Aqua tots class, toddler and parent.
    Brian S.

Looking to learn to swim? Well, come on in. My mother was adamant, she wanted my children to learn how to swim early, like I did. I enrolled my children for summer classes (3 years old and 1 years old). The classes coordinate with the season of the year, winter, spring, summer and fall. The cost of classes are a little pricey, BUT I feel the price is well worth the results. The classes are 30 minutes each. It doesn't seem like much but, if you go home and practice the same activities, you should definitely see results. Both my children didn't mind pools, but they are leaps and bounds from where they started. My daughter attends the aquatots class, either with my wife or myself. The toddler class teaches breath control, floating on the back and returning to the edge of the pool. They try to get the toddlers acclimated to the water. When my daughter started, she wouldn't close her mouth, when she would go under water. She can now hold her breath for about 8 seconds. She is starting to kick more, as well. She also likes to sit on the edge of the pool and fall into the water, as she expects to go under water. My son attends a class for 3 year olds. Although he didn't mind the water, he didn't like going under the water. Now, as the classes are coming to an end, I have to keep an eye on him, because he will just jump in any open body of water, if he has on swim trunks. Keep in mind he can't fully swim yet. I admire the confidence, but can we learn how to fully swim before we start jumping in pools without permission? They allow the kids to ride the slide into the water, at the end of class, which my son loves. In my sons class, they teach breath control, finding the edge of the pool, in case you fall in, boat safety and basic swimming. I think my son will be a proficient swimmer, with another round or two of classes. I honestly wish I would've followed my mothers advise and enrolled my son, when he was 1 years old. I love the teachers, my children love their teachers. I feel that this is a great investment. My only annoyance is that It is extremely hard to get someone on the phone, when you need to speak with someone at the location. Oddly there is always someone sitting at the desk when you enter the school. Overall it is a great swimming school. They also offer their pool space for private parties.

Absolutely fantastic! Jenni is my daughter's teacher and I am so very very glad we signed up here. I wish we'd started even earlier! My daughter is 2 1/2 and at first was terrified of the water, didn't even want it to touch her face, and in just a couple of months she's able to go under water for 2 seconds, and is learning to climb out of the pool. I know we'll be here for a long time to come as she learns to swim, and I love how dedicated and positive the staff is. They have the patience of SAINTS. Just a heads up - You'll want to come in your swimsuits and bring a change of clothes after. You also need to bring towels. If your kiddo is still in diapers you'll need to buy two pairs of swim diapers from Emler and they wear both at once just to guarantee there's no accidents in the pool (which would ruin classes for everyone as there are multiple classes happening at once). For the little ones you'll be in the pool with them, so you need a suit/towel too. But you get to sing songs and help them do each of the steps which is fantastic. I really really love this place!

Our kids have been coming to Emler Allen for the last 8 months and we are extremely pleased with how much they have grown. Bathtime Babies is a great place to start your baby off because it gets them accustomed to actually being in the water. Aside from that, they sing songs in class, do activities, and are able to socialize with other babies. The bathtime babies class is free with a registration fee. The transition to Waterbabies was seemless, with them going completely under water about a month in. Miss Kaylyn was our instructor and she has a natural way with kids and is extremely patient. Our daughter developed a fear of the water at around 7 months, but with patience and continued classes she has worked through that. Both babies can hold their breath for 10 seconds underwater and are having a great time in class.

My little girl LOVES her swim lessons!

The staff here is AMAZING! They are so great with the kids, they make a point to learn their names so it is personal and the kids learn so much! I had asked around where to take my toddler for swim lessons and I heard so many great personal reviews of Emler. I was struggling at first with how much more the lessons cost compared to the city ones, but she is actually learning valuable skills. (I heard that is not the case with city lessons.). Everything they do is purposeful yet fun. Great curriculum! The instructors are positive and communicate well on what the kids are working on and what needs improvement. We have Katelyn right now and my girl loves her, but every instructor we have experienced and seen are great. The facility is nice and clean. The pool is warm/comfortable for the kids even in the winter. We went over to grandpa's house and he freaked when he saw her swimming under water on her own! Ha! My 2 year old swims 10 second under water. I'm a Proud mamma!

Just weeks ago my 3 year old was terrified of the water and would barely get in, now she's swimming underwater for 7 seconds!

I had my reservations that anyone would be able to break my eldest of her extreme fear of water or my youngest of her timidity. But, with her patience and persistence, Ms. Paige had them enjoying the water in no time! We have been swimming year-round with her for the past three years. Not because my children haven't learned how to swim, but because the LOVE it! Paige is unique in that she teaches each child as an individual, working with their own personality style and skill level. Over the years I have seen her interact with many different children. She has a gift with special needs kids. She can accomodate unusual requests, like blending groups of swimmers so that siblings and friends can be in the same class, if desired. To me, learning to swim is as important as wearing a seat belt. It is a life-saving skill every child needs to learn. Ms. Paige will not only teach your child how to stay safe around water, but she will teach him/her to love swimming.

She even said, it's easier to teach children and while this may be factual the context of the comment had a negative impact to the hearer. At least one area is always in the shade. -We work with Kale. Since he is also a school teacher, he understands how to be calm and encouraging, yet firm and disciplined. We have never had Anne as our instructor, but she handles the business end of it, and has always been friendly and organized. I think very highly of their character. -Students swim for the ENTIRE thirty minutes. They never waste time sitting on the step waiting for someone else to take a turn. ***This is very different from the large swim school we tried last year. The classes were so big that only 10-15 minutes was spent swimming. The rest of the time was spent sitting on the step waiting for the other kids to take their turns. - While the instructor (Kale) works with one child privately, he gives the other child an assignment or task to work on independently. Examples of independent tasks for a beginner: putting face underwater on the step to grab fish; wearing a flotation device to practice scooping; and using a barbell to kick from one side of the pool to the other. -The price is very reasonable. It only cost $10 more for a semi-private class here (only 2 students in the class) than a group class with 6 students at a large swim school. Worth it.

I have been a member of Lifetime Fitness for over 20 years (based at the Plano and Allen…read morefacilities) For a place that calls itself an "Athletic Country Club" with the continually increasing prices to match, this place does not live up to the moniker. In particular, as a customer of the Allen Spa I have never understood why the spa did not have it's own bathroom facility. Massages, facials, and hair appointments frequently take a while. It is reasonable that someone would want to use the restroom before, during or after a service. The idea that you have to walk across the entire facility to the locker rooms for their 5 aged and sad looking stalls in the ladies locker room seemed ridiculous and potentially embarrassing. So the "brilliant" answer was using the much closer "family" bathroom in the "family" locker room. That was workable, but certainly not a great answer. And now they have decided that Spa clients are no longer allowed to use the "family" bathroom. I do not know the real reasons why, but I assume it has something to do with not being a "family." Locked out! So we are now fully expected to trek our foiled, caped and oily bodies across the very large and very public facility to those previously mentioned locker rooms. I know of no country club that would expect its members to parade around in such a manner, nor inconvenience their hard working stylists and therapists with a bathroom so very far away. I really wish the Lifetime would fix this situation. It makes visiting the Spa stressful rather than Zenlike and peaceful....which is how a spa should feel.
