Met up with a friend for a cheap night out-which is a rare find these days! Apparently this place has happy hour every day until 7! I got a couple of prickly pear margaritas and one skinny marg and then we split the wings, nachos and quesadilla. The food options are limited for HH but for the whole bill being $35 each, you can't beat that! The food was pretty tasty too and the drinks were delicious. The service was mediocre though-not sure if the bartender was also the cook? I would def come again and try the regular menu also. read more

I can see how some people have different opinions of the food here especially if you get takeout, which is always a hit or miss. I just happened to eat inside here and it was really good. The manager came introduced himself told us about different specials he had and the bartender made some really good drinks. If you're looking for something strong, you found the right place. Definitely gives you that Mexico vacation vibe when you're inside, especially with the music all the paintings and everything around the walls overall, I enjoyed it. I would go back for the specials alone. You'd be crazy not to and they also have decent parking. I have no complaints. read more

Didn't even know the place existed. Had a twofer coupon and thought I'd give it a try. Have been back twice. Two different Saturdays and two different counter people. Young male was excellent. The following week, the young lady not so. When I placed my order and sat down, she immediately came over to sweep floor under my feet and had me move. Then she stopped. The only spot in the whole restaurant to be swept where I was sitting??? This is a Mexican restaurant and looks like quite a bit of decorating went into it. Yet modern crappy rock music is playing. Completely ruined the mood. The food was fair. Nothing to write home about. Asked for no cilantro and still the burrito was made with it. Quesadilla was nondescript. This place is in my hometown and I really just have never gotten around to trying it. It was around 10 PM and a lot of places have closed, so we decided to give it a try. I 100% will be ordering from here again. My food came within a half hour. They have a $6 burrito special after 10pm so I was fully expecting these things to be small. They were large and packed with ingredients. Safe to say we'll be incorporating this into our weekly rotation. So upset we haven't tried it sooner! read more

Delivered food is not the same as pictured on website. Ordered the carne asada burrito buy one get one free and both had literally five to six very small cuts of steak inside, no beans of any kind (as advertised), and tons of white tasteless rice to fill up space. The tortilla was barely cooked and along with all the damp rice the burritos' texture and taste was chewy and awful! Ordered the buy one get one free Refried Bean Burritos. Guess what? No beans in either burrito!!! Don't believe it? See attached pictures! Not worth the price even for one! Lastly, ordered one Chopped Brisket Quesadilla. Size was more like half a quesadilla (one medium tortilla cut in half) with a fair amount of cheese, and meat that was a bit on the fat side. Overall taste was good though, but NOT worth $18 given the portion size. Finally, Cactus Cafe charged a separate $10.78 service fee for packaging/etc. yet provided no napkins or sauces, and the packaging quality was poor as food came mostly cold. Although Cactus Cafe is held very close to my heart, it seems that their portions have gotten smaller. Although that may be the case, the protein intake and service still prevail. When I first walked in I was greeted in a very wholesome manner and was held with upstanding hospitality. All of our burritos were packed with protein and the rum punch that they provide is very refreshing. While you wait for your meal, you are free to entertain yourself as the tables have chess/checker boards on the tables and they provide the pieces. I definitely recommend this place to others as the atmosphere is eccentric and very welcoming. Our server, Brittany (like Spears) has one of the most heart-warming souls that will make you keep coming back to this fine establishment. read more

This place is awesome. The half chicken meal, with four sides and their yellow sauce, is one of the best combinations of quality and price on Long Island. This restaurant was no where near as good as its predecessor Baja Cafe. The cashier was more interested in talking on his cell phone than taking our order. We ordered a quesadilla & a burrito and they were served 5 minutes apart. My burrito wasn't warm and it was nothing special when it came to taste. It's about time a good eatery went into this storefront. The past several businesses didn't fare very well. Based on my experience, Cactus Cafe is off to a great start and I encourage you to give them a try. I called to place a take-out order and had the pleasure of speaking with John. I said "this is my first time trying your food - what's going to blow me away?" He tried to get me to order the Peruvian 1/2 chicken with four side orders, but I felt it would be too much food for me alone. After listening to his other enthusiastic suggestions, the final thing he said was "I won't let you hang up until I convince you to try the carne asada taco." And John was right. The meat was tender, tasty and the tortilla was a true Mexican-style wrap. Bottom line, I had a great meal at an excellent price, ready on time, prepared and served by people who cared about how much I would enjoy their food. What more can you ask for? read more

Okay so I was asked to come back after my first review. This time pretty decent. I got the shrimp burrito. It was medium size, not big. But plenty of shrimp inside. I would say 8 to 10 medium size shrimp. I'm usually used to more of a baja style with cabbage slaw, but this had onions and refried beans. They should try making a baja menu. Will I return, not sure. Maybe to try something different like the rotisserie chicken. But otherwise not really my first choice. read more

Love this place, and I pray it stays in business longer than it's predecessors. Their tacos are phenomenal. Soft shell only and always stuffed full. I went here for the second time a little while ago because I was craving me some grilled chicken enchilada with rice and cheese and sour cream and boy am I glad I went when I did. This beautiful girl named April helped me order exactly what I been wanting and I will be returning soon for such great food and more so the superb service. April helped me customize the enchilada so it wouldn't have anything I wasn't craving. I got it with just rice and extra sour cream and it smacked. She told me about the two $13 enchilada deal on Mondays and I will be returning for that! Better yet, I saved the second for my lunch at work on Tuesday and it was bussin just the same. read more

Was very excited to see a location open near me, but every time I go here it is an odd experience. They have the most unmotivated, unwelcoming staff. The food takes at-least twice the amount of time as the Huntington location to come out. The last time I was here, the cashier was LITERALLY asleep behind the counter and didn't notice my food was ready. Another time when I went to pick up an online order, they didn't pack the drinks, and when asked about it the guy at the counter just pointed to the fridge. The drink I paid for was not in stock, and when I asked about it I was met with an eye roll and a mumble about them not having it. Very weird. This is my second time at this location. I love the Medford. They must be different owners or something because every time I came here it been horrible. I just left the location and I got rice and beans. How can you mess up rice and beans? Well they did. They literally just put beans out of a can on a plate with no seasoning. The rice has dreadful. I have been eating at the Cactus Cafe on route 112 for years so when they opened the new restaurant in Smithtown I was excited. they have really good prices but Smithtown charges more. When I went to another location I saw they raised their prices. About the Smithtown location they are starting to get their act together and bring out your meal faster. It would take 15 minutes for my order with no one in the store. Recently they made changes. I used to get their salad which is very good BUT now they load it with raw green bell peppers. I hate raw peppers. If you look at the menu board it doesn't say peppers. NoW be careful when you order their specials. Monday it is 2 enchiladas for $13!?? Not so fast you want chicken that is extra, you want meat that is extra!! I used to go twice a week but now I think I will go back to Cabo Fresh!! Stop nickel and diming the customers!! read more

the staff didn't even know which burrito was mine and getting it confused with the other customers. waited 10 minutes for my burrito before the 2 people who came in before us and got theirs within 3 minutes. i asked for no cilantro in it and there was cilantro and the girl told me it's in the avocado when i said i asked for no cilantro. when i got home the whole opposite side of the burrito had avocado with no cilantro. and i asked for chicken and it ended up being pulled pork. the kid behind the counter was on his phone texting while i was waiting for him to finish making my burrito. not coming back. read more
