My husband and myself have been dining at Don Pancho's for many years and always our meals have been delicious. We have tried different Mexican restaurants but swear by Don Pancho's. Not sure if it is Panchos' responsibility or a lesson I needed to learn that you do not order carry out nachos. The problem: The form of the nachos was circular like a pizza, weird. Nachos should be chaos. And I think it was the refried beans (my mistake, never get these on nachos, IDK why I was thinking i'd get black beans) that made nachos, the !foundation! Soggy! The solution: all "Mexican" restaurants should serve carryout nachos deconstructed , everything should remain separated in its own container. Allow the customer to construct the nachos at home. I would have been able to enjoy crunchy nachos and I would have been able to separately reheat the cold beef and said to myself "these are not black beans, my goodness I've made a mistake, but I can just toss this mistake in the trash". I am sure I threw away most of my order, but will be back to Don Pancho's a much wiser customer :) read more

Have been going here with my family for 35 years, was always satisfied until recently. Menu changed, food now very bland especially the rice. Portions are very small now. Gave it 3 more tries in last month. Unfortunately we will not go back. Its a shame, was our favorite restaurant . We had a party of 14 and none of us liked the meals. So weird, used to be so great. There are plenty of reviews here attributing to the day to day offerings at Panchos so I won't get into that, moreover, I've never actually had dinner here. Don't ask why, because frankly I don't know. However, no one has mentioned anything about the Breakfast Buffet!! They only offer the Breakfast Buffet on the weekends, & trust me when I tell you I was pleasantly surprised. Some friends talked me into going & i'm glad they did. Much like the restaurant itself the buffet is huge! They have all the normal staples you would expect on a breakfast buffet: eggs, waffles, homemade sausage, various potatoes, yogurt, bacon, & etc. But, in addition to the normal fare they also have Hispanic infused versions of those offerings as well. If I recall correctly they even had a Taco Bar! The only down side is that you are going to have to get up early, & I assume that's why most folks don't know about this - 7am - 9 or 10am. I think it's worthwhile myself! --- Ps: Pro-Tip, the waitress let it slip that if you are there when they change the Breakfast Buffet over the the Lunch Buffet you can have both! Food is mediocre - lunch - at best. I ordered the three enchiladas and all I can say is that everything was bland. All they came with was melted cheese on top, no sauce of any kind, and while the meats were ok, I've had much better at other local Mexican establishments. read more

I was expecting the usual uninspired food when I walked in the door. I was pleasantly surprised! The salsa was tasty & home made. The chips that came with it had a nice seasoning on them. I've never seen that before but was a savory departure from standard plain chips. I ordered a margarita which was refreshing & had a great lime taste. I had a chili relleno for dinner. Don Pancho's Tex-Mex Grill - Mexican Near Me - Alliance, Ohio

When I think of Mexican food, I think of Pancho's. I grew up eating here and now compare every other restaurant to it. I moved out to Washington state in the last year. The restaurant that I miss is Pancho's. The salsa is made fresh at the restaurant. It doesn't contain preservatives. I could drink this salsa by the cup. The good news is that chips and salsa are included with your meal. You can also buy containers of salsa. Pancho's also has my favorite tortilla chips. They taste great and have a nice salty seasoning. The food is usually pretty good. They have off days on occasion. My "go to" meal is a cheese enchilada with beans and rice. The enchilada sauce is what dreams are made of. Oh my goodness. The food has good seasoning which is what most are lacking. Drinks are delicious and strong. You get what you pay for. I've spent many evenings enjoying the margaritas. Be sure to stop for a picture on the big chair. It's been a tradition since I can remember. I returned for my first visit from Washington. Don's got a long history in this area, with various locations doing a brisk business over the years and then finally closing. The last remaining location is the one in Alliance. My recollection is that Alliance is where it all started. The location that currently houses Don Pancho's is not the one I remember. Anyway, it isn't as good as it once was, or my taste in Mexican has gotten more discriminating. The wife summed it up, this is decent American Mexican food. She's right. The food wasn't bad, but it was pretty bland. I think they keep it that way to appeal to the local palette. My chicken enchiladas were ok, The chicken was ground, lacking any discernible spice. The beans were actually the best on the plate. The rice was ok. The chips were slightly seasoned, a plus; but were quite cold, a negative. The salsa, again, was bland, but tasty. The real reason the place only pulled 2 stars is the less than clean appearance of the place. The restroom smelled so strongly of chlorine that I wondered what must have been cleaned up or what was being covered up. The table seemed a bit sticky and the entry was tattered and worn. Overall, the place had a old, musty smell that detracted from the experience. I reckon this place will do good business appealing to the tastes of those looking for a mild Mexican experience. For the type of establishment and expectations for a Tex-Mex venue, this was pretty much what one would expect. There was some sort of enchilada and burrito special with rice and refried beans for like 9 bucks. Also had the chili con queso and guac dip and a Strawberry-Banana margarita. This is not the best place right from the top. I have tried many different places like this and I know what the food is supposed to taste like. It was absolutely gross!!! The salsa tasted like it sat out for 6 days! So clearly we were not off to a good start. I ordered my food (3 choice combo) I wanted a shredded chicken quesadilla but they only do ground chicken?! Weird but I'm not mad. I move on to my beef taco... the tomato/lettuce on top was seriously the nastiest thing I ever tasted: all sour. My cheese enchilada was nothing but old cheese tasting all hard and sad. We ordered 2 different hot sauces and the waitress never came back and we didn't even see her again till the bill came. It was a train wreck. My stomach hurts. I don't trust this place. Basically the wrong side of the family, go to Pancho's in Green . Great food, cozy and quiet atmosphere. My family's favorite restaurant in all of Alliance. This is Tex-Mex food ... not mexican ... not American. It's not the best ever - but in my experience it is a good meal every time. The servers (in many cases) have been there for years and recognize their regulars when you go in. I have the crab salad every time I go and it is awesome! The chili con queso is the best I've had and better than most mexican restaurants. FREE chips and salsa can't be beat either and I have been known to buy a bag of chips to take home with me as well. This restaurant is an "Alliance culture" thing. If you remember the OLD Pancho's on the corner of Union & Main everything is different now with its new location. The decor is amusing with Americanized versions of Mexican decor. The first time my husband went, he hated it. After 3 visits, it's now his favorite too. If you grew up in the area, there's just something about Poncho's that will take you back to your childhood. People tell me this place used to be great. Well it isn't now. Confused menu and even more confused staff. GF ordered a dos equis and the waitress asked her how do you spell that. I ordered a to go order was told 35 minutes got there and they never even put my order in so I ended up waiting another 15 minutes the manager Joe never even offered a discount or anything for the mixup and this is the second time on a to go order that I had to wait wait longer then was told. This place is a city landmark. It's run by family who are very nice. My wife and I go there on our date nite and joe knows us by name. The food is always good and service is the best in town ! This place has been in business since 1970. I think we can safely call Don Pancho's officially the FIRST mexican (Tex-Mex, specifically) restaurant in Ohio. If someone can dispute that, please do! That being said, I believe the reason this original Alliance location stays busy is that their dishes are truly homemade and have a unique twist with a Tex-Mex influence. My favorite are the thick, homemade chips, just like they serve when I went to Mexico. Most other restaurants use the standard-issue thin triangle chips. Wife and I stopped in two days ago around 5 for food and drink. Margs were ok terrible tasteless hard tacos as well as my wife'stale chicken barrios . Waitress asked us if we needed a box as we ate less than half that was on our plate and we told her no it was not good enough to take home. Don Pancho is an Alliance staple, but I can never figure out why. I do love 'big chair' near the entrance. I have never had a meal I was excited about here, the food is consistently just okay. (If I want Mexican food, i go down the road to the other place.) The wait staff can be slow and less than attentive, but the food doesn't take forever to come out of the kitchen, and it does come out hot. The Sunday Morning Buffett has good breakfast, but if you go after church they will be taking it away to put out lunch. Do not try the Sunday Lunch buffet. I have had nothing other than salad from the lunch buffet that was good. The empanadas were terrible, the spanish rice is flavorless, the chicken wasn't good, the mac and cheese was smushy and tasteless. I didn't try anything else, nothing even looked appetizing. Pancho's is an institution in Alliance. Drive past on a Friday or Saturday night and you're likely to see their (large) parking lot packed with cars. The chips and salsa here are really good. Most of the menu is pretty good too. I like the Mexican Plate Jr. (taco, enchilada, beans, and rice) and the crabmeat chimichanga. The refried beans and Spanish rice that come with most meals are great. Even though this place is big and can get packed on busy nights, the service is generally efficient and friendly. (I may have had one or two poor service experiences, but I've been here at least 100 times.) Keep in mind that this is Tex-Mex food. If you're a snob when it comes to Mexican food, then don't come here. I live in California and have access to tons of great Mexican food, but I still love going to Pancho's when I'm in Ohio. read more

For the first time my wife wants me to leave a yelp review. It isn't a good thing. She ordered the seafood nachos. They came with a hair, not just an eye lash, but a long eight inch strand of hair draped across the plate and embedded in several nachos. The waiter replaced the plate but seemed very nonchalant. A few moments later my son found a hair in his rice. I'm not sure what happened here. This was not good. The manager said nothing, and no change on the bill.
