We visited this place more than 10 years ago when it was under the original owners, or at least one of the earlier owners. I've heard it's changed hands several times since then. I was surprised to see that it's now a Mexican restaurant. The good news is they do both Mexican and American breakfast dishes well. The huevos rancheros were excellent, and the omelet and hash browns were solid too. They no longer sell Bison meat, due to the nearby Bison farm closing down. The biggest change is the atmosphere. The charming, nostalgic airport-diner vibe has been replaced with a darker bar look, complete with an Instagram photo wall accompanied with a free dessert table. My only wish is that they would lower the patio windows a bit so diners could get better photos of the Cessna planes taking off. What a great little surprise. I pass by this place all the time on my way to the 138 since we live on the northside of Hesperia. It is literally located at the Hisperia airport, which would be which is a private airport that most people might not have heard of because it's very small. We wanted to grab a late breakfast on a Saturday after doing some running around. When we stopped here, it was fairly easy to get in and we were surprised at how spacious the restaurant was on the inside. As you enter to the left, there is actually a bar area but to the right is the restaurant area. We were greeted by warm and friendly host, who scored us to the back where we found our seat. The restaurant is not fancy. It's really nothing to write home about the food is good and the servers are warm and friendly. We decided to go with the breakfast side of the menu, which is actually served for most of the day. I opted for chili, Verde and eggs, which was an excellent choice. Guys, this place makes them the way they're supposed to be made; with fresh cut tortillas NOT PREMADE CHIPS. Their homemade Chile was delicious ( just the right amount of heat. This is our go to spot for lunch on Sunday afternoons after church. The ambiance is great, customer service is good and the food has always been fresh and on point. My go to dish is the carnitas chimichanga. My family also enjoys the enchiladas and chili rellenos. Even their breakfast sandwhiches are good! My only complaint about this place is that they do not know the service dog laws. I was asked to show my service dogs registration. By law my service dog does not have to be registered and by law I do not have to prove it. I explained this to Nelly our waitress. She informed me that this is the owners policy and she apologized profusely. To avoid situations like this my service dog does have a picture id and we were quickly offered seating in the bar with 2 toddlers. Nelly was very very sweet, funny and very attentive. No qualms with her at all. She was amazing !! But shame on the owners for not knowing the service dog laws. Tsk Tsk. 4 stars for Nelly, the food and the service. First time for breakfast and it hit just right. So good that I forgot to take a photo We both ordered green chilaquiles, and I asked if they could add chicken to mine. It was only a few extra bucks and so worth it. The authentic Mexican breakfast dishes come with beans, rice and tortillas. All which were great. Just another average Mexican restaurant out in the high desert. Half Mexican half Filipino here, I have genuine chefs on both sides of the family (why? Idk), so I know great food with roots from Mexican/Filipino cuisine This place didn't have it. We got Chilaquiles, bacon omelette, and the airport enchilada (which was a bacon omelette with "enchilada" sauce and a tortilla inside the omelette) I'll give the cook credit on his/her technique though. The hash browns were crispy & tasted fresh not frozen. Then the omelettes were cooked thoroughly & not over cooked at all However, flavor was not there. Hash browns needed seasoning which I made up with table salt First, the Chilaquiles They weren't particularly crispy on first bite which is fine since they get soggy anyways from the salsa. But the salsa had no flavor! The green salsa tasted like your average Cardenas salsa that's been sitting there for weeks. I didn't taste any onions, garlic, tomatillos, etc. It just tasted like some roasted poblano peppers and a jalapeño blended up, nothing else really added. Then onto the airport enchilada. The "enchilada" salsa or simple red salsa was even worse. It just tasted like the jitomate blended up with the mellow sweetness of onions. It might've been diluted by water because it was very watery and lacked the tanginess of the tomato. Also, the enchilada omelette was just bacon bits thrown inside a tortilla with the omelette on the outside. At least throw in tomatoes, cilantro, a little fresh onion to bring more flavor. The only redeeming part of the dish was the tortilla because it offered a new texture. AND THEN, our server didn't provide good service. I know these are definitely first world problems... But when he brought out our coffee, he didn't bring out creamer and had to go back into the kitchen. And the coffee wasn't even good! Tasted like some 7/11 gas station coffee that I downed before I had to take a test in college. Where's the canela? It even had a hint of a metallic taste which tells me they don't clean it every day. Also, there was only one other table & a singular person eating at the bar/kitchen area that he was constantly talking to. Wasn't sure if she was a worker or just a friend but their conversation was louder than the two tables combined. I've worked as a server before so I appreciate good service and am pretty lenient to people whenever it's busy bc I've been in their shoes. But there were two tables. At 9 am. Having a conversation is fine but don't neglect paying customers for someone you can talk to when you're off. Now listen, I MIGHT come back because of the steak specials I saw there. I have high hopes because of the cooking technique properly executed on the hash browns and the omelettes. But the flavor in their breakfast dishes, at least the ones we got... wasn't enough to keep me coming back for breakfast. I hope they improve by the time I come back for a steak. read more
