AMBIANCE: We came here during our break for our leadership conference that we had and it was actually a cool spot. It was spacious, a lot of booth seating area, it accommodated about 30 to 40 people nicely, so we were thankful for that. There is a ton of natural lighting, coming in from the windows, so that was really positive. SERVICE: Service was good, everyone was very nice, I do think that they were overwhelmed, and not usually used to having that many people to service in the middle of the day. At least that was my impression, but overall the service was good. FOOD: I really don't like to give bad reviews, and granted Mexican food is not my top choice but that's what the group wanted. Especially Tex-Mex food, this is not authentic Mexican food at all. So I just wanted some small things to bite on. I wanted appetizers. So I asked for the guacamole salad. You could literally taste that the guacamole that was served was out of a bag. They gave me lettuce, that could have been out of a bag as well, basically looked like rabbit food. It was not appetizing. I was like OK, well maybe they'll dessert will be good. My friend ordered the fried ice cream. How could that not be good? Well it wasn't. The fried tortilla was good, but the ice cream really did not taste good, and I think that's hard to do when it was simply just vanilla. The chocolate sauce, now that I'm thinking about it could have been old. And maybe that's why I didn't taste good? Really it was such a simple dessert, but it was not appetizing at all. As far as very Americanized Mexican food goes, this food is pretty dang good. If you want the no-frills, comfort Mexican food where you sit down and eat 6 baskets of chips and salsa, this is your spot. The service was super quick and friendly, and the food and drinks were served fresh and fast. The prices are awesome for the amount of food you get with any meal. My husband and I had an order of tacos and enchiladas. It came with ground beef because you couldn't change the type of meat. It tasted okay but really lacked the depth of flavor you would want on Mexican food. The taco was soggy and there really wasnt anything that special about the enchiladas. Clean, festive atmosphere, in this cavernous Mexican eatery. Soft Spanish music plays throughout, but not loud enough where you can't carry on a conversation. I love the colorful terra cotta and turquoise murals and the high spacious ceilings. The décor isn't over done like some Mexican spots. One of my pet peeves is a restaurant where the tables are too close together, here... no problem! The tables and booths are spread out so you can have some elbow room and still feel cozy! I dig it! Now let's taco bout the food! Chips were quickly brought to my table; they were light and crispy served with a generous portion of mildly spicy salsa! I also ordered a side of queso dip! Theirs was a creamy, perfectly thickened, and well seasoned sauce with an ever so slight hint of heat. The menu looked delish with all the usual suspects, but I chose the 4 piece flautas, 2 chicken 2 beef. They were swiftly delivered hot, and crunchy with lettuce (which was a bit droopy) guacamole, tomato and sour cream. The shredded chicken filling was delicately prepared and satisfied my palate! The tender beef ones were just as good! Mmm! Great portion for the $8+ price point. The service was gracious and attentive. My server came by several time to see if everything was ok, and refilled my tea. Is this the best Mexican place I've ever been to? Went on Valentine's Day to get a nice, quick, and easy dinner and decided to go to here. I proceeded to purchase 2 shrimp tacos, and a side of rice. The food was great overall, yes but the place was pretty busy so they had slower than normal service, but it didn't affect the service too much. July 5th '25 Early Saturday evening, late afternoon only two other tables being served, I was with a party of 3. Service very friendly, prompt and professional. Drinks came out quick and good - frozen Margarita. Ambiance: family casual, clean- nothing special. Food came out in a couple minutes - not much effort but into my order. # 4 - Two Enchiladas, Spanish Rice & Fried Beans - not good. Bah Chicken, it didn't have any taste to it, besides the spice less tomato sauce it was floating in. Spanish Rice - besides the two peas in it but was as life less as the enchiladas. Frozen margaritas are amazing and refreshing. The atmosphere is fairly basic. Great tacos and cheese enchiladas. There is limited outside seating, if that is your sort of vibe. In town for a little league all star tournament, July '21. Shared shopping center lot offered plenty of parking, lots of space in clean dining room. Complimentary chips and salsa. Server was nice; would have liked to see him more considering we were the only customers. Menu had familiar food items at parallel prices. Nothing to write home about as quality was average, portion sizes were smaller than our regular spot at home. Kids said beans looked (and tasted) weird. read more

This is one of our favorite Mexican places to eat when we are in Mechanicsville. The staff is always personable and friendly. The cameranas with chicken is one of my favorites. So this was the second time back to this location against my better judgment. Nothing really wrong the first time just super bland food. But it is close to my house and my boyfriend liked it enough to give it another try. Yep..food still bland. But this time my order was completely wrong. Our first visit to DP2 is a hit! The service is excellent, chips are fresh, and seafood nachos are delicious! All of that and a cold Sol with our dog on the patio makes this the perfect lunch! If the salsa had been spicier I probably would have given it 5 stars. My husband is Mexican and we just moved here from Arizona so 4 stars is really good! This is a cutesy Mexican restaurant tucked away in one of Hanover's shopping center that seem to be disappearing all over Richmond. It's more spacious inside than it may appear outside. If this place had a sangria margarita, I would've had my own! Now...I believe I mentioned in a previous review that Mexican food is THAT craving for me. If someone mentions Mexican or if I see it in a magazine or a commercial, I have to have it. So it comes as no surprise that my mouth was watering as I quickly searched for any dish wish that delicious shredded pork in it. For a split second, I considered getting one of the enchilada dishes, but when I asked the server for her recommendation, she said carnitas (well, I tried)! The food was good....and I was so hungry, I forgot to take pictures (sorry). It was the right temperature and the right portion size...I just wish the meat had been seasoned. It was quite bland. To make matters worse, when I asked for tomatillo (green) salsa, the server came up empty handed! *insert sad face* All in all, it was a relatively enjoyable visit. After a day at the pool we stopped by this Mexican restaurant, and we were pleasantly surprised. Everything we ordered was delicious. The grande steak quesadilla had tons of steak. The kids loved the cheese dip. The carne Asada and el pastor tacos were great. The steak fajitas were good, but it has more peppers and onions than meat. I did not care for the rice or guacamole personally but others in my party liked it. They had a sign that they are updating this place and it could definitely use it.
