb Salad, mine with ranch and hers with poppy seed. I have to say it was one of the best salads I've had in a long time. First off it was huge. It also came with 2 garlic breadsticks what were warmed. Amazing. The salad had plenty of bacon, chicken and boiled egg. Lots of tomato and almonds too. The iceberg was cold and fresh. I liked that the dressing came on the side, and I could use the cute little individual pitcher to pour on the amount I wanted. We also shared some onion rings, which were very tasty. Definitely not what it used to be. Menu has changed, prices have gone up a lot. The place is in dire need of a remodel. Booths are very uncomfortable. You sink down really low because there is no padding left. Seems like there's high turnover and the servers are loud and obnoxious in the back and you can hear EVERYTHING they say. I'd probably do carry out on some of the staple items like the Big buster and the patty melt. read more

Was looking for a restaurant that wasn't fast food but not super expensive either. The menu offered many items that were less than $20 per plate. I ordered a large dinner salad containing lettuce, mandarin oranges, cucumbers and a grilled chicken breast. It was served with some roasted potato wedges and a bread stick. The honey lemon dressing was the perfect topping. My husband ordered liver and onions, one of his favorites, and had a choice of sides were onion rings, cole slaw. The service was good and our bill was a pleasant change. This is an older Halls restaurant, across from the hospital, not fancy but for a decent meal with good service it is a good choice. read more

I work at the VA hospital just down the road and order nearly twice a week. omelettes recently have been amazing. I only get sausage and cheese omelettes and lately I've noticed they are white and yellow so I know they aren't premixing they eggs which is great and my on complaint is sometines I get them and the sausage is cut up links, sometimes it's cut up patties, and sometimes it's crumble sausage. the patties and crumble sausage are good the cut up links are not my favorite but I'll still eat them. I wish there was an ala cart for just an omelet as I'm on a carnivore diet and if I could get a sausage and cheese omelet for 8 or 9$ in stead of 11 that would be nice. especially since I order 2 and don't want the hashbrowns or fruit. read more

Restaurant review This is one of those restaurants that jump back a few decades into the past to a bygone era of low prices and no-frills staff. I have been here twice and I can honestly say that the prices are amazing for 2019. Where else can you get a prime rib dinner 10 for 15 dollars or a filet mignon meal for 12 dollars. Now is this going to be Ruth Chris, of course not, but if you go in with the right expectations you won't be disappointed. They have a large parking lot adjacent to the restaurant. You can't miss the iconic sign with the real name of the restaurant "Hall's State St Prime Rib". Both times I have gone for the prime rib and I would say that the quality of the prime rib is better than any buffet I have been to but not at the level of Lawry's in Chicago. The wait staff is prompt and very friendly. The prime rib meal came with hot dinner rolls and some sort of texas toast without the garlic flavor. The main attraction was the prime rib which was cooked to medium-rare perfectly. There wasn't too much seasoning unfortunately to it so the horseradish sauce was utilized liberally. Meat was tender and juicy, however, the color was slightly pale compared to other medium rare prime rib I had in the past. The mac and cheese side is an A+ for not being the Kraft variety and you can't go wrong with a baked potato with sour cream. Overall for the price you pay it is a great experience. My wife and I went for prime rib a couple of Saturdays ago. The host was standing there sneezing and sniffing, then getting the silverware. The waitress never mentioned the special of the day. I'm three weeks into a seven week stay in Fort Wayne. This place has the most delicious salads. Obviously! Why I choose 4 stars: great food, depending on what your looking for, and service I always order a 10pc fired chicken no thighs. They readily accommodate my request and the chicken is served hot and fresh. It's seasoned well considering most places offer a blander fare. I don't generally stray to much from the chicken. I can attest the green beans are good as well. The buster platter will forever remain a favorite of my youth. The price is feasible 11.99 for the 10pc which puts them a could dollars less than traditional chicken restaurants. The building is small with easy access in and out. Efficient and friendly staff. Maybe I've had too much Parkview Hospital cafeteria food this week and my standards are unnaturally low. But the thought of a real cooked to order steak and a starch I actually recognize on the plate for under ten bucks will get an automatic four stars. I just can't get over how everywhere I've been in the Mid West fresh veggies get murdered before serving! Come on people, I'd like a little green left in my beans.... Located in a quieter area of East State St., this location serves a more comfortable atmosphere and food variety than it's counter parts such as the Triangle Park. The menu consists of an excellent variety of sandwiches, including the Big Buster, as well as a good variety of dinner options. Breakfast is served late into the day on Sundays and every night after nine. Many of the customers are regulars, but the friendly wait staff has a habit of going the extra mile and making even a first timer feel welcome. Great Don Halls to visit anytime Of the day. I usually come on a Friday night and they have wonderful inexpensive specials. I have had the go joe burger which is awesome. I've had their fish sandwich and chili which are both fantastic. and specialty salads which are subpar and I wouldn't order again. The ingredients are just mediocre. Lettuce doesn't don anything to make it appealing. The meat isn't seasoned well and the tomatoes sometimes aren't ripe and flavorless. The croutons are decent and they have ok dressing. I'd stick with the other meals In my opinion. The liver and onions is always a great choice. I just love the gravy it is cooked in. The side veggies are hit and miss with either perfect or to mushy. And their French fries are crisped perfect by under seasoned. I love the fries. Staff is usually friendly but some of the front desk staff have major attitudes. And they will tend to ignore you if you're waiting to be seated with a large table. Easy to pay and get it if there but there could be a wait when you first arrive. Depends on the time of day but this is a busy spot of town. No reservation are taken and large parties are a bit difficult for them. It's not a huge dinning area. I recommend going. We were passing by and decided to give Prime Rib a chance despite all the bad reviews we've read. I can't comment on the food because we never saw any. We were seated right away. For ten minutes staff members walked by our table ignoring us, while serving who were seated AFTER us in the nearly empty dining room. As were leaving, TBE hostess snarled at us that they would take care of us in a few minutes. So rude! read more

In town visiting for business. Saw Don Hall's factory off the main road. They offered a surf and turf meal as an October special. I ordered the special with an additional Greek salad. The Greek salad was good along with the mini loaf of bread and butter. The main course was a 6 oz rare prime rib, a skewer of grilled shrimp, mashed potatoes, and some mixed vegetables. What an awesome meal! The prime rib was perfect, the shrimp a wonderful compliment to the meal. The vegetables were fresh and cooked just right. The mini dessert with the special was really good as well. $20 total including an adult beverage was a great value. I would highly recommend Don Hall's factory to anyone wanting an outstanding prime rib and or meal. read more

This place was great! My gf, her mom and I all went here for breakfast this past Saturday and it was a really delicious breakfast! They had steak and eggs and pancakes and it was all good. I had a lunch entree, a burger with a fried egg in it, and it was a HUGE burger! I barely ate half of it and had to take the rest home. Our waitress (Diane or Diana) was awesome! Food is good and affordable as expected with a Hall's neighborhood location. I also like the cozy atmosphere. However the last two visits the service has been terrible (About two weeks ago on a Thursday evening and then again this evening -- around 8:00 both times). Both times service started out nicely but after the meals were served the servers never came back to check on me. And then, both times, after finishing my meal, I waited for right about 15 minutes for my server to bring a bill as I watched her chatting with what I assume is a regular customer in another part of the dining room. I'm here in the Fort Wayne area for work. Went to Don Halls Factory yesterday for dinner. Sat at the bar. Bartenders are very nice. Chatted about local area going-on's. Ordered 8oz prime rib for around $14. Not bad. Ive had more tender prime rib, but good luck paying $14 for it. Plus, it comes with a side salad and one side. Went to this place and had the prime rib special. It was obvious that the piece of meat was old and just came out of the microwave. It had that grey microwaved color to it. It was also barely warm by the time it was served. We didn't end updating for either of the prime rib meals. Pretty sad considering prime rib is part of the name of the restaurant. I will not ever go back. We were also on a list to get a table but somehow they forgot about us and seated people that got they're after us.
