Did Don Julio's live up to the hype? Can any restaurant ranked #10 in the world by World's Best Restaurants -- and crowned #1 steakhouse three consecutive years -- truly live up to its reputation? I'd say yes, and then some. A word of advice: sit inside. That's where the magic happens. The open-flame grills roaring indoors create an incredible ambiance -- intimate, lively, and unlike anything else. The outdoor seating is charming in its own right (cozy blankets draped over every chair), but the interior is the real experience. Service was exceptional. Before we even ordered, our waiter personally walked us through the kitchen to introduce us to the various cuts on display -- a thoughtful touch that made the whole meal feel like an event. We settled on the ribeye and one other cut, with the ribeye stealing the show: thick, juicy, and cooked to perfection over open flame. To top it all off, the meal came with complimentary champagne, chorizo, empanadas, and dessert -- generous extras that made an already outstanding dinner feel truly special.
Number 1 steakhouse and number 10 restaurant in the world. It's not often that the actual experience meets the hype and expectations. This was one of those moments. This was one of the things I was most looking forward to on this trip, and I made a reservation through our hotel months in advance. Fantastic meal overall. The steaks were great. Service was on point right from the beginning when they gave us wine and yummy corn empanadas when we arrived. The chocolate-covered dulce de leche at the end was delectable.
We thought we could get a dinner reservation with maybe a week's advance but found out they are 3 months out when we tried in February. We were able to get a first seating Lunch reservation 3 weeks in advance. Arrived on a Saturday for an 11 am reservation and already was starting to pick up. We were met with a complimentary glass of Chandon Brut (with refills) which was a nice touch. Also, there was a pumpkin mini empanada that was being passed out as we waited to be seated. Didn't taste it but heard comments from others that were enjoying it. We were seated outside promptly at 11. Inviting outdoor Dining with tablecloths. A plethora of different cuts of steak! We ended up going with the Ribeye (Ojo de Bife)and noticed that many were sharing their steak. When we saw 500 grams (or over a pound) for the Ribeye and many of the cuts, we understood why. Steak came out a perfect medium rare (as recommended)-tender with that char/smoke flavor-delicious! Our side salad was enjoyed. House baked bread with tasty dips as well a complimentary tomato with sauce (off menu-cant remember name) appetizer were a great start to our meal. Service was exceptional from beginning to end including the table side steak carving. Believe the hype, this is the Parrilla in Buenos Aires!
The food was amazing. I've been trying different type of restaurants in Argentina. It was a little bit hard for me to find a good one, but this one for sure is high-quality not disappointed.
We celebrated a birthday at Don Julio Parrilla with reservations booked weeks in advance. We were part of the first seating, and the entire operation ran incredibly smoothly. While waiting the very minimal time for our table, we were treated to free Prosecco and mini empanadas--I actually managed to enjoy almost two glasses before we were seated! Indoor dining seems to be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis based on your reservation time. We were given an outdoor table, which offered a lovely atmosphere, but it does come with a significant caveat. While Palermo is undeniably one of the nicer neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, its popularity with tourists makes it a target for pickpockets and scammers. If you are dining outside, you need to remain vigilant. During our meal, we witnessed a specific scam happen twice: individuals selling socks would approach outdoor tables and casually lay a few pairs down right over people's belongings. When they picked their merchandise back up, they would subtly swipe whatever was underneath. Be extremely careful and absolutely do not leave your phone or wallet resting on the table. One table managed to get their phone back only after chasing the thief down for several blocks, while an older group nearby wasn't as lucky. To the restaurant's credit, the staff actively pushes these individuals away when they spot them bothering customers, and there was a police officer stationed near the entrance for the entirety of our meal. I never felt unsafe dining there or walking around the area, but falling victim to a scam can easily ruin an evening. If you want a more relaxed experience where you don't have to keep your guard up as much, I highly recommend aiming for an indoor table. Moving on to the meal itself, It absolutely lives up to the hype. We shared the ribeye, and it was fantastic. I might not go so far as to call it the absolute best steak in the world, having had my fair share of great cuts across NYC, LA, Japan, Korea, and Australia, but the quality was undeniable and it was cooked perfectly. The accompanying sauces were excellent, and I absolutely loved the grilled cheese and the house-grown grilled peppers. If you are seated outside, take a moment to step inside, perhaps to use the restroom, just to see the open kitchen and the magnificent wine cellar downstairs. It is incredible to witness the sheer care they put into cooking the meats. What truly sets Don Julio apart, however, is the staff. They are extremely friendly and welcoming, and the service is easily among the best of any restaurant I have visited in the world. To celebrate the birthday, they generously comped one of our appetizers and provided a beautiful dessert. It was an incredibly kind gesture they didn't have to do, and we deeply appreciated the caring hospitality. This is the exact type of restaurant I will always want to come back to whenever I am in Buenos Aires; the food is incredible, but the service is even better.
This one? A big disappointment. And yeah, I might catch some heat for saying it. It's trendy, all over social media, crowned by many as the best parrilla in Buenos Aires supposedly even a Michelin star winner. So naturally, the bar was set high. Maybe too high. I'm not saying the food was terrible. It wasn't. It just didn't shine. Nothing on the plate made me pause, nothing made me lean back and say, "Okay, now I get it." Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. Maybe it was an off night. But when you walk into a place with that kind of reputation, you expect more than just "fine." I came without a reservation, fully aware I'd have to wait. No problem there. What did bother me, though, was watching others in line being handed bubbles, empanadas, little bites to hold them over while in the full hour I stood there, not once was I offered anything. Maybe it was an oversight. Maybe not. But standing there empty-handed while others were being catered to didn't feel great. I wish I had more to say more praise, more critique, more something. But honestly, there just isn't much else. It didn't offend. It just didn't impress. And sometimes, that's the bigger letdown
Pretty well priced for a Michelin star place in South America. the service was great, and the welcome empanada was so impressing, my mother ordered additional during the meal. the ambiance was fantastic, although we were dining with all tourists, it still gave a nice feel of BA. we ordered a ton of meats and loved the chimichurris. The bread was great but the weird green sauce/soup was so bitter
On a 1-month getaway, other than lodging and air, I'd planned very little. Don Julio was the sole spot I'd planned to dine at, making 3pm reservations for an outdoor table well in advance of my trip. I'd read about Don Julio and noted its Michelin star but had no expectations other than a great meat meal at an authentic Argentinian parilla (steakhouse). And, despite the late hour at which Argentinians generally dine, I'd opted for a late afternoon seating in anticipation of how full I'd be when leaving. With outdoor temperatures approaching 90 degrees I was relieved to be greeted with a glass of champagne and follow the hostess to a table for 4, inside the restaurant. From there? Everything was just as perfect as that introduction. On a walking tour days earlier my guide had pointed out Don Julio noting their popularity and prices. My group and another person on the tour had upcoming reservations there and he assured us it was good and we'd enjoy it but made the point that the same experience can be had all over Buenos Aires at a lesser cost. Having now had the Don Julio experience and experienced several other parilla I concur with only part of his comment: One can have a similar experience and meal elsewhere but one cannot have the Don Julio experience. It's worth having. The staff at Don Julio is unlike the staff at any other Argentinian restaurant. Their level of attentiveness is outstanding. Without getting into the nitty gritty of the excellent meal and service I will say that they feature a very big menu and an even bigger wine list. My table of 4 sampled Rib-eye, Tenderloin, and Prime Rib with various tomato accompaniments, bread, wine, and... ah, who knows? The whole experience was dreamy and one of my fondest membranes of my vacation. Expensive for Argentina, sure, but with tip and wine my meal for 4 ran just under $400; Almost reason enough to fly to Buenos Aires. Don Julio was an experience I'd regret having missed.
One of the most famous steakhouses in the world with great service. My booking is at 10:30pm and when I arrived a bit early, I was immediately greeted with an empanada and a glass of sparkling wine while I wait. They showed me the wine cellar on the way in which is quite an impressive collection. Steak portions are generally huge in Argentina so I got the half portion rib eye. Extremely well prepared with nice condiments - compared to New York steakhouses it has a more charcoal grilled flavor. One thing to pick on is while the steak knife looks pretty it is a bit difficult to use. Overall the experience is great and it is not too expensive for a fine dining experience at one of the best restaurants in the world. Reserve for a table early though as I booked almost a month early but I still only managed to get a 10:30pm table (despite they eat late in Argentina)
Not worth the hype in my opinion although my meal was good. The service was quick and effective but I wouldn't rate it in the worlds best steaks.
I was a bit wary when coming in because I saw mixed reviews on Reddit and this spot only boasts a 4.4 on Google Maps. However, as a one Michelin star steakhouse and rated number one in the world, I had to give it a go while in Buenos Aires. I arrived a bit late to my reservation as there was a bit of traffic on the way. However, they were kind enough to seat me still and handed me a glass of complimentary champagne while waiting for the table to clear. Before seating, they gave me a tour of the meat grill and the downstairs wine cellar as well. My seat was outside (where the majority of the seats were), but I didn't mind it as it was quite nice outside. As for the actual food, I asked for a "bife de chorizo ancho, jugoso tirando a punto" - an Argentine sirloin, wide side, rare leaning towards medium. ChatGPT said this would be the juiciest cut, and I was really impressed by the steak. It was very sizable, and most bites were extremely flavorful. My only pet peeve is that there were some bites that were a bit chewier and tougher, but in hindsight it's really hard to get such a large steak cooked fully perfectly. Overall I had quite a solid experience at Don Julio and would come back again if I were in Buenos Aires.
Nice space, a bit of a revolving door with block set seating times to fit in as many people as possible. After eating 4 Asados in country before we ate here we had tried a variety of styles of cooking. We loved the Proveleta and skirt steak (seasoning and cook were perfect). The rest of the meal was good. This was the first arugula salad with Parmesan that I've ever asked for seconds on! Because we ordered the set menu we were unable to do a wine pairing with it which was very confusing, that should be the easiest to do a pairing with. We didn't know what courses were being served with the set menu so we asked the sommelier to choose wines for each course but they wouldn't, they focused more on our tastes versus helping us to find the best for each course.
We went here for lunch. Had a reservation for 1:30 PM and were seated at 1:55. we had a table on the gallery upstairs. ordered the large menu with wine pairing. everything was great , except that our ribeye was medium instead of medium rare.'c They corrected this immediately .Service was excellent and so was the good and wine.

We came with high expectations and the worlds best steak did not disappoint! Our dinner reservation was 1130pm. We arrived at 1030pm and waited around for a table. During this time, we were offered wine and empanadas to tide us over while we waited. Our server spoke decent English. We got the chorizo, steak, grilled asparagus to share. The steak was perfect and paired well with wine. The grilled asparagus was fresh and helped to cut through the meat. The restaurant was extremely busy even though it was close to midnight. Prices are definitely on the high side, but it was worth it! read more

we dined in the wine cellar and it was amazing. the steak cuts are huge, which makes for a lot of leftovers, but everything was prepared very well and the servers were wonderful. i would recommend for anyone that's wants a great evening out read more

Absolutely the best steakhouse I've been to! We were so lucky to have just walked in at around 2:30pm and was seated outside right away. The service was amazing, the place was awesome and the food!! We weren't that hungry so we split a salad and beef rib, half a bottle of wine and mango dessert. The most perfect meal I've had! They gave us bread, dipping sauces and the best empanada I've ever tasted! And the wine was really good! Definitely a "must" go to when Buenos Aires. read more

A visit to Buenos Aires is incomplete without this experience! Be sure to make a reservation in advance. Upon arrival, you'll be warmly welcomed by the friendly staff and treated to a glass (or more) of champagne. Once seated, you'll enjoy a complimentary small empanada and freshly baked warm bread. We indulged in the arugula and Parmesan salad, the tira asado, a perfectly cooked pork chop, and the best French fries I've ever tasted, along with creamy mashed potatoes. read more

3.5/5 stars. We wanted to try this spot since it is a 1 Michelin star and #10 on the World's 50 Best Restaurants. Came here for lunch (made reservations in advance). They greeted us with complimentary champagne then brought us to our table. We then got complimentary appetizers: 1 tomato to share, a small empanada each, and bread. We ordered additional appetizers: the cheese plate and eggplant. The cheeses were surprisingly good, except the blue cheese one (I personally don't like super pungent cheeses). I didn't like the eggplant since it was too sour. For the meats, we got the 1/2 short rib and entrecot and ordered medium rare. They provided sauces on the side. I didn't really like the short rib. It was too fatty and not tender. The entrecot was solid, but wasn't mind blowing. A few bites were tasty, but other parts were drier and were on the well-cooked side. The entrecot was huge, so I was stuffed. For dessert, we got the papaya and cheese. The papaya was very sweet. To end the meal, they gave us this chocolate-covered dulce de leche dessert, which was also very sweet. I still enjoyed it cuz it was chocolate. Overall, I don't think this spot is worth the price. The meats should be the star of the show, but for me and my bf, the meats were average and not memorable read more

One of the hottest if not hottest reservations in Buenos Aires. Which wasn't easy to snag. But with a tons of persistence and perseverance, we made the list. By the time we arrived there was a nice line already formed alongside the building. We verified our name on the list and too joined the line. To our surprise we were served a glass of champagne and even topped off before being escorted to our intimate table indoors. We were greeted with an empanada seconds after being seated and they were delicious. I wouldn't say 'best in BA' but they were good. And I'll never say no to complimentary bread and the trio dip was a plus. If you take any of my advice please order a tomato salad or three. You'd be doing yourself a disservice by not. Holy fresh. The steak were very good and massive in size. Had we known ordering a portion of the size were an option, that's the way to go. I would've loved to have known that going on but here we are. Potatoes were good. But again, I'd order at least two more rounds of tomato salad. The service was impeccable. And I mean it; top notch. From the moment we were in line to the second we crossed the street. The attention to detail, friendliness, and warm welcome made for a fantastic date night. We were even given a private tour of their wine cellar topped with a tasting. Our first experience at Don Julio did not disappoint. read more
There is a reason Don Julio is a must, it 100% lives up to expectations. The quality of the food, service, wine, and the overall experience was spot on. We ordered the tomahawk, mashed potatoes, arugula salad. The steak was perfect. Also if you like your meat on the medium rare side they REALLY do cook it medium rare. The sides were good! They ran out of oyster mushrooms so clearly that was a seasonal hit of the day. We also had dessert which was a simple ice cream with chocolate sauce. Incredibly delicious for an extremely common dessert! Totally worth it and compared to USA steak prices it's a steal! read more
I was expecting more, honestly. We racked up a $200+ bill on dinner for two (we didn't even get a bottle of wine). The steaks were good but not best restaurant in the world quality. We eat steak like this all the time at home, so don't fly to Argentina for the steak (lol). The fries were good, the ice cream was good. Nothing was amazing. The service was mostly good. Our waiter was good, the first waiter was kind of making fun of us for not speaking Spanish. Whatever... the restaurant is cramped and tables are right on top of each other. The vibe was kind of off, as I felt like the couple sitting 6 inches away from us were eavesdropping the whole time. Meh overall. read more
Celebrated my sister's birthday here and it was one of the best meals I've ever eaten. Loved how everyone gets a welcome glass of wine upon check in plus a mini empanada while waiting. The steak was cooked to perfection. The arugula salad (non pictured) was also incredible and much needed with all the meat. Also tried the oyster mushrooms, mashed potatoes, and fries. Apart from the arugula salad, the fries were my favourite side. Little bit salty for my taste but cooked very well. Mushrooms and mashed potatoes were a bit bland but did not take away from the experience. Service was great and they even have a special birthday dessert you can't order from the menu. The staff coming out to sing happy birthday made it very special! read more
This place is listed as the number 1 steakhouse in the world, and was just awarded their first Michelin Star (must be for something other than their steaks) This took an act of congress to actually get a reservation, they don't know how to answer phones at the restaurant, they don't know how to respond to online requests at the restaurant. Luckily we got there an hour before they closed. We ordered 3 of their best steak cuts flank steak, beef short rib, and prime rib (instead of a ribeye), and they should get out of the steak grilling and stick with their sausages, melted cheese, french fries, and their rolls and dipping sauces as those were delectable and flavorsome. Their steaks were laughable, loaded with gristle, not that tender but were cooked perfectly. For all of the hype this place brings I had higher expectations. The service was top notch, everything except the steaks were amazing. Again for the world's best steak house I am still appalled of the low quality this place brings to the steak industry. Prices were cheap as the USD to Argentinian Pesos exchange was very strong. Will never return but was glad I got to see how steaks compare to the US and other parts of the world and so far this place was sad. read more

this was my first ever michelin star restaurant and don julio was a great experience. we did not have a reservation so we went right when the restaurant opened to get on the waitlist. luckily, there was availability that afternoon for a same day reservation and the hostesses were very friendly. when we returned at the time for our reservation, we got free champagne and mini empanadas. once seated, we also got free bread and sauces (the tomato salsa was absolutely fire) and a free small heirloom salad. my friends and i each ordered one steak and we ordered 2 salads to share. from a portion standpoint, this was a really good amount of food for us and we were all stuffed after, especially considering the appetizers as well. the bread and tomato salsa was an unexpected favorite for me, especially since it was free. the heirloom tomato salad (full size) was also absolutely delicious. their tomatoes are grown organically and the sauce is divine. the steak was great as well, but i feel that my friends' and my steaks cooked a bit inconsistently. that said, the steaks were all still very good. we sat outside by the street and it was a very cute vibe. the interior seating area is not as big. also note that there are only 2 womens restrooms which i thought was strange for such a large restaurant. overall, you are definitely paying for the service and the name/quality of don julio. however, if you have the opportunity to visit buenos aires and dine here, i would highly recommend it. definitely an unforgettable experience! read more

I am traveling in Buenos Aires and my friends were raving about this place, will not stop and we had our hotel book us a table. I get it. From the moment we arrived they gave us a small glass of champagne. We had the best table in the restaurant. The service was impeccable shout out to Cristian our server. While I don't really eat red meat I made an exception here. I ordered the tomahawk steak and it wasn't the best I've ever had, but the service like I said earlier made up for everything. I did order the tomato carpaccio- bomb! The grilled zucchini was amazing and the eggplant was great as well. I'm not sure if I'll ever go back since red meat is not my thing. But I had to review this place for the employees. read more
Well, I was extremely disappointed in Don Julio's and I didn't even get to try their food. I had a reservation for 1 for 10:30pm this evening, arrived early and checked in. 10:45 asked for an approximate update on how much longer and I was told that my table was being made ready. In the meantime they had a staff member give me a tour of the wine cellar which was very obviously to buy time. Then I was taken back outside and given a blanket (it was freezing outside and everyone is waiting outside to be seated). It passes 11 and I'm still waiting for my table so I call a car to take me back to my hotel. A few mins before my car arrives they said they were ready for me but at that point I had already called the car and had been waiting outside for about 45 mins in the cold. The hostess was apologetic and asked if I could come back tomorrow but I'm leaving BA. I also noticed there were multiple parties who arrived after me (including) a party of two who were sat before me - I obviously was only a party of one and perhaps they had reservations before me but that was concerning as well. I would have appreciated someone just being upfront about the wait time, but 40+ mins waiting outside in the cold is my limit. read more
While in Argentina and Chile we ate a lot of steak. We could not leave without trying Don Julio which is touted to be the best steak restaurant in the world. We made a reservation for a group of 4 a month before and I would recommend that you don't miss this place. We were seated outside but it was a cool evening and were seated under a covered area in case of rain. Champagne was served and complimentary to start the night. We ordered two rib eyes, One Fillet Mignon, and Short Ribs. All of them were outstanding and far superior to the steaks we had eaten at other restaurants on our trip. Definitely try any side dish with tomatoes, another. The salads were dressed perfectly. The waiter was super helpful and help us select wines for our meal. Don't miss dessert... we got two to share. We made a mistake though. There was a tomato tasting menu (menu in the pics). I thought it was a vegetarian option. When I looked at it more carefully when I got home I thought, Damn, We should have done this- The price point and opportunity to try many small bites would have been amazing... Oh well, a good excuse to go back to Buenos Aires! read more

This is one of the best meals I've ever had. We didn't have a reservation, but we were lucky enough to get squeezed in after waiting about 30 minutes. It was well-worth the wait! We ate outside under a canopy that was partially covered by a beautifully lit tree. It was a really romantic setting. The server was incredible and made sure we were never wanting for anything. They always made sure we had wine, bread, and sauces and that everything was tasting good and exactly what we ordered. We started with bread and then got appetizers (empanadas and a meat sampler), followed by mains (steak), and dessert (crepes). Literally everything we ate was amazing (including all the different sauces that accompanied the meal!). read more

Don Julio is often considered the best steak house in the world. It's expressed in every bite of food, on the ambiance of the rooms, and the accessability for vegetarians. They don't just provide food, they provide a wonderful experience. The steaks are the stars of the show. You can order most cuts if beef from ribeye to flank, ribs to t bones. They're savory, succulent, and perfectly cooked. There's even a menu focusing on tomatoes. A four course tomato based menu features tomato complimented by different cuts of meat each time. It's a wonderful way to express their creativity in a unique way for a steak house. Vegetarians will love it here. There's a full vegetarian side dish menu in addition to a four course tomato menu without meat. This is truly a restaurant for everyone...if you can get a reservation. The best way to do that is by texting their WhatsApp number directly, not by using their website - although either works. Sit inside if you can. Outside can get hot or drippy in the rain. Plus inside you can watch the dishes being prepared, or maybe be seated in the tomato room. That room is covered in tomatoes on the vine decorating walls and chandeliers. The only improvements that could be made here are in the wait staff. Some team members are pretty soft spoken or too passive. That aside, the empanadas are delicious, the steaks are wonderful, and having so many vegetarian options sets this establishment apart. read more

No wonder it is in the top 5 restaurants in Latin America. We made reservations more than a month in advance, we were a party of 5, so couldn't take any chances. While waiting to be seated we were welcomed with complimentary champagne to toast for one of the best meals in town. We ordered 3 different types of meat or "Cortes" all of which were delicious. I'm not sure you can go wrong with any, but if you ask me for my favourite I'll definitely say el vacio. We got help from the waiter to pair or meal with wine and then got lucky enough to be invited to visit the wine cellar and get a small private tour. Make sure you make room for dessert as you need to try their ice cream! read more
The location, decor and seating areas are super special. It felt private even in the open. This is a proper steakhouse- open grilling and prep stations, dark wood, fresh tomatoes everywhere The service is stellar. From the very knowledgeable sommelier to the servers we felt special and were treated with professionalism. The way the dishes were presented table side was a real treat. The food was excellent. They say ask for rare in Buenos Aires if you really want it medium. Not true here. They cook exactly as specified. Well done! read more

Great wine cellar. They have great ambiance. Their steaks are good...good flavor but compared to Texas steaks, they are not as tender. The service was 5 star. To getva,reservation, you have to walk in as the restaurant is packed all day. read more
It's a renovated old house, they welcome you with a glass of Chandon. We had a tour of the wine cellars, very nice and full of option from 1937 up to this days Service are very friendly and professional When you are in your table they brought a tomato topped with very good olive oil and a pinch of salt (delicious) also a piece of home made bread and beef empanadas ( no to special) we ordered sausage, ojo de bife (rib eye stk) and vacío (flank stk) perfectly cooked Also French fries and one bottle of Argentine Bonarda . The meat was very tender and flavorful . Very nice experience but even if for tourist are very accessible for the economy situation in the country the price it's a bite high. My husband and I were excited to eat here after making a reservation a few months in advance before our trip to Buenos Aires and Patagonia. I thought the champagne upon check in was a nice added touch, the sommelier was wonderful and helpful in making a decision on Malbec. Downside - the panhandling at the outdoor patio while eating wasn't the greatest but it's to be expected and the server instead of packing up the ribeye as requested tossed it out only packing my husbands meal. The biggest letdown for us was biting into both of our steaks (ribeye and rump), looking at eachother, and stating that we both expected to taste the best steak of our lives - but it in fact wasn't. Both were cooked medium but tasted dry. Steak was better than average but not the best and certainly well over-priced (our bill was over $250 USD +). We had a better experience (and quality of meat) at La Cabrera down the road and smaller steakhouses in the Patagonia area. Overall 3.5/5.0. Fine, but not worth the price. read more

Worth. Every. Peso. Don Julio gets a lot of hype - anytime I told someone I was visiting Argentina, Don Julio would inevitably come up as a must-do. Think Peter Luger levels of hype, my NYC people. I'm so glad I listened. DJ lived up to the hype, and then some! The steak was cooked to perfection, and the sides were delicious. The whole experience was fantastic. My advice is to absolutely make a reservation ahead of time, as the line for walk-ins seemed ridiculous, even at 1130pm (which, by the way, was when my reservation was scheduled). There's a straightforward menu with different meat options (bone in, which cut, etc), as well as a number of side dishes and appetizers. Plus they serve up great bread for the table. Don't fill up on the side dishes, as the meat really needs to be the center of attention. It is truly phenomenal, every bite was amazing. They also have a great wine list, and the best part was that the meal cost me USD $70 all in, including wine. Can't beat that price for such a top notch experience! read more

Part 1: Had reservations at 11:30pm and did not get sat until 12:30am. After we got sat it took 20 minutes to get a bottle of wine served that we ordered. Right now I'm looking at the clock (1:15am) and we ordered an appetizer (chinchulin) and 2 steaks ( Short Rib and Ribeye) of which the smell and ambience are outstanding but it's taken close to 35 minutes just to get 1 appetizer. Meanwhile the drunk group behind us spilled and broke a bottle of wine on the floor and they did not remove the glass from the floor at all. Part 2: The steak and ribs showed up very quickly after and the temperature was right, however the taste of the meat was bland and boring. I've had a better steak at Denny's. It took me 10 or more times to cut with the dull knives though the "soft" part of the Ribeye. Part 3: Overall it deserves the 2 stars I have given and I'm not a picky person. Don't waste your time. Also, it's now 1:48am (2 and 1/2 hours after we were supposed to be seated and we have just barely ordered dessert which is 1 scoop of ice cream, can't be that difficult right? It showed up to the table a few minutes later and with additional flavors due to the waiter seeing that I was writing a documentary of a Yelp review. The one ice ccream called "Sambayon" was absolutely OUTSTANDING.!!! Do to the waiter and his attempt at the end to satisfy i raised it to 3 stars! He really tried hard to satisfy once he saw that i was writing this review. I hope you all have a better experience for your first time in Buenos Aires than we did! Even with a reservation made months in advance, they seated us outside during a rainstorm. There was a literal river of water running over our feet. For a Michelin starred restaurant you would think there would be some plan for weather or offer to move us inside. Nope! No apologies, compensation or solutions offered from management. It was really disappointing that what was supposed to be a highlight of our trip was ruined. read more
The process of getting into the restaurant is very interesting. You make a reservation and then you have to stand in line and wait. Once we sat down the service was attentive. I'm not from Argentina, so definitely make sure to describe the temperature of the meat properly. Our was overcooked, they graciously re cooked a new one and it made a HUGE difference. The chorizo was unmemorable, had better ones elsewhere. Personally I found other places to be better and cheaper. read more

While we had read that Don Julio was the place to go for a great Argentine dinner, it didn't live up to our expectations. We had a wonderful dinner two nights earlier at Fervor and everything felt less special than our dinner at there. There were some highlights at Don Julio. You are greeted at the door with a glass of champagne and then everyone receives a small delicious beef empanada at the table. The servers were very attentive and friendly. However, the quality of the meat wasn't as expected for a place at this very high price and reputation. If you're only going to one traditional Argentine grilled meats restaurant, I would suggest you go to Fervor instead. read more

From someone who's been to 20+ Michelin star restaurants, Don julio was a disappointed and ranks as one of the lowest, my steak was overcooked, wasn't even offered to cut into it and check after serving, a bit on the chewy side, couldn't finish. Service was lacking, waiter was nice and all but failed to come check on tables leaving customers just waiting with empty glasses or sitting way too long waiting for a simple dessert. A must do if you're in BA but make sure reserve your seat ahead of time! We took a risk and did a walk in at 4pm which was just the right time to snag a seat inside with very little wait time. While we did wait, we were served free champagne by two lovely outside hosts (I will never complain about free champagne)! The dining area inside isn't huge but was comfortable and beautiful. I loved all of the flowers inside. The server was very friendly and walked us through the best cuts of meat and choices on the menu. For a special treat you get served these edible flowers and empanadas on the house. Both were great but I did not expect those flowers to be so delicious (more flowers next time please)! We had the provoleta as an appetizer and each ordered our own steaks plus some mushrooms and asparagus on the side. Everything was fantastic but we could have listened to the server when he said we could share meat between 2 people! Either way, I left satisfied with my choices. The little chocolates at the end were a nice treat as well! This will definitely stay on my list for the next trip to BA! read more
I swear if Argentina was close, I would never eat or pay for a steak in the states. Don Julio steakhouse is a must if you're ever in Buenos Aires. The reviews don't lie. Tourists may have discovered this resto but the locals still flock to it. It was just named on of the 50 best resto in the world by The Worlds 50 Best. First, make sure you RSVP. We did not. Went for lunch and the line was long!!!! The nice thing was the restaurant served you tiny empanadas and sparking wine while you wait! What!!!!!! They kept your glass full too. I had to refuse a refill lol. My kind of place. We waited almost 2 hours I think but we strolled the neighborhood by visiting several murals (Palermo neighborhood is known for their cool murals/art) and stopped for coffee. The wait was worth it! The service is impeccable. The t-bone steak (more than enough for two people) was perfectly cooked, seared well, and juicy. The bread service was amazing. Their chimichurri is spicier than in the states. So good! It was one of the best steak I've had. Add it to your list! read more
