I was in LA to testify in a trial, so my teeth looking their best was very important. I had a temporary front tooth veneer from my local dental office that fell off 5 times. It was almost 5 pm in the middle of the week and Dr. Solooki took me in almost immediately for a late appointment and stayed well after closing time to finish the job. He was sweet, warm, funny, and the best part- he transformed my embarrassing temporary veneer into something so beautiful and natural looking that I could smile with confidence. This was some years ago. I wanted Invisalign but was also having gum and jaw pain. I paid him a lump sum, not payments. When I was being fitted for the Invisalign, I couldn't keep them in. He said, "You're trying to fool me!" I said "Why would I try to fool you?" I told him about the pain but he said nothing. I told his finance guy "I think he's mad at me..." He snapped, " I've known the guy for 20 years he never gets mad!" I got misogyny energy from both and it was from the get go. It escalated with misunderstandings about them forgetting I made a lump sum payment and ignoring the mystery pain. I went elsewhere . The second dentist called him and asked why I got bad service and said they made me cry (but I wasn't crying he added that for drama I guess?) Writing this review after going in for an initial visit about 2 years ago. I was referred to this dental office through someone I trust. Unfortunately, the visit was alarming in that the doctor and his assistant started selling me on deep cleaning treatments I never needed. They quoted me a few hundred dollars to go the deep cleaning route when I was just going in for a routine clean. They also insisted I was developing a cavity that needed to be treated. I declined and went to another dentist. Flash forward to today and my dentist (not this office but the one I switched to) has never detected a cavity, nor pushed for a deep cleaning. For what it's worth, I spend a fair amount of time maintaining my teeth with regular check ups, flossing, and fluoride rinses. I'd be very cautious about working with dentists that push unnecessary treatments. read more

This dentist and their office doesn't actually care about the work being done to your teeth. They are more concerned with how much they can bill you for and encourage you to do procedures that you may not necessarily need. After confronting the Dr. Solooki about the poor quality of Root Canal performed as well as a sub par deep cleaning, instead of trying to explain why these procedures where done he tried to blame me as a patient. It definitely explains a lot why this place is always so empty and that their Office Manager is no longer working for them. RUMORS ARE TRUE: DO NOT COME HERE. I am writing this review 2 seconds after I opened that door and left this dental office. They scam people for a deep cleaning procedure you don't need. Please don't listen to them and think you will need deep cleaning, it's not common for anyone to deep clean their teeth. It's a scam. My experience with dentist: Lived in Seattle and moved here 4 months ago, my Seattle dentist is the BEST I've ever had. His office is entirely very efficient, very direct, very friendly and just plain what you expect to go to dentist for. I've been to so many bad ones before my great dentist in Seattle. He showed me that going to dentist can be fast and easy. I never go over 30 mins nor anything not sure from him. Also, never pay anything getting out of there cause my insurance got it all and he handles everything. Ok. That's the background. Ok this is what ran down today: 10am appointment, went there at 9:55am and checked in with a lady in green hair. She's nice and got my insurance info. Done. Another guy came and did a x-ray for me and then guided me to another room to wait for doctor to check my teeth. He is also very nice and nothing really weird about everything. Doctor came and checked my teeth, says that I have some inflamed gum and he did explain in detail the what the numbers mean when he was checking and counting. He says the bigger numbers meaning my gum is more inflamed than not. I got numbers like 3,4,5s. Never 6,7, or 8 let alone 9, so I know he is being dramatic here. But fine, let's keep the train going! He says I have no cavity at all! Wow isn't my last dentist amazing to keep that nice. Doctor went out and the nice guy who helped w x-ray immediately (basically forced) played me with a deep cleaning explaination video. Ok, well, learned nothing but that deep cleaning is a scam for cleaning more shit from your teeth than regular because the same tool they use for regular cleaning dig deeper. Cool? He came back and asked if I have any questions and says that "our sale manager will be here and explain everything to you about what your insurance cover and what not." (Me immediately thinking: SHOW TIME!) Before he left the room he asked me if I want to watch anything from Netflix... I mean I don't want to be here that long so might as well not spend all day here watching Netflix? What a weird offer from your dentist office. Well, we will despite that and I said no thanks. About 10 mins later, sale manager came in and does he look exactly like a guy who would sell you a shitty car: Yes he does. I was a sales woman once, I know that look so no judging... But I'm in a dentist office. I don't think I want to see a saleman here. He showed me a chart of all the prices, and saying my insurance only covers 50%! And my dentist degnoised me with gum problems so I *need* deep cleaning. Well, I explained I only want the regular cleaning or whatever the insurance covered. He immediately reply with: "I think there's a misunderstanding here." Ayeee I bet you are more misunderstanding what dentist office means by ok! He continues: "The doctor degnoised you which means you *have to* get it done, is not like that we can say you can or cannot do the regular, it's what you *NEED*." Because I came prepared and read everyone of yall's reviews here, I know I need to stand on my ground and get out of here at this point. So, I politely say oh well, I guess I will just take my x-ray which my insurance covered then. I don't *WANT* a deep cleaning sorry. He is surprised I can tell, maybe he thought we will go back and forth on this but nah fam I know how you do this, and I also know how to cut it off clean. So, he says he will ask the doctor and come back and see if he will do a regular cleaning. TBH this is so long already so let's minus all the details and just say that he came back saying they can do a regular cleaning for me tomorrow morning. If you think you can scam me and I will still trust you and come back? You are very wrong. But I say ooooh I don't know my schedule so I just want the prices and my x-ray through email. He said he will send me. He did send the prices but not the x-ray yet. It's 1 hour after I left there so I will call and call for my x-ray until I get it. read more

I have been a patient of Calm Dental for years. I took a break when I went to grad school because of my insurance, but I should have just continued as a cash pay. They're great and I trust them. When they say I need a deep cleaning, it's not to get an extra buck and that ain't cheap since insurance does not cover deep cleanings. They had to fix up all the lost time, my darkest dental days. The pandemic was tough since we couldn't finish my deep cleaning until several months later. I feel fine and saw them recently for a regular cleaning and have been doing well. They take good care of me! No paraffin wax for my hands because of the pandemic, but Netflix in every room and they have two massage chairs now! I'm still all relaxed while getting my teeth cleaned and they're good that I look forward to going to the dentist! read more

Great dentist. Went to get a wisdom tooth extracted. Had a very thorough and comfortable preliminary examination. Came back to get it out - no pain, clear, comfortable, and good recovery. Very helpful check up a week later confirmed the good work. Very friendly staff and nice facilities. Remember you and what you need. Dr. Solooki's office is by far the best dentist's office I've ever been to. Billing / Admin: Michael at the front desk is friendly, charming, and always provides clear explanations of the process of verifying the cost of procedures with my insurance. After a few cavities filled and several cleanings, I've never had any surprises with billing which I really appreciate. Procedures: When it comes to procedures and cleanings, Dr. Solooki and his dental hygienist are both warm and helpful. They provide clear explanations for why procedures are necessary, and when possible they actually show me damage that needs to be repaired. I always feel safe and comfortable in their hands. Dr. Solooki does not push for me to do more than is necessary, and is always flexible on how much I'd prefer to do at each appointment, in case I'd like to space out costs / time. Patient care: Dr. Solooki also called to check on me the day after I had 4 cavities filled to make sure I wasn't having any pain. These days a provider that cares that much is hard to find. He responds promptly to calls and texts, the office is flexible on scheduling, and you just can't beat that. I've been seeing Dr. Sooloki for 10 years, and I'm constantly referring him to my friends and colleagues. This is a great team of dental pros: patient, TALENTED, and definitely have a soothing bedside manner. Over the years I've had a bad crown from a previous dentist replaced and a root canal on the same tooth; I've heard horror stories about root canals and was absolutely petrified and kept putting it off 'till I just couldn't anymore. :( But it was so easy peasy. Started here for a cleaning from a Groupon deal. Everything fine until I needed a crown. Salooki told me I might need a root canal down the road as he was doing the crown. Crowns are not cheap, especially when sharing a building with the Biltmore, but I thought that was an odd thing to casually throw in. Skip ahead 3 years and I went to a different dentist who informed me the crown was not fitted right and a cavity had developed under it so it had to be redone. When the new dentist took it off, to my horror, the old filling was still underneath! The idea that any medical professional would just slap something so important as a crown in my mouth just over the old problem without cleaning it out and sanding it like you would with any home project, is absurd. I put more care into painting over graffiti! Don't be fooled by the fancy building and massage chair, Salooki is a quack! read more

One star bc the office smells like poop. One star bc Dr Solooki, after 38 weeks of Invisalign treatment, put me into a new set of aligners that reset me back to Day One within a period of 3 days of nauseating pain. Solooki doesn't dispute this mistake, it's just that I paid in advance and we disagree on the ethics of charging someone for this particular experience. I had ClearCorrect aligner with this Dental office years ago. The estimate was 18 month to get my teeth straight. After almost 2 years I still had 2 canines crooked. I had to switch to regular braces at a different dental office for another 8 months. After my ortho treatment, I called Calm Dental for a retainer (I paid $350 in advance for the retainer), they said they dropped the contract with ClearCorrect, so there was no way for me to get the retainer I already paid for or a refund. I had gum deep cleaning at Calm dental for over $1200 (I didn't have dental insurance at the time), only to find out a couple weeks later at a different dental office, that I need to completely redo deep cleaning for all 4 quadrants. Calm dental did a very lousy job on this. All the good reviews are from their friendly staff. I highly doubt their actual dental skill can live up to the reviews. read more

Just when I thought there couldn't be a better office than my previous dentist, I found this awesome place. Everything about my first experience at Calm Dental was top notch. A very unique office.. upon walking in, you pass through all the operatories before reaching the front desk(back desk? Haha). Greeted with endless smiles, every employee was very welcoming. While in the waiting area and sitting on the massage chair, they provide you with this wax/moisturizing treatment! Definitely a good way to release those dental chair jitters. The X-ray room: the assistant, Lily, was very friendly and made the X-ray process quick and easy. Their new dental X-ray technology is way more convenient than the old process of 15 minutes of moving uncomfortable plastic in your mouth to take a picture of each side. With the new technology, you're standing up and it literally took 3 minutes. Dr. Solooki is probably the happiest dentist I've ever met. He did a short exam, asked a few questions, and explained minor problems I had and things I should improve on my oral hygiene. No cavities! The dental hygienist, Darwin, was a really cool dude. He let me choose what I wanted to watch on Netflix.. & with the headphones, it helped with the anxiety of hearing the drill in your mouth. He did an excellent, pain-free procedure! After 4 dental appointments and 3 actual visits.... Although this dental has the lowest of rating (4.7) among the other 2 (at 4.8 and 4.9 stars) I'm seriously hoping this is it... While I'm yet to undergo the implant operation, this review/rating is SOLELY FOR CONSULTATION PART.... Compared to other dental visits.. Dr Solooki visit was straightforward and efficient. This dentistry actually offered X-ray scans without billing or charging me anything. Asked me questions on what I want to get done and gave his honest recommendations too. And he never rushed the consultation. Other dental visits has always been about telling you what you needed done.. After listening to my current dentist (no longer going to be) on what I needed done, I ended up losing more. My general dentist recommended and did fillings on a tooth that looked fine, (only to see the tooth cracked/split in half to the roots within the month), now the tooth has to be extracted and an implant done... And this is how I ended up dentist-shopping ‍ Finally I'm just a little disappointed for not starting the operation right away as I was hoping. Simply because advertised price $1999 for everything only to go in and be given actual pricing of $2899.. 5 Star for Free Examination!!! Overall couldn't give it a 5 star experience because they were quick to make copy of my DL the moment I arrived in.. So I've always been scared of dentists - throughout my 22 years of living, I have only had one cavity, with that being said, I'm pretty scared of getting another! There's nothing enjoyable going to the dentist with them saying your teeth need to be drilled on! I came here today & mind you, I haven't had my teeth cleaned in 4 years! I knew I was in desperate need of a cleaning - & the last dentist I went to last year, said I had gingivitis & never gave me a cleaning. Instead he prescribed me these $300 pills which I never bought. Turns out, I did have a small cavity, and Dr. Don Solooki did the dental work so well that it was very pleasant experience for a cavity. It was small though, so no numbing stuff was needed! He also explained that he was going to go slow, and made sure the entire time I was comfortable. He also said to let him know if there was any pain so he would give me any numbing stuff if needed. The best part? You don't smell the nasty burning smell!! He explained that he uses water when the drill is going so that's great! The cleaning was done from a different staff member. Very friendly! He was super gentle, and used this high tech drill (sounds scary but it's not) where it takes the tartar off. It's great since it's not as painful as doing it by hand when they scrape it with the pick, because water also jets out. This was by far the best dental experience I have witnessed in my life! Also if you check in you receive a free teeth whitening (if you get cleaning & xrays done). I didn't have insurance, but the teeth cleaning alone is only $65 what a deal! I have been here twice for routine dental cleaning and screening for cavities. I noticed that This practice uses a panoramic to screen for cavities instead of bite wings. I suspected this wasn't standard of care but later asked a colleague of mine who is faculty at a dental school as well as my aunt who is an orthodontist who confirmed it. Panoramic images are not used for cavity screening, but for assessment of anatomical structure. My prior dentist in San Francisco informed me I had a small cavity that was too small to fill and advised to follow it closely and use flouride in hopes to help it demineralize. When I inquired about it during my visit at Calm Dental I was told it was fine. Perhaps it is and it re-mineralized, but now I feel I need to go to another dentist to make sure. (Except my insurance won't pay for that since I used my benefit already.) I'm giving an extra star because his dental hygienist is amazing and spends a lot of time on your cleaning. Amazing friendly staff that remembers you (at least when you're coming in every few weeks to get two crowns done in stages.) Green biz does everything electronically and explains work and coverage well. Automatically sends you email and text reminders for appointments. Very communicative dentist will keep checking in with you throughout procedures to make sure you're not feeling any pain. Local anesthesia is a beautiful thing to take the anxiety out of dental work. I fell off a scooter (I am the clumsy sort), and chipped a couple teeth in the process. I was very concerned as a tooth chipping can turn very serious if not taken care of. I called Mr. Solooki's office a bit panicked. He saw me right away and assured me it was not serious and we were able to set an appointment the next day. Dental work can be very stressful because of the unknown cost. I was expecting the worst but I believe it was priced extremely fair and I felt no pressure from the staff to do pay for anything. Some people mention the deep cleaning and I did get one myself because I was very much due for one. I've now been to see Dr. Solooki & his associates 3 times in the last two months; each time I've been taken care of and had great experiences -well, as great of an experience one can have visiting the dentist LOL! | L O C A T I O N & P A R K I N G | Since my condo is here in DTLA, getting here by foot is super simple and I never encounter traffic, haha. But the location is easily found across the street of Perishing Square, where you can either park or catch a lift via public transportation. Dr. Solooki's office also validates for parking at the Biltmore if you choose that route. | A P P O I N T M E N T S | Scheduling an appointment is also super simple and I love that they send you a text to confirm your time and date t he week before and also the day before reminder. | S E R V I C E | I initially came in because I had cracked a filling and was worried about an infection; Dr. Solooki found a small infection already growing and explained [in terms I could understand] that it should be taken care of immediately and that it wasn't anything I did wrong but just the matter of fact that my silver fillings were VERY old. Fast forward to today's appointment where I've already had the root canal done by their specialist, Dr. Edon and I'm now sitting in the chair to get the crown cemented in place of the temp. Daniel is explaining what's gonna happen and how to properly take care of the crown, all the while making pleasant chitchat and jokes with me. I absolutely LOVE it here at Calm Dental; I'm treated amazing, the place is clean, appointments are fast without compromising quality, staff are friendly and super helpful. I'm usually anxious about visiting the the dentist because I've never really had good dental providers in the past. So when it came to getting work done I made sure I went to a provider that would take care of me. Calm dental was extremely accomodating and casual about my visit despite having a somewhat intense procedure(tooth extraction/ deep clean). Dr. Solooki was informative, honest and patient with me, walking me through the procedures and answering any questions I have. He made me feel comfortable enough to open up about my dental health history which sometimes can be tricky depending on the provider. The entire staff is super nice, polite and helpful. And with that coupled up with top of the line equipment? The experience was great. I have to say that I recommend calm dental and I'm happy that I found a dental provider that I can trust. read more

I went to Calm Dental for a broken tooth that had root canal done while ago and needed a crown. The staff were extremely warm professional and friendly . They offered me a massage on their massage chair also coffee tea water. Going to their room to take my X-rays tripped me out. Let me tell you this 360 machine was amazing, with one shot they took the pictures without any pain.
