What a great location on the main strip of Hartville. This restaurant is surrounded by other restaurants: sit down and fast food as well as gas stations. The location is an easy option if you are looking to do multiple things in the area. Mi Casa is enriched in community advertising: on the screens, their tables, and their glasses. It is unique to see a restaurant showcase their community the way Mi Casa does. The staff were helping one another out and were thorough. Whether pick ups or sit down there seemed to be a steady flow of customers. The menu did have a section of combination meals as well as an ala carte section. The salsa was served in little saucers and definitely had a bite to it. The combination 26- Chile Poblano, taco, rice & beans were a delicious and unique choice. This is the first time I've seen chile poblano on a menu and it did not disappoint. The large cheese dip was decently hot and had a little bit of a kick to it compared to other Mexican restaurants. We tried Mi Casa on a whim, and we were pleasantly surprised by the food! This is not Tex Mex--it is traditional Mexican. The food is flavorful but not overly spiced. They utilize a lot of onion and peppers and tomatoes for flavor. The queso is a thick white cheese with some spice! We didn't expect it to be spicy, but again, not too much so it tasted great. Three of us got the Chimi Churro meal, and it was very good! The chicken was delicious, and paired well with the rice. The service was great, and the chips and salsa were fresh. The salsa wasn't overly spicy, but again had great flavor. The chips came out fresh each time and were still warm, but not greasy! Portion size was plenty. The ambiance of the restaurant is a typical traditional Mexican restaurant. Mexican music was playing as we ate. They sell adorable handmade Mexican dolls and bags in the front of the restaurant. Gave this restaurant many chances. The truth is ...it's not consistent. Most of the time the chips are stale. The guacamole is ok sometimes or it's sour and gross. The cheese dip has no flavor. Sometimes your chimichangas get deep fried and sometimes they are a soggy unfried. The rice is good when it's fresh but it rarely is. Soft tacos come in foil wrap and they are a wet mess. I've been to Mi Casa a half dozen times over the past 20 years, and have never been disappointed. If I were in this area more, I'd visit more often. They have a tasty menu of all of your favorite Mexican entrées. All fresh, and well prepared by the kitchen. Spice levels definitely have been moderated, shall we say, so as to not terrify the locals, most of whom likely start their mornings with soda instead of coffee (too bitter), and chose Pepsi over Coke (too spicy). The ubiquitous bottles of hot sauces on every table allow patrons to make corrections on their own. The chips arrive warm, fresh and crunchy. The salsa and pico are fresh, and full of flavor from tomatoes, chili, cumin, onions and cilantro. Staff are always friendly, and appear to enjoy their work. Mi Casa is a very nice family owned and operated authentic Mexican restaurant located on West Maple Street in Hartville, Ohio. It is a freestanding structure with its own parking lot. The lot is well maintained and of adequate size for the business. Mi Casa offers both indoor and outdoor dining. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Service is always excellent and the food is always fresh and delicious. The restaurant is always clean and well kept. I don't live in the area but when I'm visiting family in Hartville we almost always end up at Mi Casa at least once. A meal here is always enjoyable. In addition to dining at the restaurant I have also had the pleasure of attending several events over the years that were catered by Mi Casa. The food and service is always excellent. The food and drink menus are extensive so everyone is sure to find something they like. If you are unsure of something they are happy to help you make a choice. My mother's favorite is the Hawaiian Burrito and I have to admit it's pretty awesome, so fresh and original. My wife favors the wonderful Lime Fish Tacos. I enjoy the tasty Fajitas and Pollo Loco and most everything else I've tried. I've never had something I didn't enjoy. Worst experience... I can understand being busy but we waited forever for a drink order. Then waited longer to get our order taken. I asked if they had fruit punch, they brought my 4 year old a glass bottle of fruit punch SODA. They then brought all of our food at different times. finally when they brought mine, I just asked for a bill and box. They never asked how the food was or if we needed any drink refills. I went to pay, literally standing in line and this women literally walked away to go drink her beverage and sit on the counter on the phone. Food is fairly decent, but my order is incorrect every time. I'm not being dramatic - every time! Dine in, take out - never fails. Any time I go I seem to get the same waitress so that probably doesn't help, but to make things worse, she's commonly snobby. I don't know if it's a processing thing because of a language barrier or she's just that rude, but the service doesn't balance the fair food or incorrect order. They've survived in Hartville because of their good, authentic Mexican food and friendly staff. Mi Casa is constantly innovating. Watch for menu additions posted on the door. They recently added black beans and a fat-free bean. New menu items show up as specials first. A sign on the outside of the restaurant claims they have the best Cuban sandwich. I tried it today for the lunch special. It is an incredible amount of food for $6.95. It is almost the size of four sandwiches, with two kinds of meat, fresh avocado, onions, tomatoes. The black beans on the side was a giant bowl of black bean soup with crumbled cheese and tortilla strips on the side. Good food, good value. I've had the fish tacos with lime in the past, with lime and they rock. They have a friendly staff. The owner is going to be waiting on one section of the restaurant, so you will see her greeting everyone with a smile and when you go back a second time, she will recognize you as a friend. You will get a basket of warm chips and two small bowls of salsa before you order. The food is usually out before those are gone, but refills are available. For the downside, they are located in a dry precinct, which means that you aren't going to get a margarita here. read more

Went there for dinner on a Friday night. Noticed there was a drive thru. The dining area was a bit small but very busy. There was a man playing Mexican music on his guitar searching for tips. The music was very loud and overpowering in such a small dining room. That was an immediate turn off and at first we considered eating at an outside table facing the parking lot. We sat inside and cringed over the music the whole time. It was hard to have dinner conversation. The food was really good - I have to say, as well as the service. We got our food pretty quickly and it was very fresh and hot. I got the pineapple chicken fajitas and husband got the fajitas with chicken beef and shrimp. The hubby and I went for a late dinner last night. The chips were warm and crisp. The salsa had just the right amount of spice. The cheese dip wasn't anything to write home about, but it was good. He had chimichangas, and he ate every bite. I had the roqueta burrito and it was wonderful! The sauces combined with the crispy and flavorful pork were amazing. I substituted black beans for the refried beans and they could have been a meal by themselves! They add house made chorizo, fresh diced onions, and cilantro- yummy! Nothing fancy here, just really good Mexican food! Friendly and fast service! I've had the opportunity to try many things, and almost all are winners- the chalupa platter when I need to eat my feelings (deep fried), and the secret cilantro bowl that is just decadent enough to not feel like health food are just two examples of items not available at most Mexican restaurants. But what really stands out is the chicken and rice soup. It's amazing. Such a rich broth, lots of shredded chicken, and plenty of rice, served with pico on top (I always go with extra), and tortilla crunchies, it's a meal in itself. And it's so good when you're feeling under the weather, I sweat it has healing properties. The black bean soup is also outstanding, topped with queso fresco and more of that awesome pico. I love that it has a drive through window for picking up carry out! Sometimes where I eat is dependent on me not having to get out of my car. I only wish they had it a little more together- sometimes I drive up and they ask me again what I ordered, and it's not always completely correct when I get it home. But I eat it anyway because it's great food :) The other thing that leaves off a star- please make your own churros! Our service was very choppy. There was two waitresses working with us, and as a result things got lost in our orders. But they tried and I was very understanding as we were a big group of people. Another thing that I noticed was that the menu was very large, and the ingredients weren't top quality. I would normally give this restaurant 4 stars. For a normal, American-Mexican restaurant it is close to the best I have ever eaten at. They have a great selection, good service and exceptional food. I have never gotten something here I didn't like. Their tortilla chips seem to be fresher and more crisp than at most Mexican restaurants I have been to - just the right texture. Their salsa is pretty average, but their white cheese dip is amazing. I usually have to watch to make sure I don't fill up on chips and dip before my food comes. I usually get their grilled chicken quesadilla, which has just the right ratio of vegetables, cheese and chicken. For $7-$10 a person my wife and I can eat here and always have leftovers for the next day. The thing that pushes Mi Casa to 5 stars is the amazing people that work there. I can't tell you all the things they have done for people in the community. Me and my wife do a fundraiser there every year to raise support and awareness for a health related cause. Their willingness to help us, donate a percentage of their profits to us and be a part of the effort is amazing. Recently, when my wife's father was in the hospital for an extended period of time they sent hot food to the hospital for our entire family! It was able to serve 10 people! Trust me when I tell you you will not find better people than owners, Miguel and Laura. I had the tortilla soup that my mom has been raving about for YEARS. It really was the best I ever had. It is broth based, not cream and I prefer that. Very fresh with cilantro, a ton of shredded chicken, rice and onion. They give you a pretty large bowl and it has this delicious fried chip things on top. I actually removed most of them because there were too many. I also had a ala carte chicken enchilada. The red sauce was kind of sweet. Perhaps a mole sauce. It was OK. The table chips were good, the salsa was a bit watery with a mesquite flavor. Prices were reasonable. For my bowl of soup, a drink and the enchilada about $7. I had leftover soup to take too. I will be craving this soup in the future, I know it. The service was OKAY. They were great at getting the food out quickly, but drink refills were a issue. I was surprised with this little place in Hartville. I was back in my hometown and didn't think I would be eating at a new restaurant in town. On a Saturday night they have this cute older couple singing along with a keyboard. It wasn't great but it was entertaining and was cool to see something like this. I heard that this makes it more authentic because it is common to do this in Mexico. They also have great decor in this place. They have pinatas hanging from the ceiling, which they sell. The food was great. I ordered the Chimi- Churo which had queso cheese poured over chimichanga type dish. They had a choice of shredded chicken, beef, pork, steak, or grilled chicken. The grilled chicken and steak are $1 more ($8.49). I really enjoyed this dish and would get it again. No one at the table had any complaints as we were all happy with our meals. Their menu is insane and everyone can find something they like. I would like to try their Cuban sandwich since they claim it to be world famous. They also say they have great black bean soup. I would like to go back and try some more of their cuisine. Their guac was decent so that was a good sign for their entire menu. The service was pretty good but they did forgot to bring us silverware until we asked for it after they had brought us our entrees. They don't have alcohol since Hartville is dry so some people we consider this a negative. The place seems to do well with a good base of locals who enjoy this food. their tacos are definitely made like they should be. The atmosphere and waitstaff were absolutely wonderful. They treated us with smiles and the waiter used great communication skills. This means so much to me. Saying this, i was disappointed in my appetizer and meal. The chorizo in the cheese appeared cooked sufficiently, but a couple pieces were not and looked raw underneath. I ordered a veggie quesadilla, and the yellow squash was sour as well as a piece of broccoli. The broccoli was partly yellow, so i should have guessed. I am reviewing this restaurant because I want them to succeed. They have great menu items and nice staff. Short: above average Mexican restaurant with inexperienced staff and decent food. Long: At one point in my life, Mexican was my favorite type of food. I visited this place last night with a friend, and quite frankly I was pleasantly surprised for both good and bad reasons. First off, sit yourselves in your own table. Not sure if it is a custom or something, but we stood at the door for about 5 minutes, and the waitresses kinda looked at us with a dumb look until we sat ourselves, at which point she quickly got a menu and walked over to us. I would advise the establishment to purchase a sign that says "please seat yourself" or something so as to not give people the cold shoulder. This could really give people a negative view about your establishment fairly quickly. Next, tv's are turned onto the food channel... Why? Just why ? if you have a television that would promote different types of food to people, especially if you are having a slow service type of day ( limited/inexperienced staff) customers may be easily enticed to go elsewhere. Here is where the inexperience comes in. When someone orders a water, and you retrieve it in 30 seconds, do not assume they are ready to order. Luckily, all I order is fajita's, so I already knew what I wanted, but my friend had to frantically scramble to make a decision. Next, the menu is gigantic. As in 2-3 pages, almost like a book of every Mexican meal that has ever been offered... How does one even try to choose a meal? Why not stick to a few and hand out the larger menu upon special request? The restaurant was previously an Arby's, so it looks a lot like a fast food restaurant as the new owners really didn't give it much of a renovation. Personally, I like that, it gives it more of a genuine look. The service of the waitress was mediocre. The cook however, was phenomenal. You are given complimentary chips and mild salsa. We, two college aged gentlemen, were unable to finish one bowl of chips, nor get half way before the cook rushed out my fajitas. In all honesty, it couldn't have been 5 minutes I had my food, roughly 2 minutes later my friend received his. while the service was mediocre, it may have been the fasted meal I have ever received in my life, even faster than mcdonalds. Food itself was average. As in it included all the flavors every Mexican restaurant does. While I may have felt sick after words, it was just cause I ate so much. Finally. This is for the kids. I'm a huge fan of the whole "Casual Mexican" chains. I feel the food is usually better than the typical upscale Mexican(American made) restaurants, but I'd rather eat dog food than come here again. Terrible service, worst food, and ridiculously overpriced! I don't think it helped that we were pestered the whole time by flies. Yes actual flies! My girlfriend, my son, and I waited 10 minutes just to get our drink orders in. Took us 25 minutes just to order. And as we always do anywhere we go, very articulate we told them what we wanted. Ordered a simple enchilada plate came out and it was wrong. Told the waitress that's not what I ordered. She took my plate back in the kitchen and still gave me the wrong meal the second time. I'm no one to make scenes in restaurants so I just ate it. Tasted like it just came out of the microwave. So I just didn't have the stomach to finish it. I'll never go back there again. I'm not sure where some of these other people are getting their idea that the portions here are small or too expensive...maybe they are thinking of a different restaurant?? The food here is AMAZING and the portion sizes are HUGE (a REGULAR burrito at around $8 is about the size of my ARM). This is the best Mexican food I've ever had, and the owners and workers here are the best in town. They know you by name and are just great people. One of my favorites is the Chimi Churros and the black bean soup..which is a unique item at this location (there is a sister restaurant on Waterloo headed towards Barberton). The chips are amazing and home made and so is the salsa. You can even buy them to take home (which we've done many times). They do NOT charge you for refills (thats absurd). And the decor is poking at the cheesy mexican restaurant bit. Once you go in there and taste their food, you know its the real deal. And once you talk to Laura or Miguel you'll definitely want to return..this place rocks! read more
