I understand that in her line of work, Emily probably sees a lot of complicated or even sketchy situations. Maybe she thought this was one of those times, but instead of jumping to conclusions, she could have just asked us or even made a lighthearted comment. We would have been happy to explain our story. The discomfort escalated when we asked to see a ring with designs. She brought out a catalog and slammed it on the counter so hard it startled me. At that point, her irritation was obvious.
