I think everybody could agree across the board that going out for lunch is a luxury we take for granted. Today, while getting our cars tires repaired, pops and treated ourselves out to lunch at Don Pan in Coral Springs! Going in, the place was flowing with strong positive vibes as it was spacious, mix of Spanish & edm music pumping, and friendly staff! Today we ordered 1x cuban sandwhich and 1x bowl of sancocho. Moving on with my review, everything was terrific! The sancocho had bright yet hearty broth, tender pieces of boiled beef, fresh vegetables, and fresh chopped cilantro on top WOW! The cuban sandwhich was crispy and for a first time actually possessed had AND shredded pork that was so succulent and tender! Moreover, the servers we're so nice and attentive making us feel truly at home. Overall, we were blown away by the quality of the food and service today. If you haven't been to this Don Pan, then you're missing out. Final verdict 5/5 stars!

I was craving empanadas and guava con queso for lunch. Went on yelp and found this place. I was going to order online but said naaa let me drive over and see exactly what they have. I drove there and the place was empty except for the employees of course. Very quiet in there. I was greeted as I walked in. The food cases were nicely stocked w/ baked/fried goods. They had different drink yo choose from also. There were so many different selections I was excited. I was going to go crazy in there because I wanted to try one of EVERYTHING lol. I stuck to my guns though and ordered 2 meat empanadas and 2 guava con queso to go. The total was about $14. I got home and the brown bag they put the empanadas in was soaked with oil. I took them out of the bag and placed them on a paper towel. They were still warm but VERY VERY GREASY! The grease soaked the paper towels also. I bit into one and I was a little disappointed. It was very very sweet like corn bread or hushpuppies w/ beef in them. The beef was tasteless. I added LOT of hot sauce to them. I later felt that oil sitting on my chest. Wish I would've taken a pic of the oil soiled paper bag. As for the guava con queso or shall I say lack of. It was a nice size flaky pastry with guava and cheese spread like butter. There was pretty much no filling inside that huge pastry. I was so upset. Def won't be going back there. Publix has better pastry than that but I was trying to stick w/ the roots. I opened both of them to make sure I was not missing anything but nope both had a dollop in them.

Boyfriend decided to bring us here on this rainy Wednesday afternoon, PERFECT time to sit down and enjoy some yummy Latin American food! Bakery/cafe style restaurant. Boyfriend is Colombian, and speaks Spanish fluently so I let him do the ordering, however the staff does speak English. Anything we had a question about the girl at the counter was more than helpful to answer. Ended up getting a pork, chicken and steak arepa, with 2 fresh mango juices. So so so so unbelievably yummy! A bit oily than any other arepa I've had but delicious nonetheless! Served with a side of what tasted like cilantro garlic sauce. And can't go wrong with fresh fruit juice! Before we left, we got TO-GO some cheese breads and assortment of Venezuelan style arepas along with the Sancocho de castilla soup, and a cafe con leche, to wake my ass up! Delicious! Really is a wonderful place to try out if you are craving a Latin treat!

Came here early morning before my job for some much missed childhood eats. Growing up in south Florida you are prone to running into one of these Hispanic bakery/ coffee shops. I was so happy to find out that it was one of the close to my house. Place is hidden right off of Wiles Road. When I came in it was nobody here clean friendly staff. I have a Cuban breakfast sandwich that comes with scrambled eggs, cheese, and bacon with the cappuccino. Talk about hot and fresh! The bread was so soft, there was an excess amount of eggs but who doesn't like more protein next time I'll tell them to just put a little bit. Also they offered samples of their fresh made cheese bread which is my ultimate favorite Loved it! will definitely back here.

Okay, maybe Don Pan is fast food and no self respecting Cuban/Venezuelan/Argentinian would consider it serious ethnic cuisine from their respective lands. But sometimes what you want is fast food. You're busy, and you want to be able to walk in, order something quickly, grab it from the counter, sit down at a table, and have a quick lunch or snack. Or, in this case, some baked goods and a cafecito. Cuban coffee/bakery places are not something we have in large supply in Coral Springs. We have two El Cubano locations and the excellent Crocante on University in the Walk, which is Argentinian -- and more upscale than Don Pan. But if you want the style of cafe colada that they serve on Calle Ocho in Miami, with the right kind of pastries to go with it -- then Don Pan is your place, not these two. Here you'll get the kind in the little styrofoam cup, with that big dose of sugar stirred into it. Don Pan's is made with Real Cafe, roasted here in South Florida, and it's dark Cuban-style espresso pouring out piping hot from a doubleheader commercial machine. Strong and very (shall I say diabetic-level) sweet. Tired? You can go from fatigued to bouncing off the walls in a manner of minutes after drinking one of those. You're not going to have one of those on an empty stomach. Oh no, you're going to want something to absorb it. At Don Pan, I strongly recommend a cachito -- a style of Venezuelan pastry similar to a croissant but is more of an eggy yeast bread consistency. I strongly recommend the Ham and Cheese version, which has finely chopped ham and a white cheese inside similar to mozzarella. There are also excellent empanadas here. Both Venezuela's and Argentina's styles are dutifully represented. The Venezuelan style eschews the pastry crust style you might see with Cuban or Puerto Rican types in favor of sweet corn masa, which is then deep-fried. My favorite here is the Shredded Meat, which is made with the corn curst, and is stuffed to the gills with fall-apart beef, likely a chuck roast, similar to a Cuban ropa vieja. It's excellent. One with a coffee is an excellent snack; two is a meal. And if you manage to get here right after 8 PM, you can buy two pastries for the price of one, because they won't keep them for the next day. Now, here is where the naysayers are going to laugh at me. The best thing I've had here is their Cuban sandwich. No, I'm not joking. Firstly, it's not a traditional sandwich cubano because they are not using the correct pan de agua; they are using something more akin to an Italian roll, which is chewier. They also are not using sliced roast pork in a traditional sandwich either; they are using slow-cooked pulled pork (likely shoulder) seasoned with a garlic mojo that is fall-apart soft, with a ton of juice in it. And they use quite a bit of it on their sandwich, along with sliced ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard, for a whole $8. They don't cook the pork in-house at their stores; it comes from their central kitchen in Miami -- but damn is it good. This is a hefty sandwich for that price, and they press it well so that the cheese gets all gooey and oozing out the side. Is it the traditional style you get at some of our other local places like Juana la Cubana or the aforementioned El Cubano? Nope. But is it good? Oh, heck yes.

Stopped in today to see what they have and tried a few really good things. First of all, CAFE CON LECHE! I have been back twice and its always delicious, but it needs to be hotter (if you are listening, three times delicious, three times not hot, ok?) tried every empanada they had, can't pick a favorite, all were good. Their Cheese Bread was in a word SUBLIME. Go there, your going to wish you had hotter coffee, trust me. (Again, if your listening, thanks)

Doris, You're Beautiful... but My Wallet is in Witness Protection…read more If Whole Foods and an Italian grandma had a love child, it would be Doris Italian Market & Bakery in Coral Springs. The place is gorgeous -- like, "I suddenly care about the proper marbling of a ribeye" gorgeous. You walk in and instantly feel fancier, even if you showed up in gym shorts. Everything here screams quality. The produce looks like it just finished a spa retreat. The deli and meat counters? Absolute showstoppers. The bakery? Let's just say if carbs are a sin, I'm ready for eternal damnation. They bake everything in-house, and you can taste the pride (and probably a little buttered joy) in every bite. I came in hunting for a very specific treasure: Vidalia Onion Salad Dressing. I'd bought it here before, and it ruined me for all others. It's got this onion flavor that doesn't overpower -- it just whispers sweet nothings to your taste buds. Publix versions tried to compete, but they're like off-brand perfume: close, but not quite date-night material. Was it $7 a bottle? Yes. Did I still buy two? Also yes. Because once you've had this dressing, you start thinking $7 is a small price to pay for happiness in liquid form. Now, let's talk prices overall. Doris isn't cheap. If you tried to do all your grocery shopping here, your checking account might file for bankruptcy protection. But you get what you pay for -- and in this case, you're paying for quality, presentation, and a faint whiff of "old-world Italian pride." Five stars for the food and quality, four overall because you won't find every everyday item you need... but for meats, fish, deli, and bakery? Doris is absolutely worth it.

Dessert stop at Cookiehead Bakery (Coral Springs)…read more I was craving something sweet before dinner, so I decided to check out Cookiehead Bakery around 6 pm. I'll be honest--I was expecting a bigger variety of cookies (and maybe some brownies), but at the time they had about 8 cookie options and 2 muffins available. Flavors included: walnut chocolate chip, classic chocolate chip, sugar cookie, Nutella red velvet, golden Oreo cookies & cream, Dubai chocolate, and lemon blueberry. They also offer soft serve, milkshakes, and coffee, which is a nice plus. I went with the last Dubai chocolate cookie ($6.42 with tax). The cookie itself was a little on the dry side, but the chocolate topping was really good and flavorful. Overall: worth trying if you're in the area, especially if you want something different--but I'd love to go back earlier in the day to see a fuller selection.

Walking into Cookiehead Bakery at 7:30 PM felt like entering a business that had already given up…read moreon itself. The sign says they're open until 10 PM, which apparently is more of a philosophical concept than an actual operating hour. Inside, it was so dim and lifeless that I genuinely questioned whether I was trespassing. No one at the counter. No sound from the back. No sign of human life at all. If a tumbleweed had rolled past the cookie case, it honestly would have fit the mood. And that cookie case? It looked less like a bakery display and more like the aftermath of a clearance sale nobody cared enough to restock. I stood there long enough to go through the full emotional journey from hopeful dessert run to "should I call someone to report this place missing?" before an employee finally appeared out of nowhere like they'd been summoned by confusion itself. Now, maybe I'm being a little harsh, but the vibe was unmistakable: I was interrupting absolutely nothing, and somehow still felt unwelcome. So I did the safe thing and ordered the chocolate chip, figuring if your signature cookie can't deliver, what are we even doing here? A cookie eventually appeared, and after all the suspense, mystery, and accidental haunted-house atmosphere, the payoff was... fine. Better than a gas station cookie, sure, but that is such a low bar it's basically underground. At these prices, I'm expecting bakery magic, not "slightly upgraded convenience store." The whole experience felt like the cookie version of showing up to a party after everyone already left. Dim lights, dead energy, and one lonely chocolate chip cookie trying its best to carry the reputation of the entire place. I've had worse, but not by much. Two stars. One for being technically open, and one because the cookie did, in fact, exist. For what they charge, mediocrity shouldn't feel this committed.
