A must visit if you go to BA...it is the most famous steakhouse in BA....im not sure it's my favorite...as I went to Lo De Jesus and La Cabrera actually believe Lo De Jesus was better...but I believe the locals rank that number three of the three. With that said, you have to go here...I mean Messi went there the week before I was there. The food was really good...don't go there if you're a vegetarian.... A waste of time... THE LEGENDARY Don Julio!! 2020 Best Restaurant in Latin America. I was hesitant to come here, because 1. I expected it to be a tourist trap and 2. I noticed that a lot of "popular" restaurants has lowered in quality after the pandemic. That was not the case with Don Julio, I had an AMAZING meal! We came Thursday at ~3:30PM (right at the end of lunch) and were immediately seated outside with no reservations. We did not feel cold because the outdoor heaters were powerful and the tables had blankets we covered our legs with. We ordered a red blend wine, mashed potatoes, French fries, pumpkin, and three steaks: Filet Mignon (Lomo), Ojo De Bife, Asado. Everything from the olive oil to the meats to the complementary pre-meal empanada was delicious. A few "not-so-great" parts of an otherwise fantastic meal: Our plates were a bit dirty, so we asked the server to change them out. He just took them to his booth, wiped them, and gave them back to us. Ick. But I guess this must be normal in Argentina? Unfortunately they no longer serve non-red meat entrees (no chicken or seafood!). My sister had to order the pumpkin appetizer, which wasn't very good. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!! and dont waste your money either. They were kind enough to let me walk in even though reservations are often required weeks in advanced. To start it off, they offered champagne to everyone waiting...everyone except for I. It was as if they were going out of their way to provide me poor service. Maybe because I am a foreigner, who knows. Secondly, I am taken yo my table and order my meal and a wine. Wine was never delivered to my table until I asked 20 minutes later. When it finally arrived, it was too cold to drink. It was muted and had no way of breathing. It was a closed wine because of improper serving/storage. Then, the food comes. The Ribeye and French Fries. I have never paid so much for a rubber steak. It's appalling. $98 for a gummy steak is offensive. The french fries also tasted like it was wrapped in a plastic seal. No crunch, no taste, just rubbery. This experience was not only disappointing, but revolting too. To think this is a Michelin Star or even a recommended restaurant in Buenos Aires is disgraceful. Every travel website, every travel blog and many of our friends recommend Don Julio as THE parrilla experience in Buenos Aires so I was disappointed when I saw there was no reservation available for the week we were going to be in BA. That was about 2 months prior to our trip. About 2 weeks prior to our trip, I went on the online reservation site again and I was able to put myself on a list to request for a table. I did so and I received an email about a week later to confirm my request. The food did not disappoint us. Between the 2 of us, we had a ribeye, chorizo, chitterlings, beets. They were all fabulous and cooked / grilled to perfection. I'm still savouring the chitterlings ... crispy and chewy on the outside and oozy with goodness on the inside. Without wine, including tip, we spent about ARS 60000 which is a fairly good price (after FX) for those of us who travel from many parts of the US or Canada as I truly enjoyed the food. Don Julio is great but it is also very highly choreographed so you will in and out in 2 hrs so they can accommodate the demand. Seated around us were all visitors. We had a 19:30 reservation. When we arrived, everyone in the first seating lined up outside the restaurant for about 20-30 minutes. They did serve us wine while in line and then we were seated one by one. If you are not able to get a reservation, don't be disappointed. There are many parrillas in BA with locals frequent with less than half the price. You can't come to Buenos Aires without coming to Don Julio, they said it's not about the steak, it's about the experience. Of course it's the best steak because their quality, their meat are all fresh from the local Argentina vendor to make sure they are all fresh. They also have seasonal sides depends on when you visit make sure to ask which one is seasonal, they are all from local farm. When you arrive, you were handed a glass of sparkling wine. You can have unlimited as long as you are still waiting. I didn't have reservation so the wait was about 30mins; recommend you to make one before you go. There are many choices of meat you can choose from at different price point; they aren't very cheap but you can be guaranteed good quality and a good portion. They also offer you a free empanada and a warm house bread. Service tho was ok, I had long wait because I was by myself; they seated everyone else after me that are couples but I was the last one to get in when there's no one in the line which I think was quite rude. And they are so busy, you see people running around, you don't get much attention, also feels like they are all super stressed. About a month or two before our trip to Argentina, my friend and I began making restaurant reservations. We had a long list of recommendations and wanted to make sure we tried as many of them as possible. Don Julio is one of those restaurants that everyone says you MUST go to in Buenos Aires, so we were excited to visit. Unfortunately, we soon learned that in order to get a reservation at Don Julio, you've got to start trying several months before. So, we didn't have a reservation. BUT we learned that if you show up and stand in line a few hours before they open, you may just snag a table! We were also told they hand out tiny empanadas and sparkling wine to the people waiting and that the empanadas were the best in Buenos Aires. My friend and I landed in Buenos Aires that morning from Miami and were in line at Don Julio at 5:30 PM (they open at 7). Believe it or not, we weren't the first in line, so I'd recommend showing up a full two hours before they open. It's also important to know that unless you have a reservation, you won't be sitting inside. It may not matter so much if it's nice out, but we were there in July and it was cold out. We DID get to try the empanadas but got no wine. The empanadas were delicious, but not the best I've ever had. Luckily, we were able to get a table close to some outdoor heaters. I'd read several blog posts about Don Julio and had my heart set on their homemade salami, but the waitress insisted we should get something else instead because it was so much better. It wasn't good and I was disappointed I'd listened to her. For our entree, my friend and I shared a T-bone steak, mashed potatoes, and a broccoli "salad" that the same waitress insisted was great. I wanted to order the tomato salad which I'd heard was divine, but unfortunately they weren't in season. I will say the meat was excellent. However, the mashed potatoes were bland and basic, and the broccoli was basically a dish of steamed broccoli. It didn't even taste like it was seasoned. Thankfully when our head server noticed we hadn't touched it, he asked if we'd not liked it and when we said we didn't he took it off the bill. For dessert, I had an almond ice cream that our main server said was divine (it was). When it was time for us to pack up and leave, it took us over half an hour to find someone to charge us. Finally, we gave up and went inside to pay our bill. I would imagine that some people leave without paying out of frustration. Although the meat WAS excellent, the rest of the food we tried (aside from the ice cream) was just average. Even though our head waiter was very nice, the suggestions offered by the waitress were terrible. The service was slow and there were many points where we needed something and just couldn't get anyone to help. Unfortunately, the impression we got is that Don Julio is one of those tourist traps that survives on word of mouth, but is nowhere near worth standing two hours in line for. My brother and I are absolutely shocked by the experience we just had here. We would not consider ourselves high maintenance at all, but we know good steak and a good dining experience. Everything was great up until the salad came. We ordered the arugula salad, but it was basically just a mound of cheese, enough that it was off putting. Time for the steak: We ordered the Tomahawk steak and when the waiter cut into it, it was completely undercooked. We asked the waiter to take it back since it was too raw to eat. We thought, no problem that happens sometimes. We then got the steak again and it was too rare again!!! We felt too bad to send it back again so we ate what we could, which was not much. To make matters worse, the waiter dropped a bowl of sauce on the floor as he was clearing our plates and the sauce spilled all over my brother's new bag that he bought here in Argentina. The waiter didn't even apologize. We tried cleaning off the bag with water and a napkin at our table, but the bag was unfortunately ruined. I think the staff could tell we were not happy so they tried to give us some free dessert, but we were already so upset. When it came time for the check to come, they discounted us 20%, but I truly felt like they should have just given us the meal for free after that experience. We barely ate the meat so we walked away from that restaurant having eaten bread, a tomato, cheese salad, and water for $87 USD. Normally we would think this isn't a big deal, but you can't call yourself the best steak house in the world/have a Michelin star and deliver undercooked steak twice. read more

Came here for my birthday dinner. Overall, they have amazing food but the service could be better. We didn't have a reservation and was only a party of 2. We arrived at 8pm and weren't seated until 12:50am, right before they closed. Seems like they do not like small parties, because all of the larger parties that arrived after us without reservations were seated before us. Even a women who was expecting waited almost the entire time with us! Felt terrible they made her wait that long. Luckily there was a place for her to sit down. On the plus side, there is free champagne (with unlimited refills) and the best empanadas while you wait to be seated. Tenderloin (medium rare) order was my favorite. So tender, seasoned, and cooked to perfection. After your meal you can find taxi drivers waiting for passengers out front. Highly recommend reservations or arriving with a LARGE party. We ate it done Julio towards the end of February, and when we came on a Thursday night around 9 PM we were handed a glass of champagne at the door while we waited for our seat. Once we were seated, we were delighted to see that the entire wall was covered in tomatoes, a sign of the end of summer in the harvest of tomatoes. We were able to pluck a few right off the wall and taste them! The appetizers that we got and the wine that was paired with them was definitely good (the tomato appetizer was actually the best thing that we got and we still think about it to this day), but the steak was underwhelming. It might be that the cut we ordered was not going to be super tender, but given this place has a Michelin star we expected that no matter what cut we got it was going to be delicious. It was a little it was a little tough, and frankly under salted. However, the overall experience that we had was definitely memorable and we'd recommend going if you've always been curious! read more

We made reservations two months in advance looking forward to one of the best parillas in all of Argentina and rated as one of the top 100 restaurants in the world as rated by T&L. When you arrive, you are greeted with a Glass of champagne. Nice touch. The entrance is crowded with people and the very hip place to go. Note: upon your arrival, you'll need your confirmation email on your phone or otherwise. Note that since you are in Argentina, none of the staff which we encountered speak English. That wasn't a problem for us since we speak some Spanish. After all, you are in Argentina and English is not spoken widely here. That's okay. We we quickly escorted to our table upstairs. Note: there is seating outside, downstairs and upstairs. Where we were seated it was more intimate of a setting. Their selections of protein are generous and their wine list is massive. Our waitperson has only worked there 3 months and was a little inexperienced but efficient nonetheless. We ordered the Ojo which is ribeye, asparagus and a arugula salad...which will come last. Our wine was delicious as we waited for our Ojo. Very nice presentation of both the beef and the asparagus.Both were cooked perfectly. Here's where things changes. The ribeye was flavorful but tough, stringy and overly fatty. Just a poor cut of ribeye. For one of the best parillas in Argentina, we were very disappointed. The best part of the meal was the asparagus and the wine actually. With that said, if you go to Don Julio, the protein could be hit or miss. The vibe there is very hip and bustling. The staff very friendly and efficient. Just not a fan of the kitchen. Lots of hype with marginal product. Can't say we'd be back again. This is a steakhouse you don't want to miss when you are in Buenos Aires. We were lucky enough to get reservations for two different days while we were in town. We also got to try many different dishes as we shared all the dishes family style. My favorite steak out of the four we tried was the flank steak. The most tender was the tenderloin. My husband loved the rib eye and tomahawk steak. The heirloom tomato salads we amazing. We also liked the grilled zucchini. The French fries were so crispy and delicious. My dad loved the ice cream. We tried a lot of dishes and they were all excellent. Try to get reservations a month in advance and get on their early access reservations. My wife and I had the wonderful opportunity to experience Don Julio's on Saturday night. Much has and can be said of the food. We had a ribeye and a filet. both were excellent and prepared perfectly. However, what we were most impressed by was the service. although it has not been my experience, I have been told that service in Buenos Aires can be terrible. The service we received at Don Julio was worthy of its Michelin star. We arrived 20 minutes early for our 7 o'clock reservation, which was the first service of the evening. Although they were still preppy outside, we were warmly greeted and given a glass of champagne. within 5 minutes there was a long line behind us. Our host refilled our glasses, and upon realizing we did not speak Spanish, sent over a bilingual replacement. We were quickly handed off to Dareo, who asked where we would like to be seated. at that point we had the choice of any table in sight. We told him that we had no preference and he initially seated us in a quiet tabletop in a corner. He suggested that many people like to sit in the front where they can see the steak being prepared. We took his suggestion and he moved us back to the front to another quiet table where we could see everything. Once seated we were introduced to Vernon who took excellent care of us for the rest of the evening. He was aided in his service of us by the sommelier who helped us pick a nice medium priced Malbec, as well as by an assortment of attentive waitstaff. Vernon patiently explained the menu choices to us. He was gracious and personable. As each plate came out he presented them beautifully and added to the explanation of the dish. The aged potatoes were explained by presenting a wooden box that showed how they were stored and aged prior to preparing. He then took out a large black truffle and mandolin to slice a ridiculous amount on to the dish. Through out the dinner, the table maintenance was impeccable, not intrusive; just impressive. However, came here immediately after landing at EZE and got here at noon, allowed to eat by 1:30pm. So if you really want to check out this place then just show up, I'm sure you will be welcomed. I've heard about the beef in Argentina so I was really excited to try it. We made reservations before coming and were greeted with champagne at the front door. We loved it so much we can't back on our last night. Without reservations, we came about 15 min before they opened and were seated at opening. The service at this place is excellent and fast. The waitress will help you flag down a taxi if needed. The steak!! As my friend said, it was the best steak she's ever had. It was huge, tasty, and SO juicy! And steak and great service and an awesome atmosphere are the reasons. When you arrive at Don Julio, you may have to wait a little while for a table, even with a reservation, but you are given a glass of champagne to help pass the time. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside on a beautiful late summer afternoon. Beef is about the only food on the menu and they serve 10 different cuts. You can also have appetizers of empanadas and charcuterie and organ meats. For 2 of us we ordered the charcuterie and then a rib eye and a strip steak plus an order of patas fritas. After ordering, a wait person returned and told us she thought we ordered too much food and that we should get one piece of meat and share it (the cuts are 500 grams, or over a pound each). She also said the rib eye was better than the strip steak on that day. So that's what we did and it was excellent. Their version of charcuterie was 3 different sausages cut up for us at the table. Superb. We had a glass of rose to start and then a bottle of Argentinian Malbec. If you are into beef, this is the place to go! read more
